Loved our stay at El Rey Court. We were in Santa Fe for just one night and I am really glad we stay here. We stayed in one of the king bedrooms that had a gorgeous fire place in it. Super cozy and the bed was super comfortable. My only complaint of our entire experience was the bathroom - definitely felt like that's where the "motel" part showed, and could definitely use an upgrade. Overall loved walking around the grounds and like the large courtyard and common areas they had. Great for a short stay in Santa Fe that doesn't break the bank! read more

I really wanted to like this place, but my stay was a disaster from start to finish. Don't be fooled by the trendy marketing or the "boutique" label -- at the end of the day, this is just a glorified roadside motel with a fresh coat of paint. The first room they put me in was practically on top of the highway. Every passing car sounded like it was right in the room. After asking to be moved, things didn't get much better. The new room had a shower that didn't drain, no hot water in the morning, and walls so thin I could hear every word of conversations outside. The curtains might as well have been sheer -- light poured in all night. Between the noise, the light, and the lack of basic maintenance, sleeping here was nearly impossible. And for $300 a night? Absolutely not. This is the kind of place where you expect $60-night motel quality, but at five times the price. Even the basics weren't reliable -- key cards didn't work, the hot water ran out before a morning hike, and promised amenities like the sauna were out of order. To top it all off, when I decided to leave early, the staff said I'd get a refund, only to backtrack later when the booking service followed up. That kind of dishonesty was the final straw. Bottom line: if you're thinking about booking here, don't. Save your money and stay at an actual hotel. El Rey Court might look Instagram-cute, but the reality is loud, uncomfortable, and overpriced. read more

I had a very nice stay at the El Rey Court in Santa Fe. It is centrally located and if you have a car you can drive to most of the tourist spots in Santa Fe within 10 minutes. They have taken an older Rt. 66 style motel and updated it all the while keeping the charm remenicent of another age. I love that they have kept the feel by keeping the older trees and plantings. It added to the charm. Our room was basic but clean and the bedding was good and comfortable. We enjoyed the pool and it was also charming and clean. They have a food truck set up in the courtyard where you can pick up coffe and a breakfast. You are also within walking distance of another great breakfast place, The Pantry. The bar is also quite nice and lively with live music. Parking was a tiny bit problematic so do not expect that you will be parking right in front of your room. All in all, it was a good stay and I would definitely stay there again. read more

I booked through expedia at a quoted price charged to me card. When later reconciling my card, I found an unexplained charge from the hotel. I called and they explained that it was an "amenity fee" not charged by expedia. I explained how I was not told about that charge and asked for it to be removed. They did. Don't pay "amenity" or "resort" fees. These are charges for nothing as a dishonest attempt to increase revenue. We have never stayed here because we have a place nearby, but we've visited SEVERAL friends who were staying here & we always recommend it to friends who will have a car or Uber, as it is a bit far from downtown to walk. Old-style motor in (all 1 story high). Compact but COMFY rooms! Some near pool & (my favorite) some on the main "courtyard" where there is AMAZING PIZZA FOOD TRUCK ON (most) SUNDAY & MONDAY NIGHTS! I never stayed at La Fonda on the plaza while Robert Downy Jr., stayed during Oppenheimer film shoot. Santa Fe has been more popular after Oppenheimer motion picture released. Constructions are everywhere and seems like a lot of artists moving in. Though, this town is expensive and not even has chain stores. ( Don't worry, it won't turn like Austin, TX, so much traffic and congested.) Everywhere you turn, boutique and original craft presented. And yes, recent renewal of " Dark Winds" TV shows set here in Santa Fe & Teseque Pubeblo. I found this boutique hotel & I m in love. The essence of American Southwest and perfectly different from others. The breakfast at Turquoise trailer is amaze. As a lone traveler, I need to know local folks. If you re looking for a local folks to chitchat, this is the place to be. A bit upscale youths showed up. I've been invited by female DJ friend later the night which I checked in. What a decent quality of life and smell the roses !If you wake up and want to grab a cup of coffee, drive down to Madrid, NM which is 30 minute away from El Rey Court. Don't forget to wear your bolo tie. I bet, you'd love the town, Madrid. After all, this is American SouthWest. read more

Book a room here for the experience of staying in a motor inn of the 1950's on old Route 66. At $350 total for a room on a Friday night, it wasn't worth it. The grounds are nice. The bar is good with reasonably priced drinks. The room was not what I would like. Very sparsely furnished. No dresser, just a cart with shelves. Very soft mattress. Minimal electric outlets by the bed with a cheap flimsy extension cord ( one outlet didn't work). Over the door A/C unit which worked but was very loud. Ventilation fan in BR had a bad bearing so it was metal on metal grinding. The stop to keep the doorknob from hitting the wall was held on either side blue masking tape. It's a 3 mike drive or uber to the plaza. The place is focused on the 25-40 year old demographic. As a senior traveler not worth the money IMHO read more

Staying here was a dream! Beautifully restored adobe bungalows outfitted in style. My suite had 2 bedrooms, a living room, and its own patio. Mini fridge, TV, and toiletries, but no hairdryer. Room was a little dark but added to the mood. The property is well kept. Lobby has a seating area with fireplace and adjacent bar. Complimentary coffee in the lobby, plus coffee packets in the rooms. Dedicated parking. The pool was closed for the season. I'd love to return! read more

Our friends had the brilliant idea of having their wedding guests stay at the El Rey Court -- and it was perfect. The setting felt both intimate and stylish, with all the right amenities, and it's just a short drive from all the magic Santa Fe has to offer. Weeks after we left, I realized I had forgotten my nice designer loafers in our room. Honestly, I debated even calling, assuming they were long gone. But I finally did -- and the front desk was incredibly kind and helpful. They called me back promptly after checking the lost and found... and sure enough, my shoes were there! I couldn't believe it. Nightmare at the El Rey Inn. I grew up visiting El Rey, I have great memories of this place as a kid. I booked it because it seemed freshly updated and of good value. This place is beyond disappointing. So much has been spent on the overall image of this place, freshly updated brand, merch, etc but the processes and guest experience are terrible. I called them to request an early check in. Check in starts at 4 and I requested a 3pm check in. They let me know the room was not ready but would shoot me a text when it was. Understandably not all early check ins can be accommodated so we waited until 4pm to check in. The room was not ready until nearly 5pm. For the two hours spent waiting nearly every guest who walked in was told the same. The room wasn't ready. The front desk staff has no way of dealing with it and their only resolve is to offer free drink tokens. The room itself does not appear anything like the heavily edited photos. It's dirty, poorly renovated, and things are falling apart. The 'Casita' we rented has a sliding glass door to an outdoor area, the lock doesn't work and clearly hasn't in a while. It's run down, beat up, and poorly cared for. The staff is slow to respond, chaotic, and offer very poor responses and resources to guests. Please avoid booking here. This a high style remake of a 30s motor court. There are several other examples on the Cerrillos but none done as well Beds are comfy, WiFi strong and the grounds are inviting. Staff is helpful and you are close to the key Santa Fe 'musts'. 2 knocks: water pressure could be better and our room had no closet Other than that, it's been a pleasant stay. My daughter and I returned to El Rey Court in Santa Fe after a very nice stay in 2020. El Rey had some very good renovations done about that time. The rooms still had the Southwestern decor with many improvements in the interiors. Our room was spacious, had two sinks with lots of mirrors, plenty of great light fixtures, new window shades, a couple comfortable chairs, and comfortable beds. We like the courtyard with lots of chairs, tables, and trees for leisure. The Turquoise Trailer (food truck) was a great addition to El Rey. El Rey Court has a spacious pool, although we visited in October. There was plenty of parking at no extra charge. We will definitely return to Santa Fe and ro the El Rey Court. We highly recommend that you stay there too! read more

Overall, my experience at El Rey Hotel in Santa Fe was a complete let down. From the uninviting staff to the lack of basic amenities like ice and clean rooms, this hotel falls far short of even the most basic expectations. We were there to attend a wedding and were greeted with our first red flag when the bride and groom, finally being able to check into their casita an hour late, were shown to a drab and sparsely furnished setting. There was trash from the last guests still present and a broken screen door. The service was painfully slow, and the staff couldn't be less helpful or less informed. I asked three different employees where I could get ice, and two claimed there was no ice machine. The third finally directed me to one, but by then, it was beyond frustrating. With the exception of one young girl with purple streaks in her hair, the rest of the staff were either rude and dismissive or just plain incompetent. One of the overnight front desk employee's response to a guest reporting a bat in their room was truly appalling and speaks volumes about the lack of care and concern for guests' well-being. She was immediately rude and dismissive, as if dealing with a bat was beneath her, saying "well I just work at the front desk, I do not deal with bats and stuff."Only when shown a photo of the bat did she even acknowledge the problem, and her response was to begrudgingly offer a new room--something that should have been offered immediately, without the attitude. As if the dismal conditions weren't enough, every vending machine was out of order, and the sauna was broken. To top it off, the wedding rehearsal dinner was a huge disappointment. The hotel had assured the bride and groom that a food truck would cater the event, but they ran out of food, leaving guests scrambling to find something to eat off-property or going to bed hungry. Water? Good luck. The only drinking water available is from two jugs in the lobby, and once the lobby is closed, you're out of luck unless you want to drink from a leaky sink faucet in your room. Speaking of rooms, don't expect any room service or basic housekeeping. Room service never came the 3 days we were there. With no clean towels and overflowing trash, we had to track down a garbage bin and take it out ourselves. The room itself felt slapped together--chipped paint, dim lighting, extension cords instead of proper outlets, and a lumpy comforter that made sleeping a chore. Needs better management. Have stayed at this property many times. Last time was for my 50th birthday and decided to book one of the so-called casitas. May friends flew in from all over and booked at the property. Well, my casita's A/C didn't work (July 29th-Aug 01). There was no manager on duty on July 29th, and after a horrid night of not sleeping, on July 30th morning, there was no MOD present. Asked for a call as soon as MOD reported, but none came. Went back to front desk and was told by the MOD that the AC not functioning was my fault (it wasn't working at check-in). Anyway, the whole experience was heartbreaking. Like me, you could first consider booking a rental where you're unfamiliar with the location, unwelcomed upon arrival, and unsupported with routine needs throughout your stay, or you could get it right the first time and go straight to El Rey to relax into community and hospitality the way we all prefer while on vacation. I loved everything about this property, from the laid-back hacienda-style rooms gathered around beautiful courtyards of well-maintained gardens, to thoughtful details like daily clean towels above the towel heater in the bathroom, a nice selection of vinyl in the community room, and great snacks and wine in case you find yourself craving after-hours. I felt especially well cared for with Malachi and their friendly staff taking care of all details from arrival to departure, able to hold luggage and arrange events. Would love to host a late summer Swim Club party followed by a candlelit dinner in their greenhouse. Definitely cause for a return trip! read more

Came back to Santa Fe and returned to the El Rey. This time , everything was much smoother. Reservation was in order. Because it was warmer, the A/C was working better . The food truck was in front and we did have a relatively cheap breakfast. I do love the hot tub area , and used it a couple times. The gardens are beautiful and landscape is a welcome change from most places. I did get a promotional rate which was a better deal. They have live entertainment at night which was loud but okay. The El Rey needs to be renamed EL GÜEY. It pains me that I have to select even ONE sorry star for this dump. It's an oddly pretentious, run-down motel with a rude and incompetent staff. We drove two days to get to the El Rey Court and arrived for our three night stay bleary eyed and exhausted. We had called the night before to say we were still on the road and wanted to make sure they didn't give our room away. We were assured we could arrive the next morning without a problem. At check in, I was (not) greeted by a dour faced woman with grey hair and a guy with glasses who informed me they were having bands playing all night, followed by a DJ, and "good luck finding parking." I'll let you process that before I continue. Contrary to what we were promised, THEY GAVE AWAY THE ROOM we paid several hundred dollars for (a three-night stay) and announced they had "no availability." Rather than take ownership of their f*ck up, they sent a nervous boy to the counter who shouted, "YOU DON'T HAVE A RESERVATION! GET OFF THE PROPERTY!" I honestly wondered if I had slipped through a crack in space-time and entered some alternate universe. I've worked in hospitality, including five-star properties, and this is so far from acceptable, it's shocking. This was followed by a "manager" coming out, dressed as if she was snaking a drain, to repeatedly laugh in my face and offer a room at their "sister property," a scroungy $80 a night motel that looked like someplace you'd expect to wake up and find your car on blocks. Um, hard pass. There's so much more that bogles the mind, but I'll be succinct: Stay here if you love throwing money away and being disrespected. Or if you swallowed whole a glowing review the owners managed to finagle from a choice publication. Or if you're more interested in having a low-rent Coachella outside your motel door than in getting any rest. If you have any standards whatsoever and want to be treated like a paying guest and a human--AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. read more

We stayed here two nights. Staff were friendly and working hard to clear sidewalks. Our room wss nimer 34 and it had two beds with firm mattresses. It was easy to find a parking spot for our large rv van hauling bikes in the back. Not a modern hotel but water pressure was good for a nice hot shower. Little courtyard areas about to sit around. My family and I have stayed at the motel twice and we just love it! Such a wonderful and beautiful property that has been renovated. The room and beds are clean. We did run out of hot water but in the grand scheme of things, it was a wonderful stay this time. I would recommend trying to get a room away from the road. Otherwise the staff and little bar is wonderful and so worth it every time. Is this the most fancy motel ever? No, but is a wonderful and unique spot to stay. We booked this place last minute and are not disappointed. The Pueblo style houses are very unique and cozy. We liked it here so mich that we extended our stay by one night. The second day we had a leak in our room snd the lady at the front desk gave us an upgraded room and told us we could stay here for the remainder of the stay. When we arrived on Monday they had a queer night to support the transgender society. It was very interesting. The bar has drinks and light snacks but no food. That would be a bonus as parking can be painful at tines. We noticed that they had no handicap parking and if people park in front of your room you gave no choice but to walk to your hotel room. The hotel should reserve one Parking spot per room so guests don't have to walk to far to get to their rooms. read more

There's no denying this place is beautiful and full of history, but our stay was extremely underwhelming and overpriced for what we experienced. Staying here was on my bucket list as a Route 66 lover. I was willing to pay the $260/night (w/ AAA discount) for a 2 queen bedroom. My email confirmation said check in was at 3pm. We got there at 3:30pm and were told to give them 30 mins. I went back in at 4:15pm. I talked to a different person who said the first person shouldn't have told me it would be ready in 30 mins and that she would give me a call when it was ready. I finally got that call at 5:30pm. The next day, checkout was 11:00am. However, considering we didn't get to enjoy our room for 2.5 hours I thought they would be willing to do a later checkout. They only offered us 30 more mins. When I checked out I wasn't asked how our stay was or anything. Overall, the room wasn't spectacular. You can stay at better places on Route 66 for less than $100. This place is appealing to a hipster crowd and charging accordingly. What's advertised on their website are the rooms that are top dollar. I don't feel I got a true feel for how lackluster our room would be using their photos. I'm sad to write such a poor review, but for $260/night I expected more. I hope this was a result of understaffing due to COVID and being busy for the Balloon Fiesta, but does it matter? Will try a different stay in Santa Fe next time. read more

Echoing other users, my boyfriend and I felt scammed staying at this hotel. We had called ahead to make arrangements and were told we'd have a renovated room and a mini fridge upon our arrival. That did not happen. Furthermore, the radiator was so dusty and directly blasted the bed, so we had to choose between hot boxing our room with dusty air or going cold all night. We had a living room area, but all it contained was a lamp, couch and little desk. As such, we only used to to hold our food since we didn't have the mini fridge. There's also no microwaves, so we couldn't heat up anything we had brought. Last, the service on the phone had been really friendly, but we could never find anyone after we arrived. I waited over 10 minutes one evening because we needed extra towels, and nobody showed up. I went back to my room, which was on the other side of the hotel, and tried calling to no avail. There was a line of people trying to check in annoyed and confused. We had to wait to request coffee in the mornings because nobody was at the front desk. Last and worst of all, they had booked the room directly next to us - any other hotels I've stayed in during COVID alternate every other room for safety. There was a woman with a hacking cough and barking dog who kept us up all night and made us feel super uneasy, which is the last thing you want during COVID times. Our Airb&b booking fell through because the host forgot to have the place ready. We had to find accommodation the same evening in Santa Fe. Ended up at El Rey Court. It was meant to be. The staff was very helpful and friendly at all times. The room was super clean, big and furnished with mid-century furniture. Love, love, love. They had live music that same day, Sunday. We had a blast. If my husband and I are going to return to Santa Fe in the future, we definitely will stay at El Rey's again. Hip and modern place! Thank you again for everything. read more

The 3 critiques I have are: #1 The bathroom still needs some renovations. The tub had an air bubble throughout the entire bottom, so wherever you walked in the tub it felt like walking on a waterbed or bounce house :/ ...#2 The amenities are advertised as one of my favorite brands, Malin+Goetz, but unfortunately the shampoo, conditioner, and lotion were not-- only the bar of soap--which was a bummer. #3 The coffee was a cool concept, from a local company that makes something similar to a steeping tea bag, unfortunately there was no creamer in the room so I wasn't able to enjoy it. I think when I realized that this place was classified as a 2-star hotel everything made a lot more sense to me, but it could easily be a 4 star hotel with the right updates. The decor in the lobby & some of the rooms is obviously incredible and a huge draw. The aesthetic is a slightly updated vintage vibe and I feel like that has a lot of appeal for a younger/professional crowd. My husband and I picked the spot because it looked so cool & clean. Unfortunately you can't judge a book by its cover and I guess you can't really judge a hotel by its pictures either. We initially booked room #44, a one bedroom suite with a private patio and separate living area. We walked in and were honestly wow-ed by the space because it was so thoughtfully curated. That said there were some major draw backs and that's kind of where the nightmare begins and comfort stops. We ended up asking to switch to a different room (#69) because #44 didn't have a TV in the bedroom (just the living area) and when we're on vacation we like to watch shows in bed when we head in for the night. Our new room was smaller but had a TV in the same space. But oddly didn't have a mini fridge in the room. We requested one but it never came. The carpet in this room is pretty terrible underfoot, sharp and rough. The outlets, furnace and a/c were all super old units and while they worked were pretty difficult to control and had limited directions from the hotel. The bathrooms in both rooms were legit terrible. If I had to venture a guess I would say that they probably haven't been updated in 20-30 years. This place is not the cheapest we could have picked and saw the pictures online but nothing really prepared me for how bad it actually was in-person. Our shower head had 0 pressure, could barely wash the shampoo out of my hair. We took a video of how bad the pressure was turned on as far as it would go. Not really sure why they don't spend another couple hundred bucks per room to just update the hardware and update the shower heads until they decide to (hopefully) renovate the bathrooms. As far as the property goes there are a lot of pot-holes in the parking lot that could be filled, or maybe someday they could consider paving it. Other weird problems: +sauna was out of order +vending/ice maker was out of order so you have to get it from the lobby and ask for some which is kind of inconvenient. They would have to make some major changes for me to recommend it to friends, and I certainly won't be rebooking a stay with them in the future. read more

I booked this hotel using Hotel Tonight on good faith and a recommendation from a server/friend/local at Ten Thousand Waves on the mountain, after being a journalist on the road all year--deeply-embedded at some of the worst startups, companies, brands, and global corporations. I reported my 18-pound Yorkshire terrier mix immediately to the front-desk agent who checked my husband and me in--Benji is a service animal registered with the ADA, knowing full well that the promo code on El Rey Court's website (PETS) did not apply since he is *not* a pet. The front desk "agent" next to the one who facilitated our check-in did nothing when I asked her where the restroom was and promptly reported back to her that the bathroom was filthy and needed air freshener since it had not been cleaned after someone took a *very* massive dump. Instead, she said, "I don't go near that bathroom. I'm pregnant." Later, after we had come back to the front lobby in order to check out the shop, where many of the brands I've guided, creative directed, and designed for feature some of their wares, she had the audacity to ask me, "What room are you in?" To which I replied, "Room 91," knowing full well that she was making a willful, illegal assumption about my dog, who is *NOT* and never will be considered a pet, legally. This is not a failure of communication. My husband saw her immediately charge our room for a "pet fee" at a 2-star hotel that has zero amenities available in a global pandemic. What's worse? The staff has no humanity. This is not the failure of one person--we gave her grace and even a free pass, since she clearly did not want to help us. So I tried to give her even more kindness and considered leaving her a baby gift, but then I decided that the lack of hospitality at this place was not worth it. You do not deserve our money or kindness. Your staff is inhumane and condescending to strangers. We've done more for you than you know, and you can't even refund an illegal charge that you've made, after making assumptions about a petite Asian girl that you assume is younger and richer than you. Guess what? I'm a first-gen, low-income Stanford graduate and your hotel is in disrepair. Your staff should all be fired. They are racist against Asians and make assumptions about us culturally and then think they've done a good job making the hotel more money for the day. Also: I'm pregnant and I have a growing tumor. Your staff needs to be fired. Your management needs to lose this property, which should be condemned. I will be reporting your lack of compliance to the state. Three of my friends and I saw the great press that El Rey was getting in publications like the New York Times and Texas Monthly, and decided it was the perfect spot for us to have a reunion. We live in different cities and flew all the way to Santa Fe and splurged on "The Lodge", which, based on its page on their website and the price, looked to be the nicest suite they had. When we got to the room we were greeted with a dark, damp apartment that felt right out of a 1970s Motel 6. This was NOT the bright, renovated, and scandi-southwest chic room that was on The Lodge's page of their website. It didn't even look like the same hotel. We felt swindled and lied to. The one single star in this review goes entirely to the kind woman at the front desk who understood our situation and gave us a full refund. She was familiar with our disappointment since the guests who had reserved The Lodge the previous night had done the same thing. Don't fall for the hipster photos. This motel is in a serious state of disrepair and dirtiness. I cannot believe how much they are getting per room considering the state of the grounds and rooms. Sure, you can take some instagram-worthy photos here if you get the right angle. Just make sure you don't include the stained, dirty carpet. Maybe certain rooms are better than others, but our $280/night room with two queen beds was outdated and dirty. We got literally 1/2 roll of toilet paper and had to ask a cleaning person for another. The grounds as a whole have not been well taken care of, are dirty, and falling apart. You can tell that this place used to be pretty great and had amazing gardeners working. Now, not so much. You can get a much better hotel close to the Plaza for less money. Or, you can spend $50 and get a similar room at a motel a block or two away that don't look so "hipster." read more
