I just witnessed something so unprofessional.Normally, I dont think much about these things but this as so out of line in my opinion.I was in line to pay for my groceries and the cashier was having a very loud argument with someone on her phone via FaceTime while she was ringing people up very aggresively. When I say that everyone could hear her, the whole market could here her conversation.She proceeds to yell at this person on the phone while she is slowing everyone down in the line by making people wait for their change at the side of the counter. As she is ringing up this mother and daughter, she hangs up the phone on the person and throws the phone across her counter and screams at them that it isn't funny, simply because they were smiling at her. The two were so embarrassed they got quiet and left. I dont understand why this behavior is tolerated in this supermarket but it shouldn't be. The manager should have some words with this person. Tip for the shopper: if you see a cashier that looks angry or looks like they hate life, DON'T go into that line. read more

I come to this market every so often when my partner brings his mother shopping. Im always excited to go to see the different foods and sweets from the Persian culture. It's a very small niche market and always busy. The parking is ok and more than likely you will get a place to park. The reason I give it 3 stars isn't due to the service as the employees are usually very nice but the customers here are very rude. They don't care about if you're in a certain area trying to shop they will bulldoze you down if you're not careful. Im not sure if it's cultural or because most customers are a bit older, but every time I've entered this store it's the same thing each time. Not sure if I will go back again. read more

Everyone has an attitude there. The kosher food is good quality but service isn't. Not being kosher I only go there because their selection of dried fruits and nuts is fantastic. It's like a store within a store that you pay at that the counter. I love the Akbari Pistachios. Their dried fruits are second to none. Overall the store is not clean the staff is gruff to rude (as are many of the patrons) I don't relish shopping there. read more

The biggest Pro: - great selection of Kosher groceries, cookware utensils, hair care, and much more. The biggest Con: -Parking is a hassle. I've been here many times before and still haven't review this place. I used to work a few miles away from Elat Market and know this area pretty good. Parking can be a hassle since this area is always so busy. There are many bakeries, restaurants and stores on the same side of the street. It's also really busy inside the market (people literally push you out of of their way with their shopping cart). If you must shop here, I suggest come early on a Sunday morning. That will make your shopping experience much smoother. read more

What kind of market is this? Kosher and Persian What's it next to? It is next to another Kosher market called Glatt Market (1 stop shopping). It is across the street from Shalom Pizza. Is it large or small? Medium sized. Not huge but not too small either. The aisles are narrow though. Parking? Best place to park is metered parking on the street if you can find it. Special Items? Yes, lots. A whole selection of Golchin and Sadaf products. Persian ice cream, Persian cookies, mixes for Gormeh Sabzi, lavash and barberri bread etc. Basically many Persian items as well as kosher items. They also have Israeli items. They got hummus both plain and in different flavors and matboucha. Oh they also have ready made food to go. They had a beautiful kuku sabzi (Persian herb omelette) in their deli section. Produce was also beautiful and big! Prices? Fairly priced. Anything missing? So, while this market shines on the Sephardic Jewish items, the Ashkenazi items are not as prevalent. Think Manishevitz only for drinking and not really too much of their other products. Overall This is a good market. I would suggest it! read more

This store has a lot of Middle Eastern food at great prices that you don't find at grocery stores. Workers are friendly. The freshness and price ofcthe Walnut, nut and dates is amazing. The store is closed on Saturdays but call before you go. Sometimes I've gone there and the store is closed on other days!! read more

Update. I was there recently. After spending $69 the bagger put everything in 3 bags soo full it was obviously wrong. She made one of my bags 32 lbs. I asked her to rebag. She said you can carry with one finger. The management was sitting right there. I complained and was treated as if I was wrong. They we're very nasty. Prices are higher but that's everywhere. But I'm obviously a senior. I think we customers are entitled to some courtesy? im not going back for awhile. I'll go to Glatt now. They're always nice. read more

The service here is abominable. I called in asking about pricing on metal skewers (as I live quite far, which I mentioned to the man behind the phone) and I was told, "the price doesn't make a difference - we have different sizes..." with such insolence that I felt the need to explain. My response was that there is of course a difference but the man began rambling incoherently and I quickly ended the call, realizing there was no use in continuing, as he had no intention of answering my simple question. It is of no surprise to read about others having had similar experiences. Their manners are horrendous. How disgraceful to run a business with such incivility and zilch professionalism. I ended up going to a couple other stores in the area, including Tehran Market in Santa Monica and was delightfully refreshed. read more

I like this place. The clientele is middle eastern, so personal space is non-existent. Expect to have a traffic jam of shopping carts and one personal injury cart accident....and one PI attorney handing you his card. Not the markets fault. It's to be expected. Products are great and largely unique to the market. It's a Persian market, so if it's Persian and you need it, they got it. They offer gold fish for new years and kosher meat. What more can you want. Maybe better parking, but that might be wishful thinking. Recommend it and appreciate it for what it is :) read more

Elat Market is right next to Glatt Market and they each have separate small parking lots in back. Make sure to tell the attendant you are going to the appropriate place. Even with these two lots, parking is not easy. But the saffron pistachio ice cream and juice is worth it. read more

Some of the best Kosher places here to get produce and meats are number 1. We stopped at Elat market a few weeks ago. I purchase some meats and vegetables since i am on a deep diet. Pork, beef, and chicken is good here. i purchased some ready made hummus with Falafal bread and chicken. Place is pretty reasonable in price. Owners are cool and staff. The main reason I come here is out of necessity and it is very conveniently close to me. I understand it is a Persian Jewish market, but that is no reason to mistreat any non-Jewish shoppers, especially a visible Muslim such as myself. It never fails, every single time I come here there is someone who is giving me a glare or I do not receive good customer service. Come on guys, it's 2019 in Los Angeles, please put your politics aside and learn to treat everyone with respect and kindness regardless of your differences with them. Aside from that, I do have to hand it to them as they have great quality Middle Eastern ingredients I need for my cooking. The parking is terrible, they have less than 10 spaces for their customers in the back. Also, sometimes they do not adhere to their listed business hours so make sure you call before going to make sure they're open. read more

This is the only grocery store I have been to where I am stolen from each and every time I or any of my family members have been in. The charges on my receipt have never ever, not once, matched the sticker price on my items. From my picture you can see this time I was charged $4.99 for a $2.99 item. I'm ok with any price they want to charge but I'm not ok with being stolen from. This has happened so many times in all the years I've been to this market that it's apparent that it's not a mistake. If it were an accident it wouldn't happen every time I go shopping or to multiple people in a household. They especially love to charge for sweet lemons when I buy lemons. Over the years I've let it go but this was my last time in. Service from the Persian owners is completely uncomfortable!!! I've tried asking where they keep particular items and they yell at me or roll their eyes like I should know where to go or go on a hunt on my own. Items on the shelves are covered in dust, some items are expired and the produce section has fruit flies. Though, I suppose fruit flies are expected in a store such as this one. I mainly come to Elat for bargain prices on fruits and vegetables, particularly lemons, which are a steal here compared to other markets (sometimes as low as 70 cents a pound). The freshness of produce can vary, leafy greens are pretty much intended to consume the same day or within two days. Most of the time the fresh herbs are amazing, and can last a bit longer than the greens...it depends. I especially love buying fresh mint here. All of the herbs are very inexpensive (large bundles under 70 cents). Roaming the isles, you can explore a plethora of ethnic produce, including exotic teas, rose water that is actually infused with rose oil, "Persian" ice cream, and lots of baked goods, breads, dips, and spreads. Elat is also my favorite place to buy feta cheese made from goat milk, it's very rich and flavorful, much better than what I've purchased from commercial markets. The most challenging part of coming here, for me, was getting use to the aggressiveness of the shoppers. Initially, I got pushed out of the way, and bulldozed by scowling little ladies quite a bit. But after a few years of coming here, I've learned how to steer clear, or at least not take offense. When I first started coming here, I received A LOT of stares, but it seems the diversity of this market has picked up a tiny bit, and the regulars have gotten use to seeing a few foreign faces, Lol. Overall, I'd say it's a nice market to come to if you want to experience something different, you might end of grabbing a few things you've never heard of and concocting your own exotic meal. read more

Sometimes I go into a grocery store and think, gee, why can't this be like a game of rugby? I envision grabbing a grapefruit off the shelf and barrelling down the aisle, knocking grocery carts and cans of various vegetables and processed meats out of the way as I go, finally slam dunking that citrus smack onto the conveyor belt and proclaiming, "Eat that, suckas!" And then that vision becomes a reality every time I go to Elat Market. This place is nutso. I've never had an old lady run me down and elbow me in the face all for the sake of a head of iceberg or a few tomatoes until I came here. I used to get offended, like "Who ARE these people? Were they never taught manners?" Despite Elat's unbelievably cheap prices on produce (the regular groceries are standard price), I always left there as if someone had just slapped my mother: jaw unhinged and shaking my head. Then one day it hit me: If you can't beat 'em, join em. That afternoon I strapped up, put my shopping helmet on, and went in for the kill, elbowing my way right back on the hunt for my own damn tomatoes. End result? A grocery cart full of goods for less than $10, and a feeling of triumph. I could finally survive local grocery shopping, and do it with a smile on my face - nay, even a little flexed muscle. While I did breathe a sigh of relief when Glatt reopened next door (same great produce prices, better selection, and no market rugby!), this place does have character. And some damn good fresh feta cheese. And sometimes, that alone is worth the fight. read more

Bruised, beaten, but satisfied! Elat is a beautiful port resort city in south Israel with hot days and cool beaches. Elat Market? It's a jungle. There aren't any snakes in trees, lions or tigers. No, it's worse than that. It has aggressive elderly mostly Jewish women shoppers who bring their war skills to shop for groceries. It starts in the parking lot. Because neighbors have complained of all the horn honking/swearing while fighting for a parking space, they post a sign that says, "Don't Honk Your Horn", They had to hire a security guy in the parking lot to ease some battles Somehow, I found a space in the pay municipal lot across the street. Once you walk in, prepare for a crowded, loud, intense, and interesting shopping experience. If you get a cart, put something in it because if it's empty, turn your back and an old lady will steal it. Catch her in the act, and she walks away mumbling something in Hebrew like, "up yours". There are lots of Jewish and Middle Eastern specialty food items, video tapes, newspapers, etc. Long time customers tell me in many ways, it reminds them of markets in Israel. There is a very busy deli and meat market if you're in the market for Halal or Kosher goods. They have some great looking pastries, too. I came in only for their legendary good and cheap produce. That feature makes non Jews - like me - rush in and check it out. An employee told me they get produce every day at the LA Produce District. I got a mini watermelon for 99 cents each.and two honeydew for the same price. I wanted a bunch of other stuff but (don't laugh) I couldn't find a cart. They were all being used. The oranges, bananas, and lettuce were cheap. Everyone else was going through the produce and it was crowded. Pushing and shoving is an art. My butt was bumped by a shopping cart 5 times just walking 25 feet to get to the cashiers. I was bruised, beaten, but satisfied, and I'll come back. Maybe with padding on my fanny. The busiest day is Thursday since they are closed Saturdays (Sabbath) and Friday is a close second. No hardhat is needed, but bring plenty of patience and aggressiveness. If you're a classy, polite, reticent shopper, though don't come here, unless you can't resist. read more
