Recently had dinner with our neighbors, one of which has a litany of food restrictions. I was nervous that there wouldn't be much for her to eat when they agreed to try La Catrina with my wife and I, but I was wrong. Our waitress was very patient and helpful in directing our friend to a number of dishes that would be ok for her to eat. The kitchen was also very accommodating in tailoring her food to ensure her needs were met making her meal and experience all the more enjoyable. As for me, I dove right in and started off with some guacamole which was fresh, creamy, and very enjoyable. I then moved on to a bowl of pozole which was very authentic w/ hominy and a very nice broth. For my main course, I went with the Barbacoa Des Rey. Very good and again authentic. Served with rice and beans with a side of fresh corn tortillas. Finished the night w/ Dulce de Leche and an order of Churros. The Churros were enjoyable, however, the Dulce de Leche was a show stopper. Huge portion and extremely decadent. One of the better that I have had. While I do not drink, my wife and neighbors ordered some of La Catrinas signature cocktails and were extremely happy with them. There is a large bar and the restaurant has weekly entertainment to give the restaurant a night life vibe. We really enjoyed our dining experience at La Catrina. The food was authentic Mexican and excellent. Drinks were solid and desserts were a big hit. Service was outstanding. Looking forward to coming back to our New Mexican go-to so I can dive deeper into the menu that includes the regional dishes I have come to love from my time in Cali and Mexico.
