On the morning of 7/12/2026 I went on a bike ride from near their store on my (pedal) road bike from SB northwards on Coast Highway up to Encinitas where I noticed my wallet missing from a zippered pouch that opened up during the ride. Panic mode set in right away, so I looked on my return trip back and couldn't find it. Did the usual, by posting on Craigslist and Nextdoor. This morning I parked and walked the same route, and didn't find it. But on the way back I received a text on my LinkedIn account from Elias at San Diego Electric Bike that said he found it! I called them and it was confirmed, they had my wallet! Wow, what a relief..!! This is a prime example of HONESTY, something that needs to be commended. I left a small reward for Elias, and glad there are people like him around. That said, while my girlfriend has a (pedal) bike, she really isn't a cyclist, but I'm going to do my best to convince her to give an e-bike a try, so I'll see them if she agrees. Next day I rolled in, first impression is the place feels homey, got greeted immediately, and Craig made me feel like a long time friend. We started talking bikes all the while he is prepping my demo bike, you know it's a great place when 2 hours has passed and still talking about bikes and life in general. After the bike was set up, he started to set up this bike contraption (not sure what it's called) to measure a whole lotta stuff, think of it as you are buying a very very expensive suit and how they measure you, but ten times better because its for a bike, of course! Now, the best part is not one mention if bike cost or how much I can afford or what my budget is, Craig solely focused on bike fit and me having a bike that I will love for the rest of my life! So, I got a chance to get to know a few of the guys. Rob, who is a really chill swarthy young man in his early to mid twenties. This young man named Mark who was a extremely friendly young Mexican man who has moved on to becoming an Emt i believe. Any repair big or small they have completed ASAP, they're always professional and friendly to everyone who walks into those doors. And they are great with communication and calling. With my current Ebike, because the kabbit had a wiring issue and had a little fire, UNDER MY SEAT‍. I returned to Alan's because I knew id get a fair price for a decent bike. Sure enough Rob hooked me up with the Ava Big Sur, literally the first one they built out the box. I love this bike and I cant say enough good things. Well, there haven't been many problems but 3 big ones. This is to be expected because my bike is my transportation. So 365 this bike is on the road.​ first there was a wiring issue and the owner himself rewired my whole bike (2 year warranty FTW), then this time last year I was having throttle issues so we swapped that out for like 60 bucks, now its the controller which is funny because I told Rob I think the controller needs to be replaced with the throttle (you cant see me but im shaking my fist jk). All these repairs combined the big issue was the wait. If you could imagine suddenly youre walking 7 miles in the rain at 4am to work. But thats not their fault. Sadly they dont have the wearhouse from Indiana Jones so they dont have every part to every bike. I understand this is a long review, but I feel ppl only talk about when theyre mad. First, Dan is super-friendly, safety conscious and very affordable. I had shopped around and a friend recommended i check them out and after checking out the stock in the shop (by Bobby Riggs and SDA) I decided to support a local business. I had read a lot of reviews of people buying big box ebikes or online stuff and having nightmares Trying to fix stuff. Lo and behold, My son had an accident (he is fine, thankfully!) and Steve repaired it gratis today! (I couldnt believe they were open, let alone able to fix it on a Sunday!) It actually took longer to drive there than the fix. They were out of the part (steering wheel stem) and he pulled it off of another bike they had in stock! Never met Dan or Steve before this, but so impressed with speed and attention to detail. Btw, the stem did not break in the accident, but I stripped the part where you screw it in afterwards. Totally my fault. I am guessing if I had bought a big box brand, there would have been a cost and significant wait for this type of part/repair. Others can probably inform better there. My son asked me to make this post, he loves his bike, its got leather seats, super -comfy and he said its seems better made than a lot of the ones he sees at his school CCA.
