We've been to a few El Toro locations, probably three besides this one, and I have to say this one is the best we've gone to. The staff is excellent, welcoming and attentive. We had a large group or 8, and then added some meals to-go, and they had no issue with it at all. We are calling this a happy accident, since I had intended to call the other N Fairfield location to get on the waitlist because of the size of our party. Well, I didn't realize this one existed and called here instead from the number I found on Google. This location ended up being better for our group since it isn't as loud or as crowded. We didn't feel rushed at all and were able to enjoy some quality time with our friends. I ordered the seafood chimichanga, which was really good. The shrimp and scallops were well seasoned and perfectly cooked. I think when I go back I'll order the camarones con scallops since I forgot I'm not a huge fan of the fried tortilla on the chimichanga. My husband ordered one of the combo meals, it came with a pork tamale, it is the first restaurant tamale in the Dayton are that wasn't dry and gross! He did not let me taste his chile relleno, so he is now on my poo-poo list since it is one of my favorite Mexican foods. I ordered an El Toro cocktail, which I really enjoyed. Everyone at the table was very happy with their food. Oh we also ordered queso, and guacamole to share. The queso was the perfect melty, cheesy goodness we all desire. El Torro's Margarita tower. $25 for the tower during the Friday happy hour. We got a tower of all flavors, so there was mango, blue raspberry, strawberry, and lemon. Will say, that tower was extremely sweet, could barely taste any alcohol. I think I felt icky from how much sugar was in it. The nachos with beef were nasty. We thought it would be classic nachos with beef added on it, no. It was tortilla chips with really cheap and poorly cooked beef and so much cheese all the chips were soggy by the time the chips touched the table. The complimentary chips and salsa was good tho. I don't think I'd go back again. Left the place feeling sick honestly from how bad the food and drinks were. The actual restaurant is very cute and decorated nicely. Food is forgettable. We've been coming here for 20 years. Since opening the Fairfield Commons restaurant a few miles up the road, this location has deteriorated. I enjoy coming to this restaurant every time! There is hardly ever a wait. The margaritas (frozen strawberry) are always on point! When we come here for dinner, I typically order pollo deluxe! It is hard to resist. I also love their enchiladas and my kids love their cheese quesadillas! My favorite absolute time to come here is on Tuesdays for their $1.50 tacos!!! A $4 lunch (two tacos, chips and salsa and a drink) is amazing!!! I have always had a great experience dining at this location. My only recommendation would be to have staff go scent free! Last time we went during cinco de Mayo, everything was amazing. The food, drinks, atmosphere and even the manager who came up to ask us how everything was. This visit in the other hand was total opposite. The waiter took our order so quick he didn't even get my daughters order. The Margarita flight was pretty sad looking. It was missing all the perks about it. Like the peach rings, umbrellas, toppings etc. I asked the waiter why it's missing half the product but he didn't understand me so he got the manager. Unfortunately she was not pleasant and had an attitude about it stating they ran out of the toppings, yet the table next to us ordered the same margarita flight after us and got everything. All right so I've experienced my fair share of Mexican restaurants all over the country! So coming back from my doctor's appointment for a disabled military vet that I caretake, who loves Mexican food we decided to stop at El Toro right outside of our neighborhood on Fairfield road, On the way home since we didn't take time out for breakfast or even lunch for that matter. I ordered the shrimp and scallop enchilada with white sauce on it and the sides, he ordered the ground beef enchilada in red sauce. I also ordered a raspberry margarita which was delicious!! And quite honestly that's probably the only thing that was really super delicious, that we ordered. When my plate came it looked beautiful couldn't wait to dig into it there wasn't much seafood in it at all The shrimp looked okay, The scallops were so damn small it was ridiculous They were smaller than a marble!!! If I had known that ahead of time I would not have ordered it! There was more dough than food within it!? Richard enchilada and red sauce with sides he enjoyed over half of it. And then said he better stop before he over does it, lol. The in reality because of stomach started bothering him. So as soon as I got the bill paid and we were out the door, he started claiming that he was feeling really really sick and he was going to vomit! As we are getting into our vehicle I grabbed the first bag I could find dumped out of it so that he could use it to vomit in instead of all over the car or their parking lot for that matter. I wasn't thinking at the time of the cause of it. But it has been determined that it was food poisoning. Yeah let me go back a few steps and mention that when I take a bite of his enchilada after he was done eating it, The ground beef tasted like it had a seasoning in it like cinnamon or something. Now starting to wonder whether it was bad meat. Because I have never tasted any Mexican dinner from all the places I've been to, that ever tasted like that..... an I've tasted some crazy foods in the past! I even made the remark to Richard It seems like it has cinnamon that's a horrible idea Why would they do that But apparently it was much worse than just cinnamon if there was even cinnamon in it. That was a foul taste! That we put all the pieces together while he profusely vomited throughout the rest of the evening and the night, hot and cold sweats going through four sets of sweats, claiming to refreezing his ass off while sweating profusely. The morning after: He's still in really bad shape feels extremely weak, like this poor man doesn't have enough problems already with his disabilities!!! I haven't contacted them yet, But I feel like we're owed back but we paid!!! over $60 for bad food! Now please understand I've been on yelp for a long time and I haven't posted as much as I usually do because I'm more stay at home now after the stay at home order is lifted years ago now working out of my home now instead of traveling all over. I'm a traveling and at home home health care specialist. And this is absolutely food poisoning! Please pay attention to what you're eating if it doesn't taste quite right don't continue eating it send it back! I've never in my life waited an hour and a half for mediocre Mexican food. The hostesses were rude, and I don't know what happened to our waitress. The bartender was the only person who seemed to be working. The food was typical- under seasoned at best. We got a "speedy Gonzales" and a taco salad. There is no reason why this took over an hour. This was never a great Mexican restaurant, but the food was always decent. We normally get some beef or steak dish. The last two times the food was pretty awful. I'm assuming it was to save money, but it appears that they have switched to a cheaper cut of beef for their beef dishes. The beef now is like eating a dried out dishrag. Good place for margaritas that are very strong. It's hard to get a table during dinner hours but I would guess that's because the food is so good. This place is a wonderful Mexican restaurant and we highly recommend it. My wife and I got the Molcajete and Monster Burrito and both were delicious. Guacamole is fresh and flavorful, and sauces are tangy and zesty. Service was prompt and frequent, and staff was kind and respectful. Prices more than reasonable. Environment is comfortable and at a reasonably low volume, with good music and seasonal decorations. They also do military discount! We will 100% be back!!! read more

The building is the nicest part of this restaurant! The front desk staff was rude when we walked in, we waited 15 minutes for a server to approach our table AFTER I called it to someone's attention! This is by far the best Mexican food I've ever had. The lack of two stars is due to the server being rude in a sarcastic tone when she asked for my ID for alcohol which I went to grab in my purse right away and that they don't have mojitos or top shelf whiskey or scotch ( that's what our server told us) they only have alcohol listed on the menu which is super limited. My husband and I enjoy a few drinks when we go out for dinner/lunch because it's our rare moment that we get to ourselves and we really love food. I would just say go for the food, drink before hand because they probably don't have what you want to drink if you like top shelf alcohol. The food is great. The server did warm up to us by the end of our meal. But both my husband and I felt that she was being rude for no reason. Update: after 3 days in a row and the consistent food I feel they deserve an extra star because they have always gotten our order right and they double check to make sure they heard our order right. And they pack extra chips and salsa to go when you order to go. So we went from 3 to 4. I feel like if I dine here again and the staff isn't rude this time then we'll be at 5 stars. The restaurant was very busy when we walked in but fortunately there was no wait and we were seated right away. The interior is on the older side but to my knowledge- the restaurant is moving into the former Abuelo building down the street and therefore they might not want to put money into upgrading. Understandable. Our waitress was very nice and super accommodating. We placed our order. My hubby chose a fajita, I, chicken tacos. It took a while for the food too arrive. Then when the waiter finally came, he sat a plate down in front of my hubby and left. We were kind of: Huh? Where is the rest? It took about 10 minutes before the waiter finally came back with my hubby's side dishes and finally my tacos. The food itself wasn't bad. The portions are huge. Too huge for my taste. A lot of people left with to go boxes or left leftovers on the plate to be cleaned up. A lot of waste. Update: Douglas with El Toro reached out to me. He said that he will be contacting the restaurant manager at the Fairfield location to discuss the "serving issue". This is one establishment that took several visits before I felt comfortable committing to a review! I give them a solid three stars, as they are affordable and enjoyable, but their service is inconsistent along with their portion sizes. For that reason alone, this is a place best left for those nights where the reliable usual places are a little too familiar, where the uncertainty is welcome and perhaps a bit refreshing if for any other reason than to keep life interesting! Having lived in the South, all over really, I feel qualified to say I know what Authentic Mexican food is. You know, the kind I enjoyed with my Hispanic neighbors in Vegas decades ago, made in HUGE pots half as tall as I am, by little women with a powerful might and prowess in the kitchen, cooking enough food for an army with ginormous spoons, while the most pleasing lilting scents at the time I had ever smelled in my life wafted through the heavy, richly imbued air. Real Mexican cooking is something else! The little tamale man who would come door-to-door pedaling his tamales in a cart on wheels. No English, but the language of yum! Where you ask what kind of meat it is and they point to their head! Brain! Gah! That kind of Mexican food has left big shoes to fill in my mind forever. It has a magic all it's own, and a bit of horror. Snicker. All things considered, El Toro does decent "American Mexican" food. The fajitas come out sizzling, the sides are generous, and despite their not making their own tortillas, a meal at El Toro, as long as you stick to the menu items, is something that will scratch the itch for something out of the ordinary. Me, I have to order odd things due to my lifestyle (like a huge plate of water-only steamed veggies) and they never seem to get it right. Oh well! That oddity is my cross to bear, it's just always nice when an establishment listens to what I need and accommodates. In this case, they never give me enough food no matter how much I plead for a "huge platter" hehe. Most people don't go here for health food though, so we'll move past that part of my review, shall we? Their environment is nice enough, a mixture of painted murals, painted faux-marble effects here and there, with Mexican hats and the typical touches and divey effects here and there I've come to expect of Mexican joints in the US. It's, dare I say, almost cozy. Almost. The front staff is always welcoming! I wish I could say the same for the servers. Thus, my only real critique. Their servers seem unhappy, and aren't very friendly. We love to make friends where we frequent! This isn't the place to do it, haha. But if you're looking for a surprisingly great cup of coffee and some sopaipillas, this is your place! I think you'll enjoy it. Just don't come expecting any fireworks! read more

If I could leave no stars I would. Horrible service! A child vomitted on the foyer floor before I walked in the building. No one cleaned it up. So my Mother and I accidently walked through it before being told by the host. They had about 6 workers there with only one person running food waiting tables and seating people. He even asked a girl sitting at the bar doing nothing but playing on her phone to get the vomit. She didn't. He then sat us in the back of the restaurant, the left side had all been moved to clean under the booths, leaving our area smelling of nothing but strong bleach, including the mop bucket of bleach still sitting there. We watched multiple older ladies walk thru it before I took the bleach mop bucket that was left in the back of the restaurant and mopped up the vomit myself. MY actual waiter walked passed me while I mopped the floor and the woman at the bar watched and the man doing all the work said not one word. I returned the bleach bucket to the kitchen where a manager was and she thanked me for letting her know about the vomit. She had just arrived for her shift. After the 20 minutes of smelling bleach mopping vomit and no one even came to my table to get a drink order I decided it was time to leave. 5 employees then stood in the foyer with the manager and I informed her of the lack of attention and care for the matter. Three separate tables tracked vomit throughout the restaurant because it had been on the floor for at least the 10-15 minutes of my stay. The other employees then tried to act like they were rushing to get it. I directly pointed out what each person was doing the last 20 minutes and asked for the general managers number. I spoke with Enrique, he apologized told me he would have to look through the camera footage and get back to me. My take away from this experience is I see why two El Toros are located within a mile of each other. While the newer location is big and fancy, that means nothing if there is vomit on the ground, bleach smell in the air (not even from cleaning the vomit!), and staff who literally do not care. read more

On January 15, 2023, my daughter and I visited the El Toro location on Fairfield Rd. in Beavercreek. OH. We were seated and we received chips and salsa. Several waiters and waitress walked by time and time again. It took several minutes before our drink order was placed. Then again, the staff continued to walk back and forth, noone came to place our food order. We are African American, and a Caucasian couple came and sat in front of us and they were getting their food order placed before us. We sat and waited and waited. My daughter sat with a look of confusion, because I told her we were about to go. She didn't understand why. We got up and left while the waiter was taking the couples order. I went to the front and asked for a manager. I'm explaining what occurred to management and they gave me the dumbest looks. There was a female that was trying to say the waiter may have been busy...don't give me that when we were seated before that couple, plus we weren't easy to overlook. Then she tried to say a language barrier. Again...quit with the excuses. They provided me with a number when I asked for corporates number. He stated they were closed yesterday and today being a holiday, I will call tomorrow. It was a local number, so I'm curious if it's even valid. The crazy thing is, I have never experienced this type of situation and I have visited other El Toro locations. I will never visit this location ever again and I suggest other people do the same The staff and service was not satisfactory. Atmosphere: This place was much better... WAY better prior to the bright BRIGHT lights in the bar area. So annoying. Dimmer much?!? Food: It's a Hit or miss.... definitely inconsistent. Service: Ordered Margarita no salt, waiter made it with salt. The most expensive Margarita- 20oz Cadillac one should have you feeling pretty good, but I didn't feel it much. Yet other times depending on who makes it.... it's sometimes better. Food took 40mins which is odd, because Mexican restaurants are usually super fast. A Friday eve at 5 p.m. Got in quickly. Clean tables and bathroom. Cool decor- fountains, colorful hanging lights, Mexican music.. TV screens around the bar for sports fans. Fast, friendly, efficient service. Ordered the big burrito and the special- chicken fajitas, and they were both delicious! They make a very good frozen margarita as well.
