Our movie started at 6:00 PM, we arrived around 5:20 PM, and the garage was completely closed off -- they weren't letting anyone else in. Luckily, we found parking about 3 minutes away and paid around $5, which honestly wasn't too bad. We came here for the second part of our Valentine's date night and watched Wuthering Heights because hello... Margot Robbie is my favorite girl. I haven't been here in over 15 years and WOW -- I forgot how absolutely beautiful this theater is inside. The lobby is spacious, classy, and honestly feels kind of luxurious. There are pool tables, a full bar area downstairs, and spaces where you can hang out with drinks and good company before your movie. We headed straight into our theater and ordered food from our seats (also... water is complimentary, love that). We were seated in our own little pod -- super intimate with two seats, cozy setup, and yes... a blanket. It truly felt like rich people movie night. Shoutout to our server Jake, who was outstanding from start to finish. Great service, super attentive, and made the experience even better. Food-wise: The Boss Burger ($20.5) was a solid 8.5/10 -- hubby really enjoyed it. Although, there were no pickles or tomatoes in there even though it was in their menu. I ordered the Chicken Caesar Wrap ($17), and I'll be honest... it was the only downside of the night. It was a bit cold and tough, and the tortilla-to-filling ratio was a little off for me. I'd give it a 6/10. If the tortilla was a bit warmer I'd think it'll be able to hold onto the filling a bit better, but that was meh, for me. BUT the fries? Piping hot, crispy, and delicious. And Jake even brought us ranch, BBQ sauce, and extra ketchup without us having to ask twice. Overall, this was my husband's first time here, and it definitely won't be our last. The seats were way too close together, and the person next to us had belongings spread into the shared space, making it very difficult to get in and out of our seats comfortably. Because of how uncomfortable the situation was, we decided to leave during the previews before the movie even started. We politely explained the issue to the manager and asked if we could either move to different seats -- even less expensive ones -- or receive some type of accommodation such as passes for another movie. Unfortunately, the manager refused to help in any way and would not issue a refund, exchange, or even offer courtesy tickets. For a theater that markets itself as a luxury experience and charges premium prices, I expected much better customer service. Other theaters like AMC are usually much more understanding and willing to work with customers when issues arise. Instead, we left feeling frustrated after paying for a movie we never got to watch. Sadly, this experience completely turned us off from coming back.

Not only was a class taking place during my time at Whammy!, but the man behind the cash register was very cold and disinterested, as though patronizing the place was something me and my girlfriend should be ashamed of. Which seems a little bizarre considering I'm pretty sure the store needs real customers to pay real money for their products in order to continue working as a store. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but still. I asked if they do screenings at whammy's store, and the man behind the counter, simply, almost wordlessly, pointed me towards their screening calendar. While I very much enjoyed the goofy selection of VHS tapes offered at the store, as well as their avant-garde vinyl selection, not to mention the off-beat decorations adorning the store, I am really questioning whether I'll ever return to Whammy!. Wish I had a better experience, and am unsure if they even want me to come back. My girlfriend and I tried our best to lift our spirits from what was such a discouraging experience. Perhaps I caught the staff at Whammy! on the wrong day, but for now, I'm going to take a break from Whammy!, though I am still chuckling at the fun VHS tapes I picked up, despite not having a player.

Analog Media is mostly specific for the ancient medium of VHS video cassette tapes. Do they still manufacture video cassette machines? Even more esoteric would be to focus on Sony Betamax video cassette tapes.  There is also a very small vinyl record  and movie posters section. Whammy also has movie showings that no commerical movie theatre would take on since it would interest a very focused audience. Limited seating of about 30. Tickets are sold through their website as well as a monthly calendar of events.  Tonight's theme is Dirty Looks, which delves into two disparate themes, one in the New York City Camp Drag scene and the other in San Francisco featuring a dream-like pastiche of the working class strugglIng to make sense of a surrealistic world.  I will post screen shot synopes of both performances from the Whammy for those who want further info.  Tom Rubnitz's Psykho III The Musical, a camp drag version of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho was droll and light heartedly entertaining in a home movie style much like John Waters' Pink Flamingo.  But it was a tough slog to watch  Curt McDowell's Taboo much like David Lynch's Eraserhead that was so ridiculously boring that my friends and I had to leave midway through.  I'm glad that Whammy is doing its thing. It's a store that seems transported from an alternate universe or that my passing through the gated portal transported me to that alternate reality. Enter from the rear of the building on Rampart and not Sunset Blvd. 4 stars for being an ultra customized reference center for the video specialist.

We were in the "premium" seating upstairs. We had to make our way to the 3rd floor to enter. "Premium" seating does not have reclining seats. Granted...the seating chart mentions "Recliner" at the bottom but when you have "premium" seats, I would think that would be included. IT'S NOT. They are generally comfortable seats but do not recline. I am looking over the balcony at people reclining their seats with tray tables, etc. I was annoyed but lesson learned, I guess? The theater was clean and the movie was great. Definitely recommend watching in 70mm, if that's how a film is made. NOTE: Movie is 3 hours long. I arrived around 6:45a. (The movie started about 7:30a after previews) The theater does validate your parking ticket. After the validation, I paid $8.80.

[Parking]: Regal LA Live will validate parking for up to 4 hours for $8 plus 10% tax using one of the scanners inside the theater, but visitors must park at the West Garage (Lot W) Gates E and F only (1015 Georgia St). [Amenity]: I am not a fan of how the concession stands are set up here. The main lobby has only one line for the sole concession stand. It also has a separate concession bar with no line. There is another concession stand in the IMAX 70mm waiting area, but it was not serving anything during our visit. There is a water fountain right next to the restroom, but it was not working. [Tickets]: The IMAX 70mm auditorium has two types of tickets - Reserved (reclining seats from Rows A through K) and Balcony (non-reclining seats from Rows AA through GG). $31.99 per person for a Reserved ticket to a weekday 3 PM showing plus an additional convenience fee on Fandango. Regal's website was buggy and I was not able to use a Regal Groupon code for the IMAX 70mm showing, so I recommend sticking with Fandango for a smooth purchasing experience. [Seating]: Our party sat in Row I and I would say those reclining seats were quite comfortable. [Conclusion]: No complaints about the actual IMAX 70mm showing, but one star off for paid parking (other IMAX 70mm locations like Regal Irvine Spectrum & IMAX in Irvine and Regal Edwards Ontario Palace & IMAX in Ontario offer free parking) & one star off for the non-ideal concession setup & another star off for the non-functional water fountain.

The 80s movie-themed atmosphere, extensive food and drink menu, and attentive servers made it feel like much more than a typical theater. Recently, they've switched to online ordering, and it has really changed the experience. Instead of quickly looking through a menu and placing an order with a server, you can end up spending much of the 30-minute pre-show period staring at your phone. That defeats part of the reason I come here in the first place. I've also noticed that the menu has been scaled back significantly. Some of my favorite items, including the breakfast sandwiches and other offerings, have disappeared. I used to recommend this theater not only because of its movie-loving atmosphere but also because of the quality and variety of the food. I don't come here for standard movie-theater snacks. I come for the great food, good beer and cocktails, nostalgic atmosphere, and overall experience. If the new ownership continues cutting back on what made this place unique, they risk losing loyal regulars. At that point, I might as well go to AMC if I'm just looking for typical movie-theater food. The movie going experience was a good one so we really dont have complaints. We would go back again. Not the most modern of movie theaters but it suited us just fine. She sprayed over the drinks which I hurried to grab my daughters but couldn't get my cup in time. That was very upsetting because why wouldn't you say something and let me move my food/drinks first?? Also hello?? Spray the rag away from guests faces ?? We already spent so much and traveled hours away to come here and see this and make it special for our daughter so we stayed through the movie entirely. When we were leaving there were roaches everywhere and a random centipede looking worm on the staircase. The trash cans were overfilled and the restrooms were so bad! Getting to the theater can be a little confusing, but they do send you instructions before your visit. BE AWARE their email says parking is right across the valet for about $10-$12. Since it was dark, I mistakenly parked at the lot next to the $10 one, and that one was $20 (ouch). Don't make that mistake. When you walk through the valet, there is someone there to tell you where to wait. The doors open about a half hour before your showing. We were a little confused because we weren't sure if someone was going to come down and get us. There was a resident that scanned us up the elevator, and there were plenty of spots to lounge outside of the cinema area. We sat in front of the concession stands, and the valet from downstairs had come up and ask us and the other two couples waiting to move to the seating area closest to the elevators. It wasn't a big deal but I thought it was weird that we had to do that. Our tickets were for the loveseat, which comes with one popcorn per person. We watched LaLa Land (in LaLa Land), which was nice because there's also a view of the buildings in downtown. Seat was comfy, but I wish there were either cup holders on the chairs or perhaps a small table in between seats for your food & drinks. I HIGHLY recommend bringing a blanket. There are other reviews that mention they have heaters, however, this was not the case during our visit. I'm thinking they probably have them for the winter, but there were no heaters present during our visit. It gets rather cold, but it feels okay if you bring a sweater and a small blanket. I loved the concept of the headphones for the movie. They were excellent quality and had great sound. You can adjust it based on your liking. Also, all the seats have a great view of the screen. It's a pricey date, but it's worth it if you're looking for something different.

The edges were cut off to accommodate the height/width ratio of the theater screen. But okay. Still great to see the iMax image quality. This may be being picky, but the popcorn was horrible! For the price charged you would expect fresh popped. Nope. Not only was it pre-bagged warmed over, it was STALE. I mean chewy, stick in the crevasses of your teeth stale. It was $31 for two large popcorns, one large and one small soda. For me, theater popcorn is part of the whole in-person movie experience. So, if you don't mind a slightly pared down iMax movie screen and no popcorn (it is really inedible) then hey, this place is okay.
