    Tres leches under $7
    Brenda L.

The good: This is a Mexican food market with items that may be harder to find in your average American store. Items like nopales, jamaica flowers for tea, pan dulces, conchas, etc can be found here. They have fresh agua frescas and a fresh guacamole bar. The store is very clean and organized. It was surprisingly void of any scent. The cashier, Jorge, was really friendly and helpful. He asked about our day and put our tres leches cake into a bag because the edge was dripping. A lot of reviews say this market is small but I thought it was really big! I haven't been to other Northgate Markets however. I got a slice of tres leches (fed 6 people) for under $7 and it was delicious! I wanted to get a small tres leches cake but it only came in 8" cakes or larger. There is plenty of parking. They had a variety of Mexican cremas to choose from and pre-marinated/spiced meats. The bad: I couldn't find canned black olives. They had green olives though. I guess olives on enchiladas must not be an authentic Mexican thing? The interesting: They have self check-out kiosks that require that you scan the barcode on your receipt in order to exit. I've never seen this feature before!

Everything on this store is perfect but when it comes to the meat omg!! It takes hours to get call!! It's somehow frustrating. That you get a number they are about 5 men in the back working and only 1 is handling all the numbers and you end up waiting about an hour to get called! Very bad

Was looking for an authentic tres leches cake and I surveyed my authentic Mexican friends. Most of them directed me to Northgate market. This location was the closest to me.... I haven't been to any of the other locations, but this place is smaller than what I imagined. It's a compact grocery store, probably the size of your average Trader Joe's. They have all the necessities if you're looking for a Mexican/Hispanic spices and ingredients. The prices are fairly cheap and they have a hot foods section that seems interesting. Interesting as in I would go back and make some purchases. They had several tamale varieties also. The cake itself tasted authentic. I did like the mocha twist as most tres leches I've had have been the traditional whipped cream icing. I guess it passes the authentic tres leches flavor. I'm not Mexican so I have my own favorites. In my opinion, I've had better, but to each their own. I visited around 5-5:30 on a Wednesday, so I guess I came during rush hour. There were only two lanes open and it was fairly slow. The store itself could be a little tidier...hence the 3 stars. Otherwise everything else was good.

Bought some ceviche the shrimp wasn't marinated enough was still a bit raw I waited till the next day to eat

Bought some ceviche wasn't marinated long enough the shrimp was grey instead of pink I waited till the next day to eat

Cheese tamale: greasy, not enough mesa. Really poor quality.

This location is not as good as the other locations. They never have fresas con crema and the tamales are always overly greasy. I got one today which was completely unacceptable. It was dripping in grease and didn't even have enough mesa to cover the filling. They have someone manning the tamales so I don't think I would have chosen this thin tamale but this is unacceptable. The store also has an unfriendly vibe. I go to the other locations and don't feel anything shopping and buying my items but here I get a distinct what are you doing here vibe. It's from the customers and the cashiers. As a black person I don't feel welcome here. I really hate coming to this one and will only come if I have to. The bad tamale and substandard service make this store a hard no for me. I won't be returnimg.

I want to give this place five stars but I honestly can't. The store is very tiny in comparison to other grocery stores and they don't have all the items that I need. They are practicing safety covid measures by placing plastic glass screens to protect the employees from the customers at the registers. I like that they also have these protective screens by the carneceria. The four star review is based off of the sweet Mexican bread selection that they have which is awesome. Also they have different type of fresh squeezed juices which is another huge plus for me. They have different types of juices like mango, strawberry, and horchata; all freshly made as early as 8:30 am. You can pick up hot Mexican drinks too like atole and champurado. Overall if you're looking for an authentic Hispanic grocery store, this is the place you can do your shopping at. Just don't expect it to have everything you need. I'm hoping to see an expansion in the near future.

Came in for bolillos (Mexican bread) and people were crowding around the bakery waiting for them to come out fresh out of the oven. They're worth the wait! A gentleman named Daniel (manager maybe) came in to take orders and have people prepay to facilitate everything. He was very helpful and even went behind the bakery counter to help out. Everyone's happy.

Big sign says 6.99 for a pack of coke. Then you get to the cash register and they don't honor it.

Review #866 2025-038…read more I first discovered Grocery Outlet about a decade ago in Fresno, & was attracted to the unusual finds at a "grocery store," such as an Olaf bike helmet, Curious George: Discovery Beach Game, etc. The first S. Bay store opened 6 years ago in Redondo Beach, just before COVID-19; it's a bit out of way to shop there. And about a year ago, they took over the former Big Lots location in Lomita. What is Grocery Outlet? They're a discount grocery chain that sells name brand groceries & fresh produce for 40% - 70% less than conventional grocery stores. How? By buying overstocked, seasonal, closeout, & discontinued items from various suppliers. This "opportunistic buying" allows them to acquire items at significant discounts, which are passed on to us. My 14 YO daughter's swim team does this away meet "gift" (junk) exchange where they create a goody bag filled with their fav snacks & drinks. They're kids so it's obviously junk foods & sodas, except for the handful who treat each meet with consideration of this bag o' treats may hinder their performance. I'm grateful for the less expensive options at Grocery Outlet. Since I don't agree with their choices, I started creating my own carbo-load sustenance (fresh fruits, granola bars, nuts, etc.) on competition days. Grocery Outlet offer pretty great deals on fresh fruits, I especially loved the 2-lb. strawberry pack that my husband got recently... so fresh, juicy, & sweet! I got some red cherries (at $2.99/lb.) that were sweet too! Not all produce offer better quality & prices, I'd say it's more like 50-50. Another recent find was A-Sha Spicy Seaweed (only 99¢) & Keroppi Mandarin Noodles with Silly Spicy Sauce (60% discount). Store hours are 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM daily, just a couple hours shorter than the traditional stores. Wide aisles are well-stocked & organized, but you may not always find the same products at your next shopping trip due to opportunistic buying, & what may be priced that day may be priced differently the next day (e.g. Quaker Chewy Limited Edition Valentine Minis: Chocolate Chip with Sprinkles was 99¢, & 2 days later it was $3.99). Also, it's important to check the expiration dates for those too-good-to-be-true deals, they usually have a short expiration dates or are already expired. Yikes! There's usually only 1 register opened even when there's a line, I wish they would opened another register, but the cashiers are typically quick that sometimes I have to load my own bags. Sign up for the WOW! Crowd with your mobile number to enter sweepstakes, track savings, & purchase history. Download the app to see what's in store, get access to insider events, & digital offers, including a $5 off $25 coupon at registration. Grocery Outlet may not be our main go-to store, but it's certainly a great back-up to the traditional stores.

It's really not an issue with me since this market has it all and obviously up to being well stocked in our neighborhood to keep us shopping in our own backyard. I commend this Ralph's for not servicing our residents with sub par groceries typical in non-affluent areas. My experience with checkers find them to be cordial and efficient.
