El Super is a very large store, almost warehouse-sized. One could even describe it as a mini Mexican version of Costco. Upon entering the store, I visited the deli section to purchase food. The dining area was dirty, unkempt, and honestly disgusting. We had to go out of our way to clean a table ourselves just to be able to sit down and enjoy our meal. That level of uncleanliness is unacceptable for an area intended for customers to dine. The products are significantly overpriced, while the overall value is average at best, if not slightly below average in quality. The employees generally lack professionalism and are not customer service-oriented. During one of my shopping trips, the deli employees, including the deli manager, attempted to sell me food that I believed was inedible and did not meet appropriate food safety standards based on its temperature and the length of time it appeared to have been sitting under the heat lamp. When I politely requested a fresh batch, the employees complained about the request, dismissed my concerns, and proceeded to package and sell food that I believed should not have been offered for sale. At the same time, I was charged for a greater weight of food than I received, and a price different from what was advertised was applied. Correcting the transaction took approximately an hour. No consideration or compensation was offered for the unnecessary time, inconvenience, or effort required to resolve an issue that could have been handled properly and professionally from the beginning. In my experience, the deli department created the impression that customers must carefully monitor every aspect of their order--including pricing, weight, and food quality--to ensure they are charged accurately. On a separate shopping trip, I searched for a product I typically purchase at another Mexican grocery store. Although El Super did not carry the specific flavor I wanted, a newer employee named Brian provided excellent customer service. With gentle prompting and encouragement, he took the time to locate the same brand in an alternative flavor. His professionalism and willingness to help made the interaction a positive one, and I was happy to try the alternative. Despite my concerns, El Super does have a few highlights. The bakery offers unique and creative desserts that maybe worth trying. The potato wedges are standard yet decent when served hot and fresh they are enjoyable. The flan, however, was underwhelming, as it had a noticeably watery consistency. read more

Wow this is a super El Super. The panaderia is amazing. I haven't seen apple tarts or some of this stuff anywhere else. This is like grocery store number 2 or 3 in Wilmington. I would shop here of all places. The meat market has some good options too. Weirdly enough the lady did not know how to count in any language even when I held up my fingers. Service was bad I had bought 6 wings and they weren't fresh I had ask for fresh ones and they said they couldn't make fresh ones I asked if I was able to change it for something around the price range and the lady said no she was being extremely rude then I asked for the manager and he wasn't even helping had went to taste the wings with no gloves and then when I asked for her name she said that she couldn't give it to me so I stayed and recorded her they are very unprofessional and very rude I don't now reccomond just go to the food 4 less across the street read more

They have good sales on veggies and meats sometimes. You just have to stalk the weekly specials. Tried the pupusas...I forget what it's called, but the one with the beans, chicarron and pork. Usually enjoy coming here for the great deals on Wednesday until today. They had tomatoes advertised but it looked like they were out. So I asked for a rain check and they said they don't hand them out on Wednesday. Which in the past I never had this issue before. Anyways I thanked them and left without making a scene but I did file a report with the federal trade commission to investigate the matter. The employees are all great. And the produce. (By all means read this review but if you need to go to El Super just go to the Long Beach location!!) The prices and selection of Mexican products is what drew me to this store, even though the parking lot is sketchy as hell and the parking spots are way too close together. I put up with it but I've had 2 bad experiences with the meat department. Service wise the ladies and gentlemen behind the counter do their job. Are they butchers, from what I found out NO! I asked for 60 pieces of chicken because of all the markets in this area they have the cleanest freshest chicken. I get home and on both accounts I'm short a few pieces. The first time no big deal, I just go get what's missing. But the second time they gave me everything in a box and assured me it was all there. So I call and they tell me to take the box back. After packing everything up and driving back they tell me they can't do anything about it. So I asked what was the point of asking me to take it back? If I decided to return the chicken according to them it's trash. They can't sell it. So I tell them the ladies swore it was all there. So the manager tells me it's my responsibility to know if the ladies working behind the meat counter know what they are doing and know how to do their job. If you've come this far re read that last sentence. At that moment I told him I was not aware that the people behind the counter were not trained to do their jobs correctly. So on top of blaming me for what happened he tells me my 2 options are to take the chicken back home and buy what I need again or they would give me a refund and throw away the chicken. I am taking into consideration the covid-19 allowances in my review : Well before covid-19, the security guard who stands at the door, short bald man, has a custom of denying customers entry if you arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the closing time posted on the door. One time, I arrived 14 minutes before closing time posted on the door and the Security Guard told me NO! Closed! I pointed at the store hours posted on the door and he waved me away like a fly. I walked back to my car and saw two women dressed like they were going to a bar at the door speaking to the guard. The guard pulled up a shopping cart and let them in as he bowed to them. (Royalty? Queen of the Ghetto? Maybe) Yesterday, I arrived just before closing time and the guard did not let me in. I pointed at the store hours posted on their door and advised him that they need to change the Store Hours on the door and on Google because Google stated that they were still OPEN. TIP: - Go to Food 4 Less down the street. A person employed by Food 4 Less will lock the door and advise you that you have a limited time until closing. The Security guard at food 4 Less does not choose who gets to enter if within the 15 minute period before closing time posted. . Security only watches for loss by theft. read more

The services has always been great always long lines to get food but because I enjoy the food I don't mind they always have 1 person help out people waiting while the rest mess around in the back and go me seems like they are playing the few times I've come during lunch or in the after noon the people serving me my food are su rude like I'm asking them to pay for my food. Pretty good place to get groceries. A bit cheaper than the more popular super markets. The store has been going through renovations since about 2-3 months. They took over the previous store Valu Plus. They have lots of good deals on many of there products on a weekly basis. If you are looking specifically for Latin products then this is the place to go. They have a lot. From cheese to soda and candy. They also have a tortilla shop inside the store, so if you want to spend less money on tortillas you can buy the store brand they are good. They also have a butcher shop inside if you want specific types of meat. My only issue with this store is the parking. It's not great. It's a bit small since they share parking with like 9-10 other small stores. Check this place out. read more

Does anyone else love checking out grocery stores or super markets when visiting other places? I have this strange little love for doing just that, but especially in a different country or neighborhood than my own. El Super was a fun place to visit. I've gotten very familiar with Mexican markets over the years, and El Super has a reasonably good selection of items at a good price. For example, the small ass avocados are 5 for $.99 (See photo). Along with fresh produce, there is a nice selection of ready made ceviches, salsas and beautiful looking cakes and pastries. I ordered a cake for my sons first birthday party and I need the cake to be picked up by 9am. I ordered this cake on monday of the week prior to party and left all the decorations for cake with a pick up time for 9:00am. So Saturday sept. 10 comes 9am for pick up the cake is no way near ready. The lady ask me to wait 30 mins and the cake will be ready irritated I say ok. I walk back in a little after 9:30 to get the cake and she is still decorating it. I didn't leave the store with my cake until 10:00am an hour later. Completely not happy as I had tables and chairs delivered to my house at 10 that I was not home to receive. My sons party started at 11:00. This delay from the bakery here made me get off my schedule by an hour. I was given a flan cake for time exhausted waiting on cake to be completed, but that do not help the fact that I was late start my sons party because of this delay.
