Unplanned movie day and I randomly stumbled into Vista Theater. I went to see Resident Evil. I had never heard of Vista Theater until now and I am thrilled. I am happy I did. It's a 1923 built building which makes it cooler. It only shows one movie because there's only 1 screen. The staff was great and they seemed happy to be there. I ordered popcorn and a Coke Zero, great tasting popcorn. Reasonable pricing on the snacks. The inside is so cool and vintage as you can imagine. Try it out it's a cool experience. read more

I'm so glad that classic movie theaters are still around and The Vista Theatre is one of them. Owned by Quentin Tarantino, this theatre thrives with current and past motion pictures! I had to see Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" at this theater in Los Feliz. You could pay at the box office or order your tickets on the website. I bought my ticket online and just had my QR code scanned at the theater entrance by an employee with an iPad. Walked into the lobby and joined the line for the concessions stand. There is popcorn, candy, soft drinks and also adult beverages: beer and wine. After getting my popcorn I walked into the huge theater and it was amazing. Egyptian style architecture, a huge closed red curtain that hides the screen and the seats a comfortable with ample leg room. The same employee that scanned my online ticket came to the front of the movie screen and greeted us with a warm hello, introduced the film, told us proper movie etiquette (no filming or taking pictures of the movie and to please take your trash out with you when you leave the theater) and let us know there was 15 minutes of previews including a Bugs Bunny cartoon. So cool! Will definitely come back to watch more movies here! read more

This was my first time at one of the local vintage theaters in Hollywood and it was very pleasant. The Vista's one auditorium is very well ventilated and quite grand. There are many seats to choose from and the quality of the screen and sound are both top notch. I'm glad I chose to watch The Odyssey here in 70mm. First time at the Vista Theater and yeah, consider me converted. This place opened in 1923 and you can feel the history the second you walk in. It's now owned by Quentin Tarantino, which somehow makes perfect sense once you're there. We watched No Other Choice in 35mm, and I loved everything about the experience! The movie and the theater. While waiting for the screening to start, I read the theater's history on Wikipedia and learned the interior is Egyptian Revival-inspired, influenced by the King Tut tomb excavation in 1922 the year before the theater first opened. Once you know that, the design is even cooler. Sadly, we're all pretty numb to Egyptian tomb aesthetics now but this must've blown people's minds back then! Gorgeous, old-school, and full of character. The Vista isn't just a movie theater, it's part of the experience. Definitely not my last visit. Quick tips: - Even if you already have tickets, get there early. seating is first come, first served and the line matters - if you're seeing a foreign film with subtitles, aim for seats higher up. I love movies. I go to the movies often. It's one of my passions. I've wanted to come here since Tarantino bought and refurbished it. It is an old movie theater that's been here for years that has been completely renovated in an old school way. It has an Egyptian theater vibe. The seats are not reserved and they're not the new style recliners. But they're comfortable and the rows are well spaced. The concessions stand has an old school vibe too. RC Cola products are the drinks. Real butter for the popcorn. Beer if you want that. It's like when movies were a show. There's a cartoon at the beginning, then trailers that relate to the film you're seeing. I loved this place and i'll be back. If you love movies, you'll love it too. read more

From my previous review here, it's not hard to guess that I'm a big fan of this theater. To refresh - plenty of leg space, the seating is on a grade so it's really difficult to have an obstructed view, one of the few theaters that regularly play the rare formats (Panavision, 70mm, etc.), real butter on the popcorn, more than reasonable prices on the concessions, and just an overall cool vibe/historic factor. Came here recently to watch 'Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair' as close as it can be as the director himself intended...at his theater, on 70mm and in its entirety. I've seen both movies in the theater when they were originally released, saw them a few times on DVD/streaming, but watching this film on the big screen in 70mm made it feel like I was watching this movie for the first time. Almost forgot just how great Uma Thurman was in this movie (along with the rest of the cast of course). Just a masterpiece and an excellent cinema going experience! My only gripe was that although I like the seats when I was watching other movies here, I found myself shifting a bit during this 4 hr 30 min movie marathon. I've been wanting to see a movie at Vista Theatre for years. I would look at how cool it is on the outside, check out the handprints - I love pop culture and Hollywood stuff so it's always been fun to look at when getting coffee across the street at Camel. But then~ my chance came last night to visit the Quintin Tarantino owned movie theater. This reminds me of theaters I went to in the 90s with my mom back in the day, nostalgia aesthetic vibes in a good way. Plus all their movies play in old school formats like VHS and 35mm, my movie last night was in VistaVision. They said Warner Brothers came in and made sure the movie was playing to their liking - fascinating. My limited staff interactions were good, bathrooms were fine, prices on concessions weren't bad. They had popcorn, candies, Nathan's hot dogs and White Castle hamburgers, lolz! The theater is just gorgeous with fun statues, high ceilings, fun blue, purple & red vibes. The movie starts right about at showtime with no previews. My only gripe aside from the seats that get uncomfortable for 3 hour movies is the theater temperature. I know theaters are known for being cold but goodness, my body was shivering even using my jacket as a blanket & my nose turned into an icicle. So bring warmth! Also there is no parking so plan accordingly. Our tickets were $26 each but pricing varies on the movie & timing. Fun experience and be sure to look around while you're there. read more

You're sitting in history when you're here! THEATER: Here's a fun fact from the Vista wiki- it was designed by architect Lewis A. Smith, and presents a hybrid of two different styles: the exterior is Spanish Mission Revival style, and the interior is Egyptian Revival style- which reminds me a lot of another Hollywood theater- the Egyptian. I went to see Kill Bill: the Whole Bloody Affair. Unless you have "parking powers" activated, add a half hour onto your commute time to arrive and find neighborhood parking somewhere within a mile of this theater. I found a spot in a nearby neighborhood by a school. Back to the movie KB:tWBA-- I hadn't seen Killing William since its initial theatrical run, so it felt pretty new to me. THE MOVIEGOING EXPERIENCE: This movie still hits hard in a packed theater. Lots of reactions and laughs and groans, etc. I was probably laughing the hardest at how much FEET were in this movie. The seats were comfortable and that's judged by my shifting around only two times that I can recall. Thankfully this movie had an intermission to stretch during its 4+ hour runtime. I went during this exclusive December engagement and there's a lot of memorabilia on display in the lobby. There's a lot of snack and food and drink options, and it's pretty reasonably priced. Also, bring your own snacks! No one is checking bags and pockets here and the world is getting pretty expensive. The Vista is in a hip part of town and there's a lot of great eats and drinks in walking distance. We dined at Fred 62 after! read more

Only because official reviews have a minimum word count, I'll say Tarantino did a service to arts & entertainment by preserving historic theaters and hosting events here. Shout out to Oscar, Carter et al for being hospitable, courteous, heavy handed with their pours . Truly a movie lover's paradise. My only critique is that the modern audio equipment does not fit the acoustics of the building. Holy moly!!! we came here to see what honestly was probably one of the best movies I've seen in a long time -One Battle After Another. This theater was so creepy and amazing!! it gave off old Hollywood movie theater meets Disneyland haunted house vibe!! we have pre-bought our tickets so the check-in process was easy. Service was super friendly and efficient and for being a Monday mid morning it was a full house, not an empty seat insight. We did not try any of the concession goodies because we had just had some amazing bagels at Boichik.. that's in another review lol but we did hear someone say that they have the best popcorn ever!! loved this movie theater would definitely come back again and please go see this movie. Sharing this, on the off chance that tagging Tarantino's theater, where I saw the 9.8/10 film ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER last Monday morning in #vistavision, will have an impact. The aisle seating for wheelchairs is very non-ADA compliant, and could be easily solved by making the ramps symmetrical, which is kinda how gravity works with a wheelchair... you don't want half of a ramp in a dark place... zero ramp would be safer, as it gives a false sense of security and is the reason why my wrist received this cut and bruise ( which looked a heck of a lot worse 3 days ago). Looking forward to the Christmas release of Kill Bill volume 1 and 2 as a single film! Something about getting injured in a movie theater owned by QT feels like a rite of passage, but I am concerned others might become more severely injured in a similar situation and it is a very easy to solve this problem, I imagine. read more

This was our first ever visit to QT's Vista Theater as our family braved the rain to attend an 8pm show of "No Other Choice", a Korean drama/comedy/thriller. WOW! We were positively blown away by everything about this theater! First off, the ticket and snack bar prices are more than reasonable. Nothing like the overinflated prices at AMC, Edwards, Regal and so on... Vista Theater (VT) was completely renovated and a row of seats were removed on every other row to allow for more leg room and for patrons to exit their seats to use the restroom or purchase more food or beverages at the snack bar without ruining the experience for those seated next to you. The snack bar sold alcohol, RC Cola, candy favorites and 'healthy' candies, REAL buttered popcorn, coffee, etc. The ambiance of the entire theater was nostalgic, well kept, roomy, and had a vibe which is missing in many movie theaters today. They only show movies shot in 35mm or 70mm film, no digital shot movies. They show a short cartoon before the movie just like they did in the old days!!! No more than 3 trailer previews are shown, and a theater staff member comes out prior to the cartoon & previews and summarized the movie about to be shown and reminded patrons to silence their phones. This theater is the perfect place to see a mob movie, Die Hard, or any all time film faves. We couldn't think of anything this theater didn't have or could do better. The movie's sound is even piped into the restrooms so if you have to leave for a few minutes, at least you can hear audio of the movie you're missing while away from your seat. If 6-Star reviews were possible, the Vista Theater would be receiving one from me. We LOVED this theater! read more

What can you say about this place? If you're 45 or over, it's like an ordinary moviegoing experience - which is something of a miracle since that's extinct in most places. Vista is elevated by the carefully curated programming, the mix of classic and newfangled treats & ofc the Pam Grier themed cafe attached. I can walk to it too so that's a plus in LA. read more

Many years ago, when I was a Fellow at AFI, the Vista graciously granted permission for me to film a period piece inside and outside the theater. Happy to say, virtually nothing of the classic "Egyptian themed" decor has changed. Karloff's mummy would feel right at home. Tarantino is definitely the right guy to have purchased it. Among other pluses, there's a handprint and signature gallery outside, obviously referencing The Chinese, but with a much hipper roster of honorees. Then, there's the stated mission of screening only film prints. Caught the "Kill Bill Saga" in 70mm and, a few weeks later, the return engagement of P.T. Anderson's "One Battle After Another", this time also in 70. It had originally shown there in Vistavision, the format in which it was shot. Anyway, I live in Atwater Village, so it's just a few minutes away. I plan to return often. read more

I have been coming here for the past year, and I didn't have a chance to visit it before its renovation. Right off the bat, I must give kudos to the theater's employees. Every time I've visited, they've treated customers with warmth and gratitude--especially considering I'm someone who usually asks for my ticket to be printed, which I know adds extra hassle. Yet, they're always accommodating. Personally, I've decided that if a movie isn't shown in IMAX but is presented in 35mm or 70mm here, it's absolutely worth my drive from Santa Clarita to here. I especially enjoy sitting in rows three to five for the best viewing experience. They also got a great, powerful sound system. I need to mention how clean this theatre is every time I visited here too, especially the bathroom. I totally love how they maintain and take care of this gem. thank you from every ounce of my soul. read more

I used to love coming to this theater. Pre-pandemic, I came here regularly because ticket prices were a value, it was (and still is) a great space and had reasonable snack prices. Ever since Quentin Tarantino took it over, the admission prices have increased dramatically, and the snack prices have gone up considerably as well. Six dollars for a small drink when it used to be three or four and all the other snacks have gone up as well. I don't visit the Vista nearly as often as I used to. read more

We went out to see the 1971 classic "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" at the Vista Theatre. It was a wonderful experience, my nine year old son was amazed at the 1920's Egyptian Revival architecture and the tasty treats from the snack bar. The popcorn was the best movie popcorn I have ever had, they even used real butter to flavor it! The only down side is that there is no dedicated parking for the theater so build in extra time to find street parking before the movie you plan to attend. read more

Who doesn't love a classic theater, especially one with insane leg room (ignore the history on why there's so much leg room). It's always fun seeing films projected on the film they were actually filmed on. It is a unique viewing experience everyone should have at least once. This is one of the last grand movie houses in town still regularly showing films on one big screen. It's a pretty glorious experience seeing a film at the Vista, even if, over the years, I've seen some duds here like La La Land and Shadow of the Vampire, during which I recall falling asleep, which may or may not have had something to do with the film, which I don't remember at all, except I believe William Dafoe and John Malkovich were in it. How could that have been bad? Anyhow, I digress. Since Quentin Tarantino bought the place and spruced it up, the film selection has been more along the lines of the New Beverly, which is a major upgrade. read more

Got tickets for a date night to see Phantom Thread on 70mm. It's a great price for LA. But be warned parking is a nightmare. I love the venue, the old school feel of the ticket booth and handprints out front. Even the consession stand has a timey vibe to it. And despite the seats being the old fashioned red plush it was fairly comfortable for two and a half hours. I even love how much room there is between the seats. But my favorite part is the pre show. I love that they show old trailers to match the movie. All in all, I would totally come back here to see one of my favorite movies back on the big screen read more

We live in a golden age of boutique cinema here in LA. The Vista is a great place to see a movie. Great programming, good snacks and drinks, great coffee shop next door. You know the best part about the seating? The legroom. You don't have to get up and down everytime someone in your row needs to leave their seats. Why doesn't every theatre do this? Oh, and it's one of four places in the world that can screen VistaVision, so you know you're among friends here. read more

Terrible experience. I paid online for two tickets for a matinee and couldn't find street parking - even though we arrived twenty minutes early. The small parking lot a block away was full. Parked illegally in front to ask for my money back because the movie was starting (no previews) and guess what? NO REFUNDS! So the Vista Theatre kept my money and I never even got to see the movie. They offered to negotiate for a later time/date but I was illegally parked as I said earlier and didn't want to wait around for the manager and had to leave. Street parking was awful - I drove around for almost twenty minutes and there was nothing. People were getting out of their cars to move trash cans from the street so they could park, and some of the signs said two hour parking only (the film was closer to three hours). Needless to say, I'll never go back. read more

What a cool movie theatre! I love older, nostalgic theaters that have character and Vista checks those boxes. Quentin Tarantino owns this theatre and opened a little coffee shop right next door to the theatre called Pam's Coffy, dedicated to Pam Grier. The coffee shop serves good coffee and pastries and cereal in the morning. I got a coffee and brown sugar pop tart that was delicious, even though it was served cold. Lots of vintage lunch boxes on display. The movie we came to see was the original Ghostbusters film from the 80's and watching it on the big screen in 70mm film did not disappoint. The inside of the theatre is beautiful with a ton of leg room between aisles. Like seriously, so much room for activities. If you enjoy watching movies and like nostalgia and are a fan of Tarantino movies, then you really need to come here. Fun visit! read more
