Only been here twice, a year apart, and had great food and service both times! House Margaritas were great too!

The ambience was average for a Mexican restaurant; nothing spectacular caught my eye. My order was ready when I arrived for pickup, and the service was standard. Plus, the food was delicious. I ordered the steak and shrimp tacos. I received an uncut strip of uncut steak, five seasoned grilled shrimp, refried beans, and shredded lettuce. I ate the steak like it was a piece of fried chicken (I laughed at myself). I recommend this restaurant, and I will return again soon. read more

I will start by saying that our family has been patronizing this restaurant since the 90's and it has long been one of our favorites. A random visit last weekend will be our last. We ordered from the lunch menu, 4 lunches and waters that were very mediocre, with very little portions (lunch sized-hardly any chicken on the small quesadilla we paid extra for) We were charged $80 and after having a conversation with the (assuming) manager who did not listen to my concerns, finally took off a small portion, paid $67. She explained over and over that because we chose 2 of the same item from pick 2 (quesadillas) and added chicken- they needed to price everything individually (full menu priced) meat-5 each, beans, rice, etc... despite small lunch portions and pointing to the lunch menu item when ordering. The conversation was a waste of my breath and the food was subpar to begin with. Not sure if the management has changed over the years (surely it has) but we left with a terrible experience. read more

We just had dinner there and it was a wait to get it. We were seated but they had two big parties. The food was nothing spectacular for us. The rice is always not hot at all the meat part of the dish was hot. Maybe they were short on cooks today. Maybe not. We didn't like being charged an extra $1.34 cent to use our debt card. They have a CASH price and a CARD price. We have only seen this with this restaurant, El Tapatio. Tea was $7.50 for two glasses and was never offered a refill but we ask for it to go on checkout. We also noticed that all the dishes that we have order now don't include RED BELL PEPPERS just green. Cheaper I guess. Don't plan to go there anytime soon or at all. read more

We visited this restaurant on a Friday night. They were pretty busy but we were able to find parking and seated rather quickly. The food was okay. It really lacked in flavors. It was a consensus. All 4 of us. The steak had a lot of fat. The guacamole didnt really have much flavor. The rice was very good and so were the refried beans. I think this is a one and done place for us. Raleigh Road/Wilson El Tapatio location mostly sucks, however the service is excellent. Dishes are mediocre and average and may be the reason why people still go there - because they don't know any better? The West Nash St/Wilson El Tapatio location is more flavorful and has thoughtful preparation for sure. Haven't been to Raleigh Road location in a good while, so ordered fish tacos and it was the dumbest plate I've ever seen. Three lonely fish slices plain w/ nothing else, no red cabbage, no chipotle sauce, no creativity, no nuthin on lanky ass tortilla shells. (think of plain hotdogs like someone from Massachusetts would order) Served with Mexican salad and homely rice. I've had fish tacos all over North America and this was the stupidest fish taco served ever. Hard to fck up a fish taco. I'll watch a YouTube video and make my own next time. read more

I was dying for good mexi for lunch since I have not have some lately, and unfortunately I was stuck at work. I have always passed this place on the way into work so I figure I shall give it a try. From outside to inside, it's pretty standard of these kind of mexi, or rather, Tex-Mex in my opinion. They do have outside patio sitting, and being it was a high 60's weather, it was kind of perfect. Looking over the menu, I was not about to have something heavy, full of starch and grease, and it just so happened that I spotted on their blackboard on the way in that they have Huevos Rancheros (Ranch style fried eggs) for lunch special, so that's exactly what I ordered. Over all, the taste was pretty good, and their salsa with chips has good spice and crisp. I would find myself here for another lunch perhaps. read more

I ordered the Nachos with shrimp for $13.25 and received some mess. There was about 20 nachos, 8 shrimp, 2 spoonful of rice, lettuce and some onions. We have had this before and the portion was more. I called and they said they were busy so there is nothing they could do. This is sad that you pay for something and it's not what you are use to getting. We will make sure no one from our family will order from them again. I could have just had Wendy's and been very happy. Don't do takeout with these people or you will waste your money! read more

This place will ALWAYS be the one to top I've been consistently eating at El Tap since around 2004 and I have experienced their food on every level. While their food and service were always top notch, when they decided to expand and redesign their plating/dishes it just amped up the fiesta!! Although I don't drink, I've head the drinks are great, the chips are ALWAYS crispy and light (never greasy or oily), and the dishes are never bad. read more

Can't speak on the Raleigh one, even tho I live in Raleigh. I hear it's got good reviews tho. I recommend Enchiladas Banderas or Enchiladas Suizas. Taco salad is good too, but small. I did get guacamole with a "gone bad" taste and smell in my take out one time, and didn't know til I was home. But that was a one off experience. The chips and salsa are chefs kiss! Went in for lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon. Greeted and seated immediately. Friendly staff and prompt professional service. Chips and salsa to start. Chips fresh and salsa pretty good. Good size margarita on special. Tried one and was very much to my liking. My daughter and I both decided to try the Guadalajara fajitas. Out to the table fast served on a sizzling cast iron platter. Too much for either of us to eat. Both wound up with take home boxes. Huge pieces of steak chicken and a few pork ribs mixed in with onions bell peppers and a bit of chorizo sausage. Overall delicious! Rice cooked perfectly. Beans also done very well. Creamy and had good flavor. Will definitely be back. Bring an appetite if you plan to visit. Portions are large! New to us but we enjoyed the experience. Plentiful parking. Inside dining room was attractive and comfortable. Staff is pleasant and helpful. Outside dining is available but there was a bit of a plague of tiny flying bugs that was distracting and we discovered mid-meal that the patio is actually for smokers. Huge menu. Guadalajara Fajitas and Texas Fajitas were great - but I will take home at least HALF of the Guadalajara Fajitas, which is a plus for tomorrow. Highly recommended. read more

Was hoping for some authentic Mexican food, but our experience left a lot to be desired. I ordered the shrimp salad (quite good) but came out without dressing. My son ordered the pollo relleno. Good as well but unfortately they first brought him the chili relleno. We notified the server of the mistake, and we waited 25 min for the coorect dish to arrrive. We also ordered queso dip as an appetizer, but it arrived after our entrees. I also orderded a side of guacamole. I had to remind the server twice, that it never was brought to us either. When it did arrive, it was not fresh guacamole, but some sort of processed guac. It was the worst guac ever. Also, a side of guac on the menu was $1.25, but I was charged $3.15 on my bill. Finally, the server offered to refill my iced tea and he filled if up sweet tea instead of unsweet. The salsa is not good either by the way. No spice or zing to it at all. Bland! It was one problem after the next, and the food was definitely not good enough to make up for it. read more

The atmosphere is very inviting. After sitting down I unwrapped my silverware and it happened to be dirty. We had to wait five minutes for our server to come to our table and ask for our drink orders. We received chips and salsa and the chips were good however the salsa had little to no taste whatsoever. We also ordered the cheese dip as an appetizer and I must say that it should be considered a sample because it was so small. As my meal, I ordered the Texas tornado and the chicken was cooked nicely and was very tender however the entire burrito was lacking flavor and was very bland. Visually, it was great. My friend got the build your own combo which included his burrito, soft taco, and a enchilada. When delivered to our table he received a hard taco instead of soft so they gave that to him for free and got him a soft taco. His entire meal was bland and had no flavor. However visually it turned out okay. The pitcher margarita was a big disappointment because although it might be more for your money, a lot of the alcohol content is watered down because of all the ice they put in to the Pitcher. Overall our experience was disappointing and the server had a absolutely no personality. I would not recommend this place to any of my friends. read more

My fav Mexican food on the face of the earth. One of the few reasons I miss Wilson, nc. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu but my fav is chicken burrito with cheese on the rice + beans. Cheese dip is a must. Freshly made guac is undeniable. Margaritas will take you there. Always down to eat at el tap any day of the week! read more
