Greg gave us a very thorough tour of the facilities and was very professional in answering all our questions. Nice venue. Adequate parking. Some ADA spaces. Large lobby area. Retro vibe in building due to wood paneling, sconces and other lighting and window accents/shapes and vaulted ceiling. Only issue I see is that ADA restrooms aren't easily accessible. They are located in another building.

All of our kids love the campus and the teachers. The curriculum is challenging but the school is always finding new ways to make learning fun. VCS encourage family unity and there are many social events for families. We feel like VCS is our second home and we have made many friends there, friends that we actually like to hang out with outside of school. As a parent I am always worried if the curriculum isn't challenging enough so when other kids come to Village I ask the parents if their children find the work too easy or more challenging. I have yet to hear of one parent tell me it is easier than their previous school. The teachers and staff alike truly care about these kids and love God. It is evident the moment you set foot on campus. VCS promotes college at an early age and will guide your children through the entire process and hold their hand every step of the way. They focus on what the children like and what they want to study. VCS is a wonderful school and we are so thankful our children have the opportunity to attend.

I have been informed that the teacher has been yelling at students, including screaming very close to children's ears. This behavior is causing children to feel frightened and uncomfortable in the classroom. Most concerning to me is that my child is now becoming afraid to go to school and is scared of being in this teacher's class. I understand that teachers need to maintain classroom discipline and correct inappropriate behavior. However, I believe discipline should be handled in a calm, respectful, and age-appropriate manner. Young children should feel safe, supported, and comfortable at school--not afraid of their teacher. I respectfully ask the school to look into this situation promptly, speak with the students and teacher as appropriate, and take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that the classroom remains a safe and positive environment for the children. This is an elementary school, not a prison yard. The energy out there feels tense for no reason. There's a lot of yelling, finger-pointing, and attitude. Kids are small. Parents are just trying to pick them up. It doesn't need to feel so aggressive every day. A smile goes a long way. A calm tone goes a long way. Instead of acting like wardens, try creating a space that actually feels safe and welcoming for the kids. And this isn't just about pickup -- it feels like a bigger issue with how some staff carry themselves. Having a degree or a position doesn't mean people owe you anything. Respect goes both ways. Hopefully the principal takes a look at this and reminds the team: lead with patience, not pressure. These are children. The environment should reflect that. I have been an involved parent in my children's education: from working with the teachers and staff, helping with homework and also working as a volunteer and on the PTA Board. This is a amazing school with an extremely dedicated staff. They are exceptional educators as well as committed leaders. Guided by a principal that definitely "walks the walk" and is extremely involved and engaged. She attends every event and performance and spends hours speaking and working with the students. My children are lucky, they both enjoy learning and do well without a lot of extra guidance required. However, I have seen how these students and staff work with and support more challenged learners - first hand, and witnessed a culture of understanding and guidance with each students personal developmental issues. The staff work tirelessly with the exceptional programs of inclusion and acceptance ( from diversity clubs, to robotic, to journalism and especially an incredible, world class music program). It takes a "village" of parents and teachers to make these programs work and most of it all is done on their own FREE TIME. They don't ask for anything! It is their lunch time and after school time where most of this happens. There is a strong booster support as well as a dedicated PTA that helps cover some of the costs to enrich the experience. Knowing the principal, one of her greatest assets is her honesty with her students, parents and staff. When there is a mistake or problem, she does not dance around it: she confronts it head on and searches for solutions. No school is perfect. No kids are perfect. Heck, it is middle school... But, as a parent leaving Jordon and speaking to parents coming into the Jordon. I could not make a higher recommendation. My kids are leaving Jordon with incredible intellect and problem solving skills, a great friend base, of really nice kids and a huge dose of self-esteem. My kids have been in the Burbank district since kindergarten. While my son was in 8th grade here at…read moreDolores, he got his permit revoked 5 weeks before the school year ended. Burbank has a gang running through their schools who they protect, I came to the principal because about 8 Highschool gang members came to jump my son who was an 8th grader after school. The school never protected my son, when I came to the principal to discuss this matter, he claimed he knew who the gang is, in fact his friend coaches his daughters baseball team ( coach is from Elmwood). He said I'd made it worse for my son by coming to him. He said he'd do his best to look out for him after school. A few days later the district called and stated they are revoking his permit for getting in trouble and throwing trash every where at school which was completely made up. The principal even confirmed it never happened. The district lady also stated my son is doing drugs in the bathroom. Lying !!!! I was in disbelief, she said based on history of finding kids in the bathroom they are usually doing drugs. It says in the notes that he was kissing a girl in the bathroom, which led to this whole gang coming after him cause of said girl. She did the same to another kid who's always been in the district. The mom is still pursing a case against the district. Stay away from Burbank in general, especially middle and high school.
