Fully exceeded expectations! This is definitely a bit of a hole in the wall, small business. But don't let the lack of bells and whistles scare you off because they have some of the best tacos in Atlanta! We tried the Al pastor, asada, carnitas, and camaron (shrimp) tacos. The crispy meat of the Al pastor was our favorite, but everything has great flavor! The tortillas seemed handmade and were the star of the show to make the tacos really stand out compared to other spots. They have a small fridge of sodas with a limited selection but solid options like a few different flavors of Jarritos. Service was super fast and friendly. They serve free chips and 4 types of salsa with your food too. The green crema was our favorite of those. I would recommend backing into the parking spaces because the pull out into traffic can be a little treacherous! read more

Absolutely SHOCKED to see this place rated so high. Came here late night as a last resort after seeing a play at the Academy theater. There seemed to be only one server on the floor for the late shift, she was kind but it was clearly chaotic for her to serve, take to go orders, running food... so service was not the best. Ordered 1 birria taco and a steak burrito, also tried my friend's elote corn. I knew the birria wasn't going to be good when I saw the consume, meat was flavorless & dry. Steak burrito meat was flavorless and a lot of chewy parts. The corn was the only decent thing and that was thanks to the Tajin. I coulda just had Taco Bell and had better food. And I was hungry and the food still didn't taste good, which is crazy. The salsa quad was interesting, 2 spicy cream- like sauces and red & green salsa. No margaritas in this casa amigo, but I did try the hibiscus water and it tasted like water down cranberry water. Inside is very small, a few booths & tables in the center. Hidden Hapeville Gem. When you dine in, you get chips and....not salsa, but SALSAS! 4 different in-house made salsas with varying levels of spice. I got a quesabirria which is a quesadilla with stewed meat and birria dipping sauce....SO flavourful and delicious. They have different types of tacos and drinks like horchata. Lots of street parking. I don't recommend parking in front of the store because it's a beeyotch to get back into the street. There is also a lot behind the building. I went twice and my experiences were literally night and day! I went at night the first time and the tacos were pretty good I got carnitas and barria. The Guacomole is tasty and the table sauces are hot hot and more hot lol The chips were stale as can be and they weren't making anymore for the evening. Either way service was good and the tacos hit the spot. The restaurant was clean the first time. 2-3 weeks goes by we go back during the day and I was mortified! My mom gets seated and I go to the back to use the restroom. I look on the floor in the hall I see something moving and assume I'm tripping. I come out the bathroom looking hard at this point & there are roaches everywhere!! Very underwhelming. I decided to order Mexican food via UberEATS. Maybe that's where I made a mistake, doing take out. Some food you just cannot do take out and get the experience or the flavor that you were expecting. I ordered two veggie tacos, two shrimp tacos, three Birria tacos, and rice and beans. Everything was packaged nicely. It came with the condiments and such they usually come with these dishes however the tacos itself had zero flavor or seasoning. I was waiting for the flavors to bloom in my mouth and it just didn't happen. I didn't taste the onions, garlic, cilantro or other seasonings. It just didn't happen for me. Ok now. Hidden little spot in Hapeville, GA. Little spot with big flavor. I wasn't hungry. But my greedy self saw it...well inparked in front of it to go to the Natural Health store next door. Friday night and the place had one dine in guest and minimal take out orders. Still kept an open mind. Ordered chips and queso and drinks for starter. Waitress pressed us to make our meal order so we gave order(8 tacos). After several minutes we received our meal order and began eating and then came the chips and queso. It was cold, so pretty obvious it did not get delivered pre meal. We added a lil salsa to thin it out as it cooled to a point that was more like a spread. Not great on its own or with assistance. When Maria finally returned to check on us, we were finished with tacos and we let her know about queso. She was visually annoyed by our report and even acted like it was not what we reported. She huffed and puffed and loudly shared with the kitchen that we were problematic. So unprofessional. The food is basic and mediocre and certainly does not warrant that kind of-f arrogant response. When I got to the counter, my phone had died and I asked the cashier/server. If it's something for me to charge my phone she points out the wall and not go to the wall sit down and charge my phone. It was only one man inside the restaurant only two of us inside Two other men come in after me a couple of minutes after me and she brings them a bowl of chips and salsa and have some menus OK so I assume she didn't think I was gonna order food again after I told her at the register that I want to pay with my phone so I go to the register to give her my order cause I already know what I want. I want a steak burrito. I also want to ask her what comes inside the burrito when I went to the counter she walked to the back and she did not come back from the back. She may contact with me from the back and continue doing what she doing not acknowledging my presence at the counter so I go back to sit down assuming maybe she'll come to me with some chips and salsa as well and the menu couple of minutes later another man walks in sit down gets on his phone at this point I'm looking to see if she's gonna try to serve me or ask if I need any assistance or if I'm ready to order she ignores me goes to the third man that came inside the restaurant after me give him chips and salsa and a menu and ignores me brings food to the first two men that came in after me at that point I could see that I was being discriminated against. She was refusing to serve me no communication I was hurt. The reason I was up that early that morning was because I had a physical and drug testing for my new job. I'm starting. We placed two separate orders, when getting home the orders were in the wrong containers, so why write the orders on the containers? Roaches , roaches, roaches like crazy!! Went one time and we thought the tacos were great and decided to go back a few months later. Sat down the table was grimy. Ignored it went to the bathroom to wash my hands so I could eat. On the way to the bathroom I counted 24 roaches and/eggs sacs. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting it was like the bathroom in a kidnapping movie and it smelled horrible. I don't understand how they can charge so much for their food but can't seem to perform basic cleaning for their guests. This place needs to be exterminated or shut down. We took a chance on Don Chon after reading a variety of mixed reviews. The parking is very limited, just like every other business in this area. The place is small and there was one lady cooking and one lady taking orders. The dining area wasn't the cleanest, with the walls falling apart and damaged furniture. The server came by with chips, 3 types of salsa, and some fresh snacks. My colleague ordered the rice milk (I believe) and he hated it. He actually gave it back to her and she just laughed. We each ordered 3 different tacos and they arrived 5-10 minutes later. They are your average traditional/authentic Mexican tacos. You pick the protein and they add cilantro and onions. The tacos were decent and reasonably priced. After we finished, we sat there and never saw our server again. We eventually just went to the counter to pay. This is my absolute favorite authentic Mexican greasy spoon. It's a small quaint location with a wide variety of menu items and the best Carne asada tacos I've ever had. The appetizers are a little different from the traditional chips and salsa, the offer fresh cucumber, radishes and lime with your choice of 4 sauces for dipping.
