My wife and I absolutely love drive-ins! It's our preferred way of watching movies instead of going to a theater - we get to bring our own food/drinks, rest comfortably in our car, bundle up with blankets if it gets cold, control the volume, etc. It was our first time trying out Electric Dusk Drive-In in Glendale but we were up for an adventure. Tickets are bought online and range in price. Astro turf seating is $13 per person or $20 for two. No car parking is included (so you have to park outside the event) and you have to bring your own chair or rent one from them. Early Bird Car Entry + Driver is $28 ($20 for the car fee, $8 for the driver). Additional passengers are $8 per person. VIP is $75 and covers 1 car and 4 people for front row seating (just behind the astro turf area). Doors open either an hour or an hour & a half before showtime. When we scoped out the place, there was a sign that said exactly when the doors were going to be opened in the driveway. Since we had time (we were a wee bit too early), we went around the corner to get some grub. When we came back, we were second in line roughly a half hour before opening. Not too shabby and I definitely recommend showing up early to get a good spot (unless you're a VIP fancy pants). The line formed shortly after and wrapped around to Central. Pro tip - don't be a jerkasaurus and try to cut in line! The employees do notice anyone trying to pull a fast one and will make you go to the back of the line. Electric Dusk Drive-In is located off of Central Ave and California Ave in the old Sears parking lot. You cannot turn left into the parking lot on California! You have to enter from Central so that you turn right into the lot and don't block traffic. It was entertaining seeing so many people not grasp this simple idea. Once inside, the employees will scan your tickets and direct you where to park. If you want to back up and watch from your trunk, tell them and they'll help you out. If you're worried about your car battery dying out - bring your own radio or you can rent a transistor radio from them. If you listen via your car radio and it dies, they'll help jumpstart your car after the show. For restrooms, they provide two porta potties in the back side along with a hand washing station. If you're feeling munchy, they have a concession stand near the entrance but I'd encourage just getting your food beforehand from any eatery around the area (The Great White Hut is directly across the street). If you're thinking about trying Electric Dusk Drive-In, stop thinking and just do it already! They have a wide variety of movies to choose from (some are double-features) so you're covered no matter your taste of genre. It's such a fun nostalgic night and I can't wait to go back! read more

Saw someone on social media post about this so I did my research. It just so happened that they were showing Toy Story the following weekend. Bought early bird tickets online and showed up right when the lot opened. We were able to reverse park in a great parking spot despite our oversized car. They ensured that larger cars weren't blocking smaller cars which was awesome. The staff was super friendly and you could tell they've been doing this a while since everything ran smoothly. They have a little concessions stand where you can buy snacks and drinks if you didn't already pre-pay online. If you get there early enough you can walk to one of the nearby food joints to get dinner to eat while watching the movie. They also have a porta potty and sink outside to wash your hands. The screen is the perfect size. Even if you end up further in the back you'd still have a good view. However if you are really particular about not being blocked they also have VIP tickets that ensure you're in the front row. The audio from where we were near the front was great but you also have the option to tune into the FM station to stream the show on your car radio. Weather was perfect. We just popped the back open, brought some blankets and pillows and the kids had a blast. Such a great experience and would definitely recommend it! Came here with some friends during covid for Godzilla vs King Kong ~ The event itself is pretty organized. There were people directing us from the entrance to where we parked. Parking is on a firsr come first serve basis. It was a bit concerning that workers weren't wearing actual masks, just bandanas when talking to us from the car window. The screen is much smaller than expected - we parked in the 3rd or 4th row from the front and at times it was still hard to see, especially if you're in the back seat. The audio is good, you tune into a radio and there are also some speakers for people in the very first row. The cars are very close together and most people roll their windows down, especially bc of the recent heat waves. This was a bit unsettling due to covid, and my friends and I did not feel as safe but we also could not leave or close the windows due to the heat. There is also no way to leave during the movie bc of other cars, unless you're at the end of the row They have bathrooms and concessions, though I did not check it out. We bought food prior to the movie & just didn't want to leave the car with so many other people in the area. The total cost was about $13 per person, as the venue charges a fee per car and extra person (plus a small fee for ordering online). Overall, a unique, retro experience that probably costs the same, if not less than a normal theater. I do not recommend seeing a movie here if you plan on watching outside of a car. This place advertises the option to bring a blanket and chairs to watch instead of sitting in a car, but it's a hellish experience. For some reason, they blast the speakers so incredibly loud even though most people are listening to the movie from their car's audio anyways. I felt so bad for my kid and genuinely worried about her getting hearing damage. So that, combined with the fact that we had to sit through 20 minutes of commercials from 2012 and 15 minutes of the MC talking, caused us to leave about 1/4 way into the movie. read more

It felt 100% safe to walk around and send your kid to the bathroom or concession stand without worrying about their safety. The concession stand is totally reasonably priced, they aren't gouging you like other places. 1$ refills on popcorn is all i have to say about THAT. Bathrooms (porta johns) were kept clean the entire time, were well lit without being obnoxious and distracting to the movie. Ample toilet paper, hand washing stations, and garbage cans. The staff are super polite, and happy. Let them know if you want to tailgate toward the screen, and they are down to accommodate. They make sure everyone has a great view! We brought a radio since we were tailgating, but if you don't have one, they have ones you can rent for the movie. The great part of a drive in vs a regular theater, is that It makes it like surround sound in your car, or on your truck bed/trunk. You don't hear anything over the movie, no annoying guy behind you making comments the whole time like in the theater. Since we liked it so much, we've definitely continued the tradition of going, and while I enjoy a lot of what the Electric Dusk Drive-In has to offer, there are a few details that do not keep me coming back every time. Pros: - Walking distance to plenty of food. Just park in your spot, hop out, and you have a lot of Glendale's finest down Brand Blvd! You really don't need to settle for typical movie food. - I'm sure this might not apply to everyone, I LOVE it's in the middle of the city. It's bustling, nice view, city lights--perfect for watching movie. - Good movie selection. While I also wish that they showed newer movies from time-to-time, the catalogue they prepare is a lot of great choices. - Snacks and bathrooms available. - Portable radios (so you don't kill your car battery) and headlight covers. Cons: - The biggest one by far is the price. Up until a year or so ago, you paid about $30 with fees to have your car in the lot, and each additional person was at most $8--still expensive, but certainly not completely out of the question. Now, you're looking at at least $23 PER PERSON, which makes this a 'once in a while' event rather than something fun to do every other weekend. It's a shame, and I know that prices are raising everywhere, but it's not feasible to spend $50 to see a movie in a parking lot, and $100 for a family of four? That's horribly unrealistic. I've noticed they're upped their prices on a lot of their packages, with the VIP up-close a whopping $75 a vehicle. And while I love this place, and think the people work hard running it, it's not worth that much just to be up front. - Rude staff. I certainly haven't really experienced it much in the last few years, but there are a couple of the people parking that can really get on your case for seemingly no reason. Came here for the first time on 4th of July weekend. We brought my family to watch The Sandlot. We had 6 adults, 1 teenager and 1 child in two cars and we had a great time! Some tips: *Get there early. They open the doors 1.5 hours before the start of the movie. You can get your spots, park and walk across the street to get some dinner. We went to the Great White Hut for burgers and loaded fries and it was delicious! Porto's is also nearby for pastries, coffee and amazing Cuban food. *Bring chairs: we made the mistake of not bringing any but some families looked nice and comfy all spread out in front of their cars. *If you have an SUV, back up into the parking spot. I've gone to Electric Dusk Drive-In a few times and I've had a blast at each occasion. I get there at the time the gates open and they direct me to a spot and I've been lucky to get a great location in front or the second row every time. I just make a night of it and get there early. It's actually fun being early, as well, because they play appropriately-themed music according to the film being shown, and the sound was super easy to connect to through the radio. It's just a great feeling being out at twilight (I mean, duh, DUSK) and hearing live tunes, getting in the mood, and seeing other people mingling and enjoying themselves as well. Sort of a nice combo of socializing like at a campsite and staying away from the public, haha. I've come with a blanket, socks, pajama bottoms and candy and I feel like I'm cozied up in my living room except the sound is better and the screen is much bigger, haha. But they do have snacks and candy to buy, though I've never taken advantage. Probably most important is that they have an excellent line-up of movies and events. Always something to inspire you to have a little evening adventure, and that's how I look at it, even if everything isn't as "perfect a viewing experience" as your regular movie theater, in terms of sound or whatever. I'm seeing some great Halloween-themed movies coming too that I'd forgotten about. Getting their emails is always a treat to see what they have curated. I also have found that the people welcoming you and positioning the cars have always been nice, clear and well prepared. And they give fun intro speeches at the beginning. Honestly, it just feels like a fun, film-loving community of people who are giving us a good show of movies you'd never be able to see in the theaters these days! Recently just watched psycho at this place. I was Effy about this place but overall it was a cute place to have date especially seeing a movie you haven't seen before. The staff was friendly and they have a concession stand that sells Mexican Coke and obviously popcorn. They also let you borrow radios so you don't have to use your car which is a plus. I feel like the bad reviews over exaggerated I would say try this place once if you don't like it don't come back but for sure I am coming back for back to the future and October if they do any scary movies. read more

I had an absolutely good time and I thought I was not. Went I for the second movie on a Saturday night. Got there at 9:30, line was a bit long. I don't know if they change that, but the cars were spaced out. We had room to open the doors if we wanted to and we had more than 6 feet, at least! They included suggestions such as knowing how to turn off your car lights (real thing with cars nowadays), radio usage, etc. Upon arrival, the personnel onsite provided good logistical/parking directions. There was plenty of space between cars. The staff did a good introductions with further directions (restrooms, concessions, what to do if your battery was dead at the end) along with a few things to hype up the crowd. The porta potties were clean, had lights! and there were handwashing stations with soap, paper towels and hand sanitizer. We brought our own food, so I can't comment on the concessions. Would have been 5-stars if they hadn't FALSELY ADVERTISED on their Eventbrite that "We will space out cars to make sure folks can always maintain 6 feet of distance." This was an ABSOLUTE LIE. All the cars were packed so tightly that we could barely open our doors even if we wanted to get out. Convertible cars were allowed to watch the film with their tops down and no masks. The employees weren't even social distancing as they claimed, too. Every one has different levels of comfort right now, so I understand if the aforementioned isn't a problem to some people. But the operators need to be HONEST and advertise properly so people who aren't comfortable with their set up don't show up and immediately feel very uncomfortable and trapped for hours. read more

Luckily I brought my hot sauce gun and started shooting the popcorn. I would give it 9/10 if it was a freezing day in Kentucky. But we're in Glendale so it's not the same. Poorly run, rude staff, filthy port-a-potties. I took my younger brothers here this last weekend to see Beetlejuice. I arrived an hour before the move was scheduled to start. Despite this, I was made to park in the back row without explanation, while dozens of people who came in after me were parked ahead of our car. When I asked if we could move closer both attendants literally screamed at me until finally one of them explained it was because of my car (I have a small SUV). I went back and checked the ticket where it said if you have an SUV to arrive early to get a good space- which I had done. The screen was tiny, and the parking lot was not even full. If you're craving a drive-in movie, I would highly recommend making the trip to Paramount Drive-in. read more

I'm rating this establishment low before having even been there because of the following factors... 1. There is no posted schedule ANYWHERE to be found as for what movies are playing and when. 2. The number they have listed to call for information works... but it sends you to a voicemail that is full. So you STILL can't get through to see what movies are playing. I bought a Groupon to take my boo on a date. I shouldn't have to physically get myself to this location before I even find out what movies are playing. HIGHLY inconvenient and unprofessional. Especially if this is a place that has a yelp AND is using something like Groupon to get paying customers though the food. The entire experience was just okay. I have been to other drive in movies with a better experience. First is the price: you have to pay per car (makes sense) and an additional $8 per person! I don't understand why you have to pay per person when you're in one car. They had said they would take into consideration the size of the cars, but I don't think they did. However, it's all dependent on when you arrive, so I let that go. The inflatable screen has to sit on the ground, so if you are far back, you can't see the bottom of the screen. The snack station left much to be desired. You get 2 free refills on popcorn, but the night we went, the pop corn was cold and stale for $20. Then, the previews did not even start until about 830 (815 start time), and after the previews, the announcer was very long winded with announcements, rules, making sure people could hear, etc. It was about a 10-minute speech, way too long! Rude staff, 2 porta-johns for the entire crowd during a covid surge, there are tons of lights behind the super small screen and they make suvs go to the very back of the parking lot. Such a disappointment. My boyfriend bought tickets as a fun date night and we had high expectations as we've never been to a drive in and it was going to be a cute night. We got here and we're told we had to pay an extra $10 to actually drive on the premises.. maybe we misread something but apparently there are different levels to the tickets. You would think that the ticket would include parking for a Drive In.. We were then instructed to wait in a massive line to park.. it literally took 35 minutes for us to be parked as they "park each car individually". It would be nice if there were a faster process as the line was excruciating. We were told to park next to an already parked grey car and when we were there we couldn't see anything so we moved to the spot next to us. An angry man with a mohawk came and told us we couldn't park there and told us to go to the original spot. We told him we couldn't see so he aggressively told us to park behind a different car and made us pull so close to the car in front of us that we couldn't see the screen. We just moved again and they can bite me... We paid more than we should and waited longer than necessary we should at least be able to see the damn movie. Now post movie - I'm ultimately happy we came. Regardless of a bumpy start it was a good bonding time with my love. read more

I went here yesterday with my friend to see a showing of Pulp Fiction. I've only ever been to one other drive-in theater (also in the LA area) so I was interested to see how these two compare. Firstly, the Electric Dusk website has a little bit of false advertising; the pictures depict this very scenic, "heart of Hollywood" drive-in experience overlooking a city. In reality, the drive-in is located in a small and dusty parking lot *right* next to a busy intersection/entryway to a major freeway. Secondly, the "screen" is a small, inflatable screen that wouldn't be out-of-place at someone's "backyard movie" sesh. My friend and I were only located in the second-to-third row and even then, we didn't have full, clear vision of the screen. In comparison, the other drive-in I went to had a massive, constructed screen built on top of pillars; was located in a quiet and scenic area away from any busy streets; and the parking lot had elevated "ridges" so that each car got an equal view of the screen. Electric Dusk's one saving grace is that the food options were great - they had home-cooked hot dogs, burgers, candy, popcorn, etc. They also were *completely* full for their Pulp Fiction showing as they're one of the few drive-ins in town that show "old/classic" movies vs. brand new ones. I don't like to rag on any drive-in theater because I truly tip my hat off to those who are running them/keeping them around as I believe drive-ins are tragically far and few between, but I think Electric Dusk has a lot of room for improvement. read more

It's been a while I have to been to movie drive in and I can honestly say I actually really enjoyed the experience. The only con I have is that I agree that the tickets are really expensive compared to other movie drive ins. We arrived a few mins before they began letting cars in and luckily we got a really good spot. We had space between cars so we can get in and out of our cars easily. They only had 3 porta potties which I thought was going to be an issue considering that it was really packed but they had someone clean them after every single use. The other con that I have is that The snacks are also a little overpriced so I recommend getting snacks before you enter. read more

This is such a wonderful activity to do with family and friends during the summertime. I read a few reviews that some people were disappointed at the fact that this is not an actual drive-in but come on! It is LA how are they going to have a random property just lying around? It would've been bulldozed by now and turned into expensive condominiums. This facility is actually located in a parking lot of the school. It is located right off of the two freeway. I personally enjoy bringing my own food or stopping at the Pollo Loco (also located in the same area). There are many breweries around here see you can definitely fill up a growler and bring it in. Ok so, Saturday evenings they do blow up a jumbo screen and then cars park and watch movies. I recommend trying to get there closer to when the doors open in order to get one of the front row parking spots. After you park you can walk around and purchase some of the snacks from the concession and enjoy the music playing. You are allowed to bring outside drinks, food and pets! While watching the movie, you do have to tune your car to an a.m. station in order to hear the sound. I didn't have a problem with my car battery but my car is on the newer spectrum. They did announce that if you needed a jumpstart to just hang out. As for tickets, Groupon always has specials going on. Yeeeeeaaahh... I have to agree that this is kind of bullshit. I was under the impression that this was an actual drive in theater when I first bought the tickets, which is totally my bad. I should have done more research, I guess. But looking at the picture gallery on the website, it looked really cool, like it was at the top of a parking structure which you could see the city skyline. Nope. It's in a vacant lot across from a sex store and next to the 2 freeway. This is not cheaper then going to the theater, it's still $14 a person, not per car, like a normal drive-in but PER PERSON. why the hell do I want to spend the same amount of money to sit in my car next to the freeway? Pretty lame. ALSO, they will not refund your money. Which is total bullshit. You buy tickets through a third party so there is 'nothing' they can do. Uh huh. read more

This was the worst drive in experience I've ever had. First of all the tickets are twice as expensive than some of the others. I was excited to see these movies so I went with it. Once we were there they packed the lot so full that the car next to us was only about 3 feet away, I couldn't even open my door to get out of the car, and I couldn't open my window because the girl next to us didn't have a mask on. Most people there didn't have masks. So I sat in a hot humid car for 2 hours. They don't care about social distancing here at all whatsoever. When the first movie was over it was a mess trying to get out because they didn't leave room for people to exit. What happens if you have an emergency?! These people have no idea how drive ins work. read more
