While driving through Poway, I couldn't believe my eyes, a HALLMARK store!!! All my favorites have closed shop, but here was another one in real life. Of course, I didn't need anything, but I went in regardless. All those beautiful memories came flooding back to me. The beautiful smells, the shiny things we just have to have and the amazing staff that Hallmark is so good at hiring. Suddenly I needed so many things. First the basics, I went through cards and bought up several to have at home. Then some note cards, who doesn't want to write a beautiful hand written note to someone and make their day. Then of course, Tis the Season, I had to look at all the ornaments and giftables (word?) and candy and OMG everything!!! I have already been back in one week's time. I didn't realize how much I missed walking into a Hallmark store, until I went through those magical doors. Holiday items are on sale, (at least the Thanksgiving stuff was), great value to pick up some items now for next years fun. Oh, and to top it off. My phone number was STILL in their system. They are loyal if nothing else. read more

I've been in many times and have only had good interactions. The staff always seem to be nice and super knowledgeable about the types of cards they have and where they are. The store have a very good selection of various events, including and beyond birthdays. There are also a bunch of non-card gifts you can purchase. The Hallmark rewards program is good too because you get a free card every month without purchase. read more

This store is small with limited inventory compared to other locations. Not very friendly or helpful. They don't even follow their marked business hours. They closed an hour plus early on Valentines Day with no signage of why. Very disappointed and won't be going to this location ever again. read more

Reprehensible and unacceptable behavior exhibited by an employee named Esther, she was rude, refused to acknowledge a question asked and was as nasty a person can be. She should be fired for her behavior toward a customer. Hallmark. One of the best places to find unique & cute gifts, especially for the holidays or birthdays! I've been here a handful of times, usually to look for Snoopy items for my mom, who is one of those super fans. This store has something for everyone, especially if they like pop culture. There's a good selection of Snoopy, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Disney, Star Trek, Stranger Things (itty bitties), Christmas ornaments, dog & cat items, etc. There are also a selection of funny & novelty signs for Healthcare workers which I appreciated. Makes great gifts, especially right now. There are also some trinkets, jewelry, shawls, scarves, handbags and other knick knacks. Jolene was so awesome today. Helped me apply my $5 coupon & the awesome 25% off promotion as part of their 12 Days of Christmas. There was a bit of an issue with the card reader, but she patiently switched to another register so that I could pay with my contactless payment method. As a lifelong Hallmark customer, I am sad to see the severe decline in the quantity and quality of cards in the store. More often than not I am unable to find a card in the store due to the poor selection. Today I went to get a Birthday card for my six-year-old Granddaughter. There were very few Granddaughter cards, and none were suitable for a 6-year-old. In addition, there were no cards for 6-year-old birthday. So, I stopped in to the 99-cent store and they had a large selection of Granddaughter cards for all ages. I had multiple cards to choose from for $1 each as opposed to the $5-$9 for a Hallmark card. I'm sad to see the decline in Hallmark. From now on I will try the 99-cent store first. read more

I love shopping for greeting cards at Elam's Hallmark in Poway. Yes, I could buy cards at my local supermarket, but I really like the large card selection at Elam's, and the staff is so friendly, and always makes me feel welcome. Two years ago, after living in Poway for 35 years, I moved to Rancho Bernardo, yet I still drive to Poway to shop at Elam's on Poway Road...it is worth the trip for me. Besides the large selection of greeting cards, many times when I am tired of looking for a last minute small gift for a friend, I stop into Elam's and usually find what just I need. When I'm in San Diego I usually stop by this Hallmark location, because I can't go to Hallmark stores in Los Angeles County (they have been rapidly disappearing in LA within the last year). I like going to Hallmark stores not just for the cards, but because they have cute gifts that look nice and thoughtful but aren't too expensive. This location has a good selection of gifts from Itty Bittys to trinket trays and light decor, scarves, and larger plush. I do wish they carried Pusheen as some of the Hallmark stores do. For graduations, I have found this Hallmark (and other Hallmark stores) to be the ONLY place to find a reasonably nice plush with a graduation cap and tassel! How strange that it's very hard to find a good quality plush like this, if you can find it at all. The store was started over 30 years ago and is privately owned by the Elam family, so it's great to support a local mom-and-pop store. read more

Went in there on June 16th. The two ladies who were standing at the counter did not smile or say hello, they simply stared at me and my baby. We looked for a card. They had a huge selection of cards, not many gender neutral children's cards though. I was going to a two year old girl's birthday. The choices were either princess or cars/trucks. When checking out, still not a word other than to tell me "$5.71." I smiled but still got an expression of indifference from the cashier. I was hoping to spend more money here, potentially supporting a local franchise, but I'll go to Walmart next time. UPDATE: the owner is the one voting the negative comments "funny." Edit: A relative of mine went there not too long ago and told me the same thing happened to her. That's another customer Elam's lost. I guess some people just can't separate politics from business. I love a political discussion as much as anyone, but when you start bashing on the other side so much that you make your customers feel uncomfortable, then you've gone too far. It's just unprofessional to engage in political debate in your business. People must think everyone thinks the same way they do. Hallmark, if you want to do business with conservatives only, then maybe you should put up a sign that independents and progressives are not allowed. Walked in this afternoon. Two women behind the counter did not even acknowledge my presence. When I went to check out, I tried to engage the younger women (who appeared to be in training) in conversation. She just gave me a dirty look. She was definitely learning the ropes from the older sour-faced woman who was training her. Honestly don't think it is worth it to pay $5 to $6 per card just for the Hallmark logo and get treated like this. So many other places to get greeting cards. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS HALLMARK STORE!!!!! I was politely telling the employees how the coupon world has changed, then the all-knowing manager starts telling me that I was harassing them. OMG. What an idiot! (They won't take email, text coupons. ONLY paper.) I left without making a purchase. Something tells me this store won't be in business for ever. Their customers are dying off. Don't they get it??? If you want me to print something out before you'll honor a discount, then stop advertising on Get1Free where you can email, print and text coupons to anyone. Went into the store today to purchase the Snow Many Memories animated figure set. My excitement to make this purchase was ruined by the lack of good customer service. I didn't get her name but she was an older woman with short gray hair and a gray sweater on. Her first words were "crown rewards?" no smile, no hi or hello. She asked the question a bit aggressively and just stared at me with brows raised until I realized that she was waiting for me to tell her my phone number. The figurines I was buying have moving parts so I asked her if she could pick them up from the bottom instead of the top as she'd done with a couple of them already. At that time she proceeded to roll her eyes at me. She did begin to pick them up by the bottom but then began putting them down roughly on top of a box that held other parts to the set. So rough that I heard a smashing noise of the box. She did not offer to wrap the figurines in tissue. I had to ask. I even offered to help wrap them because there was a line forming. When I offered she snapped at me saying "I will do it! Because I can't give you paper." I was not asking for paper at all. My husband was very upset by the way she treated us as well. He is from the south and recognized this type of behavior quickly. If she cannot treat ALL customers with respect she should not work in customer service. read more

Don't bring in your toddlers. I held my son for 5 mins before finding a gift purchase. I put him down so I could pay and he started running around front diplay. The cashier said this wasn't a store for kids. Then she proceeded to tell him, "didn't you know this store isn't for kids?" Got it. (That's why I was holding him but had to put him down for a minute while I paid them my money) Won't be going back until he's not a kid....or not. read more

I go to this store often but always leave wondering why I return. They are never friendly and keep working with out a hello even when they are in the same isle. Never a greeting. Never a friendly face. Both times i went in recently the cashier asked if I wanted a gold crown for my card and both times it was not in the bag when i got home. A sticker is absolutely no big deal but customer service is. read more
