I visited Kavas on a Saturday for brunch and overall had a great experience. Their brunch is offered Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM and includes bottomless margaritas for two hours. The margaritas were a pleasant surprise. They were full sized, available in several flavors, and absolutely delicious. I would return for those alone. One of the highlights of my visit was the mariachi band, which brought a fun and lively energy to brunch. I ordered the School Tacos and enjoyed them, especially the queso and sauce that came with them. My waitress, whose name started with a "G," was a gem. She was attentive, friendly, and always checking to see if I was ready for my next margarita. The only issue I encountered was confusion surrounding the bottomless margarita promotion. When I first arrived, the host was unable to answer questions about the two hour offer and had to get a manager for clarification. Later in my visit, another server incorrectly informed me that I could no longer order margaritas because brunch hours had ended, despite management already confirming that I would be able to enjoy the full two hours since I arrived before brunch ended. Thankfully, the manager on duty quickly resolved the issue and honored what had originally been communicated. While I think there is an opportunity for better staff training regarding this advertised menu item, it was not enough to ruin an otherwise enjoyable experience. I came for drinks and sat at the bar. We ordered 2 Fortaleza Blanco (not still strength) Tequila neat. I noticed that when a manager (I assume) saw the Fortaleza bottle he rushed over to the bartender and had a side conversation about it while looking over at us. When the bill came, I was told that we were being charged for 3 drinks rather than 2 because he gave us each 2oz pours (standard neat, but maybe he didn't know that) and was being "nice" by not charging 4 drinks. Because they were already having side conversation about it, I knew this wasn't a battle I'd win. So I paid, tipped 25% and left, but I was definitely going to leave a review. Just know going here, they will charge whatever they want for drinks and make up rules. I paid $75 for 2 drinks. I won't be back. Adding on due to the reply. The person that replied to my review was not there during my service and is lying. Neither me or the gentleman with me asked for anything other than the tequila neat, we did however have conversation about our visit to the Fortaleza Distillery in Jalisco and how they pride themselves on businesses they sell to not overcharging for their tequila. Fortaleza was NOT listed in your menu, we saw it on the shelf and asked for it neat. As a bartender NEAT is a known pour. Please don't disrespect me by making things up. Kavas has always been a go-to for me wheneve5i find myself on I-Drive. Their food is delicious and the live entertainment, whether it's the fire dancer or the live band are always great. I came during the weekday for a quick lunch and was able to get the horchata and a birria sandwich. Both were pretty good. Service was so so. I had three different waiters and when I asked one for the check and a to-go container for the rest of my sandwich with a little more consume to take with me, he came back with the containers and no consume. I was able to wave another waiter down and ask her about it, and she said that they charge extra for it. We made reservations for a party of 7 for cinco de mayo and it was honestly a disappointing experience. The host stand had a long line and seemed a bit disorganized. Once we were seated, the music was so loud we couldn't even hear the server speaking right next to our ears. Luckily, we were able to switch to a different table where the music wasn't as loud. The reservations we made had the option for Taco Tuesday but they did not have any of their regular specials and the house margarita for cinco de mayo wasn't worth it. It came in a smaller cup- you were better off getting the regular one for the extra $2. There were several times where the food runners brought the wrong dishes to us and the empanadas took an extremely long time to arrive and not really worth it. The burritos were massive and the tacos hit the spot. They have different entertainment like fire dancers and mariachi. My friends and I wanted food that was nearby the convention. It was between pizza or tacos and tequila. We were immediately seated which was nice however the tables are very close together. The inside of the restaurant is well decorated but that was the only best part of eating there. The waiter took awhile to take our order. The burrito looks good but lacks flavor. The chicken isn't seasoned there's barely any sauce on it. The chille relleno was soggy from the oil so I had to scrap majority of the outside off to eat just the pepper and cheese. The rice was really hard and bland as well. This restaurant is definitely for tourist as all of idrive restaurants are and pictures. As I said the aesthetic is there but not the flavor. Kavas Tacos & Tequila was a fun place to have a late night dinner on Christmas Eve. We weren't quite sure where to go and what would be open close to our hotel. We went to The Pointe Orlando and were initially eyeing Taverna Opa(Greek). We walked around and decided upon KAVAS. Those two appeared to be open the latest. We were welcomed into a fun colorful ambiance and great service. The music was awesome too. First mariachis and then fun upbeat music afterwards. It was also decked up for Xmas! We could eat outside or inside and decided on inside, but the outside is nice and it was perfect temperature for Xmas eve. We decided to split the Chimichanga with rice and beans. This is a good amount for a late night dinner & so easy to split. It was quite tasty with the cheesy sauce you pour on top and it was not spicy which is good and just the way we liked it. We were thinking this is going to be a tourist trap spot. Probably not that good. Overpriced. Well we were wrong. We want to give it the full 5 stars. Great food. Great experience. We came in and sat at the bar as we wanted to watch the game while getting some food. No sound but that's ok. The bartender was attentive the whole night and really knew when she was needed or not. We tried the salsa, ground beef tacos, and the steak fajitas. Wow! Everything was delicious. The salsa is endless and we thought it was fresh. The steak fajitas I still dream about. They came out sizzling with plenty of green peppers and onions. The rice was just right. They gave a small portion of guacamole and sour cream was it worked out fine for dinner. They also provided 3 flour tortillas. We did see a mariachi band in the restaurant going up to tables. They also had a photographer come around. They took our picture. Came out great. We called ahead and made reservations earlier in the week for a party of 15 people. The reservation required a credit card on file. We were advised if we did not show up, we would be charged $25 per person. That was not an issue because we were planning on going. When we got there we found a Mariachi Band playing outside. I had the Beef Empanadas and the Kava Chopped Salad with Salmon. I indulged in the holiday drink menu and got a Santa's Cookietini. The Beef Empanadas were ok. I only ate one of the three that came in the order. The salad was big and tasted good. I held the pico, black beans and corn. I left with more than half because I could not eat it all. The Santa's Cookietini was good. The flavors were blended well. I was partially full from sampling the Loaded Birria Fries. It was a big portion for an appetizer. It definitely served as an entree for two of my family members. They were too full after eating the Loaded Birria Fries to order anything else. The Mariachi Band was amazing. They came table side and asked if we had any special requests. Later they came back to sing "Happy Birthday " to our birthday twins. After, they asked for another special request in which they played and sang beautifully. They were my favorite part of the evening! They were friendly and entertaining. Kavas has a dessert cup that is presented to birthday parties that consist of ice cream, brownies, cookies, churros, and marshmallows ($45). The staff presents the cup holding a sign that says Happy Birthday and sparklers. The dessert was big enough to feed the entire group. I had a churro. It was delicious and covered with cinnamon sugar. There was also a photographer taking photos for purchase. There is an option for a framed photo or keychain. We had an issue at checkout with my sister and the server. We expected an automatic gratuity of at least 18% because we were a large party. All of the bills provided an itemized list of items ordered. After the total, there were gratuities listed of 19 and 20%. When my sister was paying her bill, the server quickly selected the 20% gratuity and submitted the payment. Why is there an option for 19 or 20%? It makes it confusing especially when the percentages are only a fraction of cents difference. Just make it one percentage and automatically add it to the bill. My sister didn't mind paying the 20%, she was upset because of how the server handled the payment submission. Besides that, Kavas was a great experience. The Mariachi Band was amazing! We saw a comedy show at the Funny Bone and ate dinner afterwards. We sat inside and it was busy and loud but in a great energy way! Server was patient and friendly and explained a few items on menu for us. The cocktails were on point but my husbands old fashioned was very light in volume when he removed the ice - very questionable but he said it was one of the best he's had flavor wise. We shared their guac, salsa, and Elote- all great and very filling. My husbands old fashioned got their Skirt Steak dinner and had to send back being well done and asked for medium. Brought my in laws, who are visiting from out of town, here last night and they really enjoyed it! I'd never been here either. I thought the food was really good. I got the steak and chicken fajitas. We were so hungry and enjoyed them so much, I forgot to get a photo! The interior is pretty cool and we were seated under this cool sort of fabric tree thing. They even had a fire performer (which I think was special for Mardi Gras, but I'm not sure). Our server, Alyssa, was so sweet and helpful! Our only complaint is the music is SO loud. Pointe Orando has definitely changed. Lots more to do, eat, and see! First time to this restaurant and it was a fun experience. Environment is fun and energetic and great for groups to celebrate. Servers are very attentive and we very kind and fun. Now for the food and entertainment. We needed up sharing the 3 foot taco board with birria, chicken and steak tacos to share. It's definitely enough for 3-4 people depending on how many of these tacos you want to crush. Birria tacos come with some broth and there are several different kinds of sauces to try. I asked for some extra spicy salsa and it was tasty but, this guy wishes it was flame thrower hot as always. Chips and house guacamole and the cheese dip are delicious. You can definitely fill up on these, so be careful. They also had an entertainer that did a routine that included dancing and fire being ignited and put out by her hands and mouth lol. We each wanted a grilled street corn on the cob (half cob), we shared an order of chips and queso, we each had a beef empanada, and we each had a chicken flautas. Now I think everything truly was delicious and I would order any of these items again. The chips and quesso were a great way to start our food journey. The chips they served are seasoned, which we loved and the quesso was sure some cheesy goodness. The grilled street corn on the cob, possibly my favorite. It was so full of flavor and you really tasted all the elements of that dish. The beef empanada was very nice and hd a nice homemade feel to it. Finally they chicken flautas were perfect, a chicken was cooked perfectly without being dry. There was a ton of flavor in that little flautas. We went to Kavas specifically for happy hour. They offer is 7 days a week, which is great! We tend to avoid point orlando because of parking, especially now that none of the restaurants validate, they only offer discounts. But we had been wanting to try this place. I'll start by saying it didn't knock my socks off enough to entice me to come back and pay for parking. If I had to be at point orlando for something else, I might stop by kavas for a meal. The staff is not super helpful or friendly. We told the hostess we'd like to enjoy happy hour, and she informed us we need to sit at the bar, either inside or outside. We found two chairs outside and had a seat. The bartender brought us menus, but the regular menu does not show the happy hour options. We asked for a happy hour menu, and the bartender brought a very beat up and dirty menu. The options are decent with both food and drink happy hour pricing. We tried almost everything on the menu: beer, margarita, elote, queso, empananas, and flautas. My opinion/expectation of happy hour is that the restaurant is serving the same portions and quality of food (unless otherwise noted) for a discounted price. That is not the case here. Sure, the prices are lower by a few dollars, but the portion sizes are also halved, at least, so youre not getting a better value. The queso came to the table, already congealed. The $4 elote is one half corn on the cob per order. This is a tasting menu, a tapas menu, not a happy hour. The corn was phenomenal, everything else was just fine. Go to black rooster, or bartaco for better options at the same price with better service. Also, all of the staff were watching basketball, rather than helping the patrons.
