Walked into the restaurant looking for something to eat. I hesitated at first because of the parking and the exterior, but once inside, the layout felt like a maze and the restaurant was toward the back. We were the only customers, so service was prompt and genuinely warm--almost motherly. Loved it. I ordered my go-to safe choice, asada tacos, and they came out quickly. Full of flavor with a generous portion of meat, especially for the price--$2.50 per taco, which is hard to beat for quality like this. Highly recommend. If I had to change anything, I'd say fresher chips and a better ambiance would elevate the experience. That said, the food felt very authentic, and I'll definitely be coming back. read more

I have been coming to El Ranchito for quite a while, and it is one of my favorite authentic Mexican restaurants around. They are one of the few places that serve shrimp street tacos. I never have luck finding those, so I happily get them here. They are located in a run-down plaza, in a not-so-fancy part of town. But, this doesn't mean you shouldn't tried them out. Prices are extremely cheap, and the food is wonderful. They also have daily lunch specials. Tamales and Horchata are always good here, as well as, any of the tacos. But, I don't discriminate against tacos, I love them all equally. The girls immediately bring out chips and a spicy salsa. The chips are much thicker than your regular tortilla chip. It actually took me some time to like them. Now, I really enjoy them. Service is super friendly, but practice your Spanish. It is a very simple restaurant. Good cheap eats. You'll find them sort of hidden in the back of a small mom and pop Mexican grocery store in a worn out part of town that's obviously well past the comfort zone of most fainter types. Brushing up on your Spanish might help but isn't necessary. They do these really thick chips I've come to like and their salsa's on the spicy side, at least for Orlando. Their tacos are cheap and really good. They have some adventurous choices like tongue and hard to find shrimp but my favorites are the chorizo ones. The Caldo de res is wonderful here and there's a cooler with interesting sodas. Love that Horchata! ...but there are times they're off enough to weigh down my rating from a four. read more

We have lived in Orlando 16 years coming from California. We are always searching for good Mexican food. It was my birthday and Mom asked if I wanted to go to Agave Azul in Winter Park. It's more upscale Mexican restaurant and we like their food. I said I'd rather go find a new hole in the wall Mexican place like El Peublo on 426 (warning their hot sauces are WAY Hot). It's small authentic Mexican food joint in a strip center next to Race Track station. We searched Yelp and found El Ranchito. Read reviews and I said I'd like to try this Mexican restaurant. I'll tell you it did not disappoint! The Flavors of their food, the chips and their perfect salsa! It has some heat to it but the right amount we finished the bowl. I'll include some pics but should have taken before we started eating! I ordered the enchilada plate that comes with 4 enchiladas AND your choice of chicken breast or thin flat steak. I ordered 2 chicken with green sauce / 2 beef enchiladas with red sauce with steak as main meat. It's a good amount of food! The green sauce has some heat to it over the red sauce being more mild. Next time I'll be ordering 4 chicken enchiladas in green sauce with the thin steak. Mom ordered 2 asada tacos and enjoyed her food as well. It's not fancy place... it's a small Mexican Market with a decent size restaurant inside the market on right side of store. I think it's a hidden gem. Exactly what I wanted... real authentic Mexican food. I feel as a California raised person that has been spoiled with great Mexican food growing up... we are always looking for authentic in Florida. Habaneros or Amigos is NOT authentic. Give El Ranchito a try and see for yourselves. I give it 5 stars and a California approval. After dinner they have a meat counter to pickup meats for home... produce... and full little Mexican market to take home your favorite staples. Bam! P.S. I saw a review saying unsanitary? Uh, no. Hole in the wall with decent food and decent prices. Definitely not fancy. The servers are not very attentive and the chips are hard and could leave you with broken teeth if not careful. The salsa they provide is considered "mild" to them but very spicy to a softee like me. Overall okay. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there but I'd go again if I was in the area. Warning: Ladies do NOT and I repeat DO NOT wear heels to this place. I made that tragedy of a mistake and I ended up face down on the floor. Now that the announcement has been made..... This is some of the best cheap Mexican food I have had! Most Mexican food is cheap but this one takes the cake. I decided to give this place a try after church one day. I should have left my heels in the car or put on some flats. The restaurant is inside a grocery store. The surface of the grocery store is fine. When I entered the restaurant it was made of tile (that wasn't the problem). The floor was uneven and had a dip or two in it. As I was walking to my seat my Louboutin didn't have enough leverage and down I went.....was I embarrassed? No. Even though the entire restaurant seen me, I was on the floor laughing. I got up laughing. I crawled to the table and took a look at the menu. Everything was so friggin cheap! I got a few tacos and had a bite of a burrito. I recommend the chorizo or carne tacos....They all are delicious! I loved the variety of sauces on the table. This place was awesome! Came in very excited to try this place i would have never found without Yelp...but with over 40 minutes until close was told take out only. That's cool. I ask for a take out menu and am handed a greasy sheet of paper. Ok usually a sign that it's a good place when everything isn't perfect. I order and she tells me a price. I run the numbers in my head. Something isn't adding up. I question the price and she confirms it's correct. I then look at the menu...sure enough she's charging me higher than the listed menu price. I point this out and she doesn't budge. Thanks, but I'll go somewhere else. Dare I say that this is the best hole in the wall in Orlando? I cam here for the first time about there years ago after a co-worker mentioned it and loved it. However, I didn't return until this week after recently moving to College Park. First of all, you can't beat the hole-in-the-wall / authentic feel. The entrance is through a Mexican grocery store and it is almost surprising when the restaurant actually appears. Our waitress spoke very little English, which I loved since it gave me a rare opportunity to use my Spanish. The pechuga asada (grilled chicken) platter was delicious. Perfectly cooked and seasoned chicken, and really good accompanying rice and beans. We had wished that there were margaritas, but the Dos Equis hit the spot and went well with the food. Mi Mexico Numero Dos es muy bueno. Esto es as authentic a place as I've found for real Mexican. It's located inside a grocery store on a desolate stretch of Edgewater Drive near Lee Road (behind Northgate shopping center). I would imagine few people even know it is there. My waitress was very friendly and her English was quite good. She did seem a little bit overwhelmed when a party of six (gringos) came in, but she handled things well. The menu is in Spanish, but translated into English, although not extensively described. At the end of my meal, she handed me a post-it note showing what I had ordered, and I proceeded to the grocery checkout to show the note to the cashier and pay - a first! Next time I would love to look around in the grocery section. I'm sure you can find most anything Mexican-related here. read more

Auuuthentic Mexican food in an honest--to--God hole in the wall! Don't be scared, go in! The grocery is in the front, the cafe is in the back. The menu is mostly ala carte... so pick a few tacos, enchiladas, tortas, and what have you, sit back and watch Spanish soap operas. The chips and house salsa are terrific! The tacos are filled with meat, cilantro and onions. Ask for queso blanco if you need it or a side of beans and rice if you's real hungry. I tried the tongue taco, but it wasn't my style. The carne asada and carnitas were pretty decent. Coca-cola in a bottle, with sugar, is available. Sahweet. The lady behind the counter was adorable and friendly. This place is very hard to find, and it's a wonder that anyone ever found it in the first place. If you're in the vicinity it's not a bad place to get a cheap lunch! 3.5 stars read more

Whoa, this place is hidden. It's in the back, the way back part of a small grocery. Anyway, I figured it out, and glad I did. It was lunch, so I don't like to eat too much, otherwise I'm for sure dragging at work. Okay, enough about me. Nice menu, including breakfast items, but not too big. There were standards and things I didn't recognize (call me Peggy Hill). I ordered two tacos, one carnitas and one al pastor. Both were quite good and chock-ful-o meat for $1.80 each. Al pastor is my usual all time favorite and it was good, but the carnitas really shined here. Ordered a side of guacamole for $3.99 and it was twice as good as any you would get at a high-end restaurant made table side and about twice as much, too. Very fresh. I found this place by happenstance. My son was getting a haircut at the barbershop in front and I was in starvation mode. The other restaurant in the area was closed until dinner so I had no choice. I love Mexican food but am very particular about authentic Mexican and how it should taste..This isn't the fanciest place.. it's out in "the back of the back" as country folk like to say. But the food is absolutely delicious! I ordered a Gordita and 2 tacos and was blown away by the flavors and how delicious is was! The Gordita especially. The tacos were true Mexican style with corn tortillas, lime wedges and perfectly seasoned meat. The horchata was creamy and delicious. This is my go to Mexican Restaurant. I found it via yep while driving in the area and decided to stop. It was hard to find at first. I typically come here for my first meal of the day. I order their Chiliquiles (verde sauce), Sopes, and Beef tongue Taco ( been hit or miss if they have it) Everything is awesome! See a drink u like just grab it from the fridge and they will add it to the tab. This time i decided to get my beer Michelada Style. I recommend getting some chips to go and making your own nachos at home. They stay fresh for a long time. Also their Salsa is the bomb. read more

A friend told me about this place and we decided to check it out. Walking up kind of reminded me of the scene from Bridesmaids when Kristen Wiig took the ladies to an authentic Brazilian restaurant in a sketchy area. It definitely resembled the look from the movie, but dont let that deter you from eating there because this place was delicious! I had the Enchiladas Verdes con Pollo and it was so good! I would give this 3 stars based on comparing to other restaurants that are authentic of this caliber (not the American sit-down family "Mexican" restaurant - of course if I were to compare it to that, I'd give this restaurant 5 stars). The burritos were average. The lengua was tender but kinda minced (too small) - not bigger chunks which I like. Also burrito was WAY too watery. Wanted to add salsa but their salsa was like 'red water' - so that would've been a total flooding of my burrito :( . In the end, I'm glad I didn't add the salsa because I tasted it & it was spoiled. :-( Also, I asked for cilantro & onions on my burrito & there were none. Found this little gem on Yelp of course, wow! So don't let the outside or inside fool you. In a small strip mall in a meat market, the restaurant tables are rickety, the hot sauce bottles are a little crusty but to me "no worries". The chips are thick and the salsa is a roasted wonderful blend of all things yummy! It was wonderful. Ordered the pico degallo, guacamole and the Camarones Diabla The pico was on point with heavy cilantro and white onion, the guacamole was perfect blend of garlic, cilantro and avocado and the Camarones la Diabla---best I have had on spice and flavor plus the beans had a almost smokey flavor? Well this is certainly a hole in the wall restaurant/grocery store but well worth the stop! They serve authentic Mexican cuisine, not Tex-Mex! We arrived for lunch,not busy, ordered the Monday lunch special of two tacos and a quesadilla. Super yummy. They serve a thick chip with a red salsa and a green avocado salsa. Not too spicy more of a medium with a kick. Our server must of stopped by every 5 minutes to make sure our food was good and to see if we needed anything else. When I want authentic beef and chicken tacos; I visit Mi Mexico. The tacos cost about $1.40 each(depends on the meat) and I'm full after eating two tacos. They make your food to order, so it's insanely fresh. When dining in, a friendly waitress provide complimentary fresh salsa and chips, so good. When leaving I make sure to purchase groceries as well, because it's pretty cheap. The restaurant s connected to the Mi Mexico Meat Market. I have been coming here for years and i always loved there food and i do think they have a good staff. I am hesitant to write this review but i decided to no longer go to this restaurant and this is yelp so we must be honest. While I was waiting for my food it seems i was sitting under a shelf/decor. All of a sudden a cockroach fell from ceiling and it landed only 10 inches from me on the table. It was still alive but luckily it fell on its back. I was frightened and grossed out of course so i sat at another table and told the server. If I sat in the wrong seat it could have landed on my food or my head. If a brought a friend or co-worker it would have been devastating. A gross moment like that could have caused an injury due to a quick reaction. I still ate the food because i hadn't eaten in over 10 hours. Though I did get some apologies I was not given any discount, I was too grossed out to argue and was eager to leave. I'm still grossed out now writing this review. Its too bad because there food is good and i loved there Horchata. But I will never step foot in that place ever again. I wish them well. read more
