I wanted to have a break from the deep fried southern food, so my family and I went on Yelp to look for a good Mexican restaurant. The first restaurant we chose was closed, despite it saying it was open online, so we decided to dine at El Vallarta. They weren't as busy when we arrived, but the restaurant quickly filled up while we dined here. I really enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. It was giving a vintage Mexican housing community feel. The service here was pretty good. All of the staff we encountered were quite friendly, even with our little one. Our waiter was also quite knowledgeable of the menu. The food was very good! This was the first Mexican restaurant I visited in Virginia, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The food, however, was absolutely delicious! The enchiladas rancheros were savory and well-seasoned. It doesn't come with rice and beans, but I ordered them on the side. Even the rice and beans were well-seasoned. My husband enjoyed his tacos and our little one absolutely loved the rice. We'll be dining here again when we are back in the area. read more

I love it here! The food is always fresh and hot and the staff is always super nice. This time I got the Texano burrito, it was filled with chicken, shrimp, and steak. It was very good! My friend got the nachos, he liked it but there were lots and lots of onions. We came around 4pm and it was pretty empty. By the time we were finished at around 5pm or 6pm, it was pretty crowded. We dined at El Vallarta last night and it was delicious. We got the sizzling Fajita for two. Very tasty. Most at of the time we get ACP Texicana, which we love, as a carry out and split it. Dining in was a nice change of pace and surprisingly, they were not as busy as they usually are, so the noise level was low. read more

There's several Mexican restaurants in Danville, VA and my husband and I've been to most of them. Our favorite's El Vallarta for several reasons. Great service is the number one reason. As soon as you enter, you get greeted and sat immediately. Chips and salsa comes in shortly. Wait staff are all friendly and on the ball. Food is delish and very reasonably priced! My meal was only $6.95! The portion's sufficient! They also have great cocktails! The decor's very festive. I liked all the colorful wood carvings on the wall. Our granddaughter enjoyed looking at them, too. I highly recommend to give them a try. read more

Not good at all. I ordered shredded steak enchiladas. I got two rubbery, microwaved tortillas with cheese inside of them, shredded steak ON TOP of those, with the red enchilada sauce on the side in small bowl. VERY STRANGE. There was some watery liquid underneath the tortillas, that I can not explain. Well that was disappointing. This used to be the place to eat great Mexican food but tonight was a major let down. The food came out fast but had no seasoning and the beans tasted like they came from a can. I was expecting more from this place because it looks nice... restrooms are clean and spacy. But the waiter we got had attitude since beginning till end; not sure if she was having an off day but it showed so unprofessional. She also made me a piña colada that tasted awful. The rice was ok. My dad's coctel was watered down, no flavor. The chicken my husband got was super THIN no filling at all. My chicken flautas were burnt. If you're looking to try authentic Mexican food this just wasn't it for me. Flavor just needs work. But the place is clean and has a good family vibe. If you grew up in the north then maybe you wouldn't notice the taste difference. But for someone who is from Mexico then you'll notice. Had a great lunch here at El Vallarta, the service was lightning fast. My order was out in less than 10 minutes, I had the chori pollo. The chicken breast was grilled perfectly and had a good amount of very flavorful chorizo on top, it came with rice, beans and tortillas, I chose corn tortillas. We really enjoyed our dining experience and hope to return again soon whenever I am in the area. We arrived with a party of five and were seated immediately. There were not many additional patrons there but after an hour, the place began to fill up. I had the Pollo Tropical. It was pretty tasty. I think in the future I would opt for something with less cheese though. The cheese had no flavor was unnecessary. A cream sauce would have been perfect. My parents had the tilapia platter and a seafood platter with scallops, shrimp and loved them both. My brother had the melanaise dish and enjoyed it. Don't mind waiting or paying for good food, ordered a texas fajita for two and it came out maybe 2 mins after we sat down, don't know why these mexican restaurants want to boil onions and green peppers with the meat don't like boiled meat, theres no flavor when its boiled....I think it's lazy, if you gonna charge good make it good quality....The service was good, every time someone came to the table, it was a different person....Definitely won't be back, that's our second try.... read more

NO STARS TO GIVE.!!!!!! Online said they closed at 11 and we arrived at 9:50pm. I've worked in the restaurant business, if your open the kitchen is open. My appetizer sampler look like they just threw the quesadilla on the plate the I see meat was barely in the wrap. We ordered our meals, but they wouldn't let us order after 10:30 for take out. I ordered a alcohol beverage when I ordered my food and was not asked for ID and was brought a glass of Plain Margarita mix and ice no alcohol at all...!!!!! If it's a called TEXAS MARGARITA I would expect to taste some Tequila not CONCENTRATED MARGARITA MIX...!!!!!!! Didn't write my order down correctly so I was charged extra for my food because it didn't come out with the sauce on it I was charged for the sauce!!!!!!!!!!! Last night was just bad service all around and on my fiancé birthday. If coming into your place of business an hour before you close then don't ask if you want to be seated you should instead ask guests to order take out... Nice staff. Just grabbed takeout. I got steak fajitas and 2 ground beef tacos. The tacos were mush and tasteless It took 4 minutes to go from the restaurant to my hotel room. The fajitas weren't great Nothing was remarkable or memorable. What was worse was the chips and salsa. The chips were tasteless. Didn't seem fresh either. The salsa was gross. El Vallarta is by far my go-to Mexican restaurant in Danville. They have consistently had good service and food for as long as I can remember and that is what continues to bring me back. Not to mention the quality of food for the price and how quick the food comes out. To put it simply, I feel like the best way to know if a Mexican restaurant is good is the quality of there chips and salsa. Was in town for work and stopped here for a quick lunch. While I can't say I had super high expectations, I actually had a really good meal. Menu was pretty standard, but had quite a few options. Looking around the place it seemed like a lot of people opted for the fajitas so decided to give them a go. Really good - the chicken was perfectly cooked (sometimes it's pretty dry in fajitas) and the veggies were delicious. My work colleague got the chimichangas and they got great reviews as well. Update: I almost always order the same thing--veggie fajitas, without rice or tomatoes. I am quite impressed that most of the waiters and waitresses know what I want before I order. Well, this time, when my food comes out, I have a side plate without tomatoes but a full order of rice instead of the beans I expected. I had already filled up on chips and I figured I didn't need the beans tonight. Somebody noticed the problem and brought me a plate without me even asking. Terrible service from the manager Pedro, not once but twice he's questioned my ID, he takes it to the back and then comes back and asks me how old I am. I'm 35 years old with the back pain and wrinkles to prove it. I'm sorry black doesn't crack. I also saw a roach in the restaurant while I was waiting for my food. I won't be returning. Most of the time I prefer a taqueria to the Tex-Mex that's served in most Mexican restaurants, but I do enjoy it every once in a while. Plus I was heading out with my Mom, so I have to keep it pretty tame for her and she loves quesadillas so Tex-Mex it was yesterday. We have been here a few times while visiting relatives in Danville and this is one of the few regular Mexican places I really like. I really like their version of seafood burritos. They take baby shrimp and small scallops and grill them with pico de gallo then wrap it in a couple of flour tortillas and cover them with the white cheese sauce. It's pretty simple but I haven't seen it anywhere else, It's nice and spicy from the pico and it keeps the small shrimp from being dry as it more steams than grills them. It comes with a salad with more pico and half a sliced avocado, and the obligatory spray tan orange rice. They also do a decent version of carnitas Large chunks of pork cooked down nice and tender with tortillas, rice and beans. I wish they would grill them a bit to get that exterior crust though. Mom tried their Maricos con Arroz on this visit and it was a very good dish as well. Grilled mediium-sized shrimp, scallops, zucchini and yellow squash was served over a bed of rice and covered in the white cheese sauce. The vegetables had nice char to them and an adobo seasoning flavor. The seafood was bit overcooked but still had good flavor. I would order this for myself in the future. On other visits she has ordered the fajita quesadilla which is steak, onions and peppers grilled and covered with cheese. I'm not a big fan of it, but she enjoys it. It's good entry level dish for folks who might be out of their comfort zone with 'foreign' food because it's a bit like a cheesesteak sandwich. It's a pretty huge portion too. One drawback is the completely awful table salsa they serve, it's nothing but pure blended tomatoes with some oregano, no onions or cilantro to be found. It's very bland and boring. The salsa picante is different story though, very spicy with toasted smoky hot chiles, onion, cilantro and little vinegar bite. It even makes the rice edible it's so good. They have the usual selection of bar choices and they pour a really stiff drink on the occasions I have opted for an adult beverage. Make sure you're a passenger if you plan having more than one though. Service is not quite up to par, you often have to flag someone down for a refill but they are very nice if not particularly efficient. Having tried the so-called "Best Mexican" place in Danville, I can say this place is so much better for Americanized Mexican food. You can do much worse than a visit here, so give it try next time you want some Tex-Mex. read more
