This is my second review for this restaurant. My first experience wasn't great, so they got 3 stars. But, having just returned (for the first time since my original review), it was very different. I met a friend here for lunch. We set on the patio because he brought his dog. It's cool that they allow dogs on the patio. I arrived first. As soon as I sat down, I was served chips and salsa. The waiter then came over to take my drink order. When my friend arrived, he had his drink order taken immediately as well. We then ordered our meals and had planned on eating there. A change of plans occurred someone another meal and we were going to their place to eat. We changed our mind right as they were getting ready to serve our meals. They went ahead and boxed them up for us. They also brought my to go order. The waiter handled our bill quickly and efficiently. I'm giving them five stars for this review. I found no issues with the service, the environment, or the food. read more

This place is a solid 'good'... not game breaking or anything crazy. It's good Mexican food when you're close in the area (cough VIR). I've been a few times this year and the first time was pretty solid. No issues. Def what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant - fast, good taste, and of course them chips :) However, I will say that the last visit was quite scary. I guess they had an issue with the gas line so they had to use their food truck to service the inside. While not a big deal, the service was just awful. The wait times for people just to come say hi and take our orders were just ridiculous. At one point I was just servicing our table by grabbing napkins, silverware, etc. Idk, this place has been solid over time so I'll give that one instance a pass. Everything was great. The location was easy to find, the food was good, the wait time was short. Very pleased.

Service and atmosphere were fine but the consensus amongst our party of ten was that the food was just meh (with the exception of the guac, which was good.) My fried chimichanga arrived cold and barely fried, if at all. The joint was packed however so I'd be willing to give another shot on a future trip to Danville. read more

You can immediately tell it's going to be a good experience since it's busy and everyone looks like they are having a good time. Instantly noticed their bar with a blue back light that made it very attractive to sit on their marble like countertop. I personally enjoyed their Burrito Tejano since it had steak and shrimp... and it was PACKED with them. It was a superb meal and at an amazing value. Highly recommend and would revisit. read more

The kitchen and dining area are under renovation, so the menu is very limited and food is prepared in a food truck parked outside. Chips taste store bought and salsa doesn't have good flavor. Chicken and beef came as flat, dry patties, and the beef is poor quality. Rice is crispy/crunchy. We ordered one chicken and one carne asada quesadilla, but they brought two chicken. Stopped in for lunch while in Danville, very colorful interior, love the bright decorative tables, chairs and booths. I was in early so I was seated immediately. Waiter asked what I would like to drink, I asked if they had horchata and he looked a little puzzled and said yes, but didn't make any that day. He brought my drink and the chips and salsa, the salsa was more like tomato sauce than anything, it was smooth with no chunky anything in it. I ordered the Huevos con Chorizo, scrambled eggs with chorizo sausage, it came with rice, beans and tortillas. The eggs were loaded with a good amount of chorizo, their chorizo was borderline bland, I actually had to add a little salt to it and also added some Tapatio hot sauce, once I doctored it up myself, it was very good. I really really like this location. The food here is fresh and tasty. The service is excellent. The prices are outstanding for the area. My sister and I eat here on a regular basis. It is our favorite small Mexican restaurant in the area. Yesterday , I had the fried shredded beef chimichanga with a side of beans and some salad. it was excellent. We will definitely return. Yuck. The food was bland and flavorless. My enchilada was ground beef wrapped in a greasy tortilla. The burrito was ground beef wrapped in a greasy tortilla. My chili rellano was not that. There was no coating. It wasn't stuffed with cheese. They covered it in some weird red sauce. It was all wrong. I'm from NOVA, lived in Southern Texas for a few years, and I'm half Mexican. I know authentic Mexican this was not it. I also know good American Mexican food and texmex, again this was not it. It was terrible. Danville really sucks as far as the food scene goes, in my experience. But I have found some great little hole in the wall authentic Mexican spots. I'd skip this one. read more

This restaurant is absolutely incredible! I've never had service so fast- especially on a busy Saturday night. So I have to admit, I probably visit Los Tres more than any reasonable person should, but whenever come back home I always have to stop to eat here. One of the things that makes Los Tres special is that the wait staff does a very nice job of welcoming you in and offers good service throughout the meal. You really get the feeling that they are genuinely interested in you and won't hesitate to make you feel at home. As far as the food, I enjoy eating here as opposed to many other Mexican places, because they do the little things right. The free chips are made in shop and usually come out hot and the salsa is very light and not overly chunky...something I can't stand. The dishes are what you would come to expect from a Mexican restaurant, but it's the combination plates that give you the most value. The burritos, soft tacos and quesadillas are my favorite things here and usually served with sides like the amazingly tasty rice. I don't let any food go to waste here. The one thing I always do is order grilled chicken on my quesadillas, it costs a little extra but really takes it to another level. They also offer a kids menu that has things like hamburgers if your kid is not feeling the Mexican food. Desserts are also pretty good here with a strong recommendation for the Chimi Cheesecake. Of course they also offer a wide variety of drinks including margaritas, beers and mixed drinks. The atmosphere is pretty nice with vibrant colors and murals on the walls that tell the story of tequila. Theres always some new little ornament you notice each time you visit. There is also a covered outdoor seating area that is good for groups on those nice evenings. I can safely say that I am one of the most frequent customers here and have never had a bad experience...thats saying something for a lot of restaurants here. Los Tres Magueyes is a gem in Danville, VA when it comes to Mexican food. In fact, I was super impressed and I wish most Mexican restaurant experiences could be like the one that Los Tres Magueyes in Danville provides. We stopped in during a race weekend at VIR, and I noticed that down the hill from the hotel was a Mexican Restaurant. My first inclination was to boot up Yelp and see what everyone had to say, and that's when I knew I had to come. My first experience here was a Friday lunch and the service was great, the inside is very clean and when you order your food, holy cow it comes out fast. They obviously know how to run an efficient machine. The complimentary chips and salsa are also delicious--chips are not overly salty and the salsa is fresh and flavorful. A great reason to come here is the great quality and the amazing low price for what you get. As you can see from my pictures, I got a lunch chicken sincronizada which was so tasty for only $5.95 and then when I came back the following day for dinner, I noted that the dinner prices were still low and most of the larger dinner entrées did not surpass $11. I got an order of the mixed chicken and steak fajitas and when it arrived to the table I was wowed. Great presentation, great fresh ingredients, and most importantly it was scrumptious--and only $10.25! If I lived in the area, I would definitely make it a habit eating here. Unfortunately, I'm only going to get to visit when I'm at VIR but this makes another reason on my list to look forward to coming up and accompanying the mister during race season! read more

I'm not sure if I ordered the wrong thing or had high expectations but this restaurant was okay at best. Chicken fajitas had no flavor, Spanish rice was oily and no flavor and tortillas tasted straight from a bag. I suspect they do make their own chips as mine tasted burnt. I headed over from the hotel to this unassuming roadside family restaurant, and away from the endless chains that dot the Danville landscape. The service was prompt and courteous, as I placed a take-away order. I settled on the two taquitos lunch special. It was a no-frills but nevertheless delicious dish with well-seasoned ground beef, lettuce and queso fresco on hard corn shells. It would have been more than enough to fulfill my desire for a quick and delicious lunch but it came with chips and salsa as well. My lunch was $4.00 total....I'm not joking. Better, fresher and faster than any generic crappy chain can deliver. This place goes on my list of solid options when I am in VA for work though it is no Calaca Feliz near home. read more

So let me explain the two stars. The Mrs and I are out of town for a conference and our hotel manager recommended this spot as his favorite . We took him up on his suggestion and came here for dinner. The host was spirited, full of smiles, pleasant and good vibes. We were impressed up until our server came. Now, we have a favorite Mexican spot at home and we are accustomed to flavorful food and great service. Back to this spot, the server came to our table, never told us his name, and said "you ready"? To which we replied no, and he left. However, when we were ready, I had to get another server (who did not understand English) so I used hand gestures to explain that I needed my server who was standing 10 feet away. She got his attention and he came to take our orders. The food came out quickly but way too fast to have any flavor, and to our guess, it was bland! He slammed our drink on the table and spilled it every where and then walked off! Never returned to check on us, never offered a refill on drinks but he did come with the bill swiftly! So were there any positives, yes! They have chips they make in the restaurant. Yep, that's all that was good about this place, aside from the hostess! Nice people, Just OK service and food was not great for me. Tacos de pollo asado - grilled chicken tacos contained tiny pieces of almost flavorless chicken. The Pico de Gallo wasn't fresh tomatoes, onion, jalapeno, cilantro, and lime juice. It was more like onions with a few pieces of tomato. The salsa was ketchup like. The rice and beans were fine. The prices were fair. Not looking for fine dining, but doesn't appear they are trying. After two visits, we will eat Mexican when out of town.
