I love this place. I bought my first Ebike from them in 2021. It got stolen so I bought a cool looking red Kabbit from them about 2 months later. Cool looking bike with tons of little issues. It always had a flat, so I learned to change those . And I think i was in the shop once a month getting new breaks. So, I got a chance to get to know a few of the guys. Rob, who is a really chill swarthy young man in his early to mid twenties. This young man named Mark who was a extremely friendly young Mexican man who has moved on to becoming an Emt i believe. Any repair big or small they have completed ASAP, they're always professional and friendly to everyone who walks into those doors. And they are great with communication and calling. With my current Ebike, because the kabbit had a wiring issue and had a little fire, UNDER MY SEAT‍. I returned to Alan's because I knew id get a fair price for a decent bike. Sure enough Rob hooked me up with the Ava Big Sur, literally the first one they built out the box. I love this bike and I cant say enough good things. Well, there haven't been many problems but 3 big ones. This is to be expected because my bike is my transportation. So 365 this bike is on the road.​ first there was a wiring issue and the owner himself rewired my whole bike (2 year warranty FTW), then this time last year I was having throttle issues so we swapped that out for like 60 bucks, now its the controller which is funny because I told Rob I think the controller needs to be replaced with the throttle (you cant see me but im shaking my fist jk). All these repairs combined the big issue was the wait. If you could imagine suddenly youre walking 7 miles in the rain at 4am to work. But thats not their fault. Sadly they dont have the wearhouse from Indiana Jones so they dont have every part to every bike. I understand this is a long review, but I feel ppl only talk about when theyre mad. There are quite a few bike stores in the area, but Alan's stands out for service and expertise. The staff know bikes - as they should! - and are helpful at suggesting fixes for issues. I had a recumbent picker rebuilt here - end to end replacement of nearly everything - and they did a great job. It took a while, mostly because of having to order parts. This was really an A++ customer service experience for my first time to Alan's Bike Shop. I dealt with a few of the customer service guys/ bike techs, so special shout out to Joe and Killian for making me a very satisfied customer. I walked in because my Canyon Mountain Bike 29" tubeless tire in the rear had a major leak and/or popped and needed to likely be re-seal, taped or replaced. I dropped it off on Friday morning just after they opened, and they called me back within a few hours letting me know the front tire valve stem needed to be replaced and kindly offered to match the valve stem to an anodized Orange, which happens to match the grey/orange color of the bike and my favorite color instead of just replacing it with the standard black. What consideration gents! Thank y'all so much! They offered for me to pick it up same day, but suggested I leave it over night and they would check that both tires were still holding air in the morning on Saturday, so I went with their suggestion. The two young men who were working that day were polite, knowledgeable, efficient, and very kind. I am very disappointed. After several days of my E-bike being in shop. Like 12, 13, 14 days there. The called me to say bring E boke key, so he can complete the electric bike. The job was only half way done. They claimed did not have right part. They good customer service, but when I come to a job half way done and expected ton money. read more

Morons! I bought mybeBike from these guys in 2017. I brought it back for a 'deluxe service' at $170! I pointed out when I dropped it off about the kickstand needing a good tightening. I get it home and it's exactly the same and about to fall off. Ok... they tightened the brakes and wiped it down to make it look pretty. This is ridiculous for $170! Idiots read more

Business operating during the pandemic, "thank you" Review #10 ALAN's BIKE SHOP's been an Oceanside institution for more than five decades so it's not surprising it's changed hands a time or two. these days, no actual Alan works there. sadder still, there's NO Fred Astaire at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio next door, but i digress. missing softball and my usual 24 Hr Fitness workouts, i grabbed my mountain bike hanging in a dusty garage corner and took it to ALAN's for a tune-up. lots of folks are hitting the road and trails in the Age of COVID, and it took a while to get the work done, but boy my titanium hardtail's a sweet ride. my youngest son and i are out every evening. given how slowly dad's shuffles around the block on foot, i think the pups are extra happy for a chance to stretch their legs. thanks to all the not-Alans at ALAN's -- good job. much appreciated. read more

There are 3 different levels of service and I did the middle one for about $85 I believe. Chain oiled, new cords, brakes checked and they even adjusted my seat for me. I really wanted to like this shop.. it's nicely located and has some down to earth mechanics working there. I brought my new gravel bike in for a full assembly of which they did a decent job on. And also a set of custom wheels with tubeless tires built (also a decent job) However, the communication between the mechanics and their communication with me was awful and I felt I had to stay on top of them in order to push my order through. I spent close to 2k on a new bike and wheels and assembly services. This is my first big bike purchase and I was excited to get rolling. I dropped off the parts on a Wednesday, was told it will be done Monday (eod at the latest). I returned on Monday end of day to learn that my bike wasn't done. I was obviously confused so I said that it was supposed to be done Monday. As I was saying this, the mechanic from the back rudely interrupted me And said "No, he said he would call you." I was taken aback but let it slide. Maybe I was wrong. He then told me "I can finish your now but that means I have to stop working on this bike" .. not my problem but I was willing to work with him since I had a ride planned for that evening.. I asked what else needed to be done he said I just needed to ride the breaks to wear down the plastic . Great, I can do that, so I obliged and was able to leave with my bike. The same mechanic did have time to stop and chat with his friends however. Maybe if I was a "regular " My bike would be finished. They still had to wait for my tires to build out my wheels , which had already been ordered. I was told they would be there by Wednesday and built out by Friday .. but again- "we'll call you". Friday no call.. Monday no call.. I waited 2 full weeks before calling them just to find out that they ordered the wrong size and still are waiting for the right size tire. I could hear multiple mechanics on the phone relaying conflicting information and arguing with one another, no one knew what was going on.. Also heard someone say "we told him we would callhim!" In total, I waited about 6 And a half weeks to have my bike with the wheels. Which is 4.5 weeks longer than what I was quoted, was met with rudeness and confusion for inquiring on a service I had paid for up front. I don't mind waiting and I don't mind paying, but please communicate with some tact. Especially since I am trusting you with my new ride that I am excited about and spent some money on. 3 starts are for the good work on the bike, only posting this because I would want to know this ahead of time.. read more

I remember Alan's back when they were closer to Carlsbad on the 101. They always had a pretty big shop with tons of bikes from mountain bikes, street bikes and beach cruisers. This is a full service bike shop they repair bikes, sell bikes and have a lot of accessories. I usually come here for some type of accessory like valve caps or a lock which I need to get a new one. The prices of things here are reasonable I think. I'm sure the prices would be higher in Encinitas or Carlsbad. The employees are helpful and very knowledgeable about bikes. We just bought a new indoor spin bike from Costco. It has those annoying cage type pedals. I'm no expert at mountain biking but have a certain amount of experience with spin bikes. We decided to buy and install clickless pedals so we can use our bike shoes. "Brian" helped me navigate their choices and to select the best pedals for our new bike. He has a wonderful attitude toward the customers as well as a vast amount of knowledge about their selection. Brian made my daunting task so much easier. read more

Today I had 5 star service from Alan's Bike Shop. I've been looking for a mountain bike since last year and everyone I checked with was sold out due to the pandemic. But I remembered last year when I went to Alan's, the employee was very nice, and helpful, and I remembered that... which is the reason for me checking with them today and was surprised to hear they have a few Mtn Bikes in stock. I drove in from Escondido and walked in and was greeted immediately. I was told about the Haro Double Peak Sport 29'er from another store (which they didn't have any in stock)... and Alan's Bike Shop had a few. One of the employees stopped what he was doing, walked over, showed me the bike, answered all my questions. Told me the differences between that and others. The Haro Double Peak really fit my needs. I checked the fit, rode around the store for a minute or two and was really happy. So nice to finally find a Mtn bike to spend some time with my son. But also great to find a bike shop with fine people, great attitudes, helpful and friendly. Thank you to the employee (I forgot to ask his name). Brought in my two brand new bikes that I purchased somewhere else because during my first ride, the gears were slipping so badly. Was greeted warmly and they patienly let me explain my frustration. They did a quick tune right on the spot and found the problem. Also found that my husband's wheel was lose on his bike and immediately checked mine as well. After 3 adjustments, bikes are riding like a dream. Even suggested a few other non emergency items that I need to have looked at when I get back from vacation. I really like this bike shop. They have a extensive amount of different bikes and equipment. I bought two bikes. One for myself and one for my daughter. I am 6'5 so they made sure to get me one that fit me. I highly recommend the place. The only thing I could add is I wish that they would have gone over the bike with me, such as how to remove the wheel to put it in the car, etc. Because I told them I was a new bike driver I could have gotten a little explanation more. But I'm still giving a five star because I really like the place and they come well equipped read more
