This is about as close as a four-star rating can get for me until it becomes five. I went to the new Rey Del Sabor today, and I don't know if it was the fact that it's beautiful outside, I hit a good time, or what, but my torta was fantastic. Not quite to the level of Guerrero, but damn, damn tasty. And cheap, six bucks, and I'm totally full. Not surprisingly, I will be back, and if they raise the bar a little higher, we could have something special. read more

Great tacos. They used to be $2 a piece but the price went up sometime in the last two weeks. They are now $2.50. Pass on the chorizo but the spicy pork and salty beef are pretty good. If you don't tolerate the heat, I would not recommend the hot salsa. I wouldn't call it the hottest salsa I've ever had, but it smolders and then somewhere in the 3rd taco it is a full blown fire. read more

Very happy with this place. Love the tamales wtih verge sauce. I think they are pretty top-notch (i like to think of myself as a tamale expert, btw). They make them all homemade the night before they open and you can taste it. I would say the other stuff is also great (quesadillas, tortas, burritos, tacos, etc.). However, is it possible to criticize a place for giving you too much food? The burritos are good, but they are literally twice the size of a standard fast food burrito place (chipotle, baja fresh, etc.). The taste is better, but the portion is just soo big I don't trust myself with it. I see it and I just feel like going straight to bed. This taco stand makes everything fresh while you wait. Piping hot tacos on soft tortillas are only $2.50 each. I had the chicken with salsa rojas (red sauce) and spicy pork with salsa verde (green sauce). Both tasted great, although a couple pieces of pork were somewhat tough. The flavor was killer. I'll be back to try the other offering, which include chalupas, tamales and burritos, to name a few. read more

Fantastic option for lunch. The typical mexican lunch options of Chipolte, Oaxaca, or Qdoba leave a lot to be desired when it comes to authenticity and flavor. El Rey del Sabor nails it. Delicious, appropriately priced food, prepared by people who care about what they are doing. You know it's a good mexican food when people are ordering the food in spanish. As a sidenote, the $7 for 3 chalupas deal is healthy too -- corn tortillas, meat, sparing use of cheese! The pastelillios are really good too, although friend, $1.50 each. read more

Sorry guys Not so bueno review coming from me. I came to this stand after hearing all the raves but sadly, I was disappointed again on my quest to find so called Mexican Food. I'm 6 months preggy and was dying for some So Cal Mex. There's delish mex on every freakin corner in SoCal, whats so hard about it? why can't we have it in nyc? I digress... Anyways, the guys were very nice, wearing mexican jerseys, speaking w/ a mexican accent, reminded me of Mexican people from back home in Socal so i was suuuuuuper excited that my growling tummy was about to dig into real enchiladas. I ordered the mildest salsa and carnitas and chicken enchiladas. Man that salsa burned a hole in my mouth and i'm pretty tolerant of hot sauce! It totally killed the flavor and i had to stop eating. The meats were decent but they formed teh enchilada right there instead of how you're supposed to which is form them, and bake them so the cheese and enchilada sauce melts on top. i basically got three rolled up corn tortilla tacos with sauce and a microscopic portion of fresh cheese on top. Enchilada does that not make! The beans on the side were a liquid. I think they forgot the beans and only put the juice. Gross! The rice was pretty darn good so i'm happy at least something was right. I also ordered a chicken tamale to taste and sadly i also had to throw that out because it was too spicey. I'm a latin gal from So Cal, I can handle spicey but sadly, not "El Rey Del Sabor" spicey. :( read more

I've just returned from a trip to San Antonio / Austin and am not yet ready to come down from my taco binging high. El Rey del Sabor taco truck was the first thing that sprang to mind. I have frequented this location for a few years now and it has always been a go to taco truck. They can make things pretttttty spicy if you ask them to. Some things I order here: The Carne Asada taco, the Al Pastor, the Enchiladas (I just tell the guy to pick three kinds of meat, as they are usually out of something). The tacos are served with tons of white onion and cilantro on top, just the way I like it. They can be messy and fall apart, so be sure to ask for napkins!!! The enchiladas come with a nice white cheese on top and a small side of pinto beans and rice. I found the rice and beans to be pretty flavorless for a place that claims to be the king of flavor, but I will take naked beans over too salty or oily any day so just understand that's how they make 'em. Regulars know to ask what is sold out for the day, since they only have a limited amount of each kind of meat. The lingua was all out as well as the beef today, insert sadness. It is a taco truck after all so they dont have a huge kitchen, it happens. Also Im a bit dismayed that they keep raising the prices, while the meat quality remains the same! My coworker and I tried El Rey Del Sabor today due to their wonderful reviews and the fact that they won the Vendy's this year. We were really excited to try some tasty Mexican, but were a little disappointed. The pastelillios (doubt I'm spelling this correctly) were really good and cheap, $1.50 each. Definitely worth coming back for. We tried the chicken tacos which were tasty and fresh. You need at least two or three to be full though. Street carts are meant to be an affordable way to eat lunch but at $2.50 each you're talking about spending AT LEAST $5.00 for lunch. That's fine, but then you add a drink and something else, and you're talking about a fairly expensive lunch. I was interested in trying their rice and beans, which were truly disappointing. First off, they were bland as hell and they basically put 12 beans on top of a tray of rice. We were shocked at the portion. It would have been fine for $1.00 (that's what it was worth) but it was 4 Freaking Dollars!! Seriously! A bunch of crappy tasteless rice with beans I can count on my two hands, I felt like bringing it back and asking for my money back. Something I would never do, but was really tempted to. Most of the other menu items sounded good, but due to my inability to eat cheese, were not an option. I'd definitely l like come back and try their burrito and might do so when craving Mexican, but I wasn't all that impressed with this street cart. Great food. BUT!!!! If I ask for no onions, THREE TIMES, it's because I don't want onions. If I even say "sin ceboyas", because I know how to say "No Onions" in Spanish, just to make sure, it means I don't want onions. Why is it when I get back to my desk there are onions in my tacos!! read more

This is my favorite lunchtime (or any time) cart. $4 will get you two vegetarian tacos and it's a full meal, so I can't argue with that. But the food is actually fresh and delicious -- two soft corn tortillas, lots of cilantro, cotija, and great salsa (have tried the verde and chipotle and asked for medium -- they were pleasantly zesty but not sinus destroying). I've also had the quesadilla, which I felt was a little overpriced for the size, but it was likewise fresh, covered with toppings & salsa, and delicious. Just got back from having 2 tacos from here. For $2.50 each they aren't bad, but there are definitely better tacos for around the same price. From what i saw they only have 3 choices of meat. I had a beef and pork taco. The pork was kinda weird, it wasn't the type of pork i was expecting. The beef taco is definitely the way to go. I'm not sure if they tried to put the same toppings on each taco, or if they put different toppings on depending on the meat. The beef taco seemed to have salsa on it while the pork had guacamole. It was hard to tell because they serve the tacos in aluminum foil where the tacos basically mush together. They also messed up my order, i ordered 3 tacos but only got 2. I was only charged for 2 so not a big deal. I'd come back here if i wanted some mexican, but mostly because theres no other options in the area besides the Sombrero Cart which is way worse. read more

This place lives to the hype, the food is very, very tasty. The reason i didn't give them five stars is due to the fact the portions were kind of small; well at least for me they were. I scarfed down an entire enchilada plate, and was still starving, OK yes i eat a lot, please understand that I'm a growing boy. I am from California and I very much recommend this place. The tacos are almost like mexico...the carne asada is not quite perfect, but a welcome change from what New Yorkers consider mexican food. Chipotle, Baja Fresh, Qdoba, Blockheads, etc...not mexican. El Rey Del Sabor, real deal. read more
