I enjoyed peeking through their large room and smaller back rooms of furniture, small appliances, household items, books, clothes, art, and accessories. They sell vintage and antique items with some modern things thrown in. My favorite area was the adorable kitchen room. You could practically see a grandma standing there baking a pie. If had enough space, I would have scooped up those sweet ceramic vegetable trinket boxes. Everything was actively arranged and clearly priced. Take your time and look closely. There are a lot of cool things to see and prices can be negotiated. The Flip Side has another store in Ft. Lauderdale on Cypress Creek Road in Ft. Lauderdale. I was on my way to the new Nordic Bake Shop, another must visit when I spotted their sign that said vintage, one of my loves. Walking into the store is like stepping into a museum except you can buy anything. Amazing treasures await around every corner. They carry furniture, art, sculpture, clothes, and accessories. The jewelry made me salivate. After talking with the owner Karen for awhile I was persuaded to try some silver rings on and of course I ended up with two of them. I have been wearing the heart shaped one every day since my visit. I asked Karen what the oldest piece in the store was and she was a wooden cabinet from France dated 1730 that comes with a ghost! The owner Karen is a sweetheart. I had the best chat with her. She will buy your old jewelry and gold. The jewelry collection here has so many interesting pieces, I really had to hold myself back. When you are looking for that special something that no one else has, pay them a visit.

The seedy plaza is almost entirely empty and looks quite run down with lots of open places for rent. And it's no where near other similar stores or shops, either. Inside is like coming into a hidden treasure trove. Lots and lots of very interesting items to look at of all sorts. Of course, with today's current super high gold prices, the high end jewelry is (high) priced accordingly. There's a lot of Asian pieces of jade, snuff bottles, and the like. Many display cases are dazzlingly full of shiny baubles and beads. Even the costume jewelry is ogle worthy. In the back of the store are the minks -- stoles, jackets, and full coats plus a separate rack of other types of fur outerwear. You may recognize your mom's or grandmother's or great aunt's stuff here. Then there are the fancy dresses -- with beads or spangles or rhinestones, etc. And there's accessories as well... I'm sure a store like this would be packed with customers on Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale or say Worth Avenue in Palm Beach. Of course, there, the rent would be astronomically higher. The item was already damaged and labeled AS IS, so the refusal made little sense. Very poor communication and customer service experience, especially after the long wait. Disappointing experience over a $5 item that was clearly marked. Not coming back again.

There were also some students or volunteers or young new employees -- I couldn't tell which -- being given a tour of the store as we were there. Both were a bit distracting. They have some inventory that will appeal depending on what you're looking for... they don't have much furniture wise. There's a bit of a bunch of different things --linens, housewares, silverware, electronics, books, clothing etc., etc. Most things are organized together by category. Price wise, it's a mix of decent prices and high prices. They have some of the more expensive items near the counter. We didn't love something enough to buy anything here. But we are still glad we came to check them out.

There was a lot of things to look at and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of inventory. Everything was neat, organized, and fairly priced. I saw several people who looked like resellers picking up items and checking prices on their phones before popping it into their carts. If you see something you like grab it. Going through all of the stuff can take over your life. I wasn't sure where to turn, but I found Bonnie and Melissa from B & F Estate Sales online. After reading some of the reviews on their website, I decided to have them come in and help out. It was a great decision. I liked that they have been in business a long time and aren't just some fly by night company. Bonnie has been doing estate sales for over 30 years. If they aren't run right, from what I've read an estate sale can be a nightmare. I decided to fly into South Florida to "supervise" the sale. Unless there were any major problems, my plan was to totally stay out of their way. I would think that some companies wouldn't want the owner there while the sale was going on, but Bonnie and Melissa made me feel welcome to be involved in the process and I found their business interesting. Prior to me coming into town, Bonnie and Melissa had gone through the house and started tagging items for sale. Bonnie is also a realtor, so I was very comfortable with her letting herself in and out during the week. I made a previous weekend trip to take some special things that I wanted to keep. I strongly recommend doing that first, so you know what is in the house. Plus it makes their job a lot easier if you can tell them - EVERYTHING there is for sale. That said, they did set aside some personal items, that they thought I would want, that I hadn't shipped yet. They aren't going to just sell something without checking with you first. To "enhance" the sale, they brought in a few of their other client's merchandise. My mother wasn't a big collector of jewelry or figurines. Those things bring in customers, so it was a good idea. Each person's stuff was color coded with a sticker, so none of the money got confused. I quickly learned that people will buy anything. Cans of unused food - Sold. An electric mixer from 1957 - sold. Corn Cob holders - sold. Clothes, shoes, old board games, packs of playing cards, eye glasses, bulky costume jewelry, Dixieland Jazz records, coffee tables, piano sheet music, old telephones, towels, old garden tools, unused batteries, paintings off the wall, an old sewing machine and, and, and... Now did I get rich selling all these things? No. Although it was cash in my pocket. For me it was about emptying out a house full of stuff, without it taking months and breaking my back doing it. My mother hated waste, so it also gave me some pleasure knowing that someone else was going to actually use these things. After the two day sale Bonnie and Melissa brought another company in that was responsible for the rest of the clean out of unsold things. Basically they see what's left for them to sell or donate to charity, then weigh that against the amount of labor it will take to move everything and clean the house. They write you a check for x amount and do the rest of the hard work. At the end you have a completely empty and clean house, ready for someone else to move into. After watching Bonnie and Melissa work during the weekend, I can highly recommend them. I would trust them again to do it without me being there for sure. I'm guessing most of their clients aren't there. I could tell they have lots of loyal customers who are familiar with their sales. During the sale there was only one person who was a problem. They came through the house and wanted to haggle over every little dime and started to raise their voice about it . Bonnie and Melissa put their foot down politely but firmly and asked them to purchase the items at the fair price or leave. After all this is someone's home, it's not some 3rd world country flea market. These things were important to someone who has passed away, so Bonnie and Melissa insisted that everyone be respectful. They were also constantly keeping things neat and reorganizing the items during the sale. I met lots of nice people during the sale that seemed to really enjoy talking about some of the items in my mom's home. To get this kind of clientele, Bonnie and Melissa spend time taking photos of your items and post it on their website as well as other estate sale websites. In their line of business it's all about having contacts and promoting the sale correctly. That's the difference between doing your own garage sale and having a professional company come in.
