A.K.A. "El Rinc" Please just go eat here! The chip bar is so much fun! I get pico de gallo and add a little extra cilantro and get some sour cream to dip it in. And then when I run out, I go back! For an entree I prefer the beef quesadilla which actually has what most other places would call steak. The tortilla is nicely buttered. The chile relleno was delicious. The only thing I've had here that I did not like was the tostada de caviche, a fish dish with pico de gallo and avocado pieces. The fish had been heavily marinated in lime and was too strongly flavored for me to finish. I was done with El Sombrero after eating at El Rinc for the first time! read more

My wife and I have been searching for good Mexican food since we moved to Georgia in 2012. None of the restaurants in Augusta fit the bill so we started searching in nearby towns. El Rinconcito is, so far, our favorite in terms of food. If you're looking for Tex-Mex or a fancy place to "dine", you'll probably be disappointed. The food here though, is really good. Very causal atmosphere and authentic Mexican food. I had the Arroz con Pollo - which is grilled chicken strips and onions over rice with melted cheese. Re-fried beans and salad complete the meal. Unlike more other Arroz con Pollo dishes I've had, this one had only those ingredients. It was a simple dish but very tasty. My wife chose the Casadia Grande Shrimp. It was huge! We could have shared and both been full afterwards. Salad completed her dish as well. She says it's the best she's had. I have to mention the Salsa and Chips bar. El Rinconcito is the most authentic Mexican restaurant I have eaten in Georgia. I have lived in Mexico for a small time and the food reminds me so much about the food I was surrounded in Mexico. In my opinion stick away from the main menu item, and go with the items offered on the small menu (like the tacos and tortas). With these you can get the casual fare of chicken, steak, and fajitas. But if you guys feel adventurous try some of the other meats offered (especially the al pastor). I've been eating here for 5 years now and would bet that it's one of the best Mexican places in Georgia. read more

Very Authentic! All of the different salsas you can get at the nacho bar is alone worth going for. The hot green sauce is incredible.

Fast food is not their claim but the food was TASTY!!! It's a college town so it's loaded with window signs. The inside was much better than I expected and the food exceeded my expectations! There were 4 of us and our food came out fast. Complimentary chips with salsa and more trimmings are on a self serve bar. Couldn't believe it. read more

First thing, I checked out the kitchen and it was clean. My husband and I had an excellent meal of pollo diabla, chillies rellenos, and quesadilla. Enjoyed everything. We were greeted at the door and our waitress was lovely. I will go back if I ever pass throughout town again. read more

Sara Bond Corey Green English 1101 6 July 2015 Recently, a couple of friends and I went to El Rinconcito, a local Mexican restaurant in Statesboro, Georgia. This restaurant was recommended to us by our CL (community leader) of the dorms. He told us that if we were craving Mexican food that we should definitely consider trying this place. We decided to eat out somewhere instead of the boring old dining commons since we've eaten there everyday so far at Georgia Southern. Since El Rinconcito is a Mexican restaurant, there are many expectations people have when eating there. El Rinconcito covers many of them, including the Mexican themed colors, which are yellow, green, and red, the unlimited free chips and salsa, the stucco walls, the menu being written in Spanish, and the waitresses of Spanish descent. The only thing that was different about this restaurant was that there wasn't any Hispanic music playing in the dining area, which you would normally expect in the average Mexican restaurant. El Rinconcito is in a small shopping center in an older building off of Fair Road. The exterior of the building made us hesitant to go in, but hearing all of the good reviews about the place, we proceeded into the building. As we walked in, there was a small store directly at the inside of the door that was a part of the restaurant. The store had many Mexican foods, including: chips, candy, and many authentic Mexican Groceries. This immediately drew us into the place. Past a large opening in the wall, there were many tables and a buffet with chips and a variety of different salsas. Four of my friends and I sat down at a booth in the corner and ordered our drinks. We had a waitress of Mexican descent, which is what you'd expect in a Mexican restaurant. More on, in most Mexican restaurants, or any restaurant with appetizers on the menu, the waiters normally bring it out to you as soon as you sit down at your table. Instead, El Rinconcito has a chip buffet, which is a very convenient and unique option, and unlike anything we've ever seen. The waitress was very polite and patient as we all ordered our food. The wait for our food didn't take long at all; the waitress never missed an opportunity to fill up our drinks and check up on us while waiting. As our food came out, everything was correct and our food looked amazing! I had beef enchiladas with rice and beans, which was awesome! The beef was very flavorful and the tortilla was crispy but not overcooked. Also, the beans and rice were not anything spectacular, yet they were still good. All of my friends had different things. Including beef nachos, and quesadillas. They all agreed that the food was amazing! The waitress was overall very good and kept up with us pretty well. However, she was very nosey and continuously tried to get into our conversations, which was somewhat rude. She also said we looked like high schoolers. Even though we graduated about a month ago, one of my friends found it offensive. I feel that age shouldn't be brought up when serving customers. When finished eating, we asked for the check to be split up into 5 different parts. They just gave us one and told us to split it up at the cashier, which was very inconvenient. As we were on our way out the door, the cashier asked if we wanted to leave a tip, which was kind of rude, therefore making us not want to leave as much. Overall, El Rinconcito was a pretty good experience. It was a very clean, authentic, and unique establishment. If you don't mind waiting for awesome food, and dealing with a couple of nosey waitresses, I would definitely recommend this to you. read more

Most college students choose to go to El Sombrero, because it's more Americanized. My friends and I as an alternative decided on going to El Rinconcito. El Rinconcito is a family own restaurant that serves authentic Mexican food. The restaurant is located at 2 College Plaza, Statesboro, GA 30458. You can eat there between 9am-9pm on weekdays and 9am-10pm on weekends. When we first arrived at El Rinconcito we were a bit hesitant to actually eat inside. The exterior of the restaurant looks very rundown to me because it is placed in a deserted like shopping center. It was also very abnormal because before you actually go into the restaurant you have to go through their Mexican grocery store. After I realized that half of their restaurant was a little grocery store inside, I knew that the food would be authentic. It was a small place with 5 booths and six tables. You did not have to wait for a waiter to seat you like most restaurants. So we sat at one of the booths that seated six people since we had five all together. Most Mexican restaurants I have been to will bring you complimentary chips and salsa to eat while you make your order. The restaurant was very clean and had a warm welcoming atmosphere. At El Rinconcito you can just get up and get your own chips as well as any type of dip and toppings. They have a salsa buffet that has salsa, of course, guacamole, sour cream, and jalapenos. One of my friends that accompanied me ordered cheese dip for the table. I was surprised when they brought a big bowl of cheese dip to us. At all the other Mexican restaurants I have been to, they always bring small bowls of cheese. They cheese dip was really good. The downside of the cheese dip is that it was a tad bit too watery. I am use to slightly thicker creamer cheese dip. For me the more watery the cheese dip the more of a mess it makes. Our waitress was very kind. She seemed very young and was engaged in a little bit of our conversations that we had at the table. She may have been a bit too casual though. She happened to say a few things about our age that upset one of our friends at the table. It did not take our waitress long to come and take our drink orders. She was very polite and was back in two minutes with all of our drinks and gave us time to decide what we wanted to have for our main course meal. The menu was handmade and printed. There is a different special all every day. The menu had a great variety of meals from nachos to floutas to chicken wings. I decided to get the chicken nachos with jalapenos, sour cream, lettuce, and tomatoes. While you wait on your food you can actually watch the cooks cook your food from your table. The kitchen is right behind the salsa buffet. My meal actually came with guacamole and refried beans, which I asked the waitress if they wouldn't put any of it on my nachos. They did put the guacamole on my nachos however they did remember not to put the refried beans. It was not a big deal to mean since the guacamole was on the top. One of my friends who liked guacamole said she would eat it so I just scooped it up with a chip and gave it to her. Their nachos were very good. They gave me so much I was unable to finish it all. This was even better because I could just take it home in a box and eat it the next day. Since being a college student on a budget you need to save as much money as possible. After we had all finished eating the nice waitress came shortly with our bills. At most restaurants they ask if you want separate checks. They however did not instead they put everything on a single check, which was inconvenient on our part. When you go to pay they will then split the bill how it should be. At El Rinconcito you pay back on the other side where the grocery store is. You also tip your waitress here. You just have to put in the cup with your waiter or waitress' name on it. I can say that I will definitely be eating here again. I was exceedingly satisfied with my meal here. The inside of the facility was clean and decorative.
