We walked into a brightly lit restaurant with a few booths and tables and several vibrantly painted murals on the walls. Marta was our server and she was quick and efficient. If you look up hustling in the dictionary, I'm sure you'll find a picture of her. She was amazing, friendly and accommodating. I looked over the menu and was surprised to see such items as carne guisada and chile Colorado. I opted for the flautas which stated that they were made with flour tortillas (a Tex-Mex indicator). In my neck of the woods, flautas are made with corn tortillas so I was preparing myself for a little disappointment, but when my meal came out I was happily surprised to find that they were actually made with corn tortillas. They were delicious, perfectly crispy and the shredded chicken was flavorful. We did have to order a side of rice and beans, which seemed odd, typically flautas come on a plate WITH rice and beans in my experience so that did add to our bill. I suggest you make sure you read what is actually included and don't just assume. The rice and beans however, were extremely flavorful and authentic. My son usually eats about 1/2 the rice & bean sides, but he plowed through both leaving me with sadly, but a few bites. My husband ordered some green chile chicken enchiladas and said they spectacular. I hope we see Marta next time we're in town, because she made the entire experience memorable. I'm excited, we found an authentic Mexican restaurant that truly holds up to its name.

The enchilada and taco were just OK, but the beans were great. I loved eating the beans with the complimentary tortilla chips at the table, which were lightly salted and warm. What I should have ordered, which someone at my table ordered, were the birria tacos. Now those looked delicious. They come with a little bowl of consome, plus rice and beans. Along with their 12-page Mexican menu, they also have an American menu. I was intrigued by the "Hamburger Burrito" -- I should have ordered it because I keep wondering exactly what that might be. Is it a burrito with a hamburger and toppings in it, or is it a hamburger with burrito filling in it? I guess I'll never know.

I will say that the hours are very confusing and you'll find different information on if they are open Saturdays depending on where you look. When we were there I noticed a sign on the door that said they are open every other Saturday - so you might have to call if you don't want to chance it on the weekend. Now onto the restaurant. The first thing I noticed was that it's in a historic old building downtown, and I loved the charm of the place. The owners have clearly put some work into giving it it's own flair and it's honestly a fun ambiance to dine in. The servers were all super friendly as well, and the food was pretty good. I'd give the food a B+ for tex mex but in a small town I think it's probably closer to an A-. My only real complaint about this place was that the highchair didn't have really any belts or anything to buckle our baby into so I spent most of our meal making sure she wasn't falling, or just holding her which isn't ideal for enjoying a meal. Overall, though, this place is a nice local spot that I'd return to if in the area. It's family friendly with good service and decent food.
