Was excited to go back after not having been to a El Toro since before Covid. Being busy does not excuse soggy nachos (like where's the loaded nachos, was meat, cheese, and soggy water chips), soggy watery tacos. Was very disappointed. They cut back on cheese and substituted with lettuce. Bottom of nacho and taco plates were covered in water. Waiter kept forgetting things. And my drink. I didn't even finish it. I wanted a margarita and not get drunk after a few sips. Way too much booze! Made me sick! Only reason I gave 2 stars was for the yummy fried ice cream which they added yummy cherries to. Also when I asked for a box and my check the waiter layed the box on the table opened up then his dirty finger printed check book slapped right on top. Um no not putting my food in that. To be fair, let me admit that we did not eat here. We didn't eat anything, drink anything or even talk to anyone that works here. We went in to El Toro on a fairly slow Thursday night. We went in to the bar area and sat at a couple of stools facing the bartender, who promptly left. He reappeared several times over the next few minutes, haphazardly looking for something. He then just stopped and started talking to some people. I looked at the guy next to us who laughed and said, "the service ain't exactly... service". We thought we'd have better luck in the dining room. A table overheard us talking about how bad the bar was and as we waited for a hostess, they told us to "just leave. What a filthy restaurant. The place was almost empty, and it still took over 30 minutes to get served. My chicken fajitas were good, my wife's burritos were way salty, and they delivered beef when she didn't ask for it. The waiter could barely speak English, so maybe that's the problem. The Yelp rating was almost 5 stars here and a massive banner inside says it was voted best Mexican in Dayton, OH so I expected much more. I am no expert on Mexican fare but our food was just OK, I doubt it could have been 'the best' in the city. However this place did have some positives going for it: it's very close to the I75 so it's a convenient food stop for a hot meal if you're on a long road trip, cheap, friendly service, lots of menu options and clean bathrooms. read more

Let me start off by saying I'm from California and this was definitely NOT like food from home. I ordered chicken and beef tacos, meat didn't have much seasoning and the shells were like hard store bought shells you buy at a grocery store. The chips and salsa weren't great either. Salsa tasted like it came out of a jar and the chips were hard and thick as hell. Rice and beans were the only thing mediocre. Lastly our waitress was not attentive, she hardly came to our table, instead she kept engaging with her coworkers and a party of people eating, not sure if she was tending to them but it looked more like she knew them so she kept chit chatting. We shouldn't have to keep asking for more items such as water, napkins, another drink etc. Seemed like a lot of the employees were just engaging in alot of talk amongst each other. On a strip with multiple places to choose from I'm glad I chose El Toro. The people there were super nice and gave fast friendly service. I had polio Loco which was grilled chicken covered in chopped chorizo sausage covered in white cheddar sauce. served with rice, lettuce, tomato, flour tortillas and guacamole "The white cheddar sauce is like crack especially when you dip your chips in it" The food was well seasoned and not bland or overly salted it was just right. Food was good, service was decent, great dinner specials. I gave it 3 stars because I sat at the bar, and witnessed a lot of patrons struggling/waiting a long time to get a drink. I realize that it was a busy dinner shift, but they had at least 7 people rotating behind the bar. Although my food/drink was served quick, it did take a while to flag someone down to get my bill. The gentleman that served me didn't write my order down, so he asked me what I had after the meal. Once the server took my bill (and VISA card), he were gone for a long time. It was so long that I began to question what they were doing with my VISA card (at least 20 minutes). I'm paranoid about fraud, so I cancelled my card when I got back to my hotel. I have no complaints about the food, it was delicious, but service could use some attention. If I visit this area in the future, and feel like Mexican food, I'll bring cash. read more

Went to el toro expecting at most average taco but what they brought out is much much much worse. The chicken was literally flavorless boiled chicken. It was so awful I couldn't finish from my second bite. So I decided to move in to the beef tacos and big shocker the taco shells were so cheap when I took a bite out of the taco it fell apart Completely. First, the menu cards given were dirty. All menu card had either piece of tortilla chips or salsa stuck to it and was all sticky. Second, we ordered our food with very specific instructions not to include any meat, seafood, beef or egg in the food. We told food should be vegetarian. The server confirmed to this. When we got the food, it had egg in it. I was confused and had another bite and it tasted something different and the server told it is an egg. We were shocked and asked the server and confirmed that it is egg since this dish cannot be prepared with egg and he told so casually that just remove the egg and eat the food. I explained to him that we are vegetarians, we have never eaten any meat/egg because of some religious beliefs. The server was ignorant and we had to call the manager. We were so pissed off and told clearly that we cannot eat the food here since now we are not sure whether other food has egg or not. We clearly told Manager that we cannot eat the food and we will not pay the bill. We could have paid the bill for the item which did not contain any egg but Manager was extremely rude, he threatened us that he will call Police and asked us that get out of the restaurant and never come back. I took the family tonight as I've done on numerous occasions. Tonight, we were seated as usual and our drinks were delivered (2 sodas, and an unsweet tea). Fifteen minutes later, still waiting to place our dinner order, we decided we wouldn't be served so we left. I stopped at the cash register to pay for our drinks and was charged $9.50 for 2 sodas and the unsweet tea. No apologies, no nothing except 4bits change from my $10.00. The service was swift though as I was constantly asked if I needed anything. I'm going to start with the positive; sat at the bar and the service was great. The restaurant is big and decor is nice. Now for the rest...the food. Fish tacos were just okay. I can't even put my finger on what was wrong. Just okay. Chips and salsa tasted great! On occasion I would get a hint of a smell of sewage, could be why things didn't taste right. I made the mistake of ordering the taco salad. $11 for a small shell, very little cheese, a small piece of tomato, a pile of lettuce, and shredded beef. The beef had evidently been held in some sort of liquid and the whole bottom of my shell was full of the liquid. Taco Bell makes a much larger, more appetizing taco salad for half the price. Put the El Toro taco salad and the Taco Bell taco salad side by side and Taco Bell would win on presentation, quality and taste. I do not plan on ever going back again. Absolutely the worst "mexican" food I have ever had. My husband ordered (for pick up) the Baja fish taco fish platter (3 tacos), one chili relleno, chicken nachos, and the combo plate with chicken enchiladas & a chicken burrito for me, him, and a friend. When he got home, I commented that it seemed like they gave him a ton of food but he said the woman who bagged it for him said he checked and it was 'all there'. So, what we got was: * two things of rice with a bunch of steamed vegetables * two orders of the Baja fish tacos - the most disgusting fish I have EVER tasted. It tasted like dirt and I couldn't even finish one. The toppings on the tacos were bland and gross * 3 chicken "enchiladas" - basically 3 tortillas with a tiny portion of chicken rolled into each one. My husband said they weren't very good and the white sauce on it was really gross and he only ate one and a couple bites of rice * chicken nachos with fajita style veggies on it - this was the only semi-edible food we received. It would have tasted kind of good if all the chips weren't completely soggy. They were completely covered in a liquid cheese sauce which tasted like it came out of a can. What we did not receive: * chicken burrito * chili relleno * good food I cannot understand how they messed up our order so badly and served such disgusting food. I tried to pick a good non-chain restaurant nearby and found El Toro. I had a surprisingly delicious Pescado con Camarones. Just great flavor and on a hot plate that kept the meal hot until I was done. Nice touch! The staff at the bar was bored but functional, so no problems there. read more

ME This particular restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. First, we had reservations which were made in person, then they confirmed the reservation over the phone the day prior to our visit. However, the day of our event, when we got there, they didnt have a reservation for us. Mind u, the reason we were so diligent about the reservation was because we had potentially 20 in our party. In their defense, they were able to put tables together and accomodate us in time for our crowd to arrive. Secondly, though our waiter was pleasant, the service was lacking. We had Asked for chips n salsa, we received plenty of chips, but no salsa. Sadly, the people who had made the reservations didnt receive their dinner--there was another person who ordeed the same dish and the waiter only ordered 1 meal. Third and very important to me, the restrooms were atrocious!!! There was paper all over the place, the trash cans were overflowing. The cleaning system was broken off the wall. One of the men in our group also complained that the mens room was equally as dirty. As there is a location closer to our home that is much better all arond, we will probably just stick with that location. read more

Flew in from Fresno Ca. To visit Air Museum Sorry to say very bad food. We have El Toro in Fresno and 100% different. To begin the Chip and Salsa tasteless. Chips stale. I had Chili Relleno, Beef Enchiladas, Rice and Beans. The shredded beef tastes like it came from a can. The only good thing I liked was the Cold Beer. Tried this restaurant based on the reviews....salsa was fresh and very good. Service was superb, our server refilled our drinks promptly. I had the vegetarian quesadilla, which was very good. My husband had a chicken burrito that he said was very good. The downfall was the chile rellenos...the pepper was still crunchy and tasted as if it were dipped in plain flour....very little flavor. Will try this place again, hopefully next time the chile rellenos will be better. ( hope the restaurant reads these reviews) read more

The restaurant is located on a road with many food choices. Upon reading other Yelp reviews we decided to try. Service was very good combined with the cocktails. My wife had the Cadillac Margarita and I had the El Toro. Salsa arrived as soon as we sat down and was very good. We tried an order of Guac and it was also fresh with just the right amount of spice. My wife had fajitas which were served very hot as they should be. I had the burrito deluxe which I would order again. Great spot to hit when in Dayton. read more

The restaurant is very well set up, and our waiter was quick to get us drinks - Margaritas were very good and strong.
