We went back and were able to get a table around 4 pm with no wait. While the main dishes are typical tex-mex fare, the sides and the drinks make this place special. Their squash hash with butternut squash and pepitas is amazing. I could eat an entire bowl of it. Their black beans are also fantastic; they have great flavor but they don't make you feel heavy after eating it. The cocktails, including the mezcal ones, are delicious! Yum Yum Yum, I could have drank salsa-x straight from the bowl! In fact I would have preferred that from the drink that was recommended to me by our server. I was originally going to order a regular margarita but was talked into the tamarindo drink which tasted nothing like a tamarindo and more like margarita mix that went bad. For my appetizer I ordered the papas rellenos which are nothing like you'd expect. I was served medium sized fried cheese with a sweet dipping sauce. Went to this restaurant. Was told it would be a 15 min wait, was offered to sit at the bar, so I did. I wanted a beer anyways. Everyone else who was waiting got seated, except my party and I. We looked at the host and he did not acknowledge us. Everyone who came in was seated except my party, once again. I once again acknowledged the host and no answer. So I left. I'm sure everyone is raving about the food, but I'll never know because I never had the chance to get seated. read more

drove by and noticed they were doing a soft opening over the weekend so stopped by to try them out for dinner. the service and atmosphere were great. the salsa and chip sampler was amazing, all 5 salsas were really good but the spiciest one was definitely my favorite. me and my wife both ordered chicken enchiladas and they were very good. they came with rice and black beans which were delicious also and there was definitely enough food to leave with some leftovers for lunch! me and my wife will definitely return and will be seeing if our staff would like to do our next employee dinner there. read more

Great place evidenced by a 20 minute wait on a Sunday evening but worth it. The chips had the right heft to them. Not to thin and not greasy. The salsas were great. The entrees came out fast hot and flavorful. Plenty of options adobo pork and pollo with salsa verde both were delicious. It was difficult to choose so a return visit is on the books. They have a beverage that mixes horchata with cold brew coffee, and it's a definite must-order. My friend had the Chilaquiles Rojas and I had the Nomad plate. Both were excellent. A place built with heart and soul that flows into their food! Start with salsa sampler. Each is unique and the flavors packed into each one are amazing. From there, you really can't go wrong. The Suiza sauce is one of my faves and the shiny ribs were also a hit. Oh, and treat yourself to queso- because everyone needs more cheese in their life! Pleasantly surprised to find this gem finally open. We had heard great reviews from a local business and couldn't wait to try it for ourselves. We were not disappointed Both my husband and I had build your own breakfast tacos. The fried over easy eggs were cooked to perfection with a warm runny yolk. We each picked different ingredients including tasteful black beans, crispy bacon, delightful jack cheese and avocado. We tried the mild and the X salsa. The latter salsa was so delicious we bought 2 containers to take home. We will definitely come back again!!! read more

You could pour that over a shoe and I would eat it. I hope you find a way to bottle and sell it because I want it on EVERYTHING. I want to cook with it. Moving on! I had the crispy pork carnitas and it.was.fantastic. You want this. I had the squash and potatoes for my sides and everything was great and perfect. After discovering our previous choice only did Sunday brunch, we saw Eldorado's ratings. Crazy, because we've driven by hundreds of times but neither of us had heard of it. So... we arrived, complete party, and the [badass] manager readily seated us for Sunday dinner. Our server Christina promptly greeted us with salsa recommendations (definitely do the flight, all very unique flavors!!) and took drink orders. The margaritas are spot-frkn-on deLISH! Espolon traditional, prickly pear and watermelon, all perfectly mixed. Per recommendation, I ordered the carnitas. Lemme tell you, 'I'm accustomed to getting pork that looks pulled and belongs in a sandwich. Not this time--carnitas at Eldorado are crispy and insane tasty! Yes, I'd agree, best in Austin (and many other cities I've lived). Everyone else loves their entrees. The guacamole was so good, we ended getting two large bowls! This place is, simply put, amazing. They opened a couple weeks ago, and it is already one of my favorite places in Austin. The place is adorable, the staff are all friendly and attentive, and the food and drinks were perfection. There was a wait the night we went, so we posted up at the bar with some queso and drinks. The drinks were delicious - made with fresh squeezed juice - and the queso was sublime. When we got seated, we were treated to great service and some of the best food I have had in my life. We started with the shiny ribs, which were cooked to perfection and properly messy. My girlfriend had the Joel's Happy Plate, 2 cheese enchiladas hugging a beef enchilada. While I only had a few bites, I would easily rate these the best enchiladas I have had in Austin (coming from El Paso, I feel this is high praise). I ordered the Carnitas, which were perfect - moist with the proper amount of "crunch"  In short - this place is great. The ambiance was adorable, the staff (a lot of youngsters) were all exceedingly nice and attentive (there were some opening week problems, but for a place that has been packed to the gills since it opened, this is to be expected and was nothing at all out of the norm), and the food was delicious (the Scorpion salsa (which took 1st place in the Specialty Category at the Hot Sauce competition last weekend, by the way) will light you up - you have been warned) read more

El Dorado Cafe is a staple in our "going out rotation". I love the Sandinista cocktail (watermellon and ginger). I also love that they have some amazing vegan and vegetarian options on the menue. The house salad with the sesame arbol dressing simple and always perfect. I sometimes pair that with some black beans and mojo veggies for a light meal. Some places offer veggie options, but you can tell their heart's not in it. Not this place. They mean it. read more

We stopped by here while up north after a quick Yelp search for Mexican food. I have been on a quest to find good Tex-Mex/Mexican in Austin and find most places just "okay." Despite our names vanishing from the wait list, we waited less than the quoted time, received free queso, had excellent service, and super tasty dinner! The house and sangria margaritas were very good, and the suiza chicken enchiladas were also quite tasty. We were excited to try the Papas Rellenas having never had them before. Really good! Hands down the best plate of Mexican food I've had in Austin, and I've been here for 12 years. I had Rene's Awesome Enchiladas and I gotta say, WELL NAMED. The chips and homemade salsas are delicious, our waitress was incredibly friendly and helpful with suggestions, the owner stopped by to check in on us, and the desserts (Mexican cheesecake and lemon raspberry) were insanely good. I ate lunch at Eldorado Cafe this week. Was very impressed by the quality and taste of the food. They have 4-5 different designer salsas you can have with your chips. I chose the "Salsa X." It is some of the best mild smokey tasting salsa I have had. I highly recommend it. I had cheese enchiladas as my main course. They were outstanding as was the rice and beans. I wanted to but didn't try their cherry dessert made in a cast iron skillet. I will be back. read more

We decided that we wanted to try a new restaurant so I found this place on Yelp, checked out the menu and decided that we'd go here for dinner. They use an app "Resi" for reservations and I joined their waiting list so I thought. Arrived and they were completely booked and I was told that the app is very misleading and that there is no actual waiting list. I was clearly disappointed and told them so. The manager overheard and told the hostess that he would personally wait on us but that the only table available was outside and it was hot. We decided to take him up on his very kind offer. We sat down and they told us that a table opened up and we could sit inside. Yay! They have lots of vegetarian options, great margaritas, delicious food and incredible service. Everyone was super nice. Great experience and looking forward to my next visit. Highly recommend but please make sure you have a reservation!! read more

Big fan of the food, staff and neighborhood vibe. HOWEVER, last night we ordered takeout, including a to-go Margarita. Got home, ate food, husband drinks half his $15 Margarita. I ask him how it is. The Margarita was ONLY mix. He was so disappointed. He called the restaurant this morning to let them know about the experience. El Dorado apologized, said it was a mistake on the website and they would remove it from the website. There was no offer of making it right. No offer of a refund for the $15 fancy lime-ade. And no offer of a Margarita on the house when we order next time. I am still a fan! The food is too good. But that Marg and the way the situation was handled has left a bad taste in my mouth. I'd like to think my husband just talked to the wrong person...someone who did not seem to care about a regular customer's experience. read more
