My daughter lives locally and really enjoys this restaurant. It is bright, clean and easy to have conversation. The appetizer chicken on fried plantain tostones was excellent. I enjoyed the horchata aqua Fresca was good but 32 oz. is just too much for one person. My daughter who lives nearby likes their tamales. This is a hidden gem. You can get all the standard Mexican stuff- enchiladas, burritos, fajitas, etc. They are as good as any place I have visited around the US, including Texas. But you have to try the traditional Mexican dinners. Absolutely delicious. Plus they serve beer in giant mugs cheap. Service is always good and the owners are very nice. Food was mediocre, plain and bland! Service was basically no service we had to ask for napkins and as they bring the napkins they are ready to bring our bill. At first I saw the reviews summed to 4.5 stars but this seriously is not worthy. We are from San Deigo, San Francisco, Los Angeles. We didn't expect to have the same food. My husband ordered a quesadilla it had cheese and ground beef. Anything beyond that is xtra. It was dry as heck! I ordered the Veggie nachos and it had like watered down cheese with peppers onions broccoli and cauliflower. It was bland and plain. Like no beans no rice no sour cream or even salsa! A good but not great Mexican restaurant. We ordered takeout, and every item was well-packaged and in good shape when we dug in. In terms of flavor, there wasn't much going on. The guacamole was good, but the salsa wasn't much more than tomato sauce. The tacos were good, but uninspiring. I appreciated the large number of vegetable-centric options, but they were all mostly variations on the same set of grilled vegetables. That might be par for the course at a Midwestern Mexican restaurant, but I generally hope to see better. One additional note is that the location can be somewhat hard to get to. The restaurant sits right alongside a tricky onramp/offramp situation for I-70, and that can make getting into and out of the parking lot a little challenging. The situation is probably something I could get the hang of, but it's something to be prepared for. read more

Came here because we heard this place was under new management. Sad#1: We walked in and tried to order margaritas but they didn't have their license yet. Sad #2: I tried to order an horchata instead, but apparently they didn't have it even though it was on the menu. BURRITO #1: My partner got a meat filled burrito. It was so big that he could only get through 1/3rd of it before asking for a box. I think they should have smaller burritos and offer a side instead. That's just too much burrito. THREE TACOS: I ordered the house special of three tacos. I got each taco with different kinds of meats. 1, chicken; 2, chorizo; 3, carnitas. Whoops, change carnitas to the steak option because they AGAIN, DIDN'T HAVE IT IN. (Sad #3) The green sauce served with the tacos was good and spicy. The flavors were also very good, the chorizo was the star of the show... but the refried beans that came with the side of rice were lacking. CHURROS: The server gave us churros that were on the house, basically to say sorry for not having the items I wanted. The churros has a side of whipped cream with a cherry, and drizzled in chocolate syrup. The churros were nice and hot, but I didn't understand why there was chocolate on them when they're good as is. PRICE: My bill came out to $36 dollars or so before tip. PARKING is in the back of the restaurant. After 5 pm you can park in the other next door parking lot. SERVICE: VERY ATTENTIVE to filling waters. I was impressed with the politeness. They even opened the door for us when we entered and left. OVERALL: I was disappointed that the three things I REALLY wanted from this place, I couldn't get. I will have to come back at a later time to try the margaritas, horchata, and carnitas. read more

Small but nice. The service was fine. The chips and salsa are really good. I got the taco salad and it kind of threw me off because the ground beef is in some kind of cream sauce. I expected more like a browned taco meat. It was still good. One of us got a plain chicken burrito that they really liked. The prices on some things is quite high. We were very hungry and El Zocalo came through!! We were greeted upon entry and sat right away. Our drinks and food orders were placed. The kitchen had to be right on the other side of the wall because you could hear the sizzle of the meats and smell the aromas of the meals being prepared. My parents both got the carnitas enchiladas with rice and beans they were both amazed at how much food was put on their plates. They took leftovers and still have some leftover, and that was a couple days ago we went. My brother had an enchilada platter with an assortment of enchiladas. As you can see in the picture, the "side" was served right on top and wow it was a lot of lettuce. I ordered my usual carnitas and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Them came in 6 big chunks that came apart quite easily. The flavor was great, it had a unique char on the meat that I don't recall on too many previous carnitas dishes. If I'm ever in town again I'm definitely coming here again. Awesome service, awesome food. Well done El Zocalo!!! read more

This place is so yummy!!! I visited this place during my stay at Oglebay Resort. I honestly was expecting the same old same old we experience with Mexican restaurants. IMO it's hard to mess up this style of cooking. I was pleasantly surprised. The rivlce here is wonderful and different from a standard run of the mill Mexican restaurant. I don't know what they spice it with but it's pretty fab. The margaritas are on target, too. We also got the bean dip with ground beef in it....it was wonderful! My son got the ground beef chimis and my husband got the chipotle dish (very spicy). We left stuffed and happy. Staff was friendly and attentive. The only down spot was that I was seated in a booth that was dripping water from the ceiling. But tbh, I'd sit under a dripping ceiling to eat here. read more

We're traveling and found this place on yelp with 4 1/2 stars, downgraded only because they didn't have their liquor license. They have it now and the margaritas are perfect. If you're driving order one one medium. Food great-nachos fajitas perfect and enough for two so share. Staff friendly and attentive. We would eat here regularly if we lived here but we're from Illinois. Would come back if we're ever in the area. Well deserving of 5 stars and by the way, the prices are very reasonable. I had heard nothing but great things about this place. So we finally went. I was thoroughly disappointed. We were seated and greeted with chips and salsa within a minute. And then ten passed until we saw a menu. Then another ten before our order was taken. The queso dip was from a can and watered down terribly. The salsa was pretty bland. I ordered the taco fajita salad. It was more of a soup in a fried shell with a few bits of lettuce and a few tomato chunks on top. Very soupy and mostly just onions and peppers in it. With very small portion of small bits of thin shredded chicken The partner ordered the chimichanga and said it was mediocre at best. Wanted to believe the hype. Sadly we won't be back. read more

I love their rice. It's the best Mexican rice around. I wish they would season the meat better. Tonight, I ordered a steak fajita burrito and there wasn't any seasoning on that steak, not even salt and pepper. I think it is wasteful to not cook meat properly. This was the first bad experience I have had there of several visits so maybe it was just a bad night. I do think their chips are always a little too tough on my teeth and under-seasoned. They offer curbside pickup through their drive thru so that's pretty great to have a Mexican restaurant that offers that option. They also have a decent dine in area too, which is currently unavailable due to Covid-19. I will definitely be ordering again, and will update my reviews based on my future experiences. read more

My husband and I do date day every weekend and go out to eat somewhere. We have been to the place that was in this location before as well as the Mexican restaurant in st. Clairesville and I must say this place blows them out of the water. Portions were huge. Service was phenomenal. We had Kyle as our waiter and he was super attentive and super sweet!
