Avoid this business at all costs. I think this is the first time in my life I take the time to write a bad review about a business, but I feel it's a civic duty -- not only did these guys stolen from me, they actually put my life in danger. This shop -- and especially the owner -- isn't just badly run, it's criminal. They overcharge, deliver dangerously poor workmanship, and treat customers with outright aggression. Here's my story: I'm on a long-distance bike trip from Vancouver, Canada all the way to Argentina. I had a brand new touring bike custom-built 60 days ago, and I've ridden over 2,000 miles on this piece of engineering excellence. Naturally, after that distance, some wear occurs. So I stopped in this town to have the chain replaced and the tires resealed with tubeless sealant. I booked a cheap hotel and an appointment at this bike shop, conveniently located a few steps away. The next morning, I went to pick up my bike -- and it was in worse shape than before. It hadn't even been tested. It made a horrible grinding noise with every pedal stroke. I argued that this was unacceptable, but both the owner and the mechanic -- who behaved like an aggressive gorilla -- immediately escalated the situation with threatening body language and verbal aggression. They shouted that my bike was junk and blamed everything on the bike itself. This is a purpose-built touring bike with a Surly frame and Shimano components -- respected brands that carried me safely across thousands of miles through the U.S. and Canada. Sadly, it didn't end there. It got much worse. Knowing I was dealing with complete amateurs, I decided to just pay for the chain and sealant and take the bike to a real bike shop to fix the grinding. But as soon as I got back to the hotel and leaned the bike against the wall near reception, the front tire exploded. Yes -- exploded. They had messed up the tubeless setup so badly that the pressure couldn't hold. If that had happened while I was riding, I could've been seriously injured or even killed. I brought the bike back to them, and what happened next was just as shocking: the owner told me that if I wanted the tire fixed immediately, I'd have to pay a $100 "jump the line" fee, plus $50 in service charges. And wait for it the owner just simply said and try to explain that this is normal since he see that kind of tire explosion all the time in the back of his shop, "especially when the bicycle are put under the sun" how stupid this guy is, there's no words for it. That was the final straw. Thankfully, I found Cadence Cyclery bikeshop just two miles south. They were incredible. They replaced the chain with a proper Shimano one (not the cheap no-name junk the other shop used), fixed the tubeless mess, and went above and beyond by giving the bike a full tune-up. You can check out my glowing review for them -- they earned it. I usually only write positive reviews. I don't waste time on losers. But Leucadia Cyclery deserves more than a bad review -- they deserve to be sued for endangering their customers' lives Be safe, start by avoiding that place for your bicycle needs. read more

I'm so glad that I read thoroughly through the reviews before making a decision to avoid this place completely. A person answered my Yelp inquiry via text proposing that I have my bike shipped there and then they would assemble it . Then quoted me the highest end price on assembley. When I very politely declined he lost his temper and was telling me good luck with the other bike shops assembling it properly, the bike you bought is a piece of shit basically is what he said. My wife and I had a very strange and unpleasant experience here recently. The original owners of this company served my wife very well for many years at the original location on Vulcan. But sadly, things have changed and not for the better. We were attempting to drop off two bikes for servicing and made the unfortunate mistake of parking in front of the business to do so for a few minutes. Well, one of the staff came outside to us and told us to move in a very aggressive and agitated manner. When I tried to explain that we were just dropping off the bikes he basically accused us of not complying with his directions and that we were too difficult to deal with. HIs final words basically told us to get lost! Yikes! This could have been handled in a more courteous manner but that was not to be the case that day. Our mistake for not seeing that some parking was offerer on the north side of the business but hey, we simply missed it. There was not need for him to be so rude and unpleasant. C'est la vie! They installed a new frame on my bike. Scratched it up when installing it and they didnt put the battery back on correctly. They at first refused to fix it which involved only a couple of screws. Best bike shop I have been to. They really take time to listen and figure out the problem for getting the repair done correctly. The price for parts and repair was exactly as quoted. They are a local shop run by people who have lived in leucadia for many years. So happy to have found an independent bike shop that is reliable and with great prices. They didn't show me the itemized receipt until after they charged my card. When I asked why the tune up didnt include "installation" they said that is how they do it and they charge $15 per accessory no matter the cost of accessory or ease of installation. In my opinion, they took advantage of my lack of knowledge about bikes and charged for unnecessary things. In summary, I would stick to El Camino Bike Shop. The owner seemed like a cool guy. Dropped my old bike. Was having problems shifting. Maybe it needed more that I could pay for? I don't have a big budget. He told me I could spend 1000 bucks to get it racing conditions but then asked how much I wanna spend. I told them I'm just trying to get around town. I had trouble shifting. but they did change some parts but they didn't put the chain thru the derailleur. My chain sags too much. When I picked it up some other guy was there and I payed 230 bucks and I can't even ride my bike. I don't ride an expensive newer bike. probably not worth their time. i am a firm believer that if a business wants success, make it a priority that all of your customers leave happy, and feel their money was well spent. that means all customers. the profit margin is extensive at this shop. granted its by the beach, so that changes prices some. service is where this issue can be remedied. perform excellent service and that will satisfy the extensive tab. parts cost what they cost. but when service is not up to par, the shop shouldnt charge the rates they do. i brought a new bike in that had just been assembled. it was a high end trek gravel bike. it needed to have the stem raised , and on this bike trek uses parts that are exclusive to Domane models. it also needed to be fine tuned. this shop over charged me for the parts and didnt do anything else but raise the stem. And it too was not adjusted correctly. when asked what else was done, their disposition changed. and the only answer i was given was.. the bike was tuned. rude and arrogant. i didnt say another word. i picked up my bike and left. and took it to another shop down the road. and they dialed the bike in perfectly. and after reading about what the canadian guy went though. its clear the owner as well as the tech are intrested in helping only people with the right look or local association. read more

I have had my bike serviced here several times in the past. Bryan has always provided good service. Today, I took my bike in. Bryan was not there. There was a man in the work area behind the counter rummaging around looking for something or other. I stood patiently at the counter for a good five minutes waiting. The man completely ignored me and continued to rummage. Finally, I said, "hello how are you?" My cloak of invisibility included an inability to be heard as well. "That good, huh?" Nothing. So I left. I hope this guy is a great bike mechanic because he seriously needs a remedial course in Customer service. read more

I have lived in Leucadia my whole life and am the 6th gen of my family in the north county sd. I have driven past this shop thousands of times and always liked the buildings paint and mural. Last year I went in for my first time to get tubes for a beach cruiser and a old ride bike. It was a few minutes before I was helped which didn't bother me much, but I felt very unvalued by the owner and employee when they decided to carry on the conversation that they where having while helping me. Because of this I got very little information on my products and the simple transaction took around 10 minutes. I figured it was fine and they must have been very intrigued by a race and I probably would have done the same. That was until I went in yesterday to get tubes and tires for a vintage bike I had just bought. I was the only other person in the store than the clerk and he barely looked at me until I was at the counter. He gave off a very entitled and proud attitude. The clerk seemed like he would have been much more happy if I wasn't in there. Sooo.... I'm not going back. Plenty of other shops around and I have been much mor welcomed by them. I really wanted to believe this shop would be cool to get parts from but I guess they couldn't keep it funky. read more

If I could rate this place with a negative number, I would. The customer service here is horrendous. The mechanics show zero empathy towards customers. I've had three flat tires within two weeks, and the job wasn't done correctly the first time. My tire keeps leaking, and I've been charged for every visit. Avoid this place at all costs!
