Stopped by tonight for a pre-Broadway show with my family. It was a rough start when they didn't have our Yelp reservation but they figured out a table for us within 5 minutes so that was a great job on their part. It was a really busy night so food took around 30 minutes to come out, but after asking if they could expedite it since we had a show to catch, they brought the food out within 5 minutes. We inhaled our tacos. The beef and shrimp tacos were divine! Definitely worth the trip back. My daughter even asked if we could return since liked the food. Beautifully decorated, felt nice for a Mexican restaurant. Highly recommend if you're in the area, but just plan a solid hour and a half for dinner on busy nights like Tuesday when they have their taco special and happy hour at the same time. read more

Food: Birria empanadas: 7/10; The meat itself was fine, but there was something about the casing that was a bit off-putting and distracted from the filling. Chips and queso: 6/10; Just okay. The chips were harder than expected, and the queso lacked depth and flavor. 3 tacos: All three tacos were served on warm, nicely toasted tortillas, which was a definite plus. Carne asada: 8/10; Solid overall, but it could've used shredded cheese or a sauce to add more dimension--it was a bit one-note. Plantains: 8/10; Sweet, surprisingly tasty, and a nice contrast to the savory items. Fried fish: 7/10; fried to golden perfection, but the batter-to-fish ratio was off. I would've liked more actual fish. Service: 7/10; Efficient but unremarkable. Our server took the order and delivered the food without issue, but wasn't very engaging or warm. Found this lil gem and came a bit earlier Than a dinner crowd. Loved the food, back home Every Mexican restaurant gives you chips And salsa here you have to order them. Make sure you do that as soon as you sit before you order, ours came at the same time as our meals so this was a waste for us to order since we couldn't take anything to go as we were headed to the theater. read more

Well - the food was decent. Thank goodness the company was good because the hospitality was nearly non-existent. We had to ask for certain things repeatedly, our waitress could not have been more bothered if she tried. Both friends who ordered margaritas immediately made a face involuntarily as it became quite apparent the tequila was of poor quality. It was a bit loud so hard to catch up with friends. Cute bar. We went when it wasn't too crowded during happy hour so it was very fast to be service. We only got something small and two drinks and then we hung out for a little bit. The food was good and as expected. By the time we were leaving it was very crowded and packed so I would recommend coming a little later probably at around 8:00 9:00 or 10:00. Food was just thrown together A taco is the simplest food you can get - so the ingredients have to be good & it put together well. I got a fish taco & the taco itself wasn't warm - it was limp + fried cod just thrown in the unwarmed taco with some raw, unmixed coleslaw. Who ever sent this out doesn't care about taste or their customers. - There is no LOVE in the food. - My Mezcal mule was good and the bartender was nice. I should have ordered a margaritas as ppl seed to enjoy them. - Otherwise I say come during the week for HH and keep your order simple. - Ambiance is great - I won't be coming back & maybe their other food is better. The location of the restaurant is in the theater district which is great if you are seeing a show. However, even though we had reservations, we didn't have a server. It was more than a few minutes before the hostess came over to give us water and take our order. The order was wrong, so it had to go back in hopes that we would receive the correct order. Finally, another server brought out the correct order. The food was okay, not anything I'd return for. We were ignored for the entirety of our visit. We had to ask for water refills and that was a complete burden to the staff, thus we only received one refill. Needless to say, it's not worth the time or money, since there are plenty of other places to eat in the area. read more

I dined here this evening and I had a reservation after a show. We were celebrating dia de los muertos and went to a show next door. I was so excited to try this restaurant as I walk by often. The decor was cute and I really liked the ambiance/decor. We ordered the chicken enchiladas (verde sauce came on default). The food was good. It was lacking a bit of flavor in terms of heat but I had requested hot sauce. It was good but creamy and not a classic hot sauce. I really liked that the rice and beans come in a separate bowl. We did not want chips and salsa for our visit this time but just want to make a note that this is a separate purchase for customers. I am used to visiting in other states and this seems to be standard in other states for the chips and salsa price. With that said, it would be a nice touch since a lot of Mexican restaurants in the city offer this in New York. What I did notice that the service here is not very attentive. My water had not been filled on multiple occasions and when I asked for water after my meal, it was not refilled. We looked around at the other tables and their water was not filled either. I've never experienced this in other restaurants. Servers just walked by and were not going to refill unless asked and that is when you can get the attention of a server. We sat near the utensil area - which I like is blocked off with curtains. Except they didn't bother to close the curtains and I think they should for a better ambiance for their customers. No one in the restaurant acknowledged the holiday and I thought this was very shameful. It's not that I would never come back, I just felt disappointed by this experience as I had loved ones from visiting from out of town. read more

Nice respite from Times Square and good pre-show dinner option as service is quick and they have a great happy hour from 3:30-6:30! Ambiance was also fun - good for couples and families alike. We ordered the chips and salsa and 4 tacos total, 3 carne asada and 1 al pastor. Carne Asada was a little dry and salsa tasted like marinara sauce. We went to Bar Mexicana as a pre-theater dinner and it was an awesome option! They have happy hour specials every day and since we were going at 5pm before a 7pm show it worked out that we got to take advantage of those! We got margaritas which were delicious (we had two rounds of them) and got the chips and salsa for the table (it is annoying that we had to pay for this app when all places where I'm from in VA does this complimentary but we wanted them so we were willing to pay. I got 3 tacos that were all delcious - i got the 2 taco deal that came with rice, beans, chips and guac and then added another. I got the Beef Birria, Sweet Plaintain, and Calabacita Con Crema (it had Zucchini, cheese, sweet corn cream & pickled onions) and they were all really tasty with interesting flavor combos. My husband got his staple of a chicken burrito and loved it. Our server was kind and attentive - we never had to wait too long when we needed something else. We came to NY to soak in the holiday spirit and the restaurant had a lot of twinkly lights and decor so it definitely satisfied that. The perfect place to meet my girlfriends for delicious margaritas (I asked for something less sweet and their skinny margarita did not disappoint), perfectly salted chips and guacamole and killer tacos! As I was heading to the bathroom there was a roach by the stairs Also, the service at the bar was subpar. I had to ask the bartender for napkins, utensils, and water. Great new Mexican spot in the Theater District from the folks behind Mermaid Inn/Oyster Bar. The food and service are very good and the atmosphere is casual. If we had one complaint it was with the Classic Margaritas which had no taste. We switched to the Cadillac Margaritas and were very pleased.
