I have come twice and cannot get past the lengua though I should try other meats. This time I got a lengua taco with onions and cilantro, and a lengua gordita. Everything was delicious, hot and fresh! The salsas were all delicious. I especially liked the one with avocado, but who wouldn't? The cashier admitted the horchata was not fresh (it was on Sunday) so she refunded us. This place is connected to a small market that sells Mexican products and even pinatas. We drove from Junction City where we were staying to this wonderful little spot. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside you will find delicious homemade Mexican food, a wonderful local server who not only served our food, but he provided us directions through the backroads to JC. It was nice and casual and we really enjoyed the people who work here because they were so accommodating despite that we arrived less than an hour before they were to close. Just happened to stumble upon this Mexican restaurant while on a road trip through Kansas. Decent food. We got the asada plate ( wish it came with beans), flautas (no rice or beans included ) and carne asada torta ( no fries included ). Everyone was pleased with what they received . My son got an horchata as well and enjoyed it. A bit on the sweeter side he said. The salsa was ok. The red is more flavorful. A bit pricey but most things are these days. Well I don't know if they had people not show up for work or not. The margaritas were made by our waitress and she admitted she just didn't know how to make them. My brother had her take his back and redo it. The place is clean and well decorated I have been in more authentic Mexican restaurants for food than this place. Luckily I will have the opportunity to go back and try it again. I just think something was off which is bad for a Saturday evening outing. I felt the prices were reasonable for what we got and not to much food that had to be taken home. I had the burrito and it was about 4 inches long which I felt was odd never had such a small burrito before and it was tasteless bland. The food is the best I've had in such a long time. It's authentic, flavorful and can't be beat. It reminds me of my time living in Mexico while studying. I highly recommend this restaurant. I ordered two carne asada tacos and a grilled taco & hubby had 3 fish tacos...all were super yummy! The guacamole was fresh as was the salsa. We will visit again! The only complaint I have, the bathroom needs some deep cleaning and sprucing up. Thank God the restaurant interior doesn't match! read more

Have given this place multiple chances. Last time we tried to pick up our order in the drive through and the car in front of us was ignored for about 20 minutes. I went in to see if I could pick up at the counter and despite giving them an hour when they said food would be ready in 45, it doesn't seem the kitchen was even aware of our ticket. This little place is definitely a hidden gem in Manhattan! It's totally off in a corner back off Anderson and Seth Childs behind the old Rays Apple market! But it is sooo worth the hunt! Went in there the other night for a very late supper amd the special smothered burrito was enormous and amazing! Hubby ate half and took the rest home for the next day! I had the pupusa which was new to me and very tasty. Sort of a tamale type entree only no corn husks and made flat and round like a tortilla. It was delish! Yummo!!! The absolutely authentic Taqueria! This is a rarity and Manhattan should count itself lucky to have the real deal in town. If you like fake Mexican food you may not like this, but if you have a taste for true tacos with small corn tortillas, onion, cilantro and queso. This is the best in town and a bit of a secret, so spread the word and please show your support to La Hacienda. The environment is as expected, in a market. The menu has all the unique meats as well as the standard steak, pork and chicken options. I suggest ordering orchata (a sweat rice drink that is as heavenly as a milk shake.) Boom!! ... This place is a gem!! Coming from Dallas we were sad to leave all the authentic, hole-in-the-wall, gas station, made with love mexican/tex-mex grub. Ahhhhhhhhh!!! (Insert angelic voices) Ordered the gordita with carnitas, small steak burrito (came with beans/rice) & had chips/salsa as an app. Salsas .... Definitely a fresh homemade taste. The verde and red were spot on. Could use a little more heat for an option but definitely tasty. Meats ... Both carnitas and steak (cut into cubes) was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Sides ... Rice was flavorful and NOT greasy. Side of refried beans was definitely made with love (& lard) - rich, creamy, delicious. Tortilla/gordita shells were fresh and flavorful. Couldn't figure out what to get for lunch so of course went for Mexican because everyone loves a burrito anytime anywhere. First time to La Hacienda, based on everyone's stellar reviews, decided to check it out. The one time in my life that I was in Mexico, well, I don't remember much of it, so I'll refrain from discussing the authenticity of the food and focus on my overall experience. The restaurant isn't that big, and has music and tvs playing in the background. There were two waitresses serving four full booths, so it took a hot second for me to get noticed and get a menu. I ordered chicken burrito and beef gordito, waitress made it sound like I'd be able to finish it, so we'll see how large the servings are. I got to work on the table nachos and house salsa. The salsa was awesome, and I destroyed those chips! And I managed to only spill salsa on myself once, so bully for me! The burrito was really good, a little on the salty side, but would def eat again. The gordito was good, but nothing to write home about. I never got a refill on my salsa, but who cares, I'll be coming back here again to explore the menu more, and recommend you come here too. read more

All things considered my experience at La Hacienda was positive. I went at 6 on a Sunday for a quick dinner and it was not very busy. It's pretty cheap and pretty good! La hacienda has an odd layout. I guess they used to have a grocery store on one side and on the other side they had the dining room but now the side where the grocery store was is more or less empty. The dining room was nothing special with counter service. I had four tacos (lengua was excellent), a tamale and a Mexican Pepsi. The tamales seem to be their most popular dish;however, I found them to be a bit underwhelming. La Hacienda still gets four stars. Good Mexican is very hard to come by in Manhattan and is definitely worth a visit! read more

Truly authentic Mexican food. Cheap. Serves menudo on the weekends. Great selection. Can't believe I never noticed this place until now! Ever since leaving Fort Hood, I've been obsessed with menudo. I was spoiled being able to get it any day of the week. Once I moved to the Midwest, I sort of gave up on trying to find a place to get my fix, and of course, when I least expected it, I found an awesome place. The Fiance and I came here for lunch a couple of weeks ago. The restaurant is also a market... a very small one. The restaurant side consists of about 15 tables/booths. No fancy decorations, just music in the background and the smell of great Mexican cooking. We ordered a carne asada torta, tostada, and a couple of carne asada tacos. The carne asada tasted great and perfectly seasoned and cooked. The bread they used was great - I've had some bad experiences at some places. The taco's were very simple... two tortillas, meat, onions, and cilantro. Very tasty, fresh, and authentic, especially with their different salsas and sauces from there salsa/sauce bar. The main reason why I love this place is their menudo. I've returned twice on the weekends and it definitely hit the spot every time. The first time, I ordered a large bowl... it was massive. I learned my lesson and ordered a small my second time. Even the small was filled with plenty of tasty intestines and the soup was very balanced -not too salty. It comes with bread or tortillas and some lime. If you're looking for menudo in Manhattan, this is the place! I am sure it's the only place that serves it here, anyways. read more
