My family and I recently stopped in here to catch up after a reunion. The servers were super nice and pushed some tables together for us all to fit. The ambience of the restaurant was super cool and it had a bunch of fun murals everywhere as well as a themed bathroom. To start off most of us got Carne Asada tacos with a side of refried beans and rice. they were good and paired well with the chips and salsa. I decided to get the quesabirria tacos with a side of consomé and it was okay. It kind of tasted plain and didn't have as much teas in it as I would like as well as cilantro and onions. The consomé was good, but the actual birria meat of the taco tasted plain. It was nothing to write home about, especially since we come from Az. While heading south on Hw.75 my wife and I, along with some friends stopped at El Tapatio in Okmulgee for dinner. There seems to be plenty of parking. the restaurant appears to be clean with an abundance of servers. We were greeted at the door with a friendly host that guided us to our table. Our waiter was very professional, courteous and efficient. We received plenty of complimentary chips and salsa. We also ordered a small bowl of their white sauce dip that was very tasty. I ordered the special dinner. You really don't want to order this item unless you have a huge appetite. I'm a big man and a big eater. I couldn't eat it all. My wife ordered a taco salad. Our friends ordered the pineapple fajitas and shrimp cocktail. Everyone was pleased with their food and service. The only issue I had was my order came with a tamale that I found to be very dry and was lacking flavor. That's the reason for four stars I do recommend this restaurant, and plan to stop again the next time I pass through Okmulgee. read more

Our family regularly visits Okmulgee. We decided to try El Tapatio about 9 months ago. We were so pleasantly surprised! We LOVE Mexican food and I think this is the best restaurant we've been to in Oklahoma. It's our go to spot every visit too. The chips and salsa are always soooo good. Tonight we also ordered some queso - yummmm. I usually enjoy getting one crispy taco and one enchilada but tonight I tried the carne asada and WOW The seasoning was pure perfection. It was thin and tender. When I complimented the staff they explained that they choose the best quality and I totally agree. My kiddos always get bean burritos. They gobble them up! But my seven year old saw my asada and begged to try it. He was sold! My hubby got the #5 and cleaned his plate. The staff are ALWAYS, always, always friendly, quick and go above and beyond. El Tapatio has got some atmosphere! The tables are all hand painted in different themes, always lots of people talking... having a good time - it's just a feel good place with excellent staff and delicious food. We ordered a fajita platter. It was oversalted. The meat was stringy and tough. The plate was hot, not sizzling, as we have been served in good Mexican restaurants. The waiter did not bother to give his name, bring plates for the chips, so we were stretching across the table to reach the chip basket and salsa. The salsa was the consistency of tomato juice with Tabasco and something else that looked dark, but had not substance. If passed through a strainer, there would be no chunks of tomato, cilantro, onion. We arrived before 5pm. I asked the waiter if he was in a hurry to serve someone else to which he replied he wasn't. I am visiting Okmulgee this week for my job and decided to eat lunch here based on the number of cars in the parking lot. There was one open space. I walked into a packed dining room. Luckily, several tables were leaving. I was greeted and offered a beverage and a basket of tasty chips and salsa was delivered right away. There were numerous options available for lunch as well as the regular menu offerings. I decided on the Chicken Fajita Salad. The chicken was very tender and well seasoned. There were grilled peppers, onions, and generous dollops of sour cream and guacamole on the top. There also was pico de gallo mixed in. It was a delicious blend!!!
