Brent couldn't have been more perfect. My sister and I (ages 74 and 70) rented bikes from Ride Cyclery last week. These bikes were hefty e-bikes, well maintained and each had a pack and water bottle holder behind. My sister hadn't ridden any kind of bike in 25 years. I have a ten speed bike at home but these bikes are like mini motor cycles. Brent, seeing our hesitations spent time with us both in the parking lot helping us get used to them. Because let me tell you the first turn out of the lot is onto D street a steep downhill ride to a light at a busy cross street! That was the hardest part of the ride. A four hour round trip to Cardiff cruising the back streets of Encinitas to the SRF Meditation gardens and then to the dedicated bike path along the fabulous coast. Lunch at the Pacific Coast Grill was divine and we cruised home on the multi use path we took back to base. Brent had prepared us well with a thorough review of the map and recommendations. gotta say, I came in for a tuneup and was really shocked at the pricing. it was double of what I expected. Ended up getting a mobile tuneup for far less and several of the items Ride recommended were not immediately necessary. only got one of the items done out of 6-7 things recommended, and bike is riding fine. Maybe if I was a tri guy and had a 10k bike, but for me it was too steep. read more

I'm shocked by so many positive reviews. We came to rent a bike at 3 pm - they close at 5pm. Nonetheless, we were told it takes 30 min to get a bike ready for rental, the bike has to be back 30 min before closing, and we had to pay the 2 hour minimum even though they were only willing to rent it for an hour! I stopped in to Ride this morning as my bike was having some issues, forcing me to limp home the last 10 miles of my ride. I was very pleasantly surprised to see that the shop is under new ownership / management. It's great to see Joe back in Encinitas. He knows his stuff and is very honest and trustworthy. When I stopped in Joe immediately stopped what he was working on in 15 minutes he had my problem resolved and I wad able to resume my ride. I will be taking my bike here for all future service work. Referred to them by my best friend for help with an indoor trainer, connected with Kevin. He was great, recommended a Saris Fluid 2 trainer that fit my budget and needs perfectly. Ordered and received in a couple of days, communication was excellent. Decided I needed the front tire block, the same deal had for me within a week. Next up is getting my bike tuned up, if you are in North San Diego County this is the shop to call! I live in Oceanside near Bonsall, these guys are totally worth the drive. Beware of un-needed repairs. Went in for a tune up. Was told I needed a new chain. I was surprised and skeptical, but said ok. Brought my old chain home and measured to find out it had very little wear and was in spec. Paid $40 to have tubeless tire sealant refreshed. That's fine, but discovered I can do it easily for a couple of bucks myself. Lesson - be knowledgeable and ask questions. Otherwise, they seem to provide quality service. read more

I was recently in Encinitas for a few days. I didn't feel like bringing my bike with me, and a friend in the industry recommended RIDE Cyclery as a good place to rent a road bike. They set me up with a carbon fiber Cannondale with Shimano 105 -- it was my first time in awhile riding a carbon bike. The staff was kind enough to set me up with necessities like a tube and Co2 inflator. They also took extra time to dial in the fit (best to do that with a torque wrench handy, especially with carbon frames and seatposts). They really went the extra mile because I thought I'd brought my own pedals. As it turned out, I took them off my bike back home, but forgot to pack them! The RIDE guys just happened to have a sweet of the same kind I use. They really bailed me out! They also recommended some routes, as did a few customers hanging out. Rental was $80 for 24 hours. A very good rental/shop experience. I'll rent from them next time I'm around. read more

As I write this review it's worth noting that I ride bikes a lot. I appreciate the expertise of an excellent bicycle shop and frankly it's a very important part of my life. However, even if I was just a casual rider, these points would be just as relevant. There's no shortage of bike shops in Southern California. And many are good. But Ride Cyclery stands alone for me as the absolutely best for a few reasons. And if any of these resonate with you I would encourage you to go there for yourself. Competency is key. I'm no engineer but I value well built bikes and I care even more about quality work. Adam is the best mechanic I've ever come across in all my years of riding. He shoots me straight and tells me the magnitude of any issues I'm facing. He is clear about his ability to fix a problem before replacing the problem. That transparency and knowledge is so important to a cyclist. I should also add that Max is an incredible resource for me at Ride as well. He often does a lot of my work for me, and gives me a free tutorial whenever I'm interested. Cost is second. There's a multitude of shops that seem to have a standard response to problems: we can replace it for $..... While I'm not opposed to paying for a new product, my confidence in Ride is much higher knowing their honesty is always at the forefront when considering an issue on my bike. The relationships I have at Ride is the third reason I work with them. Not only do I value the friendships I've built with Max, Adam and the rest of the team, but these guys also know me well enough to make great suggestions for my bike or my riding experience. When I come to Ride I thoroughly enjoy the conversations I'm having. But the byproduct of those relationships is I have very knowledgeable people consistently recommending I try something out that is likely to fit what I want or need. For these three reasons I encourage anyone who's beginning to ride or an advanced rider to check out Ride Cyclery. You'll be as impressed as I am. read more

Not friendly. Refused to change my tire because my chain had some rust on it... I had called down to insure they had time to change out a tire on a beach cruiser because I was a weekend. They said ya no problem. I have four kids and the plan was to take a ride down to San Elijo state beaches so I walked my bike down to their store. When the guy helping my me said I should change out the chain I simply said maybe next time. The guy said I will not replace the tire unless you buy a chain. I asked what the two had to do with each other. I looked at the other employees and they were just wide eyed. He said buy a chain or he would not change my tire. I am not sure why he acted like he did but we live near by and I let people know what kind of experience I had here... We just had an amazing experience at Hatch! Ride hooked me up on installing the rad wagon 4 tires it took rad power bikes 6 months to send me. I took my wheels in and they were installed straight away. A young man in the shop even talked me into installing the tire armor liners. The shop owner is a cool guy that has great customer service. I will definitely be coming back. read more

I came here for my first time because I had no idea how to put the cleats on my new cycling shoes. The team was amazing!! Went above and beyond to educate me on the different type of cleats there are, and then Chase went ahead and put the cleats onto my cycling shoes! The other guys that were there were very Down to earth as well!! I noticed that when another client came in, both of the guys quickly acknowledged the client, and one of the guys knew him by name! He even asked if he was there for the brake pad! Not alot of businesses have such great rapport with clients or remember the client's needs, but they did.
