Still only love the atmosphere, the service and the drinks here .... The happy hour menu was ok .... Too much chips in everything!

Honestly this place just knows how to do solid food. We came in twice during our visit to LA and both times did not disappoint. Atmosphere is a great level of charming while still modern. They have nice decor on both sides of the establishment and a lively bar that see's strong use. I prefer the booths myself but all seating is solid. The service is probably what surprised me the most. It's incredibly fast for the type of food and what I would typically come to expect from this type of sit down restaurant. It's extremely quick service. From food to drinks it all comes out of the kitchen with great pace which impressed me. Now to the food, I think all around it's high quality and tasty. First time around I got the chicken pasta and second time the club sandwich. Both were tasty and delicious. The ingredients taste fresh and the portions are large. All in all I don't think you can go wrong with many of the options. Definitely a place I'd head back to!

HAPPY HOUR details. Also noticed the "Asian Owned Business" and Health Dept. "A" rating signs.

dineLA menu at $35/person for 3 courses First visit during this summer's dineLA week. First thing I noticed was that the parking in front is extremely tight. There's some additional parking in the rear, and a few spaces on the street, but can be tough. Also, the WiFi was very spotty. Gigi waited on us and the service was good. It was a super busy night, and the staff were really hustling. We started with a couple cocktails/mocktails which were well-made. The three of us ordered off the dineLA menu, and the appetizers and entrees were very good. Gigi did a great job making sure that the various courses didn't come out on top of each other. Unfortunately, they were out of the Warm Butter Cake, however it was substituted with a delicious Italian Lemon Cake. I have a feeling that The Proper is a lively, locals place with good vibes and tasty drinks/eats. They offer a daily Happy Hour from 4-6pm, Martini Mondays, Taco Tuesdays, and Wine Wednesdays. Definitely worth a return visit to check out more of their menu (and the Warm Butter Cake!)

Came during dine LA week so they had some fun specials. I had the braised short rib (was a smaller portion with the dine LA menu) but it was so good. They also had some fun drinks, a little pricier than a typical cocktail bar. The service was great.

What an amazing find in our trip out to Flintridge La Canada! The Proper Restaurant is a beautiful restaurant bar. We caught happy hour. Everything we ordered was fantastic. Our server was very kind and provided us great options for food and drinks. Shrimp Tacos, Braised Beef Tacos, Deviled Eggs and Hibiscus Margarita. Highly recommend!

Other than the chips being stale, everything else about my meal was really yummy. I ordered the shrimp tacos which came with a delicious chicken tortilla soup. I like the ambiance of the place a lot and was shocked I hadn't noticed this place earlier. It's tucked away, but I think that's what makes it special. The interior sort of reminded me of Catcher in the Rye in studio city with its library style effect.

The shrimp tacos are DELICIOUS. A must try. This place has daily happy hour deals that includes food and drinks. Our waitress was super friendly, attentive, and proactive. She new I was going to order another drink and brought over a second one as soon as she noticed I was done with the first. Love the decor. Not a loud place but not quiet. Family friendly. Parking was easy and we didn't have to wait for a seat. We went in a Sunday at 5pm.

I love the vibe of this place. We went here for cocktails on a Friday night and sat at the bar and it was the perfect way to unwind after a long week. The bartender was great and made our drinks just the way we like it. Definitely a great spot for date night. The restaurant is also super cute and would definitely come back to try their menu.

I loved the atmosphere in here! It's like we're dining in a library. I really loved the service too. I decided to share an entree with my boyfriend and the kitchen was kind enough to split it for us. So what you see in the picture is my portion of the entree and my boyfriend was the same. That stuck with me because I don't think I've experienced another restaurant that does that for you. The most I usually get is they give extra plates to share. The pasta was delicious as well as the wine, so I would love to come back here again!

    White Sangria

This was more expensive and upscale than I was expecting, but it was a pleasant experience. The staff was great and the decor was absolutely stunning. The hibiscus margarita and white sangria were very good. The presentation of the Scottish Salmon was messy, but the dish was great. That lemon butter...so good. There were many things on the menu I was deciding between, so I cannot wait to return and try something new!

I live pretty far away from here, but this is my go-to for dinner and/or drinks when I'm in the neighborhood. I love that it kind of feels vintage and classy yet really comfortable and friendly. They have one of the best espresso martinis I've ever had in my life, and I would consider myself a connoisseur. I wish I lived closer!

    Fries
    Michael F.

The burger it self was a pretty large one, I'd guess a half pound patty as it had a lot of heft. It had the usual burger toppings, cheese, tomato, pickles, lettuce and a mayo. Taste wise, it was kinda plain and dry. Perhaps it was a bit overcooked as I got it to go. It was hot and freshly cooked - just needed another flavored condiment. Perhaps a nice bright and bold yellow mustard would have done really nice on this. The fries were excellent! They were the battered style, which allowed them to hold up well and maintained a great crispy bite to them. These didn't need any sauce as the flavor from the seasoning and batter was in full effect.

This is a quasi fine dining restaurant. It's a bit casual but has some fine dining type dishes. We visited for the Dine LA experience. I love a good short rib and it was featured on the menu. I would have to say this was one of the best spots for Dine LA. They had a 3 course meal for $35. We went on wine Wednesday and enjoyed an $11 glass of white wine. The service was good, seems like there is one server on each side. Our waitress provided some good recommendations as well. I really liked the decor, it has a New England/Cape Cod vibe.

First off, it's a beautiful restaurant with Spanish touches throughout. There is seating inside and outside the restaurant in the courtyard. In the courtyard, there was a musician playing the guitar. Loved, LOVED his rendition of Hotel California. Really put me in a relaxing mood. The food here is unbelievably good with a few minor exceptions. Here is a run down of everything we had: -Patatas Bravas 5/5 stars. The roasted potatoes were delicious and the creamy sauce drizzled on top made it that much better. -Croquetas de Jamon y Pollo 4/5 stars. I remember it being tasty, but it wasn't as memorable as some of the other things I tried. -Gambas al Ajillo 5/5 stars. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and flavored. Even the bread, which tasted like sourdough, was fantastic. -Calamares Fritos 10/5 stars. No, that is not a typo. I usually avoid calamari like the plague since I'm not a fan of the taste. Here, however, I couldn't stop eating the calamari. I was popping them in my mouth like popcorn. There was something about the batter they used to coat the calamari. It had a satisfying crunch to it. Didn't even need the sauce it came with. -Prime Ribeye (prepared medium rare) 3/5 stars. The steak was okay. It was a bit undercooked and didn't have a nice crust on it. -Papitas Fritas: 10/5 stars. Once again, not a typo. The fries here were something special, which is saying a lot since fries are ubiquitous. The fries were delicately crispy and delicious. -Jamon Iberico Cebi de Campo with Manchego Cheese 4/5 stars. The Jamon Iberico was good, but not great. It had a slightly weird after taste that I usually don't get from high quality Jamon Iberico. -Tarta De Queso and Churros con Chocolate 3/5 stars. These were the only two items that I was truly disappointed with. There was nothing special about these dessert items. The churros were bland. -Cucumber Mint Cooler and Devil's Day Off 5/5 stars. Both of these drinks were refreshing. The Cucumber Mint Cooler, in case you're wondering, could best be described as a well executed, non-alcoholic cucumber mojito. The Devil's Day Off was a fizzy grapefruit and cinnamon delight. I have to end this review with the service. It was top notch. Our server, Robert, was not only extremely friendly, but helpful and informative. He walked us through the menu and talked us out of ordering certain items so that we wouldn't over order food or get items too similar to one another. At one point, we were debating whether to order the Churrasco a la Plancha (8 oz ribeye) or 12 oz ribeye. One person from our family wanted the fritas that only came with the Churrasco while another person (me) wanted the 12 oz ribeye. Robert resolved the disagreement by suggesting that we just order the 12 oz ribeye and they'll throw in the fritas for free (which they did). At the end of the meal, he made sure to point out that the gratuity had already been added to the bill and that there was no need to add a tip. We appreciated the heads up, otherwise we may not have noticed that. If it's not clear from my write up, I really enjoyed this place, despite a few items that missed the mark. If it wasn't so far away from where I live, I would have been back this weekend to try out more items from the menu.

This is the only steakhouse or restaurant I've found in LA County, that does a true prime-rib dip sandwich, their "Beefeater Dip". Not those things with paper thin slices of overcooked beef, although tasty not a true prime-rib sandwich. I went to college in San Francisco where Haufbrau's were a thing, sadly no more (No German food in sight other than chubby knackwurst) with rather a short selection of quality food served sort of buffet style. There was at least a half a dozen Haufbrau's serving roast turkey, prime rib, corned beef, ham, spaghetti etc. and a selection of sides, mashed and boiled potatoes, turkey dressing, veggie, etc. and great SF sourdough bread. They all had great "French Dip" sandwich's their signature dish, (because of the competition to outcompete) on amazing SF sourdough baguette with true Au Jus. They always had lines around the block particularly at lunch time. In 1971 you could get a hefty French dip, with two sides, mashed potatoes and turkey dressing with gravy and a Coke for 90 cents. Today $30.00 bucks at Tommy's Joynt 55 years later. . Now have lived long enough to tell my story, nothing changes. I can remember my mom telling me when she was high school in 1941, you could buy a hot dog, chips and a coke and entrance to a movie for .25 cents on Fridays, $13.25 without the movie today at Pinks, 84 years later. Just a side note Pink's makes one of the best hamburgers in LA. Go finger, indeed. . The point is, I'm spoiled. A French Dip isn't truly a French Dip unless the beef is thick sliced off a rib roast. Taylors French Dip is the real thing. If anyone knows of a good or better one please let me know. There are somewhat of, not too close, two second places, Tam O'shanters Atwater Village and at Chris & Pits, of the famous bbq sauce, in Downey and Bellflower, but not on par with Taylor's. Checkout Tommy's Joynt on Yelp in San Francisco for the feel of a Frisco Haufbrau, one of the last ones standing. It looks a mess, but in spite of that the food was great. Don't ever get the "Beefeater Dip," if you are not prepared to be unhappy with having anything less, which I guarantee will be your fate. The only thing I don't like about the restaurant is the awful lighting. I feel like I'm in a dungeon, everything feels like a shade of gray and dingy . A hang out for zombies, not flattering to the decor or skin. The place would look a whole nicer if they hired a quality professional lighting designer. It would really bring out the charm of the bygone era design. Plus it would increase their revenue. It's the one thing so many restaurants fail at, and they have no concept of what I'm talking about. But if hey could only see the difference, they'd understand. Wish I had taken a picture, next time.

Service is top-notch. Say hi to Maurice if you drop in! Perfect for a hangout spot with small group, or a complete squad. Music in the background is on point lighting, very relaxing... Have to come and check it out for yourself!

(Drank 03/28/26 SA @ 6:00pm): How famous was this bar in Glendale?…read more After a late-afternoon film at the nearby AMC The Americana At Brand 18, my friend and I walked around a bit and eventually found ourselves at The Famous Bar. With the seemingly ever-changing landscape along Brand Blvd. in downtown Glendale, this establishment has been around since 2012 (which I believe was the first and only time I came here). Primarily known for its inventive craft cocktails and a killer whiskey selection, it was a nice place to sneak away into before or after your main event... or, maybe this could be the place to spend an entire evening. Would this bar famously make an impression on me to remember to return in the future!? PURCHASE(S) Fremont Brewing Dark Star Double Oatmeal Imperial Stout Beer 8.00% ABV 16floz Draft ($6.00 HH; Reg. $9.00): Dark brown color, coffee oatmeal roasty aroma, medium body, chocolate coffee oatmeal roasty toasty flavor, mouthfeel smooth finish, and coffee oatmeal roasty toasty aftertaste. This was a really tasty brew and my favorite of the two! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=ad_C9YTJYF9lVr2FOEQLkg 12" Margherita Pizza ($20.00 HH; Reg. $26.00): A simple pizza with a somewhat thin crust that was kind of cardboardy, the flavor was rather pedestrian with chewy mozzarella although the basil was fragrant and fresh. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=kdkvUttCLmMOAGQ1nyp5tg Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. Danish Red Amber Lager Beer 5.50% ABV 16floz Draft ($5.00 HH; Reg. $8.00): Dark amber red color, malty allspice aroma, low body, malty sweet flavor, clean smooth finish, and malty sweet aftertaste. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=QQjsTWce5Lstcxj5PowrYw Steak Fries ($7.00 HH; Reg. $9.00): This was an impulse buy as something to pair with my second beer. A decent portion-sized snack, each spud stick was hot, steaming, and thick and came with a side of ketchup. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=GVoy0nzxFUL6rHWaxNdG7Q SERVICE We were warmly greeted by a sole young woman behind the bar who handed us a menu and directed us to sit anywhere. After a few minutes of reviewing the menu, we each placed our order at the bar, our drinks were delivered quickly while the food took mere minutes to arrive at the table. We had to approach the bar each time we ordered something, but any empty glasses and plates were collected at the table. Once we closed out our tabs, we were thanked for coming as we headed out into the night. Everything was chill and easy - thank you! PARKING (Varied; FREE this instance): I parked in the nearby original Glendale Galleria parking structure and simply walked over first to The Americana then to this place. Otherwise, there was limited parking along the main drag of Brand Blvd. and other surrounding side streets, the nearby Glendale Galleria II parking structure, The Americana parking structure that offered validation, numerous public transportation options, and rideshares - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A dark cavernous speakeasy-like place with open space, various tables and couches strewn about, and a large long somewhat decorative bar with an impressive whiskey selection displayed behind it. I appreciated the exposed brick walls which gave it that old-time feel with a few framed pictures hung on them. Minimal natural lighting came through the front doors and windows while minimal electric ceiling lights filled in rest. There was at least one projection TV where we watched the Dodgers game while music played in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=SomLKsk1KVcemeOCHGOZfg ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL It was nice to slip into The Famous Bar for the first time in over a decade, and if I found myself spending time in downtown Glendale again, I'd consider another visit. Sadly, I try to avoid the highly congested area as much as possible. I loved the fact that they had a daily happy hour (4pm-7pm) and late-night SU-TH happy hours (10:30pm-close), so there was always a deal to be found. The drinks were the main reason you came, while the food was just an add-on. The prices were elevated, but you had a good menu selection of libations (nice local craft beer list) to choose from. The customer service was easy, friendly, and straightforward. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $42.00 BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...
