From the delightful and freshly prepared Pastelitos to the pupusas, this place has it going on! The flavors are so fuera de serie! The service is so friendly and fast as well. This small place is known for the Pupusas they serve, and the fact that they only accept cash! The restaurant is located in a very shabby, aged strip center well off of N. Point, providing no street visibility, and a rough parking lot! The inside mirrors the outside, worn but clean and with a decent amount of seating - booths and tables, functional if not comfortable! Bibical verses adorn the wall, obviously no fear here of standing up for what you believe in an increasingly secular society - courage should always be acknowledged, IMHO! I ordered the aforementioned Pupusas - 4 Cheese and Pork for $11.50 with Crudito included! These were good, not great, Pupusa - under-seasoned for my tastes (added a Rick Bayless (you must know who he is) measure of salt) and it was were I needed it to be - but still weak! Unfortunately the Crudito was very weak, barely fermented - a great side when done right, not the case here! This was not bad food, but there is better available, even as close as Los Primos, only several miles away! Do not look at the outside and walk away. They are a Christian establishment if that helps some. But the resturant is clean and the food is so good. Let me start by saying, I am not an expert on Salvadoran food. So, were these pupusas just like abuela used to make? I don't know. This was my first time ever having a pupusa. What I can say is that I have been to Guatemala numerous times, so I am pretty familiar with Central American food. And, the food at El Triunfo was as good as I've ever had. My daughter and I both got a sampler plate which had a tamal, a pupusa. plantains with some kind of heavenly cream and a type of cabbage slaw. It was all so good. Like I said, these were my first pupusas, so I can't compare them to anything, but I can't imagine how they could be better than they were. So simple and delicious. And the red sauce served with them was the perfect complement. The plantains were typical, but the cream served with them was so, so good. It tasted like crema, but with something added to take it to a new level of yummy. The slaw had what tasted like slices of pickles in it for extra crunch and flavor. Different, but really good. However, the absolute, hands-down best part of the meal was the tamale. Absolutely the best tamale I have ever eaten. It was wrapped in a banana leaf which gave it a really nice, earthy flavor. But the texture of the tamale is what set it apart for me. The masa was creamy and soft, almost like grits. And, in with the cornmeal and pork filling were a couple of slices of yucca. Unique and delicious! The service was efficient and friendly and the prices were very fair as well. I will definitely be back. read more

We've tried many Salvadoran restaurants across many states. This is a small and VERY clean place with AMAZING PUPUSAS. You barely feel the dough. They're filled with cheese and chicharrón or chicken. I came across this place when I was apt hunting in the area. The inside looked just like my dads Salvadoran restaurant in Englewood, NJ with the authentic decorations from El Salvador and homely feel. A pupusa is a tortilla that is stuffed with cheese, pork, beans or chicken. It is served wth pickled cabbage and onions and tomato salsa. Their pupusas are one of the best that I've had outside of my dads restaurant or El Salvador. I love their cheese and pork pupusas called revultas. Their cheese and bean one is soo good too. Another favorite is an order of their yuca Frita with chicharron. Yuca tastes similar to a potato and chicharron is simply pork shoulder or butt that is prepared with spices and garlic instead of the old NC way of treating a pork shoulder. Their green sauce is crazy spicy and I love it! Chicken tamales are very good. Salvadoran tamales come wrapped in a green tea leaf instead of a corn husk like Mexican tamales. They are a lot softer and aren't as dry as the Mexican ones as well. If you're out to try new things, pupusas should be #1 on your list! read more

An incredible place to get delicious food! The restaurant is small and kind of tucked away but a GREAT find. The workers are all very kind and the menu is extremely well priced. Not sure what the hype is about. Food is bland and really lacks seasoning. The Truifino special is just an overcooked surf and turf you can get at Chilies which would have seasoning at least. The beef and chicken were really rubbery and not edible. In addition, the venue was terrible. A couple of fold out chairs and plastic tables and the service was very slow. However, my friend got plantains which were delicious. Not crazy about the pupusa but the Horchata was really good which is why I'm not giving this one star. read more

Okay, so we went here because of a Yelp review. 4.5 Stars. It is right near North Point and University intersection. The place is attractive and you feel right at home immediately. The owner came our and took our order. It is a family run business that has been around for several years. I had the El Triunfo special which was chicken, carne asada, and grilled shrimp. My wife just had the carne asada. Folks, this is like a home cooked meal. The main items were all excellent and the rice and beans & pico de gallo were also just really good. The owner knew that this was our first time and helped us out. We have lived in Jersey City and D.C., so we are not unfamiliar with what we are eating. It was as good as we have had anywhere. One of the other reviewers talked about the simplicity of the food; he is right -- do it simple -- do it well -- nothing else needs be done. The owner asked us how we found out about El Triunfo and we said we saw it got good reviews on Yelp. He did not know Yelp, but he was delighted to see the reviews. He is a very nice man; his wife came out and spoke to us and she was also very nice. We will be back time and again. Good food. Good prices. Nice nice people. My first experience with Salvadoran food. The food here is really delicious and came out nice and hot. The cheese pupusas were really good. Prices here are reasonable especially the kids meals. You will be full afterwards. The only downside was it took longer than I expected to get the check which made it more difficult with two toddlers. I would definitely recommend though! read more
