Always a nice place to have traditional authentic Mexican food. El Zarape has always pulled through with their dishes. This morning's dish of choice were chilaquiles green sauce with eggs and a light breakfast for my partner. Both were delicious and well presented. Compliments to the cook! There were others dining inside and outside of the restaurant. We sat inside, by the window, with a great view of the malecon and ocean. And, it was air conditioned. Perfect dining experience. La Paz doesn't have a lot of vegan options, and this spot is one of the few that specifically offers several pretty good vegan dishes (not all on the menu): enchiladas, fajitas, calabaza rellena and one other that I forgot. I wish we had come here sooner during our trip!! Not only can you sit inside with wonderful AC but the food is awesome. They had live music when we came on a Sunday afternoon that was very nice and mellow. The service was great and the staff here are all very sweet and make you feel at home. My boyfriend and I both had the fajitas that were very good and we would definitely recommend them. We also had the beef flautas (taquitos) as an appetizer and they were soooo good. Lots of seafood in this town but if you want some authentic Mexican beans and rice, along with your choice of meats, this is the place for you. Everything about this place was amazing. From the food to the customer service, they go above and beyond. The complimentary lentil soup before your meal is served, is delicious! So this restaurant has been my husband and I's favorite for a while now. We have been living in La Paz for about 7 months and have ate at this restaurant around 5x. Doesn't sound like much but that is a lot considering how many places there are to eat out at here. We really enjoy the 2x1 everyday special they have on the margaritas; we've also enjoyed their complementary serving of chips&salsa. The only issue we have run into is that of a rude "manager" (or whoever she may be; cause she sure acts like a boss lady) getting really upset at us for ordering more than one set of chips w/ salsa and telling us they will be charging us for it. At this point we are considered "regulars" and we did not mind; what we did mind was the tone it was brought to us with. Long story short we had gone inside one day to have a couple margaritas with some chips and salsa. She did not like that we only had 4 margaritas and enjoyed their complementary snack; which we left a good tip for. Anyways..... Fast forward to a couple weeks after, we decide to go there again for some drinks and chips w/ salsa; we were greeted by no other than boss lady in a rather uncomfortable way. She came to our table more than once to ask if we were ready to order food after we had ordered our drinks and some chips w/ salsa. She was rather aggressive and almost impatient that we took long to order. The chips we received with the salsa were stale and extremely hard to chew. We decided not to make it a big deal and asked for another order without trying to put anyone on blast. Again she said the same thing "we are going to charge you for another order". We were over with the attitude and said nevermind that it was okay. So we made our pick, i order some carne asada nachos and my husband ordered some shrimp tacos. Here's where it starts; we receive our food and what a surprise, we get stale chips in the carne asada nachos. Now this is a huge order of chips with all the other good stuff and it does not taste good. So I finally decide to complain; I let her know the situation, she takes the dish back into the kitchen to "investigate". The cooks' and her conclusion was that the beans and cheese make the chips soggy and tough to eat. I sat there and kindly explained that there is a huge difference between old stale chips and chips covered in beans and cheese. She argued that no one else had any complaints about the chips in the chilaquiles all day (chilaquiles get soaked in salsa and no one would be able to tell of they were stale or not) and that they were made fresh early in the morning. So I let her know it's okay and if she could just replace the chips with fries instead it would be okay. So she tells me that they won't be able to add meat on the new order because meat is expensive and will have an extra cost; i tell her that its fine, that we will take a new order to go. Being kinda tipsy and all we never receive our to go order and again we left a pretty good tip. The customer is always right even if they arent right. I shouldn't have to argue why my food wasn't right. I left dissatisfied and now I will be thinking twice before choosing to eat here. They lost a regular because they don't know what customer service is and now may lose potential clients due to this review. I always give places a second chance but she made it a big deal and even went as far to say that "next time i come in and order carne asada nachos , that she would ensure they make it with fresh chips. Super insulting; all food should be made fresh, but that's just my opinion right? read more

They kept forgetting our order and bringing us incorrect items. The food's quality fails to meet the La Paz standards I'm used to. Corn tortillas are the cheapest ones you can buy at the market. Coffee is bad, it was cold so we had to send it back and it tasted like instant coffee. I really don't understand all the 5 stars ratings, perhaps me being Mexican doesn't helps.
