Our VB team was in town for a tournament and decided to have a team dinner at El Tapatio. We had reservations for 5pm, we were seated immediately in a separate party room and our server started taking drink orders. He did a great job, especially considering how many of us there were. He not only got our orders in without any errors, but he accommodated a change request, and the bills were all correct too. Our food came out rather quickly and everyone enjoyed their food. I will say, the quesadillas were more like large tacos, and the margaritas were lime green and tasted like lime Gatorade (hence the 4 stars vs 5). So if you want a margarita, I recommend getting the beer-rita rather than the traditional margarita. With all that, definitely recommend! read more

Brought my adopted son to Sioux City for a visit with his family. All he talked about was this restaurant and how good the food was... so I decided to give it a try. He was not wrong. It's Saturday afternoon and the place has a good sized crowd, which is always a good sign. If the locals are here on a beautiful sunny day, the food has to be good. Ordered the Tapatio Loco which has steak, chicken, shrimp and bacon over a bed of rice with a cream sauce. My son raved about it and it is VERY delicious. The flavors all go together so well. I can't believe they don't serve this anywhere else. The service is great, friendly staff and very attentive. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be coming back every time I visit Sioux City. read more

One star for the mango margaritas. My daughter, her fiancé and myself stopped in for a late supper. She got beef tacos, the fiancé and myself got chicken enchiladas. Appearance was good, however tasted like canned chicken. Paid be bill and on the way home he was sick and throwing up along the highway and I was belching like no other then also got sick. Puking a couple times. Not sure what happened there if the chicken was old or bad or what. Always heard this place was good. We won't be back :( read more

I always love this place my favorite dish is trio shrimp except I ask for a substitute for the breaded shrimp and they are always happy to serve. Waiters are always good to me. Chips and salsa are homemade and I think all their food is delicious. read more

Tho, had to ask for a straw twice. Waiter gave me the wrong plate. My fiancé got my food, but covered it with super hot sauce before we realized, so we were screwed. The 'steak' was gross. Salsa was gross. Chips needed salt and the queso was really thick. Bathrooms gross. My Mother-in-Law got amazing shrimp, an the rice was good. I'll probably give the place 1 more chance. Got sat down quickly and asked what I wanted to drink. The waiter went and promptly retrieved my drink. I told him that I already knew what I wanted. He nodded at me and left for 10 minutes LoL Not sure what happened there but it made me sad. I come here regularly because it's close to my house. The service varies. The food varies. Always friendly though. Salsa is usually good but sometimes you get the random "hotter than hell" batch. You have been warned LoL Ordered the Mucho Nachos. Usually pretty good. Here they are. Ordered form them recently. The food was mehhhh. The chips were stale. The salsa had no spice. We got enchiladas and they forgot the white sauce on mine. My husband's red sauce tasted like ketchup. The enchiladas were meat rolled in a tortilla with sauce on the top. They were never baked or cooked after assembly. I cannot say I would recommend this place unless you want flavorless Mexican food. read more

The food is nothing special. I've had better Mexican food, and I've had worse. On the other hand, they have the best damn margaritas I've ever tastes. And they do not cheat you out of the booze. Come with a DD because one margarita will get you drunk. They prices are pretty cheap, and the staff and very friendly. read more

Don't waste your money here! My family was surprised at the blandness of this food. Surrounded by older couples (of the white-haired variety) the food here is akin to Taco Johns or Ruth's Cosina, but worse. My dish, the enchiladas verdes, had only what could be described as an "odd" flavor while my son's burrito was a tortilla wrapped around greasy, bland, ground beef and heaped with asadero cheese and gravy. I am very disappointed in the service I received! I ordered food for take out got home and my daughter opened what was supposed to be a large side of guacamole and instead was melted cheese. I tried to call 4 times and it just rang and rang. They must have caller ID because they called me back and I told them they gave me wrong thing by mistake. The man said ok come get the guacamole. I drove back and once inside they wouldn't give me the guacamole until I paid for it even though I already did and they made the mistake. He said had to exchange the cheese which he didn't say on the phone and its very unsanitary to take back food once its been outside the establishment. The man agreed he made the mistake and gave me the wrong thing and Even though I had to drive alk the way back in town I had to pay again. Top it off the guacamole had what looked and felt like a very tiny tree stick or possibly a stem. It was hard like a stick and small like shy of an inch long and very skinny. Wasn't food because I was eating and pulled it out of my mouth it cut my cheek. I will never return. El Monterrey will be my choice next time!! read more
