One of my favorite Mexican restaurants to visit not because of the hole in the wall atmosphere but just because of the great tasting food at a very good price! We just moved here from New Mexico and was pleasantly impressed by the food and service at Las Playas. I ordered Chicken Fajitas and my wife ordered a special mushroom plate. Both were exceptionally good, well prepared, good taste, huge portions, and right off the heat. The tortilla chips were warm, super fresh and crispy, and the salsa was excellent. The fajitas were sizzling and all the add-ons were fresh and tasty. Our Server, TISHA, was very professional, friendly, and pleasant as she could be. Very attentive server indeed. We have visited other Mexican Restaurants and none of the others met our expectations as much as Las Playas. We thank you for being in our community and we will certainly be back. We've driven by several times, but never stopped in. Our other option fizzled tonight so we decided to try it out. Not as big as I thought, but there were friendly. Greeted us promptly and led us to a booth. Pretty darn good for a Friday night. We tried the Fundito... Chorizo/cheese dip. Pretty good but the cheese was really salty tasting for us but we tend to eat low salt. The chorizo was a really good quality. My wife got taquitos filled with chicken... She said it was tender and nicely seasoned. She was really pleased. I went ala carte with a bean burrito----huge and perfect with a nice red sauce over it... And a tostada... Really liked that... And a fried taco... The best I've had anywhere around here for sure. Next time we go I'm just getting a couple of those fried tacos and a bean burrito. Since this place offers a full BBQ menu and Mexican menu I figured it was worth a shot, and it was. The waitress was more than happy to accommodate and I may have a new favorite taco. Yeah so I went here to try a New Mexican spot in blue Springs. The person who greeted us rolled his eyes when I asked to be outside. And made a smart ass comment to my wife. UNACCEPTABLE. So I told this person We would just leave. He didn't want our service. Which is sad. Because I heard great things but instead went somewhere else. They treat customers much better. The service once was perfunctory, once was outstanding and tonight was completely underwhelming--including the server wearing her mask incorrectly. The patio is great, but it is not enough to make up for weird glitches. Four corn tortillas with $19 fajitas and charging for more seems petty. We asked the server several questions and got, "I don't know." Full stop. Deer in headlights. I have been to Las Playas probably around ten times now. I love coming here as it is close to home and good food. You cannot beat the $5 margarita Tuesdays and Fridays!! (They are strong too!) I also love sitting out on the patio with them too! The owner Jesus is very personable and the staff is friendly. There has only been one time that I had a bad experience and they were short staffed and crazy busy. When I think of Mexican for dinner I think of Las Playas! read more

Recently moved in the area so we tried it. The first time we went there was dinner time and they weren't busy at all. Our waitress was nice but it took a long time for her to give us chips and salsa. We ordered cheese dip and we got it right away but the dip was cold and it looked like it's been sitting under the warmer for a long time because the cup was a little hot but the cheese was cold in the inside and dry and crusty on top. My enchiladas were cold and my husband's burrito was pretty cold too. I told our waitress about it so she took them and I think they just microwaved them to heat them up because the sour cream the I put on top of the enchiladas were there still and was warm. We left unsatisfied and very disappointed. We decided to give it another try and hoping it would be different. It's different alright... It was WORST!!! We had our little daughter with us when went there during lunch and we were the only customer. We walked in and the mexican guy was just tapping on his phone. We weren't greeted right away and he just looked at us and then pointed us to where to sit. We sat there for a good 5 mins but nobody came. I went to the front and he was still tapping on his phone. I asked if I can have a high chair and he just pointed them where to get them and then he turned around and left and went to the kitchen and started talking to the people in the back. We didn't get menus, nobody came out to even ask if we need drinks or if we need anything. I guess they don't want any business at all! I've been driving past this place for years and was never all that curious to check it out. When a dining companion put it on a list of possible places to go, I hopped on Yelp and decided to give it a try based on previous reviews. I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't see that much on the menu that made the crossover from barbeque to Mexican (the pulled pork tacos people have mentioned were not available), but it was tasty authentic Mexican. The salsa was good, the chips were fresh. My biggest complaint was the margarita, which tasted like old-time, original Gatorade, with no hint of tequila. They were cheap, but they weren't that good. The entrees, on the other hand, were great. I had the chile verde, with chunks of nicely cooked pork in a spicy tomatillo sauce. The rice was fine, the beans were really really good. Like so much better than beans you've had elsewhere. My companion had a combo plate with a burrito and a taco, and loved them both. The service was good, and other than not having a beer listed on the menu, everything was fine. I'll definitely be back to check it out again. read more

Over 20 min to get my food. My husband and I were served first, then my kids several minutes later. Why would you serve adults first? Food was hot but only decent and our server was nice, but my daughter was served a blackened dried out cheeseburger for her meal. See the picture I posted if you want to see. My wife and I have frequented this wonderful establishment on several occasions, and have yet to be disappointed. I have found a favorite, the Azteca Burrito! an amazing, flavorful, smoked pork stuffed bite of deliciousness! Every bite was soooo good! I personally enjoyed the salsa and the chips, maybe not the best thing in the world, however they are freshly made and again they are chips and salsa that taste very good.......anyway, I highly recommend Las Playas, very reasonably priced (lunch time) great service, great food, and I/we look forward to our future visits! We have been driving past this place for a long time. We went to warrensburg a couple weeks ago and I saw the name on the menu at copper coyote So I saw some good reviews and we tried it today. I got the burrito Azteca with smoked chopped pork, beans and smothered in their green sauce and guacamole. I got the sauce on the side since I am always aware of heat but this came out and was great. The meat was tender, it had a huge portion if quac ample on it and was not soaking in cheese. The sauce was amazing and so flavorful with the right amount of heat. Husband had the ribs, said they were a bit salty but still good and his French fries were double fried nice and crunchy. Their chips and salsa were also great. This place is great! Before I visited, I had read the reviews and was a little nervous about so many of them being negative. After visiting, I knew I had to add a positive review because either this place has changed drastically since those reviews were posted, or some reviewers had a skewed view/expectations. The food was great and so were the drinks. I am personally a spice freak, using lots on my own cooking and found their offerings very flavorful! They have excellent drink specials, which was a big reason we wanted to check them out. 99 cent tequila shots to go with your big $5 margarita? Yes please! We arrived about 20 minutes before the evening crew had shown up, so one gentleman was running around trying to help everyone. The first round of drinks took a while to show up because of that, but we had chips and salsa almost immediately and he was very friendly. Wearing a bow tie and a button down shirt, he may have been the owner or manager and made us laugh every time he came by the table. I've visited restaurants that have more than enough staff and still had to wait over 10 minutes for a drink from the bar, so the wait was not a problem for us. It did look a bit like a dive from the outside, but by the time we left, the place was packed and folks were standing at the front waiting for a table. That's a place worth checking out! I have been wanting to try for a while now, since it was in Blue Springs. Tryed the pulled pork taco and a burito overall I liked the pulled pork taco best. It was good. They do charge 1.00 a bowl for the extra hot sauce but was worth it. The service was great almost enough to raise overall score to 4 stars but I usually rate on food so 3 stars.
