I'm a San Francisco resident and purchased a Govecs T3.6 from Electric Avenue Scooters to commute to work and drive around the city every day. Couldn't be happier with my purchase. First, about the scooter. I've had it for about 5 months and it runs great. Living and working in San Francisco, I wanted a scooter that could get up those steep hills. That's why I left the GenZe behind--just not powerful enough. The Govecs gets the job done. I also wanted a scooter that could keep up with traffic on major roads. And with the ability to go up to 50+mph, the Govecs gives me all the speed and safety I need. Note that the Govecs comes in several models, some more powerful than others. I went for the top of the line, the 3.6. But I think the 2.6 would also work in SF, with its top speed of 40+mph. The scooter has great stability and is very maneuverable; perfect to weave in and out of traffic. The Govecs has required very little maintenance so far. I pump the tires (with a bike pump) every now and then and tighten and adjust the mirrors; that's about it. The scooter is easy to plug in at home (regular home outlet) and delivers enough autonomy to cover my 15-mile roundtrip commute 5 or 6 times. I've actually never had the battery less than half full. Finally, the scooter is powerful enough to carry two people. While I ride it alone most of the time, I use it with my wife on the weekends to get around town, and it keeps up great. Second, about Electric Avenue. These guys have been terrific from start to finish. As a California-based buyer, I must say I was reluctant at first to purchase a scooter from out-of-state. But Electric Avenue is the only U.S. dealer for the Govecs, which was the scooter that fit my needs. I did my due diligence on the scooter ahead of time: I read the online reviews, I knew Govecs was a solid Germany-based company servicing commercial fleets in Paris (Cityscoot), Barcelona (Cooltra), and San Francisco (Scoot, model Cargo). And Mark and Audrey (the owners) went out of their way to answer all of my questions about the Govecs before the purchase and tailor the scooter to my needs. For example, they helped me find a topcase to fit on the back of the scooter, and they installed it before delivery. They were more than happy to speak on the phone and videoconference several times to show me the scooter and clear up final details. We arranged for the scooter to be delivered close to my home in San Francisco, which worked great. I registered the scooter at the DMV with no issue (pro tip: to avoid a late fee, head to DMV as soon as you sign the sales contract; don't wait until you receive the scooter and title). We also made arrangements for local maintenance. They work with a local consultant and dealerships if repairs are necessary. They are also planning on opening a store in San Francisco in the near future, so it's just a matter of time before we have a Govecs dealer nearby. Amazingly, for the initial tune up, they even FLEW TO SAN FRANCISCO to service my scooter at my home. All in all a great experience. Mark and Audrey are personable and helpful, their shop is inviting and they know how to support their customers. They need a proper workshop area, as they are doing an increasing amount of service work and the mechanics, though competent, have to work under crude conditions with poor lighting. I really should be giving them 5 stars on the value of the people, but with their well-earned success they are butting up against the limitations on their space, and I'm aware of how that can limit the quality of some service. read more

I have had two electric scooters. In both cases they were good scooters, But my dealings with electric Avenue had been confusing at best. That cute little couple that runs The place are peculiar at best and dishonest at worst. They have their own way of doing things and we'll tell you about their "procedures" (which is a code word for charges) after-the-fact. In one case they actually sold a scooter on consignment for me without bothering to see whether I would except the price! or the record I would have rejected it and only after i threatened to go to court did they work to resolve it. In another case their guy took my keys from me. And two days later is said if I did not come over to pick up my scooter they would "dispose" of it. The bottom line is this. You are buying a rather expensive item from these people. Perhaps I'm flaky or perhaps they are flaky. But you cannot get that expensive item serviced by anybody else in town. Last year we bought a beautiful scooter from them, had it shipped all the way to California, but about 6 months in, it developed an electrical problem that the manufacturer / factory could not seem to resolve. Multiple tries, still didn't get a part that worked with the bike. (None of which was the dealer's fault.) So, Mark and Audrey swapped the broken scooter with a brand new (more expensive) scooter of a different make / model. Even drove it on a trailer personally all the way to California to make sure everything was satisfactory. They literally went the extra 1000 miles to make sure I had a scooter. Our gas guzzling (99mpg--but not electric unfortunately!) Honda Metropolitan had been in storage for 5 years. Electric Ave was amazing in bringing it back to life. Even when we had a mishap on fully running correctly the first go round, Mark and Audrey were always very patient in explaining the work to be done and making everything right, even personally delivering our scooter on the final drop off. Had great experience taking their basic rider course! I was a complete novice and they were very accommodating!

I took the scooter and Motorcycle rider safety course in March, and it was fabulous. Choon was a fun, informative instructor, and I really enjoyed the course. The only thing I would warn others about is the fact that the driving portion of the class (5 hours each day) is in an uncovered parking lot, so you are totally exposed to the elements. It was hot and I got sunburned, even while wearing long sleeves and sunscreen. Not much you can do, but be prepared. read more

Just a cluster. Thank goodness we found someone that would repair it at no charge because it was a mess. I received the money refunded from my credit card company. I suggest you do the same and use a credit card company that will refund charges if the service isn't done correctly, They will fight you for it. I didn't buy my scooter from Electric Ave, but did attend their Basic Rider Course to get my class M license. The structure of the course was very well organized, and the instructor, Choon, was top notch! It was apparent he'd been not only riding for a long time, but also teaching. Everything ran on time, and was well laid out. Not only did I learn a ton, but now feel 100% confident in driving my scooter on the road, whereas I was a bit terrified when I began the course. My interactions with Mark and Audrey were limited, but they were professional and courteous when I did speak with them. I would definitely recommend Electric Ave Scooters for anyone looking to get their class M license, especially if they'll be driving a scooter. The class is geared to motorcycles (as structured by the DPS), but Electric Ave has plenty of scooters on hand to use for the course, and accommodates instruction for the scooter riders. I recently purchased an A2B Ferber 20" electric bike for riding around my home on River Road near Canyon Lake. I now have about 200 miles on the bike riding along the river. These guys are great. Mark and Audrey are super sweet and helpful. They helped me with my little Honda, and now are working on my Jmstar crazy scooter. Since I work in the Triangle, they usually work around my schedule, and meet me at work. How many mechanics of any kind do this? Their little store offers eats and drinks and good-for-you household items, along with scooter supplies and electric scooters for sale. Mark does maintenance work, and Audrey runs the store. I love chatting with them both while I get repairs and maintenance done. Mark always has good advice for keeping my scooter running and what to look out for. My only advice is that you call in ahead of time to see how busy they are. I've been coming here for about a year now, and they've gone from getting you in and out to having a weeks worth of scooters dumped on them in one day. But go on in anytime to check them out and shop around a little! read more

I took my Faraday to Electric Avenue to have some repairs done and the service was AMAZING. Mark and Audrey dealt with Faraday in getting parts and made sure to CC me on all emails to Faraday so I was informed on what was going on, and were incredibly nice. This review is long overdue. I bought my electric bike from them last year. Super helpful and friendly staff, you can NOT get better service elsewhere. After telling my needs they picked the perfect bike. They sale bikes comparable to a competitor for half the cost. I had a problem with my bike and they took a part off a brand new bike to replace it, on the spot because they wanted to make sure I was safe. No questions asked. No charge. They are amazing and you can not go anywhere else. They are the best. Also, provided all of the necessary paperwork to get my rebate from the government for buying my bike. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. I walked in there about 30 minutes ago only to be treated horribly, and from what I could tell, I was treated that way because I am brown. As I walked in, the salesgirl was talking animatedly to somebody (non-brown) and appeared friendly. I looked around the store and waited patiently for my turn to speak with her. When it came my turn, she kept looking around for other people to talk to, as if I didn't exist and in the middle of our conversation took off to speak with another person (obviously non-brown). The other guy even apologized and acknowledged that he did not want to interrupt my conversation with the salesgirl but she didn't seem to care. I was made to feel incredibly bad for being there. I left the store feeling awful and figured I should go home, take a shower and try to wash off some of the brown so I can perhaps be treated like a human being next time. Now, I understand its entirely possible that I was treated poorly for reasons other than my skin color but regardless, I was treated poorly. read more

Sending my scooter to Mark for repair was the worst customer service experience I have ever had. There was no secret about the fact that the scooter was quite old and did not run. I sent it in for an estimate, requesting some additional cosmetic details (light covers, etc) be replaced. The initial estimate was a reasonable $300, with an assurance that I would easily be able to sell the scooter for $2100. This should have been enough for me to take my scooter to another mechanic immediately. Even I knew this ancient scooter wasn't worth $2100 on a good day. This was the beginning of a long string of manipulative and misrepresentative phone calls I was to have with Mark. Phone call after phone call revealed even more wrong with the scooter; each time he called he had already done hundreds of dollars of billable work, so I was stuck with a huge bill and a scooter that STILL did not run. I was backed into a corner and felt as if I had no choice but to get the scooter up and running so I could attempt to sell it to make up the cost of the repair. Never did Mark tell me what the potential for the extent of the repair costs could be. In fact, each time he called I said, I cannot afford anymore - can you guarantee this is the extent of the repairs, to which he assured me yes it was the end of the repair costs, and then he kept reassuring me I could resell the scooter for soooo much money (although the number kept going down each time he fed me this stupid line). Well, he finally called one night to say the scooter was ready - hooray. LITERALLY ten minutes later, he called back to say that after a test drive they had JUST done, it would be around $800 for a new carburetor. I was very upset, as I could not afford this. I asked him for an explanation of why he never, over the 4 weeks he'd had my scooter, realized it needed a new carburetor (or why he only did a test drive after he called to say it was ready) and he started yelling at me repeatedly: "I told you that you probably needed a new carburetor, I told you the cost!" It was as if he was stuck in a stutter. I was unable to interject at all, so I finally had no choice but to hang up. His wife immediately called me back saying there must have been a misunderstanding. Seriously??? I was repeatedly lied to in order to keep my bike there. Had I EVER known the possible extent of the costs I would have just given it away. I would certainly not have authorized well over $1000 worth of work had I known it would come to that. I would REMEMBER if he had told me about an $800 carburetor repair. Further, I had maintained my cool throughout my whole conversation with Mark. His yelling was unprovoked and frightening, quite honestly. At any rate, after much back and forth with us being candid that we felt the whole process had been manipulative, they offered to attempt to rebuild the carburetor for free. If that didn't work I would have to choice to buy the $800 new one. I was clear with them that that was all they were authorized to do. Mark then told me that the only reason to fix up this scooter for nostalgia and it had no resale value. WOW - that was a change of tune from someone who had been working intimately with this thing now for a month by this point. I then said, "This puts me in a bad position financially because we do not have the money for this." To which Mark replied, "We don't have money either!" So THIS is the secret to why I was manipulated into leaving my scooter there for repair? They're broke and this is how they keep clients? That's how I understood it anyway. Fast forward to 3 MORE WEEKS and they finally call to say it's ready. They then told us the carburetor cost $180 which we had to pay to get the scooter back. We never authorized any paid work. We were told it was complimentary OR we would discuss buying a new carburetor. Whatever, I had to get this thing out of their hands. So we paid it. On our credit card. Fast forward again to one more week later. We've been driving the scooter minimally. Suddenly, one morning, it's spewing gas all over the driveway. I went ahead and opened the scooter up myself only to find that Mark had put a new fuel line on the scooter. However, it appears he put one on that was too small. The fuel line was split all the way down and had fallen off the gas tank. My assumption is that in order to widen the fuel line to fit it onto the spout coming out of the gas tank, my good friend Mark clipped it open, ultimately causing this huge mess. Well, after ordering the correct size off ebay for $2 I fixed it myself. So, I'm giving them one star because now the scooter runs again, but who knows what other lazy shortcuts I'll discover as time goes on. I apologize this is so long, but these reviews really help people avoid sick people like Mark. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere but their shop. read more

Electric Avenue Scooters Don't EVER use this business or their repairs.... I called and asked them if they could get my moped in and do some work on it to get it running again... They led me to believe that it would be a one day job, and went on to not keep me posted or updated on ANYTHING. Every two weeks i called for MORE BAD NEWS... They didn't even LOOK at my bike for like a week and a half, and a few more days before they EVEN ORDERED the parts... well mind you, it's been 2 freakin' months that they've had my scooter and I've lost my job due to this, and i've had a MISERABLE experience with this company. Well they told me they'd refund some of my money, and they called this morning to tell me that it's FINALLY DONE, after ordering the wrong parts and having me wait another 2 weeks for correct parts. I go to ask how much money they'll be refunding me, and the asshole Mark that owns this FINE establishment (total sarcasm) started YELLING AT ME ON THE PHONE, going "DON'T START WITH ME, DON'T START!" Very bad business. HORRIBLE customer service, and they don't know what the hell they're doing... Such an awful store, and I IMPLORE EVERYONE to find someone else. All in all, ive never had such an awful experience with customer service in my life. I wasn't expecting miracles, but i wasn't expecting to get yelled at by someone I'VE ALREADY PAID to do a job. read more

Cutting edge technology...friendly folks and a really cool location I must say! They even have a place to charge out front if you need a little more fuel for cruising around Austin. All went well, there was a slight hiccup in communication regarding amount of labor time, but after speaking w/ the owner we came to what I thought was a fair compromise. One of the most miserable customer service experiences I have ever had. I found Electric Avenue because I was looking for someone in town who services Ezip electric bikes. They do. I called to ask if they had a rear wheel/rim. Mine was bent due to an accident. I had already found the specific rim I needed online - I just thought I could save the time and shipping if I could find it in town. They (Electric Ave) told me the Ezip did not take a special rim - that any mountain bike rim would work and to just bring the bike by and they would replace it. We dropped off the bike on a Thursday. By the following Wednesday we still had not heard back so I called. They had not even looked at the bike and were surprised that we wanted it back so soon. Really!?!? My wife rode it to work every day, weather permitting. They said they would look at it the following day. (!) It turns out that it needed a special rim after all and they would have to order it. How on earth do they not know that the Ezip takes a special rear wheel/rim? That was two weeks ago. They finally called back to say it was ready. Yay! I took my lunch hour to go pick it up. But when I got there the rear wheel was flat. They asked if I could come back in an hour while they fixed it. No. I had to get back to work. I do not live or work in that area. Wasted trip. And the final cost of the repair was almost double what they quoted, and it was more than I spent on the whole bike to start with. Throughout the whole process the thing that really got me was just the sense that no one cared. The store is decent, as is their line of scooters. But dealing with them was like dealing with kids who might know a thing or two about bikes and decided to open a store, but have no clue about customer service or dealing with people. Based on most the other reviews I seem to be in the minority - and I hope so for the sake of their business. But for myself I will not be using them for anything again. read more

Mark fixed my GoPed scooter in August for a nominal fee. Here we are in March and she still runs so smooth! I was always impressed by this shop and by the expertise of Mark. Even though he does not normally work on GoPeds, he had mine fixed in hours after the part arrived from CA--brush motor. I would highly recommend Electric Avenue.
