Firstly, the service was less then plausable, as when I tried to poke a friendly conversation to one of the employees, they had glossed me out and waved their hand away from me as if I was unimportant. Secondly, the food. It was less than average, a far cry to what it used to be. My first ever visit was lunch time today. Restaurant was cheerfully decorated, absolutely clean, and the staff very friendly. My food arrived quickly, the portions were generous, and my meal was delicious. The manager came around and asked each customer if everything was alright. My waiter was very conscientious, friendly, and efficient. The staff works well together to provide great customer service. I enjoyed my visit and I will gladly return often. read more

However, when we went up to the counter to pay, the waitress who seemed new anyways, had put the wrong prices on our tickets. Another lady had to change that, then they changed the prices on the menu and failed to inform us of those changes and the changes were not listed on the menu. One of our party members ended up paying $12 for a meal that should have been $7 or $8! We have been here hundreds of times and they have now changed the menu and were not nice about it. The waitress seemed like she was new and didn't know what she was doing...she claimed she didn't hear us say lunch. So don't go here on the weekend or after lunch because you can't order from the lunch menu anymore. They used to let you order from the lunch menu and they just added a $1 after lunch hours. Went again to San Jose & ordered the same Shrimp Rice dish.. this time the nice large shrimp were cooked perfectly, but I forgot to request the cheese sauce be on the side (or left off), so I was too full to finish my nice shrimp & took them home to enjoy. I had asked for Hot Tea, and received Herbal Tea, which I don't much like, so it reminds me now to ask about the tea, (or put tea bags in my purse). Not a problem.. just information for future tea drinkers to be aware of. Neighboring table had Fajitas sizzling skillets & it was so enticing, I will order some next time! My wife and I love eating here. We usually get the pick 2 or 3 entree and are more than full when we finish. As is par for the course, chips and salsa are served immediately. The salsa is spicy and quite good. Most of the time the wait staff is on point, but occasionally we get a sour apple in the bunch though the service is never lacking. I've eaten here off and on for years, and I think today was for the last time. Service was mediocre, she gave off an air of don't give a damn. Food was ok, nothing to write home about. Music was too loud. Every other Mexican restaurant in town picks up your check and payment at the table and processes it. The particular server can't be bothered and told us to take it to the front. I have been here before and they usually do, except for prima donna. Today was not my first bad experience here, and my friend said to me "I've always thought the food here was mediocre" as we were leaving. I apologized to him for suggesting San Jose. Best Mexican food in Wilson. Unlike El Tapatio, the food here actually has some taste. The salsa they serve with the chips is perfect. The wait staff is friendly enough, most importantly very prompt. You can have guacamole made fresh right at your table and exactly to your liking (it will be a LARGE portion, enough for 4-6 people). Has a good "Mexican" vibe and a full bar with a few TVs if that's your thing. Ordering take-out over the phone is challenging sometimes, but not a deterrent. Service was horrible had to wait 8 minutes to ever even tell are server what we wanted to drink. The food is good, the service is fast - I wish I had gone here last night for el cinco de mayo.. Probably a bit better then El Tapitio overall. San Jose is your standard fare Mexican food for North Carolina. I usually eat lunch there about once a month. The service is always fast and friendly during lunch hours. I really enjoy their chips and salsa. I normally eat one of their lunch specials which run between $5-$6. I recommend their tacos and chili rellenos. read more

I alerted my waitress of my rare but very serious food allergy when placing my order. When my food arrived, low and behold, there is the exact thing I requested to leave off my plate. The food here was okay, not great. I had the burrito & 2 tacos combo and noticed they did not have any hot sauce on our table, so I asked the waitress if they had some habanero sauce. She replied, "What?" I repeated, "habanero sauce". So she goes and in a couple minutes returns with a bottle of the green stuff. We're from Clayton and frequent a restaurant called Fiesta Mexicana and they keep this hot sauce on the table. So, you would think most any restaurant with Mexican cuisine would keep a bottle of habanero sauce on the table, or at least not look at you weirdly when you have to ask for some.
