Free Tapas with any drink purchase. They're not the best tapas but after a long day of walking in Madrid, they do the job.
FUCKKKKK YESSSS! $6EUR 1 Liter Cervezas (Beer) with basically all you can eat FREE TAPAS! what more can you ask for. While the quality is not AMAZING, this place is THE BOMB! I will come back here as much as possible if i visit again. Don't be put off by the dirty floor where chicken bones, napkins etc etc are thrown. Note, they clean this up every night and this is the same way all the other places such as Museo del Jamon do it. You don't come here for the ambiance but you come for the cheap beers, shooting the shit with friends and of course, the FREE TAPAS!!!!!
Probably the best deal you'll find in Madrid! Tapas come for FREE with purchase of drink! Food/Drink: 2 small beers and a plate full of tapas hand chosen by the bartenders. Tapas included ham on bread, fried chicken, patatas bravas and other pinchos. Price: The small beers we got was 2.5 euros each, unclear how much the larger drinks cost. However, the bigger drink you get the more tapas you get! Atmosphere: think local college dive bar with only standing tables! Fast, casual, and cheap. Perfect for a quick stop to start your night or an afternoon snack! Tips: Don't worry about what to order, just order the beer and they will take care of making your plate of tapas!
This place always be poppin'. Filled with tourists, locals, and college students (usually Americans abroad), this place unites people of all color and many languages. And for good reason-- good cheap drinks accompanied with complimentary tapas. Nothing fancy, but homey and hearty food. Since my last positive experience in 2011, I knew that I had to come back here during my most recent trip to Spain (August 2014). This time I was traveling with a buddy, and told her that we should to go to El Tigre. We came here around 11pm on a Saturday night and it was jam packed with people. While it was kind of dirty with a bit of trash strewn about, she did like the overall experience, and of course, I still had a good second time here. We had ordered two vino con tinto (which is popular along with the mojitos), and we were served two big plates with ham on bread, some fried potatoes, and some fried potato croquette balls. My friend and I were pretty starving, so the food probably tasted better than it really was. We finished the food and drinks pretty fast. So, even though the last time I had been here prior to my most recent visit was 3 years ago, El Tigre was just as good as I remembered it. I still like cheap good food, and El Tigre still hits the spot. Nom nom good. Si no tienes mucho dinero, puede ir por aqui y disfruta bien con bebida barata y comida gratis. Vale, venga aqui y pruebalas!
Our AirBnb highly recommended this place. She said she takes all her friends here so we gave it a try. Hmmmm.... this is more like a place to get a beer. The food wasn't what I expected. We got peppers and I can't remember the other item. This is a place where u get a beer and eat the free tapas they give u and keep going. I wouldn't eat a regular meal here.
Oddly enough this was our first stop and our second to the last stop in our first night out on the town. As soon as you walk in you've got a guy behind a bar with a dirty white apron. In front of him there are some tapas in a glass case and behind him, ham legs of prosciutto hanging from the ceiling and beer on tap. My husband ordered us a couple beers and with it the guy proceeds to hand us two plates filled with tapas and potatoes. The place wasn't quite busy yet so we were able to plop ourselves on a makeshift wooden table and chairs. Definitely a dive bar but you could tell this looks like a place where all the young locals would go. Second time around (after several stops in between) we happen to run into another one of these on another street. This time around it seemed the place was packed so we mosey'd on in. Another round of beers and another round of plates. This time the selection was a little bit different - we still received a plate of tapas but also a rice plate. We managed to squeeze ourselves (plates and beers included) on a little piece of bar corner as we stood and tried to stuff ourselves even more. Overall - As for food I'm going to have to say, yes, I've definitely had better. As for the place itself, it's definitely a fun dive spot to hang out and feel like you're one of the locals while having some beer and free food.
Nothing like going to a place and paying 5€ for a beer or 7€ for wine and getting a whole plate of tapas at no additional charge. Food is fresh and very good! I ate here twice during my recent visit to Madrid and would happily return the next time I am in this awesome city! Gets pretty crowded in the downstairs area so get in where you fit in!
This place made all my tapas dreams come true. Drinks are delicious--especially the tinto de verano-- and at 6€ for a large glass, they were pretty cheap too! We ordered three drinks and got three plates of food. I love the surprise element of it, where each plate is different and you never know what will end up in front of you. From patatas bravas to Spanish tortillas to chorizo topped pinxtos, options were endless, tasty, and very very satisfying. The restaurant was packed, but our waiter speedily brought out our drinks and tapas in record time. Only downside is that little seating is available, so we had to stand at these casks the entire time, but I guess that's just part of the full tapas experience!
My tour guide for Sandemann's Madrid called El Tigre the McDonald's of tapas and that's probably the best way to describe it. If you want a cheap drink with a large platter of food, this is the place to go. For five euros my friend was able to get a beer and we got a platter of tapas -- mainly sliced bagette topped with ham or cheese, potatoes, and fried fish balls. It was greasy and tasted just ok, but was good enough to be filling and satisfy desire for beer and tapas. Standing room only!
This place is worth a shot if you're looking for a younger crowd and some cheap tapas! My friend and I went and ordered a mojito and sangria, which were HUGE and came with two plates of tapas. Obviously for being free tapas they weren't the best, but I would say overall this place was worth the money. One plate had some various slices of bread with ham, cheese, tortilla española, or a mushroom on them. The tortilla & mushroom were actually really good. The other plate come with some patatas bravas & surprisingly good croquettes (I've had croquettes at almost every restaurant I've been to in Spain and these were delicious!). I think for 12 euros the two drinks and two plates of food was well worth it; I could barely finish! Also the ambiance here is very lively and full of locals and tourists alike.

Yes...its true! It's one of the few places where you can get free tapas with your order of wine or beer! We walked in for lunch after our guided walking tour. The good thing about this place is that it's sort of hidden from the main streets so you don't get too many tourists unless you're like me and do some research. It looks like an old pub with wooden barrels, stools and decor. The first floor dining area isn't very big but there's also an upstairs area as well where the restrooms are. But it was closed during the time we went. There were four of us, 2 had wine and 2 had beer. They brought out three HUGE plates of tapas, mostly starchy food which is just perfect for those wanting to drink and eat for cheap and get full easily. The total only came out to €13!!! So cheap! I'm not a big starchy eater but since vacationing in Europe for the past two weeks, I've had no choice since potatoes and bread is their biggest meal fillers here. Anyway, the tapas they gave us were croquettes, fries with some type of orange sauce and meat, cheese, tortilla with bread assortment. The portion was enough for all of us to be pretty full. They do have a main menu which you can order off of but we didn't since we had plans for a late afternoon snack elsewhere. The only thing I did not like was that our waiter was hustling us for tips by asking us to tip more if we want bigger tapas portions. But other than that, we had a good time here.
Free tapas if you order alcohol? I'm in! And there's no drink limit either! It's not the best food, but how are you going to bag on free food?! You don't! Anyway, they give you an abundance of subatantial food upon your first alcoholic beverage order; three plates consisting of brava potatoes, eggs with brava potatoes on bread, and bread with pork. They also have more food items you can order, but of course, it isn't free. Great place to start the night especially if you're on a budget. It does get mighty packed during happy hour so finding a spot may be challenging, but it cleared up around 10ish so come early or late if you don't want to deal with the crowd. Although it was a mad house and only one waiter working it, he still provided good service. Kudos to you señor! FYI - this is not the place for you if you're looking for upscale fine dinning.
I'm actually quite sad that this wasn't a place that had made it onto my radar before we landed, but rather, one I stumbled on entirely by accident, while we were trying to kill a small amount of time before the bar we were going to, opened, around the corner. I just saw a signed advertising they sold craft cider - we were, after all, about to go drink several cocktails at a craft cocktail bar, so we just had a small cider. Well, imagine our surprise when that didn't stop them from handing us a bunch of completely mini-sandwiches tapas to go with it. Just too bad we'd already had dinner and weren't particularly hungry, cause they were solid! Nothing fancy, but still, solid. Excellent cider, too, and for cheap, not even factoring in the free tapas. If we happened to ever be back in Madrid, I would *definitely* prioritize actually coming here intentionally, ordering a few more drinks and enjoying more of their tapas as an actual meal, instead of just an unexpected, unneeded snack. read more

So so so freaking fun. You get so much tapas with any drink you order- we came with a group of 8 and had 8+ plates of their tapas. Highly recommend their mojito as it comes in a HUGE cup (you'll be set for your time here). It gets a bit tight since it's not a huge space and the bathroom is tiny downstairs (but as are most bathrooms in Europe). Either way such a great experience, it's a total vibe. Go here!! read more
When my dad told me about this place, I honestly thought it was too good to be true cause what business would be okay with serving you HEAPS of tapas when you purchase a drink? Sounds like a sinking business to me, but that is def far from the truth here! I won't lie; walking in it seems a bit grimy, but once you get your drink order in, it's all Gucci from there. Servers at the bar are quick and friendly enough; just be sure to know what you wanna order beforehand cause there WILL be a line after you. I don't think I've ever not seen this place poppin'. I had ordered the sangria and the sandia mojito, and both were delicious! Sweet but not too sweet and def a great pairing with all the tapas we were given such as patatas bravas, wings, jamon, etc. Favorite tapa was def the patatas as the sauce was extra garlicky, and I am all about that. All I gotta say is if this place is good enough for the locals, it's good enough for me! read more

Stopped here one afternoon for lunch after getting a recommendation and being told that it was a true Spanish tapas style restaurant. True to form, we sat at a table, ordered a few alcoholic beverages, and waited for the tapas to arrive. Out drinks arrived within a few minutes, along with a tapas plate consisting of bread topped with ham, wings, patatas, mushrooms, bacon and fried cheese. It was amazing that the more drank, the more of these dishes they brought out. In terms of the food, it was very very average... And in some cases, not very good. Everything's was room temperature and tasted as if it had been sitting out for quite some time. This was pretty disappointing considering the service and drinks were really good. The vibe of the place was a lot of fun. The waiters are young, outgoing and really do a great job of getting foreigners like myself to feel comfortable and enjoy the experience. Upon finishing the meal and walking out, the waiter stopped us, poured us a shot a rum and did one with us. Had it not been for the food, this experience would have been perfect. read more

I hart El Tigre!! I followed other Yelpers advice and checked out El Tigre while I was in Madrid. Its a little difficult to find, but well worth it. It was very busy, depending on what time you get there, but the staff was very fast and friendly. You get a lot of free tapas when you are ordering drinks. They handed my husband and I two huge plates of tapas when we ordered drinks, and kept offering more and more food each time we ordered drinks. You didn't get to select what you tapas you get, but they put a mixture of what they had on plates for you. Most of the food was patatas fritas, pan con jamón y queso, and like a potato cake; all with some sort of hot sauce on them. Drinks weren't very expensive 2.5 EUR for a small beer 3 EUR for a large beer and 6 EUR for a ginormous mojito. We didn't try the sangria but just about everything else. We actually went there two times while in Madrid. I think its a definite must do on a trip to Madrid. read more

Yup, this place is amazing. For the uninitiated, you show up and order a couple of beers, and in return you get a plate of tapas that could feed a small army. Free. What's the catch? There isn't one, for once. The beers are cheap - 2.5 euros - and there's tons of other options (mojitos, etc) if beer's not your thing. You'd think the tapas would be awful, but they're honestly DELICIOUS. On my last visit I had mushrooms topped with bacon, and both ham and cheese each topped with some delicious unknown topping, all on baguette slices (two each), all on top of a giant plate of paella. Like I said, amazing. Also, most reviews mention going late at night, but El Tigre opens at 10:30am most weekdays so go for lunch! It's plenty packed, but not crazy. read more
My friends who had studied abroad in Spain before me recommended this place for tapas for our first night in Madrid (Summer 2012). I did not spend any more than €15 on a few drinks and tapas and I left with a stuffed stomach even after I split tapas with five other people! Pros: - Authentic Spanish dive bar in the heart of Madrid. - Young crowd. - Fast service. - Cheap but authentic (and delicious) tapas and sangria / great bang for your buck, or I should say, euro. - Lots of study abroad students gather here (if you're looking for fellow Americans to socialize with). Cons: - Staff was frazzled the whole time/completely hectic. - Lots of study abroad students gather here (if you're looking to meet locals/Spaniards who actually live and go out in Madrid). Overall a great place for my study abroad group to check out. We had a lot of fun! read more

If I could rate this place with no stars I would. There are good sawdust joints and then there's this one. In the US, I think it would be shut down for hygiene and likely health code violations. The fried calamari had the consistency of tire rubber - cooked beyond reason. read more

This place is an experience! It's fun and loud and rowdy! The drinks are huge and strong and the best part is that you get a free plate of tapas with each drink. You have no say in what the food is, a plate of delicious food will just get thrown at you and it's amazing! Great place to start the night! read more
Nice Sangria for 6 Euros - all you can eat tapas Based on the reviews from Yelp, I added this on my list. It was easy to find, near the main street of Madrid. We got there and it was packed, so we found a spot in the back room to stand. We ordered 2 large Sangrias, at 6 Euros each The guy brought some tapas, and we asked for paella. Instead he brought arroz on pollo, but it was still pretty good. We also got other stuff. The jamon was a bit thick and hard to eat The croquetas were crispy outside, creamy inside, and so garlicky More kids came in, literally 18 and 19 year olds, and it got a little rowdy, so we went to the bar We got more tapas, all you can eat The Sangria was pretty good compared to the other restaurants where we went. Once was good enough, not sure if I'd go back. read more
Cheap drinks, and free tapas?! I'm in! So you first walk in, get a seat and order your drink right away. Then a waiter brings you plates of tapas, depending on the number of people you're with or how many drinks you got, and you can't pick the tapas. But some of the tapas were better than others, and since it comes with your drink you can't really complain! I would definitely come here if you are ever in the area, or even after a shopping trip with friends. The mojito was pretty decent and their cups of wine were generous! Highly recommend! read more

LOVED THIS PLACE! It was our first time in Madrid and we looked up a place with free tapas and El Tigre was what we settled for. A friend and I bought one drink each and got three (free) full plates of delicious Spanish tapas. The sangria was rich and fruity and the tapas were the best I had my whole trip. Stuffed mushrooms, tortillas, smoked ham and cheesy croquettes are a few of the various tapas they serve. We went on a Saturday and it was packed. They have seats in the back and tables in the front where you can stand. The staff was super friendly and spoke English. Free WiFi! read more

HUGE sangria and HUGE mojitos along with delicious tapas for cheap? Heck yes I was a regular at El Tigre when I studied abroad! Such a fun environment and a great deal. You definitely have to check the place out! read more
El Tigre is hyped up for its large cervezas and giant plates of mediocre tapas. It is very affordable and a fun bar experience. The place is usually packed on weekend nights and you can set your drinks and tapas on giant barrels. I recommend coming to El Tigre at the beginning of your night out in Madrid. read more
