Delightful spot to enjoy a grilled chicken caprese salad in downtown Wheeling, WV! It's not really a restaurant (feels more like a cafeteria) because you place your order from a window, pay for your order, and then pickup a number to wait. Next to the Avenue Eats station is a separate area for wood-fired pizza. And you can find a separate bar area to order craft beer. I think the interior and ceiling are lovely and reflect the historic charm of downtown Wheeling. Overall, I enjoyed the grilled chicken caprese salad which was a healthy option for lunch. Avenue Eats has a wide variety of burger options as well. Would definitely return here for lunch on a future trip. The only downside is that Avenue Eats is closed on both Sundays and Mondays. read more

We ordered online for pickup. First, there is no option to say you want your burger, we'll, medium, etc. Upon arrival, my daughter inquired if the burgers were well done. The young man who was helping said, they could be put back on the grill to make sure. He was very nice about it. The cook, however, was quite obviously unhappy and let my daughter know, very rudely and abrasively that they would just have to be remade because the burgers were falling apart. I will not go back to Avenue Eats. A simple question by a customer should not be answered with such unprofessional anger. Fast ordering at the counter and food came quickly despite them being a bit busy. Washed it down with a New Trail from the bar. Easy street parking. This is a mini-food court, with a separate bar, burger/salad/etc window on one side and wood fired pizza on the other. Pay separately at each. Food is ordered at the window and delivered to you when ready. Pizza is excellent, and the burger/salad/etc side also produces good stuff. Came here today with family for lunch. The staff was friendly and helpful they took our orders quick and got us our food in good time. The place is a really neat old brick building with a bar and some tables set near the walls and windows. It's almost like stepping back in time. I got the pub burger and fries which was very good. The bacon and mustard on the burger was really complementary with the well cooked burger. My only complaint was I wish there were a bunch of small fried onions instead of 2 big circles. We went here just for food before a show. As others have mentioned, this is almost a cafeteria-style bar/restaurant where you order food from a window, buy drinks from the bar (just Diet Coke for us) and then wait for someone to bring your food to you. It feels chaotic, and the place was packed and VERY loud. Definitely more of a bar atmosphere than a restaurant atmosphere, and I was surprised to see how many people seemed pretty wasted by 7 PM. On the plus side, the servers and employees always kept a smile on their faces and worked quickly. Food was just okay... smaller portions than usual for bar food. I would recommend this place if you want drinks and a little food to go with it, but I don't see it as a food-only destination. read more

The burgers (mine was smoked Gouda burger) and fries were delicious. But the actual experience was so odd and disconcerting, I don't think we will return. You walk in and there's a sign saying, "Please seat yourself." So we did. Then we realized you have to go the other end of the room to place your order. And THEN you have to go to the bar and pay separately for your drinks. It took 40 minutes to get our burgers. They weren't that slammed, I don't know what the holdup was. The people who work there were lovely, the food was very good, but the setup is just so strange. read more

I'm so happy there is somewhere trendy and delicious to go to in wheeling! My grandma, aunt, and I went to eat lunch here today. The restaurant use to be a house and they turned it into this great little restaurant! When you walk in, the host greets you and tells you to sit wherever and she will follow. There are only about, 10 tables inside; I would say, and a few tables to sit at outside on their deck when it's warm! (as viewed in my posted photo). The server we had was very polite and patient. It was my aunt and I's first time so we needed a little time to look at the menu. My grandma ordered the BLT and a cup of the House soup which was their homemade potato soup. My aunt and I also ordered the potato soup, and she then ordered the walnut salad. She says it was delicious! The inside was very clean and trendy looking. Wooden tables, and water out of a glass jar to pour for the table. The bathroom was very clean and smelled great. I was impressed by the quick pace the kitchen brought out the food. Our sever was very attentive to the table and cleared our dirty plates quickly. At the end of our lunch, we ordered two cupcakes. One vanilla and one chocolate! Man, were they yummy! The veggies on the burger were fresh, the burger was tasty, and the fries were crispy. We didn't have to wait long because the noon crowd was light. All I can say is WOW! The burger was wonderful, we had the Steakhouse Burger. The bun was perfect, the burger was cooked medium well, but was still juicy. The Chicken Salad had a great amount of mozzarella cheese and wonderful roasted peppers. The Tomato Basil soup was very creamy and had a great tomato flavor. Last key we had the homemade carrot cake and vanilla cupcakes and they melt in your mouth. Parking is a challenge, but that is the only downside. The cheese should be melty and soft. But certainly edible. Salad was a big plus. All the tables got filled really quickly around dinner. I like what they are doing here. We came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. It was pretty busy. We didn't wait too long to be seated because we agreed to sit outside which was fine. The place is rather small is on the smaller side. We did have a great waitress and hostess. We only had waters to drink because their adult beverage menu wasn't too impressive. They had domestics, one or two craft options and wine. I figured they would support some local brewery's on their menu as there are a couple very close by but the did not. I was happy to see that they served freshly ground grass fed meat for their burgers which is what we all ordered. I ordered the Smoked Gouda (smoked Gouda cheese / fresh spinach / caramelized onion / garlic aioli / brioche bun) and a side salad with balsamic dressing. It tasted great but the burger fell apart and ended up being rather messy. I guess that's a sign it was hand pattied. My husband ordered the Diner Burger (sharp cheddar / lettuce / onion / pickle / diner sauce / kaiser bun) with fries which he said was also good but it too fell apart easily. read more

I absolutely love Avenue Eats. I usually go for the Smoked Gouda burger because the garlic aioli is to die for. But this past visit I tried the Brie and Grilled Pear burger...so stinking good! The fries are always great- and here's a little pro tip for my fellow onion lovers- get a side of their caramelized onion sauce to top your fries in. You'll thank me later. As if it couldn't get any better, they also sell desserts from WHISK so I don't know how anyone is supposed to leave Avenue Eats without gaining 5lbs. Highly recommend this cute little local eats.
