Utterly boring and bland. Some of the most boring and insipid "Mexican" food I have had in Atlanta. I have had more authentic flavor at Taco Bell( avoid the East Point location btw, its nastier than usual) than what I was served here. There sauce on the enchiladas tasted like Ragu sauce from a jar, the chimichanga was pasty and the cheese sauce put on it was watered down to the point that there was no crispiness to the chimichanga whatsoever. I only give one star as I couldn't give a zero as the mush inside my taco at least tasted like chicken and the guac salad wasn't black. Completely disappointing and would advise driving a little bit and hitting Taco Veloz or any other decent Mexican place than this sham. Wait staff seemed nice enough but they don't make up for the utterly boring food. Even the African-American owned and operated Taco Pete taco stand 2 blocks away had better flavor notes than this place. I still am amazed that ex-Californians said this was authentic. Obviously they were raised on El Patio TV dinners or Old El Paso from a box and used them their "authenticity" basis. Great food if you have the palate of a 10 year old raised on Spaghetti-O's but not if you ever have had authentic Mexican food. Never again! read more

This review is really just about the tacos, since that's where I live in regard to Mexican food. I've treated myself to the steak, chicken and carnitas tacos and let me just tell you.... ALL their meats are tender and well seasoned! There's a review or two that mention less than friendly service... I mean it is what it is. I don't go to Mexican food spots for great service, I go for great food and questionable health scores. The place is really clean and every time I've been there (after 6 on a weekday, when I leave the train station) it's pretty empty inside. But the ladies that work there are ok, not very talkative, and I'm good with that. As long as the food puts me in a coma when I'm done, I'm definitely a fan! read more

Greetings! My classmate and I stumbled upon this place by happenstance. The outside is not appealing and truthfully the inside isn't much better. However, you do get a sense of authenticity. Our waitress was nice but she seemed preoccupied. This was evident when both our drink orders were incorrect. I ordered a Texas frozen Strawberry margarita. I received a lime margarita. The chips were dark and old in appearance and taste. However, the accompanying salsa was pretty good. The overall dining space is small and they seem to struggle with social distancing. Even though they have signs posted regarding social distancing. We debated on paying for our drinks and leaving; but I found a more "isolated" table up front. The waitress never came to check on us and no one bothered to asked why we moved tables. Make no mistake they all knew we had moved. I heard them questioning it in Spanish. Yes, I'm fluent in Spanish. When the food finally arrived it smelled delicious. Based on the miniscule pieces of steak and chicken, I could tell they cut a lot corners (Texas fajitas). I immediately noticed the pico de gallo on my plate, which I specifically requested to remove upon ordering. Two of Camille's tacos came out correct, but the 3rd taco was wrong. She sent it back to the kitchen for redo and it came back wrong again. We didn't complain we just made the necessary adjustments. At which point, we decided this woild be our 1st and last visit to El Rocio. She said her tacos were delicious BTW. The rice and refried beans were really good as well. This wasn't a horrible experience just a location I personally would not revisit. Provechito...! read more

I had an off day and wanted Mexican food so I gave this place a try, I enjoyed it. My server was nice and prompt, you get chips and salsa while you're waiting of course. The food is good but definitely not great. We came for the lunch buffet which is 11am - 3pm daily. In fairness we came around 2:15 and most of the food was dry & old. What was still edible was actually pretty good and you can't beat the $5.99 price. The service was fair. My bf had a margarita that he said was also okay. Overall the restaurant is exactly just that, okay not great and not bad but if you're in the area and looking for some decent food it's worth a visit. if you live close by like we do it's definitely worth it because you don't have to go far and the prices are cheap. read more

Pssst... I'm going to let you in on one of the best kept lunch secrets in Atlanta but let's go ahead and get all the other stuff out of the way first. When you walk in to any businesses there's an unwritten contract for the things you've signed up for by being there. You go into a Ritz Carlton and you've agreed to have well-dressed people be overly nice to you because you're going to pay out the ass for it later anyway. Go into a dive bar and you expect to see people smoking, over-served, and talking about nothing important whatsoever. Go into most family run Mexican restaurants and you've signed up for car crashes and novela tear-fests on Telemundo while having your face melted by the jukebox. Order a beer and get over it already. Continuing the weed-out, yes, El Rocio bombed their health score not too long ago. Passing or failing a health score is about as predictable as who lives and who dies in the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan. Sure, there's best practices and habitual offenders but the health code is so strict and the enforcement so arbitrary that all most restaurants can do is put their head down, keep moving, and hope they don't get shot. If an inspector with clipboard in hand watched most people make dinner at home, they'd fail before they ever finished cooking. Then again, my favorite Chinese restaurant was shut down twice by the health department before they finally got their act together so yeah... I'm guess I'm that guy. Anyhow, El Rocio delivers some serious value at lunchtime. The have a small buffet that's good, not great, but for under $7 you can ruin the rest of your afternoon and get as stuffed as a python that just ate a harvest pig. They always have a rotating selection of things and I've seen enchiladas, shrimp, fish sticks, beef stew, you name it. Sometimes they have pitchers of cinnamon spiced horchata and they even have fresh guacamole. The service is.. however good it is or isn't going to be that day but everyone is nice and you probably won't have to break out the Spanish to get what you want. I went to El Rocia by mistake the other day. I had a retaurant.com certificate for another place just down the street. I tried to redeem the certificate and the told me I was at the wrong place. I already ordered so i stayed. No big deal. The food was prompt and good. Regular prices. Then the server comes and tells me that they are going to give me a discount since I came in expecting to use my certificate. They didn't have to do that. But they did. It was nice. i will go back just because of that. And of course to eat. read more

We have been to El Rocio around 6-8 times. We like that it's close by and parking isn't an issue. I really like their carne asada tacos- they are terrific. Even before their recent failing food score, we had a miserable experience. We popped in for dinner to find their jukebox blaring AND the Telemundo program also on full blast. I asked our server if they could turn down the volume, she smiled and walked away without making any adjustments. I'm thinking she may not have understood my request. The food was average on that visit. And, with it being so loud, I decided not to return. It's unfortunate that restaurants in the area are so indifferent. This little mom and pops place is a nice spot for some good eats! I've seen this place for years , but for one reason or another never stopped. I regret that now. The services was nice and friendly and the food was very good. My daughter really enjoyed her taco and I had the fajitas which were great! We will be coming back soon! This is another business that has been in the East Point area for many years. It sits on a corner behind the bank right across from the train station. My Mom likes this restaurant much more than I do. (She raves about their beef soup.) Actually, if it wasn't for her I would have forgotten all about this place. It is a typical family restaurant. It's not cozy or very aesthetic inside. The service is pretty slow and not good or bad...it's just service. You order, they place it, you pay and you eat and or leave with your take out. Sometimes they answer the phone if you call...other times they don't. I guess it depends on how they feel. The food tastes edible but not exotic or bursting flavor on my tongue like I except from Mexican cuisine. I feel like the dining room is not as clean as it could be and the lighting is very poor, not in a sexy way; but in an annoying 'turn up the lights so I can see what the hell I'm ordering' kind of way. I am assuming the owner is the stoic Latino man who stands behind the counter and never speaks or makes any expression towards his customers. I will also assume that the lovely middle-aged Latina woman who takes your order is his wife or close relative. I would prefer not to eat here but if I was ravishingly hungry with a 20 spot in my pocket, I would give in...not so willingly though. read more

You might find a bit of a language barrier if you're a non Spanish speaking Gringo, but not enough to keep you from ordering. Food is fine. Not incredible. Solid. Really, there should be two scales. One for East Point, and one as judged against anywhere else. On the East Point scale, it's probably 4 stars, just because food options are so thin around here. Anywhere else, it's probably 2.5. Good food, good service. I've visited the restaurant three times. Twice in the evening and once during lunch. The lunch service was crazy! We were forgotten about many times and constantly had to ask for the same things. I think this comes from a lack of help during the rush. Knowing this, I think all the wait staff should pull together to assist each other. It should ultimately be about customer service. I am up and down about this place. It is right across the street from the Marta East Point station. The salsa they serve isn't anything close to authentic unless you ask for the "spicy" kind, which is indeed spicy. Being a native southern Californian leaves me a bit jaded when it comes to mexican food.. Their tamales are delicious! & I typically order their veggie fajitas, which come with mushrooms, potatoes, & of course bell peppers & onions. Horchata is very authentic & salsa verde is delicious. But, their rice doesn't seem too legit. The cheese they use is thick and who knows what kind it is. Ordered a taco which was an american taco & not like the ones your order al pastor, also a chicken relleno with very salty chicken and the above mentioned mystery cheese. It's really a hit or miss, they have a few solid items (and other hidden ones for those who prove themselves able to speak spanish & handle real food) but the rest falls flat. read more

i LOVE this place, this is one of East Point's best kept secrets-the food is authentic, the waitstaff is nice (albeit not always fluent) and it's very clean. i've never had the lunch buffet but i hear good things, however my husband and i go here at least twice a month to pig out on cheese dip and watch Univision. it's small, tacky (but i LOVE tacky) and occasionally you get the pleasure of watching a small mariachi or ranchero style band. fair warning: the food can be spicy, which is another reason why i like it, so if you've got sensitive gringo tastebuds, man up. i highly recommend the Enchiladas Verdes con Pollo, my husband loves the tamales. and also be forewarned: this is a small restaurant and on occasion they don't have everything on the menu. keep your options open and you may be very pleasantly suprised if you try something different. p.s. you get bonus points (and sometimes other menu options than the ones listed) if you speak a little spanish :) read more
