Trek Bicycle on S. Lamar, just South of Lady Bird Lake formerly known as Town Lake, has superior service. Full stop! It has been a while since I have been in a store where every store associate is super helpful and go out of their way to extend next level service. When I was an avid cyclist, Trek Bicycle was known as Austin's most dependable and all-around bike shop with a wide range of cyclist customers. I went into Trek for a two-fold purpose: 1) buy new bike shoes and 2) inquire regarding the status of my bike tires that have been seating in the garage for years (new tires or new tubes). When you walk into the store, you are met with a sea of bicycles...every color and style imaginable. Fortunately, I do not need a new bicycle because mine is in good shape. So, first, I inquire about my tires. The repair specialist was so super helpful, and he assured me that my tires might be ok. He suggested bringing the tires into the bike shop so he could inspect them. Next, I headed over to the bike shoe area, which is small but importantly they were having a sale. I snagged some $120 bike shoes for $30...score!!! Also, the sales associate offered to order me some insoles since they were out in my size. Super kind... The store sells a wide range of Trek bikes, including road, mountain, hybrid, and electric models, along with associated accessories and gear. The sales associates are top notch - super knowledgeable and not high-pressure sales folks. Absolutely no pressure in sales and when you're spending $2k on a bicycle you want to feel like you're not being pressured to buy but being helped to purchase the right bike for you. Can't recommend the team here enough! Post purchase I came back in to get some adjustments and advice and the team was more than willing to take time to help adjust seat height and hood angle to get the right comfort fit. Purchased a new 2022 Trek Rail 9.7 from this store. The purchasing process was fairly good and my best experience was with McCay, that young man should be assistant store manager. I digress, my issues came with the service department when I needed to ride wrap my bike. I knew it was a lengthy process and was willing to do it myself but the service department ASSURED me they could do it no problems and it would look great! Upon picking the bike up after several days I discovered not only air bubbles everywhere but much worse. They butchered the job so bad the top portion of the frame required them to open up another kit (not supplied by me) and "Jerry rig" it to fit my bike! The gap there is well over 2-3" (normal is less than a 1/4"). Not only that my supplied ride wrap kit was gloss and the patch job they tried to secretly pawn off on me was a matte finish. Again, they never apologized about the job or the mistake. In fact they insisted that it wasn't that bad and it took a really long time. I asked to speak to the manager of the service department, who I noticed upon me picking up my bike slipping off into the back office (he knew and this is the integrity I reference later). The girl went back to request his assistance but he refused to come out and explain the situation. The only saving grace from an1 star review here is that the store manager came along and attempted to make it right with a 50% reduction of the install fee and offered to redo the job later since "it was their first time installing ride wrap". Astonishing, that they would insist on doing the job for me and that it would be perfect having NEVER done an install of ride wrap. Transparency would have been nice. The level of transparency, integrity, and ownership at this place deserves a 1 star review but like I said the store manager attempted to right the wrongs by the degenerates working in the service department. This looks like a good store to go to to buy a Trek bike. It is not a good store to go to to get parts (and possibly not a good place to get service, either.) The big bolt that clamps my bicycle seat to the post on my Trek 74 bike snapped in half and I went to this Trek store to get a replacement bolt. They had none and that was that -- no offer to order one. The parts guy suggested I go to a hardware store. I'll probably try a real bike shop tomorrow, like Eastside Pedal Pushers. read more

Arrived 5 minutes after closing on a Sunday. I needed a replacement for a single broken spoke. Geo, took a look at the spoke and proceeded to make an exact copy from their nifty spoke thread cutter. 15 minutes and 5 bucks later I was out the door and ready to complete my repair and get riding. Rating is for RENTAL customer service. E-Bikes are five star. We reserved bikes online, arrived promptly and waited with one other couple for 45 minutes. The store is huge, not busy and only a few employees. We waited and spoke to two employees to get us help at the rental counter. When he came, without apology, he outfitted us quickly with lock and travel bag. The new and clean equipment is what redeemed our rental experience and we had a good time on city bike trails but there wasn't enough time for a meal stop. Before we left the shop, we asked for some monetary reduction or extension of time on the 4 hr rental since we now had 3 hours to explore. He said the price online was for a "four hour window." I think if we knew that we would spend 45 minutes of our vacation waiting for someone to come to the rental booth, we would have chose another rental company. read more

We took one of our bicycles for a brake repair last month. They were quick to respond with a detailed instruction to drop-off and pick-up. They followed the COVID guideline and we felt very safe. We bought our Trek 7 years ago and they still run very well without any major repair. I'm sure this store is awesome and I got the one rotten apple of salesman. However, this is the worst, most uncomfortable bicycle I have ever rode. Me and my partner dropped almost 10K on 2 new street bikes. I have rode mine several times and had so much pain in my saddle, shoulders, hands and lower back that at times I want to throw this thing in front of a semi-truck. I went back to the store, found out the salesman was suppose to have "fit" me for the bike, yet did not for some unknown reason. The same salesman adjusted it on my second visit. I've tried riding several more times since then but it's even worse. I ran into a pro rider who told me I'm riding a man's bike and that's my problem....wow. Turns out my handle bars are to far apart, my stem is too long and my seat is a man's seat, therefore, too long and too narrow. I confirmed this "diagnosis" with google searches. We went back and the same salesman told me "no" that's not true. He adjusted it yet again and it's still awful to ride. I've asked many seasoned riders on several forums and they all agree, I have a man's bike, therefore, it's going to be a bad ride for that reason. I'm going to try and go back again....hopefully they will care this time, correct the issues and I will finally enjoy the ride. If so, I'll change my review. Wish me luck. read more

One of the main goals of this vacation trip to Austin was to catch a good ride (roadie) with Kelly Boy. Along with Kelly Girl, we always rode here in Phoenix, mountain bikes, road bikes, triathlons, etc. However, if that was going to happen, well, I'd need a bike. Kelly Boy has a good friend in Austin (Tom, who joined us on the ride) and he recommended Bicycle Sport Shop which was just minutes away from our VRBO in South Austin. I don't know what it is but there tends to be large egos in this sport, so much so that Bicycling Mag had a story about it, especially at the local shop level a couple of months ago. BSS crushed that myth, at least in the Austin area. This shop borders on perfection. I filled out the on-line form for a bike and as the site said, they would get back to me in 24 hours. Check, they did. They didn't have a Road Bike for me but did have a Specialized (brand) gravel bike (these are kind of hot right now). It's a cross road/gravel bike so I said sure, let's do it which really turned out to be in my favor. The bike was so much fun and they even accommodated my request for a Garmin mount so I could post my ride on Strava. This is a monster shop, fantastic selection of bikes, mostly Specialized (which I have two of at home), large rental area, used bike area (check it out for some great deals!) Lots of accessories, apparel, lights, etc. Maybe it's just Austin, maybe it's the shop, but everyone I came in contact here was first-class, warm, and friendly. Hell, I even bought a t-shirt to expand their brand into Phoenix. This place is the gold standard for bike shops. And even better, you can ride from the shop and be on the Lady Bird Lake trail in 60 seconds. Yes, that's right, you can be Gone in 60 seconds-maybe you should take your GoPro and make a movie? While visiting Austin, we were looking for a place to rent some bikes to take on the Ann and Roy Butler Trail, and saw the great reviews so tried them out. I can see why they have such great reviews. It's not just that this is a very large bike "super store" with lots of choices for bikes to buy and rent, but as soon as you step into the store, customer service is amazing. I first experienced the great service when calling in to see if they could rent bikes for the trail, and Adam explained everything in detail by phone. When we got there and walked into the large store, someone immediately saw that we looked a little lost and asked if we needed any help and when we said we wanted to rent, they personally walked us to the rental location (instead of just pointing the way) and made sure we were taken care of. Adam fit us with some great Trek bikes and helmets, and also showed us how we could get to the trail and spots along the way we may want to see. We had a great 10+ mile ride and really appreciate this place's help and great customer service in making it happen. I really recommend them, especially if you want to rent some great bikes to take on the Ann and Roy Butler Trail. We definitely will be back soon. read more

The first employee we encountered, a very young man, was unable to help us as he could not give us usable information about most of the products. We were about to leave discouraged, but luckily were approached by Oliver. We had narrowed our search down to 3 bikes and planned to get further information online, but he was able to quickly and thoroughly explain the pros and cons of each bike and help us make the best decision for our circumstances. As they were about to take their outdoor signs inside, they noticed us and told us to come on in any way. The only redeeming value of this shop is the team. Luckily when they got bought out, the same team stuck around. They have always been friendly and knowledgeable. Now for the bad. Ever since Trek bought them out, it has not been a shop worth going to. They have gotten rid of everything that made them unique and worth visiting. I took my bike in for repair and the said it would be 200. When i went to puck it up, they said it was 340. When i questioned the difference, they could not tell me. Would not meet me half way or credit me. They just said they would "do creative couponing" next time i go in. What does that even mean. I probably would not have cared about the price, but at least you could have warned me before increasing the charge without any explanation. I use to love this place. Once again this place is great! I sold my old bike via Facebook and decided to buy a road bike. My experience with this store is always so positive and informational! Environment: lots of parking especially since you're near downtown and everything is super clean/organized. Store is huge with lots of storage for you to pick up your bike on another day. Service: I was approached by a store clerk named Ryan, I believe he's 22? A young person and he was super knowledgeable on everything. Was super patient and was not pushy at all. I was also approached by another person (don't know his name) but he deals with the used preowned bikes on the back. He was also patient with me and knowledgeable. One weird thing is that I called the store asking to pay over the phone for a preowned bike but the sales person said it was not possible. However if you email the preowned person (I spoke with kristopher the pre owned manager), they will let you pay over the phone. So don't give up if one person says no! Overall I am sooo in loved with my new "preowned" cannondale synapse which was super cheap! I want to make it clear my review is on the sales portion of this business, and not the repair portion. My dealings with the repair portions have been great! For sales, it has been the most miserable experience! A talked on the phone for an hour with a salesperson and they said to come by the store to look at the 3 bikes he suggested. I went to the store and they made me sit outside for an hour texting before I was ultimately turned away because I did not fill out some quiz and know which 3 bikes the salesperson recommended. Asked for a manager and nothing changed. I went home and filled the quiz, and a few days later I got in touch with a "sales" person. He recommended a bike! Yes 1! I emailed back saying thank you and I would prefer to at least have a couple of options to compare. 3 days later after I emailed again saying guess not he replied. He said for me to go find one on the page. Great job man! Never have I felt like I was begging to give my money to someone like I have this company. I went in for clipless pedals . I receive no help from a sales person . The only help I got was from a service tech. And that was limited . The only sales person I saw was on the phone for about 10 minutes and never acknowledged me standing there . No " I'll be right with you " , or anything . This review is a long time coming as I took my rims in to another establishment, and remembered the experience. So, my bike had been outside for quite some time, and I knew it needed to be re-spoked. I went to the repair desk, and a technician came out to take a look. I told her the issue, and right away she broke a couple of the spokes out of the nipples. I honestly wasn't sure what to do. Then she tried to up sale me on new rims and tires as well. Yes, I knew I need new tires as well. Yes, my rims have seen better days, but I'm only going to be using them for a local commute at this point. They have seen thousands of miles of use in a real Mtn. biking experience in N. Georgia, N. You would think based on previous reviews that this shop is handling novice buyers' questions right, but that is not the case at all. They force you to do online inquiries which take over a day to respond. I walked over thirty minutes from my apartment to this store with the expectation that I would be able to buy a bike and ride it home, but unfortunately their staff refuse to come out and answer questions that would take less than ten seconds to answer. I was fully prepared to purchase a bike on my phone as they are only doing online ordering but I'm not going to buy a bike if I don't know which is the right size for me, and sadly the incompetent staff kept redirecting me back to the online inquiry that has over 24 hour response time even though I explained to them that I had walked to the store hoping to get a bike on the spot. Also if you think they have resorted to banning on-site sales questions because of COVID, think again because their staff regularly interacted with other customers while I was there. According to their web site, they can repair all bikes makes and models. So my son and I brought his bike in for repairs. The repairman looked at the bike and said " These repairs will cost more then the value of the bike...why don't you go to Yellow Bike Project." I felt his attitude was condescending and cocky. Yes, it isn't a Trek and he could not afford a $1,000 bike but it is all he has. So he requested it be repaired anyway as it needed new brakes and seat. Never called when it was ready so he called them. We went down there and again...why don't you go to Yellow Bike? BECAUSE THEY ARE IN EAST AUSTIN AND HAVE STRANGE HOURS THAT IS WHY!!! I drove all the way from north Austin down to the shop on Lamar and I'll never go to another Trek shop. My husband and I had an absolutely fabulous experience! We rented bikes for the MS 150 and Zac was extremely detailed and patient the whole time. He guided us to make sure his expert knowledge eased this challenge ahead. Zac then helped us with everything from shorts, to glasses, gloves, and the whole 9 yards. Yesterday, after exhaustive research, I purchased my first Trek road bike, in 20 years, a 2023 Domane SL 5, Gen 4, and everything that you would need for a first class experience. Since I now live in a beautiful place, Austin, Texas, where I can ride all year round, it was time to pick-up an activity, that I once loved. I called the Trek Austin, on Lamar location, and Rodrigo answered. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and just as the Trek site had indicated, they had the exact color and model that I wanted. Rodrigo offered to hold the bike, until I could get down there to purchase the bike. When I got there, Rodrigo used Trek's proprietary measuring device, to confirm that I had chosen the correct size. We selected all of the "stuff" I would need, for a turn-key purchase; The best Garmin Solar computer, radar tail light, and on and on, and I left, imagining that it would take hours for the bike to be ready to pickup. I was only home a short time, and Rodrigo called and told me it was ready. Everyone at the store was very friendly and amazing. You should call this store the Zilker Park store, as it is only blocks away. Obviously, this was an expensive purchase, and Rodrigo and staff made it an enjoyable, smooth, and very satisfying experience. I will not shop anywhere else. read more
