So glad we stopped here. I ordered the pollo picaso (chicken, jalapeño, onion) and it was excellent . Wonderful char flavor. The jalapeños had ribs and seeds still in them and were hotter than my northern taste buds are used to, but I enjoyed the dish a lot. My husband's chicken tacos were OK. The chili relleno was filled with chicken and was OK. Friendly staff. Next time we come to Georgia we'll stop here. read more

First time here, I went in for lunch on a week day and had a pretty good experience. I was a little disappointed based on the rave reviews, and figured I just hit them on an off day. Queso dip was great, chicken quesadilla was ok, rice and bean portions were TINY, and the salsa bar left a lot to be desired. Round two was this afternoon. Opted for the Queso dip and chicken quesadilla and then also got a bean and cheese burrito and a chalupa combo meal. Chicken quesadilla came out before the other combo and the cheese wasn't melted inside. Boo. I just added a little Queso dip to even it out. The bean and cheese burrito was an absolute joke. It was maybe 3 inches, 3-4 bites max. The "chalupa" was a crunchy taco shell under my beans and rice. It actually took a little while to even find it. The plate was very sloppy and had more (canned) tomatoes, overcooked green peppers and onions and beans than anything else. I ended up just ordering another chicken quesadilla and keeping my fingers crossed that it'd be cooked.. and boy was it cooked! One side was completely burnt and it tasted like a burnt grilled cheese. At this point I was just ready to get out of there, so we cashed out and cut our losses. I feel like I have a grease hangover... like I just ate 10 mcdonalds cheeseburgers or something. Probably won't be back for a 3rd try. read more

Watery food, stingy with their queso, weird tasting chicken, and bone in nachos. Upon 1st looks we should've went somewhere else but with us reading reviews we thought this place would be the best choice for the Mexican food we were craving. Boy were we wrong! To start off we ordered a medium cheese dip ($8).... when it arrived it was a small bowl of cheese dip and so each person at our table ended up purchasing their own cheese dip due to size. The cheese dip wasnt even warm. Fast forward to the food... 1 friend got chicken fajita nachos; chicken didnt taste like chicken, lettuce she ask for was brought on a separate plate that had about 1/4" of water on it, barely any cheese dip on nachos, and about 1/3" of grease at the bottom of her plate. 2nd friend got steak nachos; her nachos were also lacking in cheese dip and her meat even had a bone in it. I ordered a shrimp quesadilla and a side of beans. My quesadilla was bland and not worth the $7 price tag plus the beans were watery. I have never had Mexican food as bad as this. We were all nauseated before leaving the parking lot. Honestly I've had better tasting food give me food poisoning than this place. I dont recommend. read more

By far the best and most authentic Mexican food in the 'boro. The service is always friendly and quick and the place isn't filled with drunk undergrads or loud televisions like other places in town. You can't beat the chips, salsa, and condiment bar. Be forewarned that the hot salsa is actually hot. Meals are inexpensive and delicious. Dinner for me and my husband is always under $20 with tip, making it a no-brainer on nights we don't want to cook. I typically order three flour tacos with carnitas or chorizo, which I think are the tastiest meats they have. The only thing that could improve El Rinconcito is a liquor license. read more

Dont be deterred by the strip mall location and the minimalist atmosphere. This place has amazing food! Its always hard to find places to eat when I visit my fiancee in statesboro but this place isnt just good by statesboro's standards; its better than most of the mexican restaurants Ive been to in much more foodie centric cities. The salsa bar here is incredible. As much as I like the food, I sometimes have trouble eating all of it because I fill up on chips and salsa! This isnt watered down flavorless salsa like you get at many of the less authentic Mexican restaurants. I especially like the tomatillo salsa and whatever the really spicy red salsa is (I forget the name and I cant tell what kind of peppers its made with but its AMAZING). The chile relleno is the best dish on the menu. They stuff it with chicken so its more more substantial than the cheese stuffed peppers you get at most mexican eateries. However, it is topped with plenty of cheese, so if youre a cheese lover, fear not! The only bad part about this dish is that its obviously not very healthy and sometimes I feel lethargic after eating it since its so fatty. The last time I came here, I opted for a marginally more healthy choice and got the enchiladas. They are also very good, especially with the aforementioned red salsa. I got one steak one and one chicken. The meat was flavored very well and not overcooked (so many places overcook steak). My only gripe was that the chicken and steak were cut into such tiny blocks that eating it with a fork was kind of awkward since the pieces of meat kept falling off. I think pulled chicken and larger chunks of steak would work better. El Rinconcito is a great value on top of being delicious. You can easily eat a ton of food for less than ten dollars. Be sure to try the agua fresca with your meal. Its always delicious and unlike every other place ive been to, El Rinconcito will give you free refills on it (that is, if you even need refills because the serving is HUGE). read more

I have eaten here twice. The first time was pretty good. They have a salsa bar that has several sauces and a few other things. Beware NOTHING is labeled. They have an item on there that looks like avocado, but it's not!!!! It is blended jalapeño and it's extremely HOT!! Today we sat at the bar where they have an open kitchen so you can see your food being made. Which is nice except for the fact it's down right nasty!!! Filthy is being nice. I would love to know how they pass a health inspection. We will defiantly never eat there again!!! O did I mention I got food poisoning today! read more

I was really surprised that the quality of the food I got here was not of the standards that other people raved about. I ordered tamales, they are an authentic Mexican food, kind of like Mexican soul food, so this is what I use to gauge my feelings about a Mexican restaurant. The tamales were TERRIBLY bland, especially the filling, which was some unseasoned chicken, instead of the well-spiced tender pork you find in good tamales. The masa had an okay texture, a little too crumbly, but no flavor at all. The beans and rice weren't half bad, the portions I was given were pretty small, though. BUT, I am willing to delay my final decision because A.) their salsas are SO good and flavorful, they even have tomatillo, my favorite, right there where I can grab as much of it as I want, and B.) so many other people have had good experiences here, I want to have faith and try it again whenever I make it to Statesboro next (who knows when that might be). read more

Great food. I love this place. They have moderate prices and great quality service. I recommend the "Maria" and the "Burrito Grande". They also have a salsa/topping Buffett where you can add lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, etc for free. My cousin showed me this place and said that it was "the best Mexican restaurant in town". We come here fairly often for lunch, and the food is consistently good and reasonably priced. The chilis rellenos are the best I've had outside of San Antonio. The fact that it's filled at lunchtime with working folks attests to its tasty good value. Love the tomatillo and spicy green sauce. The best Mexican restaurant I have ever been to! It is real and authentic Hispanic food. I am Hispanic so I have a lot of knowledge in the spanish food culture and community. This is not a "Mexican American" restaurant that servers the almost microwaveable dishes like El Sombrero, this place has amazing food and the nacho bar is such a great way to really get stuffed. I love their jumbo burrito and quesadilla grande. They are HUGE. I usually have another meal leftover to take home. As authentic as you can get in Statesboro. Highly recommended!
