had an absolutely wonderful experience getting my ear pierced with my sister yesterday at Electric Anvil. upon entering, you're greeted with the sounds of buzzing tattoo guns, beautiful hardwood floors and black leather tattoo chairs with works by the tattoo artists all over the walls. Electric Anvil had an extensive selection of different types jewelry and the pieces themselves weren't insanely overpriced like some other shops in the area. our piercer named Jose had a calm, professional demeanor, yet was very easy to speak to and gladly answered all our questions even going so far as to give advise on and check our other piercings we hadn't even had done there and gave us detailed aftercare directions (we had a few random questions about jewelry size, checked if some of our piercings were still open, etc). each piercing Jose did was quick and painless, which was largely in part due to his competence and experience. he was extremely cautious when prepping and piercing us, repeatedly changing his gloves throughout and re-sanitizing everything he used, touched or even looked at. while i felt bad he had to go through so many pairs of gloves, it was very reassuring to see he took our safety and the sanitation process seriously--especially for a first time visit. we both had a 3rd hole pierced on one ear and all together it came out to be about $70 each ($40 for the piercing and $30 for the jewelry). there wasn't a single thing i didn't like about the experience we had at Electric Anvil and i would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get a piercing! 11/10 read more

My microstud was sinking into the piercing hole and causing irritation and a little bump to start forming. Thomas completely botched my tattoo. He arrived late and hungover and even though I gave him a reference image he drew it on by hand. I told him it was asymmetrical and he said it was a "folksy design" and didn't offer to fix it. I wish I had just walked out and lost my deposit. I'm now in the process of getting it removed. I had a great experience with Josh Egnew! The tattoo I got from him was one I'd wanted for a very long time, but had a hard time finding an artist for because its positioning (a piano keyboard coiled around my arm) made it very difficult to execute. When the day came for my appointment, Josh was totally committed to making sure we liked how my tattoo was positioned, and actually spent three hours drawing the design out on my arm before he even began tattooing. Certain sections of the tattoo (especially my inner elbow) were very painful, but Josh consistently put me at ease. He was very personable and chatty, and totally communicative about how far along we were and what good stopping points would be if I decided I needed to tap out early. I did end up tapping out before the design was finished, and went back two weeks later for a quick second session. I love how my finished tattoo looks and would absolutely recommend Josh as an artist. I will say that his rate was not cheap, but if you're looking for an experienced tattooer with great technical skills then Josh is worth it. read more

A bit pricy but worth it for the work they do. Went to get my nose piercing fixed by a wonderful girl named Melissa Liu, she took great care of me. I gave two stars because the secretary in the front was snarky & condescending. I told her my nose ring had fell out so I ordered a new one from Amazon or Etsy I couldn't remember from where, I then told her I was in pain & needed immediate help. She replied "maybe don't order from Amazon" then rolled her eyes. Then she recommended I leave a nice tip after I got my piercing fixed... Don't be rude & expect a tip. read more

Now to the Electric Anvil artist, Chris Lockhart... LOVE HIM! He has the most chill, down to earth attitude, swag, whatever you call it, air about him. He is very through, listens and creative. I took my son for his first tat on his 18th B-day and the whole session went so easy. First of all, he did an awesome job on the stencil for the tat, had quite a few lines in it & he added his own flair to it. Took a little longer than expected but well worth the extra time. He is very creative and gets it when you explain what yo want, he makes that vision come true. My son so like it he went back to add on the the original tat and is now considering doing a sleeve or at least start working towards one! The spot is chill and very clean. So I found out about this place from a high school friend. Went there over the summer to get a price quote, not sure who I spoke to but they were really pleasant and well mannered. Fast forward four months later, I was set up with an appointment for Craig to do my work. P.S. This is my first tattoo so I'm excited and nervous. I was getting a Sankofa bird but it was a combination of two photos. Craig really paid attention to how I wanted the piece to come together and gave feedback for the best outcome which I appreciated. After sketching it out the price was $250 vs $350 over the summer. I didn't know my pain tolerance and he talked through ways to stay calm and to breath. I'm very satisfied with the outcome and definitely say I'll be coming back once I figure out how to up my pain tolerance. ( I want more art on my back) Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for quality work. I walked in to get my nostril pierced about a month ago and absolutely love it! Oren was so helpful and did an amazing job! There were other walk ins waiting to get pierced and I never felt rushed. I'm super happy with how it turned out. They also changed some old piercings that weren't healing to new jewelry, and both have improved dramatically. For my 30th birthday my BFFFFFF and I took an Über--from the Bronx--just to come to this beautiful tattoo parlor. It was August 18th, 2018: a hot & humid day...but thank God for Electric Anvil Tattoo's A/C. My best friend & I made our way to this particular tattoo shop because they had a "Get What You Get Tattoo" service. This particular service is the epitome of spontaneity. There's a gumball machine filled dozens of random sketches & drawings by the tattoo artists of Electric Anvil Tattoo. In order to get a sketch, you pay the shop $100 to get a token that enables you to spin the gumball machine wheel. Whatever comes out of that machine is the tattoo you get. However, if you do not like the tattoo you can just shrug your shoulders and leave, or pay another an additional $20 to get another coin to spin again. My best friend & I spun twice, so we had the choice of choosing between 4 tattoos, between the 2 of us. (Hint: The more friends you bring, the more variety & spins you get, as long as you pay, of course.) My BFFFFFF got a Sparrow & I got a Crane. (We're Bird Brothers now. Don't be jealous of our flock.) Our tattoo artist was Josh Arseneau and he does some phenomenal work. The craftsmanship and detail he put into my tattoo is impeccable! He absolutely slayed the work of my best friend's tattoo, as well. And he finished my beautiful Crane in less than 40 minutes! Josh is a god and this place is Mt. Olympus. In light of COVID, I wanted to leave a 5 star review for this place. I was having a lot of issues with an earring I had, and found Electric Anvil was the closest to my apartment. I stopped by and as someone who has been working the COVID response these last few months, I was very pleased to see the operational flow of the shop. I waited outside for a few minutes, Jose came out, I signed a form online, and went inside the shop. Jose then helped me pick two new piercings, and was super helpful the entire time. While I was there, he also swapped out the one piercing that had been giving me issues, and helped with another that I could not remove. Overall, I was in and out in about half an hour. Horrible because my tattoo HURT! LOL AMAZING shop!! I went in with my husband today on a whim. I've put off getting this tattoo for over a year! I have zero pain tolerance, zero tattoos and was extremely fearful. They were patient, hilarious, extremely clean and helpful. Josh did our tattoo. Josh explained the process to me, while putting out sterilized and new materials. He gets an individual one star because my husband has him on video laughing while I scream. First of all this shop is so amazing. Beautiful and super clean. Great location. Love the comfortable chair/beds while getting tattooed. I've gotten tattooed by Josh Egnew once before at Three Kings Tattoo. Once my regular guy moved I decided that I needed to go check out Josh at electric anvil. His work is incredible and such great detail. I've already got some new ideas we're going to work on. And because I love to collect work from different artist I've now starting seeing Jeremy Sutton. I came in a couple weeks ago to get a rose between my cleavage and Jeremy drew up the most beautiful rose and the detail is unreal. My experience with Electric Anvil is that its a GREAT place to get work done. I did do a little research and they do have positive reviews, but you still never know. So when I called and made an appt for a consultation, the person on the phone was courteous and professional. So I felt pretty good coming to the studio for a consultation. Once I got to the studio I was greeted and everyone was pretty chill and cool. Studio was clean, calm, creative and welcoming. I had an idea of what I wanted to do and when I met with Josh; he gave me some feedback and what he thought would be the best direction to go. He didn't give any attitude just positive creative feedback. That was great to hear! You don't often get that with creative people but Josh is one of the owners as well as a talented artist. So he is also a business man who understands customer service. I felt great getting my work done here. Just finished my first session and I am super happy on the outcome!! Clean lines, perfect shading and the cover up he did as part of my piece was superb ( you can't even tell something was there before) !!! I don't wanna say too much only because I feel It will make getting appointments in the future even harder. But Josh and the shop deserves it. I thought that was a little whack. Maybe they thought I was a novice or they were having a slow day? Got a tattoo here today and loved it! The pricing is fair and it was great that I was able to have a consultation and get it done same day. I've been wanting this one for a while and was in need of a new artist. My artist, Jason Monroe, was very receptive to what I wanted and offered great suggestions. He was able to achieve exactly what I wanted and it came out better than my original vision. The coloring is gorgeous, perfectly blended and the writing is perfect. As I was leaving, there was also someone there waiting to be tattooed by him specifically. He's an excellent artist and the vibe of the shop is great. Although the music is a little aggressive, they have light hearted banter and create a warming, welcoming, atmosphere. I've been visiting Electric Anvil for about a year now. I have 4 tattoos from them and can honestly say that I believe the shop to be among the very best out there. Jeremy and Josh, the founders, have such a genuine passion for what they do and such an uncommon level of skill and artistry and they have filled their shop with artists who share these qualities. The shop is clean, organized, and pleasant. The music is never so loud that it'll grate on you during long sessions. The atmosphere is relaxed and all of the guys are great. I have three pieces by Boxcar who has a light touch, a steady hand, and draws beautifully, I foresee more work by him in the future. His vibrant, and sometimes twisted take on American Traditional style was what first drew me to the shop and so far, he has dominated my visits there and is my go-to artist. Clean, crisp line work and bright, vibrant color. This past weekend I had a half sleeve done by Chris Lockhart. He has a beautiful and unique style that he has developed which I fell in love with shortly after he joined the shop. He spent two and a half hours freehanding the design on to me, (stencils don't work when you need this level of precision) then knocked it out in one session(a 6 hour day altogether). It was a wonderfully collaborative process from consultation through design and even decision making for final tweaks as we were tattooing. The end result is without a doubt the most custom to me tattoo that could exist. I can't speak from firsthand experience for the rest of the artists, but a good friend is 3 years deep into a massive, body-spanning back piece with Jason Monroe which is of exquisite quality, Jeremy and Josh's reputations need no further inflation, and their apprentice, Chris Burton tattooed another friend and does great work. It speaks well of the shop that their apprentice is better than some place's full time artists. Now then, price. These are exceptional artists charging what they are worth. They charge $200/hr, but do not charge for drawing time. If the needle isn't going, the clock isn't. The fact of the matter is this: A Good Tattoo is Not Cheap, a Cheap Tattoo is Not Good. Don't go to scratchers or shops that sell glass pipes and cheap piercing jewelry. A tattoo is an investment and by paying a skilled artist, you are buying something that, if care for properly, will look good for a lifetime. This ended up far longer than I intended, so: TL;DR: An amazing shop of great artists who do beautiful work. You'll pay well for it, but it will undoubtably be worth it. read more
