There's so much great Mexican food to be had in Austin and this is some of the very best I've had in over 20 years of living here. Our party of three had the Short Rib Salpicon, Enchiladas Suizas (chicken), and Guisos de la Casa (hongos - vegan). Sides varied and all were delicious. The salsa sampler is a must (the avocado salsa was a unanimous favorite). Cocktails were very good. It's a bustling little place with a cheerful atmosphere and extremely friendly staff. The best part were so many of both great vegetarian and vegan options. It's not easy to find unique and filling dishes for non-meat eaters and I really appreciate the accommodating menu. I'm a local neighborhood patron and I've been here several times, especially for breakfast. I absolutely love the food and service. The waitstaff was attentive, friendly and generally helpful. My only complaint is that the squash side dish on more recent occasions wasn't cooked enough, same with the three potato hash. When it's cooked right both are amazing:) I love their take on the more interior Mexican dishes, I'm more traditional Tex-Mex for enchiladas and prefer different sauces, more San Antonio style Chile con carne gravy like. They squeaked in with a 4-star for service! I personally won't be able to return because they don't have either of my tequila choices! I went with my staple - Suiza (Chicken) Enchiladas. They were good, nothing to write home about; but I'm an enchilada snob at this point. The rice and beans were just ok for me. Nontraditional overall, and I guess in this cuisine I'm a traditionalist! I did try a non-standard tequila...and highly recommend the mango margarita (towards the bottom of the menu, couple of flavor options). Tasty - if you like mango or worth a try if the other flavors appeal to you. It was a Sunday night - packed house of smiling faces. I really enjoyed people watching. WOW! As I look for new places to venture in Austin - I come across this gem based on the recommendation from Austin Monthly. Holy cow! This place has quite the Austin charm. It's small, quaint, yet, full of energy that screams deliciousness. We arrive to a 20 minute wait, so we sit at the bar with Adam (friendly, informative with a great smile) who can shake up a great Martini. He's also a wealth of information about Eldorado and why he enjoys working there. He will become a new friend by end of your visit. We get seated with drink in hand as Adam points to our table. He gives his recommendations and presents every salsa on the menu. He describes them like a pro. All we can say is YUMMY! I also mentioned this is a quaint place, so expect to be cozy with the table next to you and don't be surprised to strike endless conversation with a stranger. A visit from the owner, Joel at the table was a bonus. He talks about Eldorado with passion and is interested in your feedback. He's focused on serving his guests and may join you for a drink at the bar if you're lucky. Our meal arrived to our table, fast, hot and full of delicious flavor. Best Mexican food and service in Austin. Period!

This is (hands-down) my favorite restaurant in town. I would call it a hidden gem - tucked away as it is in a kind of random strip mall right beside Mopac - but clearly there are a ton of other people who love it as much as I do, since the place is always busy. It's well worth the wait, though, and I always come away happy. The food is generally wholesome, delicious, and always prompt. It's a great place to go to accommodate groups with disparate eating / food preferences (i.e. near-carnivores and vegans can both find something awesome), and they try hard to accommodate all sorts of diets. Beyond that, the place just radiates warmth and friendly neighborhood vibes - I regularly see the owners and veteran waiter-folks stopping by to chat with folks who come in regularly. Some tips: Las Calabasas is probably my favorite thing on the menu: delectably rich little pieces of squash happiness, with pepitas and basil to boot. (The other sides are also generally the bomb - you can't go wrong) The best salsa by far is Salsa X. Try the enchiladas with the mashed potatoes inside - forget what it's called, but it's awesome. I got off work early on a Friday and was excited to finally be able to take advantage of the good happy hour deals here. We arrived at about 5:40 and the hostess told us the wait was 50 mins. YIKES. Before 6?!? Luckily 2 seats at the bar opened up, so we decided to get our happy hour margs there and order food as well. I love that they have so many great vegetarian and even vegan options listed on the menu. And the food was fantastic. I love that you can go the traditional hot plate Tex-Mex route if you want to and get rice and beans, etc, or they also have lighter sides like roasted veggies or a side salad if you're feeling that. My one problem was the service at the bar. The bartenders were working their butts off, but there just weren't enough of them. They could have used another set of hands. We ended up not leaving until nearly 8pm because it was almost impossible to get one of the bartenders' attention to place our order/get our check/ etc. There was constantly a flow of people placing drink orders and the bartenders could barely keep up. So I definitely don't blame them, but it was still a pretty big bummer to have to sit there for 2+ hours. read more

Came in on a Sunday night and was seated immediately. The chips and salsa came immediately and the server was nice enough to let our table try a mild, medium and hot salsa for free. All 3 were good (I dont remember exactly what type was which). I went for Joel's Happy Plate, which I thought would be more substantial for 3 enchiladas. I ended up cleaning my plate and being slightly hungry still which was strange for a Tex-Mex place. The flavors of the dish were nice but not overly spicy. The black beans on the side were seasoned and garnished well, and the rice dish was nice too. The enchiladas themselves were solid but not spectacular, with the only remarkable thing being that the 1 beef enchilada was really well filled with beef for an enchilada. Overall a good tex-mex place and I would choose this over many other options in the area. read more

The white rice and black beans that accompanied the meals were not tasty. Rice was quite bland, it actually tasted like cardboard. The agua frescas were watered-down and definitely not worth $4 each.
