If you're looking for delicious, authentic Latin food, El Típico on Canal Street in Nashua is definitely worth trying! This is a small restaurant with a huge variety of choices. It's not a self-serve buffet but you simply tell them what you'd like, and they prepare your plate. My go-to is the rice and beans with pulled pork, marinated chicken, and sweet plantains, and everything is always perfectly seasoned and tastes fresh. They also offer seafood, vegetables, empanadas, roasted chicken, desserts, and plenty of other options. The portions are very generous, especially for the price, making this a great affordable meal. The staff is always friendly and the service is fast. The only downside is that parking can be limited. However, there is additional parking available in the Margaritas restaurant adjoining parking lot, which makes it easier. I ordered 2 lbs of assorted meats and the yellow rice. All I can say I don't have a clue why my Dominican friends sent me to El Tipico. Maybe they really hate me? I have no problem with the fact that the floors were filthy, the TV was blasting, the tables were dirty, the garbage was overflowing, and the service was cold. It was the fact that the food was terrible. The keyword is "dry". So much so that it was all really inedible. Yes, the food was dirt cheap. But you get what you pay for. Not the best Chicaron I've had. I'm a big fan of palacio de los Jugos in Miami and since I was in this fun ethnic neighborhood thought I'd get some yummy Latin cuisine. It was morning so I went for the best breakfast there is, chicaron. Basically big chunks of deep fried bacon w the skin on and crunchy, it's amazing when done right. Here, it was strangely lacking flavor and seemed extra dry. It was also expensive? They speak no English and prices are hard to come by so maybe they saw this white boy and went crazy but a pound of pork was 11$. I don't think I'd go back. read more

It surprisingly lacked flavor, so it was hard to eat without adding flavor ~hot pepper hot sauce. Pros-You can feed a family of four some authentic dominican food for $19 easily, with plenty of leftover rice. I recommend the rice with gandules, roast chicken and sweet plantains. Their pork dishes and tostones are great too. Cons-It's in the ghetto, parking is limited, and not all of the staff speak English so grab a menu by the register before getting in line so you can point out what you'd like if you're afraid of butchering the language. So much to choose from. Check out their buffet for what they have that day. They're famous for their rotisserie chicken but all their meats are terrific and cooked in different styles. Last time I was there I had their roast pork, arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas), okra in sauce, and eggplant in sauce. Sooooo good and so inexpensive. With a bottled water, my meal came to around $10. The place isn't fancy but it's clean and always packed. If you don't speak Spanish you might have a hard time ordering but if you don't mind a lot of pointing and other forms of non-verbal communication, you will be highly rewarded. Food is amazing, however if they don't think you speak spanish they sit behind the counter and talk shit about you. Will help other customers before you because you have light skin. Not all the staff but most. It's really unfortunate because i do enjoy their food. There's plenty of other restaurants in Lawrence with equal or better food that don't disrespect you and make you wait because they want to be racist. When I lived in Lawrence in the 1980s and 1990s, I never had Spanish food until my friend's grandma had me stay for dinner one time in 1995. It was really good, and she's from Puerto Rico, and it tasted great. Spanish Food I tried after that point was on the corner or Jackson and Haverhill St. around that time, but around 1996, I tried this place because my parents and I passed it everyday and we lived so close to it. We also lived close to the Jackson Street location, too, but this place seemed bigger. I recall getting a few things here, up until 2000, and then a few times up until 2003. I recall several items and they were all very tasty but must have been very fattening. I recall $20 bought a LOT of food. I'd get an order of the steak that was salted. They'd have steak tips already and put them into a styrofoam box. Then that would be one order. Then I'd get another order of the fried pork....it was basically pork rinds and attached to pork/pork fat and it was very fattening but so sweet. Then I'd get the ribs. They had beef ribs I think in a BBQ type of sauce glaze and those were also good. I'd get a few Empanadas...those spanish style wraps with ground beef and spices in them, and a few Spanish Beef stuffed potato balls, I think they were. Also very good. Meat stuffed potato balls. Oh, yeah, and the chicken...it was herb type of Chicken, I think...very good, but not as good as all the other foods I mentioned, but still was very tasty. They'd give a lot of cut pieces of lime, too for every box they made up. This place is definitely a place to go for Spanish food! Very good, but it's also very fattening! Since I gave up red meats and pork I don't go anymore, but it sure is good food if you are in the mood for Spanish food! read more

When I lived in Lawrence I used to go here to eat fried foods. And yes I speak Spanish but I still never talked in front of them and just pointed to what I wanted. The food is fresh and clean, the only problem is is that there's hardly any place to sit in there and good luck in finding a space. I like the Yuca stuffed with meat. It is awesome I also got the fried pork, empanadas, and other stuff that I I like. Some people on their reviews of this place that they don't speak Spanish, but there's always guys in the twenties there that speak English. When they see an American person go in there they are very helpful and very nice cuz I want you to come back grab a lot of napkins. You'll enjoy this place for a fast lunch read more

Nothing will stop me from trying new foods even if it's at a busy intersection with barely any parking. My coworkers often order from this place but one day I decided to actually come here and let me tell you about our adventure. We walk in and the place was empty. We proceeded to order which was interesting to say the least considering my friend and I were two Asian girls who got by ordering mofungo and communicating to the man behind the counter using the broken Spanish we learned in high school. Be forewarned - they don't speak a lick of English but you can get by with basic conversational Spanish or have someone else in the restaurant order for you. The food came out quick and was actually pretty good. Mine didn't come with meat so essentially my mofungo was dry plantain and I STILL enjoyed it. I felt pretty full though so I can only imagine the food coma you'd be in if you ordered it with meat. The price was right and I definitely got the authentic feel. read more
