The time has come for me to review this gem of a spot in La Crescenta which can be a little too family friendly at times. There's nothing better than SoCal weather, a cold brewski, and good vibes, all the things this place offers. Staff- genuine and attentive Beer- cold Food- simple and tasty Vibes- very chill, dog friendly I'd been here a few times before COVID, their seating space was a little snug but still wonderful vibes. Since restaurants were able to extend into the streets, this place has become even more popular amongst the locals. Their seating doubled in size and the atmosphere is just as lovely because you're on Honolulu, full of trees and always decorated for the seasons with string lights. We wanted to grab a couple drinks and saw that Thee Elbow Room was open! - Seating; They offer outdoor seating on the patio as well as on the street. On the street, they blocked off the parking spots and have seats/tables placed 6 feet away from reach other. There are bar menus on the table, as well as menus for the next door kebab place, so it looks like a collaboration which is awesome. I actually loved the setup and felt completely safe. There aren't a lot of seats, so We sat ourselves and the server knew right away that we were new customers. :) - Masks: Employees wore masks (ours had a mask and a face shield). Guests wore masks until they sat down. Everyone was far away enough so I didn't feel unsafe. I also observed that they wiped down the tables once (and even twice for some tables just in case) between every seating/new guest. - Dogs: Dogs were on the premises outside. Thee Elbow Room is a hidden gem in Montrose, CA! I used to frequent this location as a child when it was a coffee shop and have really fond memories. It's exciting to enjoy the same space with an upgraded adult vibe. The beer flight is a steal and a great introduction to all the wonderful beer they have on tap! I was excited to drink one of my favorite IPA's from Ninkasi Brewing Co in Eugene, OR. The Dawn of the Red is an easy IPA to enjoy. I sampled the Belgian tripel - it was spicy, citrusy, and strong! My brother-in-law likes this place and told me that I had to try it. I don't drink beer, so this is not a review of the beer. Since we are in the middle of a pandemic, it is difficult to truly make any statements on the service. I will say that the waitress was very nice and she was the only one managing the front of house. I will make the assumption that the back of house is run by one person as well. In other words, service was very slow and for a table of three people, no one was served their meal at the same time. I feel sorry for the waitress because she was trying really hard and was doing a lot of work trying to attend the bar, bus tables, and serve food. She gets a five star rating because even though there was a lot, she managed to maintain a smile. The food was OK. My brother got the sausage platter and he seemed fairly content with the sausages. He was not that pleased with the coleslaw/sauerkraut (I don't know which it was) that accompanied the plate. I did try it and it was very dry, hardly any seasoning, and only had the remnants of vinegar. These aspects are what made it difficult to judge exactly what side they were aiming for. I got the special of the smoked chicken sandwich. This sandwich was extremely wet. There was a apple-jicama coleslaw that was very wet and very sweet. The pickled red onions were also mostly sweet - seemed like there was too much sugar in their pickling process. Both of these made the sandwich mostly read as sweet and made it a little cloying to finish. At the same time, it gave it a really nice crunch, which made this sandwich fit all textural elements of a sandwich to perfection. My favorite part of it that was done extremely well was the smoked chicken. It was moist, had a nice char on the outside, and you could really taste the smoke. The chicken deserves a true bravo. If the coleslaw, or the red onions were adjusted to reduce some of the sweet and add more acidity, as well as a little heat, it would be a perfect sandwich. While I do need to try this place again - my sister says the main reason to come here is for the pretzel which they were out of - it will not be my new favorite bar. read more

This is thee best bar in the whole of SO CAL dudes! The range of beers Is vast and ever changing. The food is exceptionally good for such a low price. There's a cool bar where you can meet the friendly owner, Cristal and try out any beer before you commit to a purchase. They always bring a water bowl out for Porky when we go and we always have ordered the Roasted Beet & Goat Cheese Salad. This is where I learned to love that combination. A good beer in a chilled glass. That's one thing you won't be served here. Everything comes in a single-use plastic cup. Our food could have been tasty, it was hard to tell since every time we tried to take a bite the prongs on our rinky dink tiny little plastic fork would bend. Nice little spot in the heart of Montrose. Perfect for relaxing outside on a beautiful Sunday afternoon during lockdown 2.0. Two ladies were doing a great job running the place, checking in on us frequently and keeping the customers happy. We dropped by here after dinner on St. Patrick's Day and were very glad we did. Thee Elbow Room is a really fun place with great staff. For a small place, they have a really large beer list with several choices on draft. I had a Belgian White that the bartender dyed green for St. Patty's Day (which I thought was a really fun idea). We tried this local bar for the first time and we kinda liked it. They have a decent selection of mostly domestic beers which is not a problem but for some reason I had a feeling that this is a German place and was expecting to see more imported or German beers. Not a huge deal as their domestic beers are also good and are from local breweries vs mainstream brands. It was around 9pm on a Monday when my husband and I arrived and only 2-3 other tables were occupied which was good for Monday. We were not too hungry so we ordered a pimento grilled cheese to share and two beers. The beers were served quickly and the food arrived shortly after that. The grilled cheese consists of Mozzarella, sharp cheddar & house-made pimento cheese on a sourdough. It tasted good but the side of salad (spring mix greens + dressing) was not appetizing at all! The greens were old hence semi slimy which was a huge turn-off. Maybe we should have ordered their popular pretzel instead but we are not a big fan of pretzel or having a huge starch with our beer in general. Our waitress was OK, she seemed tired and a little checked-out already maybe because it was close to closing time. I liked that music was not too loud so you could feel and enjoy surrounding neighborhood and relax. Cool little place in the Montrose shopping district. A friend always talks about Thee Elbow Room gastro pub so after dinner, I decided to give it a try. Great selection of draft beers for such a small quaint place. What a perfect way to spend a Friday night- sitting on the outside patio having a flight of dark beers! I think my favorites were the "Mammoth" and "Stout" followed by "Deez nutz" and the Red Ale. Not only do they offer a good selection of drafts but they also have a vast selection of bottles. I believe they also offer some food. I know they have appetizers but I think they also have meals as well. Service is fast and friendly. The owner has a welcoming smile for all her customers... as do all the employees. There is street parking on Honolulu Ave, additional parking in the alley behind or on Wickham to the east. Plus, the trivia nights here on Wednesdays are not only a lot of fun, but they draw a good crowd, and my girlfriend and I have had great fun stopping by on our date nights. If you have a larger party, be aware that this gastropub does not have much space. There are really just a few tables that sit more than 4 people. The majority of the seating is outside, which lends itself nicely to warm summer nights. Prices here are fair, and the parking is a cinch. Came in for a quick bite. Almost missed the place, it is so tiny. The food, though... wow. I had a bavarian pretzel with beer cheese (dip? sauce? whatever, it was bomb) and mustard. The girl behind the counter asked if I wanted a $4 pretzel, so I was thinking it would be an "auntie anne's" sized deal... I was wrong... The thing was a monster! It was bigger than the 10" plate it was sitting on, going over all the edges! I had also ordered the tuna melt, on the bartender's suggestion. It came with a salad. The tuna melt was delicious. I had a hard time finishing it because of the pretzel, though. I ate around 2:30pm, and stayed full for the rest of the night.
