I used to live in Montrose and I can't believe that I've never eaten here. Parking is such a pleasure in Montrose because there are plenty of free lots. I didn't realize that Joselito's had parking in the back. Good to know for future reference. I attended a seminar which was held upstairs. As I was about to go upstairs, I noticed that there were quite a few seats downstairs. Upstairs also had quite a few. Service was good and quick. Got my water quick and refills came frequently. I highly recommend the horchata. I ordered the Chile Rellano which came with rice and beans. Ate every bite. I wish I got the burrito though when I saw how humongous it was. The chips and salsa were very good as well. Definitely got a refill on that. The restroom was located downstairs. Only two stalls. Clean. Will definitely come back. read more

It's mostly good due to the ambience. The server was friendly and attentive. The food was not great at all. We waited about 35 minutes for our food and by the time we received it, it was cold. We ate what we could in 10 minutes because we pretty quickly decided the food wasn't tasty at all. This is definitely not quality Mexican food. Such a fun atmosphere when you walk in! Very family friendly and great for groups. We came here for a fundraiser and the staff was awesome! I only ordered a margarita and shared queso and cheese quesadillas and they were good snacks. I will definitely come back with the whole family and sample some more items. We picked up a phone order for 4 people on a recent Friday evening from Joselito's and were all really content with what we had. It was the first time for all of us and being that we were in the area to pick up desserts, this turned out to be the right move. They are busy, always. You get a more than generous portion at their prices. Prepare to eat. I ordered a beef chimichanga ($17.25) and that's essentially a crisped up beef burrito with your of choice rice or beans, I chose shredded beef over chicken or carnitas. The chimichanga is topped with melted cheese and their red sauce. It's accompanied with pico de gallo & guacamole. The chimichanga was delicious, the beef tasted like it was simmered in seasoned spices. I liked it a lot especially with the slight crisp of the tortilla. I would get it again for sure. Other entrees that were ordered and enjoyed by our group were: enchiladas suizas ($18.25) in which you get 2 chicken stuffed enchiladas in their green sauce with sour cream & cheese. This comes with refried beans & rice. Burrito lito ($17.25) and weighs in at over 1 pound. Shredded beef or chicken and comes with the usuals (beans, lettuce, tomatoes & sour cream. This massive burrito comes wet and is topped with red enchilada sauce and cheese. Grilled halibut ($30.95) in garlic butter. This comes with rice & vegetables. We also got tortilla chips ($4.50) for medium & salsa ($3.95) as extra sides. We all liked our orders and wouldnt hesitate to order from them again. The lady & I hope to dine-in soon. Montrose is such a charming area, I hadn't been in many years. It's a quick drive on the 2 from where I live in Atwater Village. As for parking, I suggest parking in the 3-hour lot nearby. I had no issues. For a ladies' lunch meet, on my friend's recommendation, we sat outside, the weather was perfect (I mistakenly didn't go inside to find her already there, but inside looks cute old school Mexican restaurant style, with cozy booths). You do have to go through the kitchen area to go to the restrooms though, which were clean. There is a huge selection of food and so many looked enticing, but I went for the Mexican style stuffed potato skins. They were so good! Servings were generous. What a lovely and amazing experience! We were there for the first time, and wow, their food is huge! We were a group of seven with kids, and everyone had a blast with what they tried. I'm a bit late getting this review out, so I can't recall the names of the dishes we ordered, but we're definitely coming back. The food is really good! The staff is nice, and you don't have to wait too long for your food. The place isn't too small, but it could get a bit crowded, especially on the night we were there. Parking might be a bit tricky, but there are plenty of spots on the street or a short walk from the main parking area. Also, something I noticed is that people seem to know each other from other tables? Isn't that a bit strange? Haha! I'm a bit weird, but it feels like they're neighbors who just happen to meet there, or maybe they're regulars who keep coming back. Tried a new spot, they had BOGO enchilada plate on uber eats. Both plates were packed fully with rice, beans, 1 enchilada. They also included a bag of chips + salsa. One good thing is that parking is never an issue between the free parking lots and street parking. - chili verde: I love this dish. My boyfriend and I enjoyed our dinner here. It was a first time and we walked in and were seated. The place was fairly busy too. I really enjoyed my enchiladas with mole on top. The beef was good, but the chicken one was outstanding. Tasty refried beans too. I got two meals out of it. My boyfriend enjoyed his fajitas, and from where I was seated they looked and smelled really good too. My husband was craving Mexican food. Our optician recommended this restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside watching the people and dogs walk by. Today, the city had an event of some sort, so there were even horse carriage rides and mini horses that were passing by. They started out with complimentary tortilla chips with salsa. As we were eating, I heard passersby state that they loved the salsa at this restaurant. I liked their salsa. I ordered the Taquitos with guacamole and sour cream. The Taquitos were crispy with juicy shredded beef, and it was not greasy. I loved the guacamole. I also ordered a Chile Relleno that was filled with a mild chili and a generous amount of cheese. Came here for dinner after a softball game, and i thought it was great. I ordered a burrito especial with Chile Verde, and it was fantastic! hot, flavorful, and big! Really good. I also ordered a margarita, but it did seem to have too much sugar, and not enough alcohol. I'm pretty sure that they are premade and just poured in the glass. For $16, that was a reduction of one star. Next time, I'll need to get a 'skinny spicy margarita with not agave." Basically, its tequila, jalapenos and ice. That's the winner. Service was fantastic. We had a group of 9, and the guy even gave us each individual checks. That was very impressive and made it much easier for everyone at the table. We've been here 3 times over the last 2 years and though the food is good the service on all 3 occasions, which is friendly, is so slow you could be here 2 hours for a simple lunch for two. We've tried dinner 2 times and decided to try lunch on our last and final attempt. My wife said maybe it's been long enough we give it a go one more time and once again the mere appearance of service to the table is just not there. They always ask, how is everything and in regard to the food it's great, but in regard to requesting or ordering items is like watching paint dry. C'est la vie. read more

This is a split rating. My friend would give Joselito's Montrose a full 5 stars, I give it a 3. Same day, same place, same table, and our experience is vastly different. Starting with what works. The overall ambiance and the margaritas. It's getting to be very rare that you can find a place that really goes into creating a vibe. Once very common, most mexican food eating spots are nothing more than an indoor taco truck with a few chairs. Joselito's harkens back to the 60's/70's dining experience where it's a relaxing get-away from the hustle and bussle of the city outside. The Cadillac Margarita is a home run. Now, the food. My friend couldn't stop raving about the Zerappa's, whatever they are. It's an off menu item you can still order. The plate looked great, but being a gringo of Nowegian origin, he couldn't describe the dish other than chicken, steak, delicious. I made the mistake of trying to keep it simple and order a shredded beef taco and tamale combo. The tamale was okay. The taco was a mess. The crispy shell looks like they bake or air fry the shell rather than fry. The shredded beef was gross. I'm use to the shredded beef being stringy and slightly dry, the ends crisp from the taco being fried. This beef tasted like stew meat that had been sitting in the pot for a few weeks. While it looked like shredded beef, the mouth feel was of mush or paste. I was halfway through my tamale when it dawned on me that I had not been asked about my salad. Soup or salad comes with each combo. Calling our waiter over, I asked about my salad. I got the typical "Oh, yes sir, soup or salad?" Now, for those of you who might not get it, this is an old trick. It's a way for a place to improve their bottom line. They expect you to know what comes with the meal and you have to ask. Maybe it was an oversight, but I doubt it given how many two item combos they serve in a day. So, overall 4 points is more than fair. It's better than their overall 3.5 point rating. And if you do decide to go, hop over to Joselito's in Tujunga. It rates a full point better than Montrose. read more

I absolutely love coming to Joselitos Mexican Food. It's one of those places that truly feels like home every time you walk in. The food is always delicious and their Cadillac margaritas are easily the best margaritas in town.. dare I say LA haha What really makes this place special though is the incredible staff. Lalo, Javier, and Bobby always go above and beyond to make sure every visit is a great experience. They're attentive, welcoming and genuinely make you feel like you're part of the family. Gavin is also wonderful. He's always so sweet and takes the time to stop by and check in to make sure everything is perfect with our meal. I would visit every Friday after my afternoon hair appointment (lol); A delicious Margarita, the best bean/cheese vegi tostadas smothered in their awesome salsa, and chips of course. Did this every Friday for years, the waitstaff guys are remarkable. I've now moved and miss my habitual Friday "spoil me" time. It will become a habit; a good one! We checked out Joselito's recently and had a mostly good experience. I ordered the Fajitas Chupacabra and it was so much food--super filling and full of flavor. Definitely a generous portion, perfect for sharing or taking home leftovers. My husband got the asada tacos and really liked them--well-seasoned and tasty. We did start with the guac appetizer, and honestly, that was a letdown. It was tiny--less than the side of guac you'd get at Chipotle--and definitely not worth the price. I was suggested by a "friend" to try out Joselito's and we are friends no more, the food was lacking in flavor. The carne asada salad was just a salad with one piece of meat and all greens, and it was soggy which was most likely our fault for ordering delivery so I would advise against ordering a tostada for delivery . The combination was not even a success, how can beans and rice have no flavor from a Mexican restaurant??
