As a group of friends, we are trying to expand from our normal rotation of restaurants and decided to try the new Hyde park location of Curra's. What a great decision! The food was delicious! Fresh, flavorful chips, yummy salsa and great guacamole. The ceviche was also so fresh and tasty. We ordered the margarita tower (suggest that you share among 2 or 3 people so they stay frozen) and loved them all. Absolutely best, hands-down was the spicy blackberry frozen margarita! I know the hype is around the avocado marg. It was fine, but the least fave of those we tried (lime, jalapeño, prickly pear, blackberry). We're so all over the place with Curra's, which we just can't quit because Julio's is always closed on Sundays! We've been in several times since our last review, and of those, only one experience was four stars. We really wish this place was more consistent with both service and food, but it's always a crapshoot how it's going to go. Our most recent experience was consistent with all the other three star ones that we've had. Things start strong and then peter out. We always get the happy hour guac and queso, which we all have come to love. The frozen and rocks margs would really benefit from fresh juices instead of the bottled syrup stuff, and they *really* need to work on getting drinks to the table BEFORE the apps! We waited, not for the first time, a sold 10-15 minutes for our drinks after chips and dips were already down. This most recent visit was similar to the last one in that our main dishes took wayyyyy too long to come out. Uncomfortably long. Annoyingly long. But that's not always the case because sometimes the food comes out in a normal amount of time--this is the issue with consistency! Our daughter ventured into enchilada territory this time, which she enjoyed, as did one of the adults. And another one got the garlic fish dish again. Honestly, all of the food was fine, but because we had filled up on all the apps waiting for Godot, ahem, we mean the food, we ate very little of our actual meals. Had the timing been better and had our server bothered to acknowledge the delay, we would have been somewhat appeased, but no. What an amazing dinner we had here for the first visit. We were seated quickly even though it was a busy Friday night. We had a part of 8. We were seated outside which was perfect with some nice music over the speakers. We started with drinks and wow! Friends got the margarita flight it was so awesome. The place was quite busy on a Saturday early evening. We opted to sit outside instead of waiting 10-15 minutes for a table inside. We came here for the frozen margarita flight and it was way more expensive than anticipated. $48/4 came out to $12 a drink which is not much of a deal. Next time, I'll order the drinks individually cause I really would like to try their horchata espresso martini next. In addition to the margarita flight that was shared between me and my friend, I also got the steak quesadillas as entree and it was absolutely delicious! Overall a really good experience although a bit expensive for Mexican food. I would definitely return but opted to sit indoors cause sitting outdoors in Austin during the summer is no bueno. read more

You know what I came here as my first place that I've been to since moving to Austin and it was no easy journey. I saw the margarita flights on Instagram so I was excited to finally have some time to just sit down, have a couple and talk to my best friend back home. My server made me feel like I was being annoying because I couldn't decide what flavors to pick from, I almost walked out and went somewhere else. I have served many people and I just could never fathom treating a customer the way he was treating me over margarita flavors. I don't know who I ended up speaking to in the end but I want to say thank you again to him because he turned my night around and he even bought me a margarita. I came in with 6 friends on Saturday night at 7 pm, fully expecting a long wait before being seated. But miraculously, we were seated after a mere 15ish minutes! That was great for many reasons, but especially because this restaurant does not have much of a waiting area. You kind of have to stand in the personal space of the folks seated at the bar. But hey, only for a short time. After we were seated, our server came by right away with chips and salsa. We also ordered some queso and guacamole to snack on while we selected our mains. For dinner, I ordered the tacos al pastor and my husband got the elote and ceviche. I thought my tacos were fine - not stand-out. My husband really enjoyed the elote. Now, the margaritas were top notch! I'd come back for apps and cocktails in a heartbeat. Fun, upbeat atmosphere and good service. The biggest drawback for me was how loud it was, as I found it a bit challenging for conversation. If you remember the "old Curras" menu, this menu has a lot more typical Mexican food items. Pro-tip: HH until 6 on house cocktails, but not the avocado margarita, as well as some bites like queso, guac, and ceviche. The Avocado Margarita is the best in town. Yes. Better than El Alma. I'm not a big drinker, but, Curra knows what it's doing when it makes cocktails. I had. Halloween special and it was served smoked. The margarita sampler is also so fun, per our guests! Cochinita Pibil, boom. Always a favorite! But of course, make sure to start with the Pato Mole tacos, the Nachos Yucatecos. Chef's kiss. Also -- shout out to the manager (who's name is escaping me right now). We were welcomed with a great energy and he made a point to check in on us and introduce us to the different salsas. I've been to Curra's a few times now and it's one of my top Mexican restaurants in town. Home of the avocado margarita, you gotta try it! And now you can choose 4 different margarita flavors to make your own instagrammable margarita tower. The flavors they offer are all delicious. My top 3 are the avocado, guava, and cucumber frozen margarita. They also have a variety of cocktails like horchata espresso martini and a smoked mezcal old fashioned. Now for the food, everything me and my friends have ordered has been bomb. The cochinita pibil is my favorite, but the al pastor enchiladas are a close second. Visited Curra's Hyde Park with a large group (~10 diners) and we had a great time! The service was spot-on and we were regularly attended to. My favorites from the meal were the queso and the pastor enchiladas. I could have eaten A LOT of that queso. The pastor enchiladas were so delicious and smothered in lots of sauce and cheese. I tried the avocado margarita (blended) and got it with chamoy. They added a good amount of chamoy, which I enjoyed. It truly tasted like a blended avocado smoothie. Great food and great service. We've always loved Curra's--especially for happy hour and events--and have even gotten to know some of the staff who warmly greet us when we visit. That's why it's so disappointing to share that our most recent experience really missed the mark. The food was excellent as always, and the drinks were great, but the service this time left a lot to be desired. While our bartender was polite, we repeatedly had to flag him down for basic things like water refills or to order another round. He walked past us multiple times without checking in or asking if we needed anything--even after our glasses were empty and we were clearly trying to get his attention. After waiting over 10 minutes without a single check-in, we gave up, paid, and left. We had been planning to order more food and drinks, but the lack of attention made us feel unwelcome. Hers was eggs with veggie chorizo and mine was eggs with bananas, which is better than it sounds. Black beans accompany both along with, in our case, piping hot corn tortillas. I also tried the coffee Oaxaca, which is coffee flavored with vanilla. It has been cutting something of an affectation for Mexican restaurants of a certain "caliber" do not offer regular coffee, but this flavored stuff. Free country and all that but I have to say I don't like vanilla flavored coffee, no or do I like agave sweetened coffee, so they are missing a sale. Went out to eat with a couple friends, and we saw this place recommended. We arrived just as happy hour was beginning, and we were seated immediately. The place was already filled with guest, but you could still have conversation without yelling. The customer service was great. We didn't feel like we were waiting too long between each visit. She was very helpful and explained the menu to us as it was our first visit. The drinks were really good and I think the happy hour prices were comparable as well. You could upgrade the queso for about $5 more to a medium, but I think the smaller one would've been more than enough. I wasn't a fan of the tacos. The rice and beans were pretty good. It's just something was missing from the tacos that made it underwhelming. I forgot to snag a photo of the before, but the meal came with 2 tacos and two sides. The food was also okay but nothing to write home about. Quick summary: table was sticky; long wait for food and the check; food was served on broken china; hidden upcharges. Not as good as it used to be. Food was okay-ish but not great and not as good as I'd remembered. The table we were seated at was covered in sticky margarita goo, like someone had spilled a drink across the table, and the empty glasses hadn't been bussed. We asked the waitress if someone could bus the table but no one ever came. Food was served on china with chips missing from it. The cochinita pibil was also served in a dish with 1 handle broken off. The tacos didn't come with sauce or salsa and were dry so we asked for salsa. It took 15 minutes for the little dish of salsa to arrive. $2 was also added to our bill for salsa. It's not like $2 broke the bank but it's weird that this wasn't communicated upfront and that there's an upcharge for condiments that typically come with the entree (we've ordered it before). Our water glasses were never refilled even though we asked. After we paid, as we were standing up, the waitress said, "oh those are empty!" Service is okay, some good and bad. They use stale chips for Chilaquilles, nothing exceptional. Al Pastor's is okay. They only have homemade corn tortillas, they were too chewy. Their Habanero salsa was too sweet... I guess to tame it down?! I think living in San Antonio has spoiled me. Just not as impressed as I use to be with the Curra menu. I will go again, try some of my older favorite dishes. I use to love their Tortilla soup, their chipotle sauce, and their Marisco soup. read more

I really enjoyed eating dinner here for the 1st time a few nights ago. I'm pretty picky with my margaritas but they were pretty good here! I ordered the blood orange and my boyfriend ordered the cucumber flavor. We also ordered the guacamole to share. It was good! I liked the chips that came with the salsa better than the ones that came with the guac. The staff was very attentive. Our waitress apologized for the "wait" but it was only like 2 minutes. She was very nice and helpful. I loved that this restaurant is big. We were able to walk-in and get a table right away.
