What a nostalgic spot! Since I was a kid, I would love coming to this local gem to enjoy their breakfast. Now, I enjoy their very generous, wet burritos that come with sour cream and guacamole. Their burrito supremo has to be one of my absolute favorite dishes/wet burritos of all time! Their shredded beef is so flavorful and works well with their added cheese sauce. I thought the carne asada meat could have had more flavor. Decent cuts of meat, with no fat or gristle. They give you the option of whether you want it with jalapeños in or on the side. I wish I would have said on the side or not at all. I'm not a fan of pickled jalapeños in a quesadilla, but that's just me. I'd come back to try something else. The worst Mexican restaurant that I have been to in Santa Barbara. We had tacos, burritos and enchiladas between us. None of the meat, sauces, or beans had any flavor. The shredded beef tasted old. Cheese sprinkled on the top was the only good flavor. Even the salsa with the tortilla chips was bland. Service was just fair, even though they had few customers. We didn't finish our mails. To add insult to injury, the bill for two people, with tip, was $55. for that much money, we could have gone somewhere good. read more

The female server is sooo relaxed at work that almost she is on her vacation. she chatted up with her colleagues at the bar and we had to wait for her finished her chatty conversation . When we asked about items, took her forever to get it. The service is just the worst. Food is ok not bad not great. They also charged 20% mandatory service fee, no wonder the service is terrible, they will get 20% tips no matter what. We will never be back again even though we live couple houses from the restaurant. read more

We'd just finished hiking Broadcast Peak and before heading back to Los Angeles we wanted to grab a bite to eat in this place just happen to be right next to the exit and in a "hidden in plain sight" shopping center. Upon entering, we were told to sit anywhere we wanted, and we chose inside since we had just been out in the sun for five hours. I did take a while for someone to come over and greet us as most of the customers were outside on the patio and there was only one server. The place didn't have a whole lot of ambience, but maybe that gets better when it's busier? The salsa and chips were very good which is your first telltale sign whether the food will be decent or not. All of our food came out hot, fresh and was good, but nothing that I would extensively rave about. It definitely filled me up and I didn't need to eat dinner that evening. Food was pretty decent, especially considering the prices, which seemed adequate to me for the most part. I ordered menudo which is often made poorly elsewhere, however this one was good and they add maíz if you prefer so (that's the way they make it where I'm from) or they can skip it if you don't want it as well. Service is a different story. We were greeted by what seemed to be the owner of the business. She greeted us nicely with a big smile and told us to sit where we liked. We got there at 10:20 am today, didn't get our order written down until 10:40, our food arrived at 11:20, after other parties that arrived after us had been served. When we got there, there were only 4 other tables busy. We ordered 1 menudo, 1 burrito and a kids quesadilla. They are severely understaffed and management should have the initiative to either hire more people, or to limit the amount of tables they serve at once to prevent further dissatisfaction from more customers. read more

When it comes to choosing a place in town for the best menudo and pozole this is the place to come to! I've been here many times and ordered their enchiladas, and tacos combo plates which were just ok nothing mind blowing. Hence my reason for 3 stars. It can be hit or miss here depending on what you order. On my latest visit I specifically came to try the pozole because my boss was raving about it. Well El Rincon did not disappoint! Not only do they hook you up with the toppings, but they are very generous with the meat. Many places tend to be stingy when it comes to serving meat in soups, but not this place! The broth was very flavorful, and the meat was melt in your mouth delicious. I have yet to try the menudo but I will definitely come back for it since everyone raves about that too. The best part is they offer menudo and pozole everyday unlike other places where it's only weekends. *****Five stars for the pozole! Customer service here has always been good to me, and the ladies very kind. Parking is a little tight here but there is additional parking at the very end of the Plaza if you can't find one in front of the restaurant. I used to come here for many years and just recently returned. It is one of the very few good sit-down Mexican spots in town that doesn't require a wait. The burritos in particular are large and delicious. They also have a comprehensive menu with fajitas, shrimp dishes, and more. The service is excellent and it's a great place for families, as they have a nice kids menu and a friendly vibe. I also appreciate the location in the back of a quiet shopping center. My only criticisms are that their ranch dressing is not good - tastes suspiciously like hidden valley ranch from a large Costco bottle - and that they serve their plates at roughly 2 million degrees. Seriously, warm them if you must, but nobody needs a plate that hot. I don't get it. If they changed it, I'd definitely give them my 5th star. read more

A very strange corner indeed.... I really like the location, tucked away in El Mercado. You can find everything there - including this unique spot that serves menudo everyday! What I love: The interior is beautiful. There is a good axxess deal. The menu has many options - chile Colorado! What I don't like: Chips are terrible! Like out of a two week old bag from the store terrible. The salsa is a saving grace but wow worst chips in SB. Menudo is a main stay on their menu, it's served daily. The menudo is decent but you can get better menudo at abuela's house or other SB restaurants if your grandma doesn't make menudo. Chile Colorado was good but not excellent. A classic family restaurant, with the friendliest wait staff and really fresh food. (Their tortillas told us all we needed to know on that subject!) Quantities are huge (take-home boxes will be a must) and the prices are really friendly. Good Mexican beers available, although the wine list ("house white" or "house red") could use a little expansion. A little hard to find the first time, tucked away in the rear of a tiny shopping mall. Worth it. read more

Chile relleno was simple perfection and gooey with melted cheese. Chips obviously made on site, thick cut, with just the right amount of salt and grease. Addictive. The salsas are good, but hot. I've come here a few times over the years but was never "impressed" or "wowed". I know I like their chips and salsa, their service was great but this was never my go to on the regular kinda place. I'm glad I went there recently. The service was on point - they were super attentive to my toddler. Refilled our drinks as needed, checked in on us often (and the place was pretty busy too). Most parents know that when you eat out with your baby - you have to feed them first and you're lucky if your food is lukewarm by the time you get to it. MINE WAS HOT!! I stopped here for a lunch quite awhile back. In fact, so long ago, I barely remember it, but then I did take a picture and the new Yelp software reminded me to review it. This is right off the 101 freeway, so it can be a passing through type of place, as well as a local place. There didn't seem to be a lot of locals, however, as it wasn't crowded, but I came a little bit at an odd time. It isn't a large place, and it has a bit of an old feel to it. I remember it being a bit dark, with furnishings, but not lively at all in feel or energy. The food is decent but not memorably outstanding, at least what I had. They are known for their menudo, but then, I wasn't drunk when I came, and we all know menudo is good hangover food. We've never been here! We went on a Sunday and it was busy. It's a cute little place at the back of a strip mall. There is a warm wood feeling inside with several booths and a patio area outside. We walked in and were told to seat ourselves. The only booth left had a clear view of the kitchen. We chose our "go to" Mexican plates. I had a chile rellano with a cheese enchilada and Wifee had a crispy chicken taco with a cheese enchilada. We tried the chips and salsa and we both thought the chips weren't fresh. The salsa was runny and had little depth. As we waited, I watched the kitchen line work. They put out a lot of soup! Either Menudo or Pozole, it was coming out fast. I noticed a microwave being used a lot and wondered why that was necessary. We received our plates and they were insanely hot. The server warned us before but WoW! I was disappointed to see my plate was a huge mess of sauces, rice and beans. It was one of those plates where you don't know where the enchilada begins and the rice is located. My wife said her taco as ok just had one flavor, her rice was bland but she liked the beans. Server never checked on us until the check came. Overall, with all the exceptional Mexican restaurants in SB we won't be back. However this place has been around for decades so maybe our experience is not the norm. read more
