I expected to see the Fonz walk in at any moment. It was a blast from the past. Our server, Jennifer, took good care of us. We didn't have to wait long for anything. She was quick, friendly, and professional. I got a chicken fried steak, baked potato and fried okra. I started to get mashed potatoes but I asked if the potatoes were powdered. They were, so I got a baked potato instead. It was a good choice. The okra was fried to perfection and the serving was so large I had to leave half. I liked that I was able to order a small portion of chicken fried steak. The cream gravy is why I order chicken fried steak and this cream gravy did not disappoint. My cousin got the special which included soup, salad, and a sandwich. My other cousin got a chef salad. We all enjoyed our lunch and looking at the decorations. I will stop here again next time we pass through Henrietta.

Next time I come thru there at breakfast time, this it where I'll eat.

The…read morehamburger for the taco was burned and the small piece of yellow cake with brown and pink frosting was a joke. My husband had a cheeseburger and fries. The fries also were overcooked and most were left in the basket. The server did her best to be pleasant. The booth seats were "repaired" with orange duct tape on them. I can appreciate a tasteful amount of uplifting quotes and religious passages in a place of business, but the owners took it to an extreme. Virtually on every wall--even in the bathroom--was another scripture or some religious advice. Too much is just too much.

I can't comment on the hamburger other than the ones I saw on another diner's table. They looked old school fantastic. We had the catfish basket and the Mona's Chicken basket. There were generous portions in each meal and unquestionably freshly made. The baskets come with one side option. Mona's has a lot to choose from. My wife had the okra and an extra side of Mac and Cheese with her basket. I had the house made onion rings. I didn't care for the Mona's Chicken. Instead of strips of chicken breast, it was small bite sized chunks. It was just too much breading. After a few bites I ordered a side of cream gravy for dipping. That improved the meal. The catfish had a nice crust, moist inside, but the flavor was a little off. Okra, mac and cheese, average. Hushpuppies excellent. And then there were the Onion Rings. These were excellent. Large fresh, wide rings of sweet onion lightly battered, then fried to perfection. Crispy crunchy on the outside and crisp fresh onion on the inside. Onion rings are mandatory with any meal here. Probably the perfect meal here is the Burger and the Rings. But there's more. Fried pies filled with fruits that represent most of the colors in a rainbow. I couldn't pass them up for tomorrow's breakfast. Peach, Apple, Cherry and Apricot all went home with us. Great with this morning's cup of coffee. I bet they are even better when served hot and fresh in the diner.

This restaurant, just off I-40, should be a real money maker. There's a motel and quick-stop nearby, but for some reason, it has never lived up to it's potential. Maybe some advertising along I-40 would help. That being said, there is NO excuse for the VERY poor service and food. We have kept stopping to eat there because it is about midpoint in our travels to OKC and back. After yesterday's meal, we finally decided that there will have to be a new "spot". We had the All you can eat Sirloin Buffet. WE ordered unsweet ice tea and it was so strong we couldn't drink it. I asked for water but it took the waitress about 30 minutes to bring it...she said she was busy with the only other occupied table. The salad bar was deplorable. The lettuce was wilted, the potato salad had a crust on top, and there was not much selection at all. I don't know why they bothered to ask how we wanted our steaks cooked because mine was Rare, not medium rare and his was VERY well done instead of medium well...enough to hurt his jaws trying to chew it...mine had a big streak of gristle running through the middle and it was nearly impossible to cut with my steak knife. The baked potatoes would have been okay, but apparently, the kitchen had run out of sour cream. We had about one tablespoon to share between us and the waitress said she had scraped that out of the bottom of the container. We finally got through the very expensive meal, but some other wayward travelers had come in so the waitress was preoccupied with them... we waited a good 15 minutes for her to get done with them so we could pay our bill...When I heard a couple of the other group order the buffet, I really wanted to tell them not to bother!
